I eat a lot of Mexican food! This is, by far, one of my favorites. The verde sauce can vary at times, but generally is the best I've eaten. Always fresh food. Love the salsa. Great staff. Food here is pretty affordable, especially for the portion sizes. Quality can be a bit hit or miss though. My family has come here a few times and usually orders the carnitas as one of the entrees. Sometimes they're wonderful while other times they can be a bit dry and overcooked. This last visit, I decided to order something random off the menu--a chicken burrito wrap. Awful. Think Mexican rice and refried beans mixed with bbq chicken. It honestly felt like something only a drunk frat guy could come up with. On the bright side, the service is great here and the margaritas are large and cheap. So it may be worth a visit if quality food isn't your priority. read more

My boyfriend and I went to Hacienda Las Glorias for margaritas. We also enjoyed their chips and salsa and guacamole also. The margaritas were very strong. The guacamole and salsa were just ok. The guacamole looked and tasted old. The salsa was watered down and not that good either. Their chips were nice and hot. Interior decor was festive and neat. The exterior looks can be deceiving. After walking in and sitting at the table I was immediately greeted with chips and salsa. After this i pulled out my camera and asked if he had anything else to say to which he scurried to the back and i left. While in Iowa a friend of mine suggested I try this specific Mexican spot. I hadn't had Mexican food in weeks so I was all for it. This particular outing was a group outing but it could also serve as a date outing as well for those of you who enjoy dates. Chips and dip are automatically served as soon as you're seated which was good because I was hungry. I ordered the "Arron Con Pollo" which is juicy grilled fajita chicken on a plate of Spanish rice, smothered in queso sauce. Took no time for them to bring it out which was a plus for me because I don't like waiting too long for food. The food was everything in the description and more. The chicken was juicy and the queso was amazing. Served extremely hot I had no complaints. This place is fast, professional and they take pride in their dishes. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves Mexican food as well as this particular dish too. read more

Meh? As others have stated, the food and service are not good and not bad. I would not expect to be blown away, and don't come here expecting authentic Mexican food. Their main clientele seemed to be middle aged drinkers. The bar was very crowded, so I guess if you're a drinker, this might be a great choice. The food was edible, but the atmosphere pretty much ruined our dinner. Very loud and rowdy place in general, and the wait staff were doing cringey things like sitting at tables while taking orders. They seemed to personally know many people in the establishment. We took a corner both, and had the misfortune of sitting near what I took to calling " The Leaning Wall." Wait staff stood very close to our both, having loud conversations. It made me extremely uncomfortable to see the waiter's ass in my face out of the corner of my eye. I would have temporary relief when someone would leave the wall, but they would quickly be replaced by another waiter or waitress who would stand against the wall and stare, or have loud conversations with other employees. I would think about eating here again, but only ordering to-go. read more

We recently moved to CR and went to this restaurant for the first time the other day. We hadn't tried Mexican food in town yet and were both really were craving a meal with rice and beans. It turns out that there weren't many options which had both, so I chose the fish tacos and was so disappointed by the saltiness of the beans and rice. I was also surprised that the fish was battered and fried, but it was okay. I usually can finish meals in restaurants, but I boxed up most of it to go and let my husband eat it at work the next day. He agreed that my food tasted saltier than his, but his meal had some additional garnishes that he mixed in, so he thinks that masked the saltiness. We're both willing to give this restaurant another chance, but I'm hoping that the salt problem was a fluke and not a consistent feature of their cuisine. read more

Solid three star rating in the cheap Mexican race. Two stars for existing. One star for serving edible food. The whole place has seen better days - everything is worn out, ripped, wobbly or just plain dirty. Try not to look at the floor if you can help it, although looking up only gives a view of all the exposed hvac. It is quite a date spot. The concrete floor behind the bar and nasty bathroom seal the deal. Service and speed are decent but all margaritas had the same 3 second pre-mix pour, just different amounts of ice. Medium blended strawberry had the same booze as a jumbo regular on the rocks. I watched a dozen drinks all go out with the same 3 second pour, the technique was well practiced. Maybe order beers instead. I wouldn't say don't try this place. What I would say is if you like another dirty, dark little Mexican joint that pours decent drinks, go there first. Usually I don't trash businesses but service here is totally unacceptable. We walked in at about 2:30 in the afternoon in town for my sons college baseball game. We sat down after being seated by a younger male with a ponytail. We sat there for 15 minutes finished our chips and salsa and nobody ever came back to take our order or even looked at us. There were two servers one was on his phone at the bar and the other one was counting his money in the corner. We didn't have much time and if the service was that bad I could imagine what the food was like. The server that was at the bar didn't come back to us but definitely greeted a vendor and decided to help the vendor instead of his own customer. Unbelievable. We ended up walking out and the guy didn't even bat an eye or ask where we are going or if he can help. I'm in Cedar on business for a couple of weeks, and I'm eating out just about every night. Now I won't preface this review with "I'm from California so I'm picky about Mexican food." Okay, so there you go. But I've been living in Portland, OR for the last decade so I've lowered my standards in regards to Mexican food. But this crap. Oh no. The place is kind of a dump. Okay no it's really a dump. At 630 on a Thursday the bar was packed. With drunks. And a 6 or 7 year-old girl. Sitting at the bar. That's right, sitting at the bar. I don't know what the law is in Iowa, but I'm fairly certain a kid shouldn't be at the bar. Ordered a margarita. I can say with absolute certainty that was the worst margarita I've ever had in my life. It tasted like someone got the tequila and margarita mix swapped out with simple green and rubbing alcohol. The shrimp fajitas? Holy hell, it was a pile, a mound rather, of over-salted and over-cooked bell peppers and onions with a smattering of over-cooked shrimp. Maybe the theme of the night was 'over.' I don't know. The little wad of guacamole on my rice and beans was brown. Terrible. What else can I say? This place sucks. Bad. read more

