This is a follow up on my last review with my official written complaints to the office after Richard (one of the owners) called me requesting to take down the online reviews in exchange for them to rectify the issues. Attached is a copy of the written correspondence between me and the other owner (Krystal- the wife) on 11/26-27. You can compare the tone of voice in what she posted online versus the attitude and manipulation she throws at you behind the scenes. They eventually got fixed after filng a dispute with my credit card company and COSTCO. But, the manager of the store - Krystal - was rude and HORRIBLE!! Her response was ridiculous - I didn't measure the windows incorrectly; her salesperson did (who I learned from someone else at the store was new and didn't know what she was doing.) Richard was relentless in getting the sale of Graber shades through Costco... it was a rocky process as the sample I approved was not available even though he showed it to me as an option. We finally landed on my second choice and the shades were installed last December. Unfortunately, one of the shades is faulty and hangs crooked-wide at top and narrow at bottom. I am furious that I have been trying for 9 months to get him to either fix it or remove it and give me a refund. He has been very unresponsive. I do not recommend working with Richard at Shutter Heaven and I will be working with Costco to lodge a complaint and get this situation rectified. read more

Its absolutely amazing how happy we are that we choose Shutter Heaven to handle our window covering needs. Absolutely disgusted with Shutter Heaven, it's been almost 12 months since having the 3rd set of shades installed, first wood ones fell apart and would go up, so switched to fabric, at an additional cost, they looked like a 5 year old made them. i had to wait for them to try "fix them" they were just as bad. Ended up with a refund after much battling. Richard is not playing with a full deck and Krystelle at the office will never return a call and defers to Chelsea, poor girl, who knows nothing. Very disappointed in Richard's unprofessional approach. I can't speak to how Richard will treat you after you've become his customer, but if this is how he treats you to win you over before payment, I can't imagine it will be much better after he has your buyers commitment. It was anything but a smooth process from the start (late responses, won't take measurements over email, won't do virtual consultations), and to top it off... he did not honor our meeting commitment that was set a week in advance. Richard did not show up at the appointed time. Both my husband and I had to take time off work AND figure out our newborn's care to be able to drive to Richard to meet him, only for him call us when we were already there (and he was already 10 minutes late) to tell us he took another last-minute appointment and he was going to be an additional 30 minutes late. He made no apology even though he knew it takes us an hour to drive there and back, and only offered to "reschedule". Not only did he waste our time today, he also delayed our process of getting blinds in our house, as we waited on his availability for this consultation. We've let Costco know this local dealer does not seem to be up to par with their service commitment. There's plenty of fish in the OC-blinds-sea, I wouldn't recommend going with this one. read more

Shutter Heaven was recommended to me by some random mom on a Facebook page, and I couldn't be happier that fate and some good yelp reviews made me contact them for a quote. After a little scheduling snafu, Cindy came out to consult with us. We had just replaced our windows and were ready to replace the window coverings. We were 99% sure we wanted plantation shutters on everything except for the very large sliding glass door in our den. For that, we needed some expert advice! We wanted something that could block out the glare and heat from the afternoon sun, but could then be swept aside to enjoy the sunset as evening approaches. We thought we were going to go with some sort of light filtering shade that stacks up to the side, but then Cindy showed us this amazing product by Norman called the "Smart Shade." (Look it up for a video!) It fit our needs perfectly! Well... almost perfectly. If the sliding glass door is left open behind it, it moves the fabric and the cats attack it... so we have to be careful. But it's still a marvel of function and beauty and we absolutely love it! (And showing it off to anyone who visits...) Richard the owners came and gave us what my wife and I thought was an ok bid. Seemed like a nice guy so we went ahead and gave him a chance. Bad choice !!! From when we gave a deposit to when he finally gave us a call was 7 weeks !! We knew it takes time to manufacture shutter. But never was there a call as far as statues update and when we attempted to call no response. Finally they call to schedule us in , the installer shows up with 3 of the 32 items we are getting installed. Call Richard a few times no answer left a message. Finally two weeks later they call to schedule appt to install the rest if the shutter ..finally. At the end of the job he informs me that the manufactur on one of the shutter doors had the measurements incorrect and that he would take it to them on Monday (it was Friday ) to fix the problem and would come back that week. He asked for the remaining balance we gave home 95% percent of it. Two week go by , my wife finally calls and you guessed it no answer 2weeks go by of us calling with no answer. (This review is getting long ). 6 weeks later no door, I FIRED Richard ,lost money on this. The best part is that now he is calling be back constantly border line harassment to see if sign of on the job so that he can write the door of with the manufacture. The reason I gave this company 1 stars is because of the horrible customer service. Calls take forever to be returned and I believe they screen the calls. I know because we call on my wife's phone for weeks with no response and a call made from a different number within seconds from my wife's phone, they answer. I get it, things take time. The shutters takes weeks to manufacture. That's acceptable. What's not acceptable is when they miss their promised installation date by over a month and they don't tell you anything. You have to follow up and and they don't answer your call. It's so frustrating!! The issue we have with them right now, we want one of the window coverings they installed changed. Richard took our order back in Sept 3, 2013...and nothing. No reminders, no follow up, no updated. That's 14 WEEKS. The shutters and window coverings they install is good, the price is decent. But I cannot recommend this company because they can't do the simple thing of returning calls and giving information. I can accept being late but let your customers know. We shouldn't be baby-sitting you! I don't when and if this company is going to finish their work for us, but I'm done! This is not worth the STRESS and FRUSTRATION! read more

