Tasty food, fair prices. Honestly one of the better Mexican joints around. About as authentic as you'll find in eastern Iowa. I can't see why some here have given this place such poor reviews... read more

The service here is always top notch. Their food is fresh and honestly I can't go to any other Mexican restaurant without thinking about this place's food being better. The rice and beans are always fluffy and delicious. Their tequila is good too! Always plays fun music and their lunch specials are a total hit! read more

Si Senor - Steak chimichanga - Salad Near Me - Mount Vernon, Iowa

Delicious food. The chili relleno was amazing. Friendly and quick service. Relaxing, comfortable atmosphere. I highly recommend.

I went here as a group for a friend's 21st b-day party and I WOULD NOT recommend it. The staff were extremely lazy and seemed very annoyed with our group (we were not being obnoxious and were very polite). It took way too long for our food and drinks to come out and when they did they were OK at best. Definitely below average from other Mexican restaurants I've had. Also their prices are extremely high or they just charged me way more than what I ordered (never received a ticket and had to tell them what I got). I ordered a basic taco salad and a medium margarita and was charged $30.49 before tip for it. I don't remember the exact prices but I'm positive neither were over $15 and if they were that's outrageous. When I questioned it at the register the cashier (who I believe is the owner) got irritated with me and told me that's what I owe. There was a line behind me and I didn't want to argue so I paid but Needless to say I DID NOT leave a tip and WILL NOT be coming back to this place and I recommend others to choose a different restaurant too. read more

I went there tonight and the food was horrible. I had a salad that had shrimp. The crustaceans tasted old and very fishy - that was the only real flavor in this mess. The salad came on a huge square plate... but the salad was disappointingly small - mainly a pile of lettuce. The grilled chicken was lukewarm and flavorless. Worst of all, there was a lot of rubbery, lukewarm (canned?) mushrooms in the salad! What the heck? After eating the disgusting dish I wanted to throw up all the way to a neighboring city. I had to eat some ice cream to settle the stomach because I kept having spasms and burping up rotten tasting shrimp and mushrooms. As far as Si Senor, I say "No, way Jose!" Sadly, a few years ago this was an awesome place. Recent reviews tell a person that something has changed. Trust your instincts and those of the reviewers. read more

Food is excellent. They were very busy when we were there but the limited staff really hustled. Highly recommend when you are in the area.

2 at best. Poorly executed. Many signed of pot sanitary practices including the refill of chips in a large food barrel that is kept in the public area. The menu was full of food and spills that should not be missed. Poorly executed fajita, bland, and the pork Tamal is garnished with ground beef, what!? Poorly done. The place is made of hand built tables and benches that are falling apart. I just would not recommend the 80's decor and the thing slapped on the wall. No thanks read more

The crab enchiladas were delicious. So much so that they'll be good for breakfast, lunch and dinner!!!

We were very happy with the delicious vegetarian options and great service! A short walk from the Sleep Inn.

Decent food on the cheaper end compared to similar area Mexican restaurants. Small interior to the point of feeling cramped. Guac and salsa are bit on the bland side but good beans. read more

Went as a group with my family and needless to say we weren't impressed. The food was pretty good but the wait staff seemed to actually hate their lives while also sipping on their margaritas. I was told they couldn't do almost anything I wanted. (My beverage of choice was out, they couldn't make me my meal of choice). And to top it off the place was messy and they started refilling the chip baskets with their hands from a trash can. 10/10 confused. read more

Food was good. Not great, but sufficent for sustinence. Giving 2 stars because it is a step above a drive thru in a town that uses dirty dish rags as currency. But, only slightly. The staff appeared to hate not only their lives, but the lives of those around them. The trash can full of chips is great! I would have jumped in if there had been enough room. Unfort the waitress was already waist deep in them and there was only room for one. If you are hankerin' to go to a place with apathetic staff, okay food, and trash can chips; this is your jam! read more

Good chimichangas will come again, good friendly service and clean work environment. The salsa is good and I would recommend their queso, also they usually always have a margarita special read more

Once I got around the "Mount Vernon maze", I found this place. It was at the end of a strip mall so I wasn't expecting a whole lot but It was a lot better than I thought. The free chips were crispy and warm. The entree came out hot and tasty. It was a pretty good experience. read more

Not sure why so many bad reviews. Food was good, presentation on the enchiladas rojas was neat. Rive and beans were standard fare, but loved that there were no peas in the rice. Wil be back read more

Interior completely built by hands. Authentic in every manner.food came quickly. Had a combination fajitas of roast beef steak shrimp and chicken all came hot with good flavor. Chips and salsa were free. Salsa was well chilled and arrived with zesty flavor. Soccer on the tv's and mexican music sounding from the kitchen. The cook delivered the food! Helpful staff. My favourite meat was the roast beef. With ten booths and three table settings for eight this is a cozy place. Well done. read more

Disappointed in their customer service. Some items on the menu are good, some are not what you would expect and a waste of money.

The best Mexican food in Eastern Iowa (which isn't a huge accomplishment)...the food is consistent and good, service is the best we have had since moving to Iowa (which isn't a huge accomplishment), and we often go here a few times a month. read more

I came to Mount Vernon to tour Cornell college with my family. We love Mexican food, and saw the great reviews from Yelp and thought it was a great place to eat. This place is HORRIBLE. I am not one to ever complain this much about a restaurant, but everything was bad: from the food to the workers. The workers frequently cussed in Spanish and rarely came to check up on us. The food descriptions are also inaccurate. Bad place overall. This is one of the two Mexican restaurants near Cornell. Don't let the overall Yelp stars fool you like it did to us. read more