We arrived around 7:30-7:45 PM on a Friday evening. The dining room was busy, approximately 80%. It took a few minutes to be seated, but not an unreasonable wait time. If the number of guests is an indication of quality, then that is a good sign. Ambiance: pretty much as one would expect: saturated colors of dark blue and salmon orange, colorful tiles. Somewhat crowded dining room. Noise level: medium. Service: not prompt, perhaps due to the number of patrons. Once meal was ordered, the kitchen was not quick either. One table of 10 near us was seated when we got there. Our food was not quick, theirs came after ours. Beverages: I had the watermelon Margarita. I was told by a guest at the door as we waited that this is the only place in town serving watermelon Margaritas. With rocks and salt, I'd give it a thumbs up! Lightly flavored. Very good. My wife had a regular one, rocks/salt. She said the flavor reminded her of a Gimlet. She was pleased as well. Food: Again slow from the kitchen. When delivered it was hot and tasty. Arroz on Pollo for my wife. She found it tasty and would order again. I had Rio Grande Enchiladas--cheese enchilada topped with steak tips in a light cheese sauce, with beans and rice. The steak cuts were small but tender. I found it flavorful and contained a nice serving of cheese in the enchilada. I too would order again. Dessert: Fried ice cream. Served in a tortilla bowl. Comes with a generous amount of whipped topping and chocolate drizzle. Not a generous serving of ice cream, but enough to top off the meal with that "something sweet" desire. Overall: I'd return. The fare is similar to most Mexican restaurants, not disappointing, not spectacular--pleasing. The area for improvement is speed of service. read more

When I called them about the messed up order the first thing that was said was it was put in the bag which implies that Grub Hub stole it. .. . that bag was packed so full there was no possible way anything else was ever attempted to be put in it. If they had said wow, there must have been a mistake and it didn't get in there I would have been not happy but wouldn't have been mad. .. .however to pass the buck did nothing but piss me off. The place has a stale smell to it when you walk in, like it hadn't been cleaned in months,the service or should I say the Lack of service is terrible. You wait forever just to have someone take your drink order, then it takes another 30 minutes for them to come back and take your food order. The food will be brought out on a plate dripping with grease from the food with part of your food being cold as well. But don't dare ask for a refund because they will explain to you how the wait staff has to pay for food that's sent back. To top it all off I've been ill ever since I ate there yesterday! NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I EXPERIENCED A PLACE LIKE THIS. I recommend anyone that thinks about eating here to think twice maybe even three times about not doing it! read more

I went to this restaurant on my birthday. Thought I would treat myself. Have been to the La Hacienda on 1st Ave. SW several times and have always been happy with their customer service. That is NOT the case with the 42nd St./ Center Point Rd. restaurant. The couple of times I have been there, the staff are always rude. ALWAYS. I placed an order to go, which was not complete. I stayed in Cedar Rapids for two weeks this month. There apparently is ONLY pizza, Chinese and Mexican in this whole town, and it's pretty awful across the board. I of course found this place on my last night in town. I probably would have eaten here every day had I known about it. Built into what looks like an old church or something is Hacienda Las Glorias. It's a cross between a mex restaurant and a local sports bar. It's plastered with Mexican beer ads, and the place looks generally dumpy. Where this place shines is not the decor but the food and the service. Sit where you like and instant chips and salsa, which are homemade and delicious. The salsa is tangy on the tongue and the heat hits you in the throat 3 seconds later. It's awesome. They have the Mexican soda, I had the lime, so good. I had the two tacos hard and soft, beef and chicken, both were great, a chicken enchilada, rice and beans. I almost ate the plate too. So good. My server was amazing too, I think her name was Carlyn. Such a great people person. Anyway so the bill was like under 10 bucks for my order. I did a 50% tip and left full and quite happy. I have to report that Hacienda Las Glorias on Center Point, much like its 1st Ave counterpart, is da Bomb! They rushed our food out so fast last time we were there, I freaked! I was stunned. It was 3 entrees out in a lightning flash, it was like breaking the 4 minute mile, this large amount of food was steaming in front of us less than 240 seconds after the waitress took our order. Eat here if you're in a hurry! The food - great. best enchilada Ive ever had. Lets not forget the restaurants greatest virtue, the atmosphere. This building has really unique architecture, with a high pitched A-frame roof. When you're inside and get the sense of the high ceiling above, you feel like you are in a cozy ski lodge in the mountains. The place has been around a long time too.