Richard first responded because I had reached out to most shutter companies in the OC. He was the only one who consistently followed up and was accommodating. We scheduled an in-home walk through and didn't come off "sales pitch" at all! He was comforting and reassuring. We even reached out to others to get other quotes but in the end felt the most comfortable with Richard. They kept in touch as our window treatments were custom made, scheduled an installation appointment a couple days after delivery to their warehouse. Things I liked best: *The pricing was very competitive. *Product knowledge was wonderful and I can't imagine a better product. My husband and I moved into a newly constructed home in June 2016 and immediately set out to find window coverings. We were referred to Shutter Heaven by a friend of ours who lived in the same development and had used Shutter Heaven. Ultimately, after receiving 4 quotes for window coverings we decided to go with Richard at Shutter Heaven for the following reasons: 1) He came in with the lowest bid (not by much - but for the product he was offering it was a great price) 2) We felt Richard was a pretty nice guy and my husband and I like to support local/small business We ran into a few very minor and easily overlooked issues early on in the process which included the following: 1) When setting up the appointment for the temp blinds to be placed I stated how many windows we needed covered as I knew it was more than usual. When the tech arrived to place them he stated he did not have enough and he would cover the windows downstairs and in our Master. I let him know he needed to also cover the windows in our young son's room as well. He failed to cover 2 of the 4 windows in my son's room and many of the temp blinds started coming down within an hour of placement. 2) When the appointment was set up to install the shutters after they arrived, we were never notified that the appt. was made. Instead, we received a call at work stating the tech's were at our house to install and we had to run around like chickens with our heads cut off to make this work. We apologized to the techs installing the blinds for the disorganization on our part and let them know what had occurred to cause this and they had stated that wasn't the first time that had happened. The above issues really didn't bother us to much and we would have overlooked them due to the great price for an excellent product (I still stand behind this and that is why we gave Shutter Heaven 3 stars!) until we had a larger issue that was not handled how we would have expected. When the shutters were installed (with no warning about the appt. as described above) my father was there. The techs installed the shutters and then a check was demanded after we said we would mail it the following day (although we had said we did not have previous notice of the appt. to get the check ready) and my husband and I were both at work. My husband worked out a deal and the techs came to his work to pick up the check before we were able to review the work. Needless to say when we arrived home and discovered that 3 windows in our master had no shutters we were pretty upset. We immediately contacted Richard who after reviewing his records discovered HE had made an error on our order and forgot to order 2 of the 3 (same size) shutters for the Master windows. Let me state this was not the issue, the issue we had was how Richard handled this situation. He essentially blamed us for not catching the error when we signed the agreement and then said that we would need to pay for at least 1 of the 2 additional shutters at a cost of $400. My husband and I ended up agreeing to pay an additional $300 after many many discussions with Richard. I very much stated to Richard over the phone that I thought the product was beautiful and nice BUT I would NOT be a happy customer if I had to pay any additional money as I was quoted a certain price and that is what we should have to pay as it is on him for making the error. To round this out, the product and the price on Shutter Heaven's products are wonderful and I would say nothing less. Unfortunately, the customer service is lacking.....sadly for Shutter Heaven I had 2 additional customers lined up that I will not be referring to them because of a few hundred dollars Shutter Heaven would not eat to provide the best customer service and product available! read more

I used Shutter heaven a few years ago and they did a good job, however recently I called them again to do shutters for a nursery and the owner Richard put me through sooooo many loops telling me the shutters were ready when they weren't, would call me back and then never did. It took about 4 months of me calling all the time before He finally came and installed the shutters. He then said he would put in black out shades for me and he'd call me on Thursday. Well guess what, no call and when I called and left two voicemails he didn't even bother calling me back. As a business owner myself I would never dream of treating clients this poorly, especially when they have referred me business to friends and family. Shame on you Richard!
