We ordered a side of guacamole with our chips and salsa and the guacamole we got looked old and was turning brown which was disappointing. I was only there for a short time, but I still enjoyed it, I tried a monster burger which had two patties, bacon, cheese and an egg. For a Mexican restaurant, the burger was on par with my favorite burger joints. And their margaritas were delicious as well. I got to try their borritos next time. read more

We have NEVER had bad service here! Always pleasant and attentive servers, great suggestions and they really know their menu. We eat a plant base diet, and when we ordered our lunch the server let us know that they cook their rice in chicken broth and beans in lard. That was super helpful! The serving sizes are large and the food is hot and fresh. I think they may have changed their chips, and I forgot to ask, they seemed thicker and not light and crispy. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is the fact they don't have more veggie/vegan options like cooking their rice with veggie stock or offering black beans vs refried beans. Tonight I ordered a half order of Supreme Nachos and ONE Strawberry Dacari along with an order of broccoli bites. When I got the broccoli bites they looked like two were stuck together so I attempted to seperate them only to discover that they were jalopeno bites. When I said I didn't order the jalapenos but that I had touched them so they might as well leave them on the table since they couldn't be served to anyone else. But NO, they wanted to throw them away. What a waste.She left them on the table and charged me for them.I finally got the broccoli bites that were ok. I got charged for 2 drinks. The Nachos were simply a bed of chips swimmiing in grease with all the toppings piled on top which made the few chips a greasy mess. They were inedible.I'll never go back there again. Been a very long time since we have eaten at such a great Mexican Restaurant (actually for me it was about 3 days ago in Houston, business trip ) Actually ate here back in 2006 the last time we were in Cedar Rapids, so it has been a while........ Great Caso and corn chips, my Fajita Combo was superb and so much, had to have take out! Great quality ingredients steak, chicken and shrimp! Awesome corn tortillas and huge side of condiments. Super flavorsome just what the dr. ordered! My wife had beef enchilada and beef taco with a white Caso. She enjoyed this so much, plate was empty, rarely does this happen. I can't remember when I've had better Mexican food or even better service. The only bad thing I can say about this place is that it's in Iowa and I am just visiting from California! I ordered the Chimi Special Beef, the meat was hot and tasty. My daughter, who is a picky eater, ordered the Gringa Quesadilla and was very happy with the flavor as well as the quality of chicken used. The chips were fresh and hot, the salsa was full of flavor. Well what can I say...did I really expect to find good Mexican food in Iowa? I must admit, my expectations were very low when I arrived, so if this review had been done in San Diego, where we have amazing Mexican food, it would have probably been a 3* review. If you are in Iowa, this is your best bet for an almost Mexican restaurant. I have to say, I did enjoy the chicken fajitas, and was given a huge portion. The chips and salsa were a little weak, the salsa tasted a lot like tomato sauce - Be sure to ask them to bring you the hot salsa from the back, it is a little better than what they bring to the table. I had a margarita, but didn't really enjoy it. There was far too much sour mix, and not enough tequila - it tasted like candy. I was very impressed that the owner and her young daughter (10-15 years old) were out in the restaurant greeting patrons and cleaning the restaurant. I give you 5* for actively working and making sure everyone was having a good time. Well done. I did leave very full and satisfied with my food. If I am ever in Iowa again, I will be back for some more fajitas. read more

Went here for margaritas with co-workers which ended up turning into dinner as well. They had a happy hour special for $1 off Jumbo lime margaritas. The definitely do not skip on the tequila in their margaritas!! I wasn't even able to finish mine... I am a lightweight!! Haha! The chips and salsa were delish great amount of heat! For dinner I ordered fish tacos which are one of my favorite Mexican dishes... however I was disappointed with these it was literally a breaded fish stick with A LOT of red cabbage and a little cheese. No cilantro or tomatoes or flavor really. Thus I deducted two stars for the tacos and our server was a little scattered and mixed up a few of our bills. I would definitely return for the chips and salsa and a regular margarita though. read more

It's not often that I've dined at a Mexican restaurant where not a single staff member in sight had an ounce of Mexican blood in them. So, if you're looking for some south of the border Mexicanism you'll have to search elsewhere. That being said, the service was polite and quick, and the food was served up in a matter that would make Speedy Gonzalez proud. The salsa was spicier than any I've had in quite a while, and the chips were overdone, with a few stragglers of French fries mixed in for measure. The quesadilla I ordered had a lot in the way of lettuce and guacamole on top, but not much in the way of chicken inside. The Mexican rice that it is served with had a few peas and carrots tossed in. Is that authentic? The place was clean and they have free WiFi. Just off the interstate, so if you're heading north there are not many EZ on - EZ off dining options until you get up to Waterloo. As many other reviews have stated - the food is not authentic and the staff is completely white suburbanites. However - that doesn't stop them providing great service and "ok" tex mex style food. I went with a party of 6 and we were seated almost immediately. The staff is friendly and helpful. The menu is extensive and has a little bit of everything. I ordered the seafood enchiladas, my boyfriend had the combo fajitas and my mom had beef tacos. (I should point out my mom is Mexican and she was not impressed at all. Lol) My enchiladas tasted pretty good.. but my side of guacamole was bizarre. It was literally JUST mashed avocado. No tomatoes, no onions, nothing.. just avocado. My boyfriend said his fajitas were "meh" and my mom said the beef in her tacos was very tough and unpleasant. Two others in our party ordered steak and potato burritos that had to be sent back because the potatoes were hard and under cooked. My nephew ordered a burger that also was sent back to the kitchen because it wasn't cooked all the way through. I will say their rice was good! :) The service, however, was FANTASTIC. Our server was attentive and happy.. he was polite about our complaints and very apologetic. The worst part of my experience at this restaurant was that during the night 3 of us were sick with indigestion, etc - and we all ate different things. I don't know if it's the way they prepared the food or something they used - but we all wound up with upset stomachs. :( I probably will not return to this restaurant even though it had a few positive points. Then he brought us the wrong dishes. We also wanted fried ice cream, but it took another 20 minutes to get his attention after we finished our meals. The food was cold too by the time we got it. We really didn't even want to eat it but we were starving. The rice was good, but that was about it. The chips were also stale. And we asked for two tickets, and he gave us one (and it wasn't even ours). So yeah, I don't recommend this place at all. I was there a couple years before this and apparently forgot how awful that experience was as well. My boyfriend and I got there at the end of a lunch rush around 1:30/2pm. Our server clearly didn't want to work. She sat a few tables behind us and talked the entire time. I don't generally update reviews, but I feel compelled to after my second meal here. My first meal here was excellent, but my second meal (pollo con chipotle) was absolutely amazing. Interestingly, I only ordered it because I'm pretty sure I have become lactose intolerant (which limits Mexican options). It turns out that this meal was amazing. Great food, great service, great chips&salsa and the best/strongest Margs in town (the lime, rocks, salt, jumbo gold/texas is my poison). This was apart of the local Hacienda Las Glorias restaurants until Kent bought it out. They have kept the food/menu comparable, and added some things and tweaked a few others. They also have nice weekly/monthly specials, happy hour, and awesome specialty soups (limited qty! so get when you can). Staff is always friendly and inviting. Nice bar area. Several TVs too. Nice booth sizes, and there are a few places where you can set-up large parties as well as a party room. Located right off 380 and Blairsferry Road. Cant miss it. read more

This place is about 8 years old and we just tried it for the 1st time tonight! Cedar Rapids isn't exactly a mecca of fine dining. We have a few above average places but this is mostly a chain town. Mexican cuisine certainly doesn't shine here. That said, for Americanized Mexican food (and what else can it be this far from the border or Chicago!) this is certainly a cut above everything else we've tried in CR. We had 9 people and arrived near 7pm. We were shocked that we were seated immediately in a nice back room where is was both less crowded and more quiet. Very nice. Pros: Chips are fantastic. Warm, fresh and extremely light. Salsa was also quite good with a bit of heat. Entrees were all well above average. Good size portions and fresh distinct flavors. Cons: Beans and Rice were both average. the beans were meh and the rice was overcooked and dry. Overall a very surprising visit. We will be back. read more

The last time I was here I made the mistake of ordering one of the "lunch specials" its funny how mexican restaurants serve you three things on a plate such as a burrito, enchilada, and a chile rellenos but they are all the exact same thing... Hamburger wrapped in a tortilla but different sized tortillas lol. I went to this place yesterday and my friend opened me up to the amazing things on the menu like the chorizo tacos and the garibaldi with chicken and I have to say I was very impressed with both and it really made this place stand out. First time eating here tonight. Not half bad, I'd come back again I suppose. I always see several cars in the parking lot on the weekends, and it was a fairly steady crowd on a Wednesday night tonight. The welcome from the hostess was not warm, however; thank goodness our server was very friendly and attentive. I had the carne asada tacos and they were quite good, especially the sauteed onions in them. You get three soft shells filled with steak and onions, then have pico de gallo, rice, and beans on your plate. I left feeling very full. The pico de gallo that accompanied my tacos was not fresh and crisp; it was mushy and tasted and looked as if it had been sitting out all day.
