It seems like no matter when you arrive you will be met with a line, so be prepared. I recommend going earlier in the morning to beat the college student rush. While I don't believe the bagels hold a candle to New York bagels, I think Shug's offers a decent sandwich if you're craving bagels. Personally, the breakfast sandwich was super dry and the cheddar cheese was still cold even though they said it was toasted. They bagels are far too soft and don't have the crunchy exterior and chewy interior that I prefer in a traditional bagel. I find $18 for a lox bagel in Austin criminal, so I'd skip it. The amount of lox was pretty skimpy for the price.

I mean shug's is easily the best bagel sandwich in Austin. "the Shug" essentially a BEC + hashbrown is unreal. It's my go-to order and it won't disappoint. The lines look long but they go quick and their customer service is fabulous. If you haven't been yet, you MUST go. And eat it right there - don't take it home and let it get cold, you need to experience it asap.

For the amount of people they had in the place this morning they really did a great job of working the line. I ordered the Ruben and was really disappointed with the quality of the meat. It tastes like it was heated in the microwave, very rubbery texture and chewy . Overall service was great but this particular sandwich was very underwhelming.

This is the cutest bagel shop with fantastic bagels! The staff is friendly and helpful, and i love the decor. Counter service with tables available outside and a dining room in the back. I had the classic lox, and it was so good. Expensive, but good. On my next visit, i had an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese, tomatoes, onions and lettuce. This was just as filling as the lox, almost as tasty, and a lot less expensive. Took home a cinnamon raisin bagel and it was delish, too. Welcome to the neighborhood, Shug's!

New bagel joint with a following, let's go! Shug's is located on a corner at Parkway and North Lamar with two small parking lots flanking the building and nice outdoor seating fitted with fans in the front and stage left. We waited 40 minutes at Shug's Sunday soft opening this past weekend to see what the hype was all about. We had Plain bagel, French Toast bagel, Cinnamon Raisin bagel, Egg Everything bagel, and a coffee crumb cake. Bagels untoasted for this New Yorker. The bagels tasted stale. This was day 2 of the soft opening. They were not soft and chewy. A BEC was 2.50 bagel, 3 egg, 4 bacon, .75 cheese. $10.25. More than the local bodega and in many solid NYC bagel joints. Sad I missed day one soft opening. They have sweets such as black and white cookies flown in from NY. The person I asked didn't have any more details about where exactly. The coffee crumb cake was delicious. There is a self serve water station with cups by the bathroom. I might return when they're more settled. Would not go out of my way for and definitely would not wait in any line for these bagels.

C'mon Shugs - welcome to Austin! Gorgeous space, incredible bagel, great customer service, and a massive kitchen with a ton of people hard at work. Keep it up! $11.50 for a Shug bagel sandwich, and $2.50 for basic bagels.

The bagels are excellent. The staff were warm and friendly (and I arrived at 6:40am). They did an amazing job updating the space.

First off, so freaking cute inside! Love the old-timey vibe. The line was long, but it moves fast. I got the Bagel & Lox and it was really good... but for a hefty price ($18)!! Although, apparently the lox is flown in from NY, so I guess that explains it Still really good and I'd definitely come back to try more!

Bagels were baller swag money. Single bagels being around $2 is great too. Got the spicy shugs bagel. Definitely recommend. Get there early though. Line was long but moved fast. You get your order pretty quick at least

Been hearing from all my Dallas friends how good Shug's is. I've driven past this spot on Lamar 100 times and when I saw the open sign and a small crowd I've never U-turned so fast. They're doing a super soft opening and the staff were awesome and super friendly, even handing out coffee to people in line. The line filled up quick when the news got out. We grabbed a classic toasted bagel with a cream cheese "smear" (limited selection today and free) and the Spicy Shug sandwich. I can definitely see myself getting this every Saturday morning after a couple cold ones on Friday. Excited to go back and try the different bagels and cream cheeses.

Came here for the first time, and the line was pretty long, but after about 5 minutes I went to order and oh my god the blonde at the counter was rude! She seemed annoyed when I walked up to order and seemed pissed when I asked what egg options they had and cut me off every chance she got. She kept that energy through my entire order and I almost left, but I persisted especially after waiting in line and taking 10 minutes to find parking. The workers handing out bagels and the other cashiers seemed very nice besides her. I ordered a breakfast sandwich on a plain bagel with scrambled eggs, chorizo, cheddar cheese, and jalapeño cream cheese. The sandwich was delicious, but it's not worth it coming back because there are plenty of bagel spots in Austin that are good with much better customer service.

Yum yum yum! Reminded me of NYC, and that's all I ever want from a bagel shop. Will absolutely be back. Small parking lots, but easy to park across the street...and tons of seating inside, the decor is so cute. Can't wait to try everything on the menu!!

We arrived here around 9am. Luckily we came before the rush. We can tell that the guy that took our order was new. He used the tiny handheld device instead of the big pos screen? Not sure why. lol. I repeated my order maybe 4-5 times and yet when we got home. The order was not even right. I asked him to add Tomatoes, onions, and capers to the order. It bit disappointing without those add ons. Being a Austinite I like burnt but not burnt bagels. The dining and patio area is nice. We traveled over 30 mins to get here and were disappointment with the service and quality of food. I'll give this place another shot in the future.

It's impossible to talk about it without mentioning the ungodly amount of excellent smoked jalapeño queso that sets it apart from everthing I've had. Very creamy with great smoked pepper notes. You'll need a fork to tackle it and I wish BBS would give us some chips and fries for dipping, because it's a sin to waste any of that queso. Rest of the sandwich was no slouch other. The buttermilk fried chicken was fried very well and was juicy thanks to BBS's choic to use thighs. The smashed avocado can get overlooked because of the queso, but it provides another flavor and is a great visual stimulus. Some picled serrano peppers finish it off, though I wouldn't might some other kind of greens. Brioche bun holds everything together terrifically. This is not an sandwich one should get frequently, but it is a combination that deserves an initial try. Wow.

The Not So Good: I didn't really get any of the "sweet" in the sweet & spicy sauce. The Ugly: I ordered the bowl and was excited to dig in 'cause it looked delish but was disappointed with how salty everything tasted. I realize saltiness is subjective but I could not get through half of my order. Ended up taking home in hopes that I could find a way to reduce the salty taste.

The front part of the establishment catered to the to-go crowd, so we went to the back of the restaurant that was more of a sit-down bistro. Service was great. We had a friendly, attentive server, and our food came out in a timely manner. I ordered the Breakfast Bun, which was a breakfast sandwich with a steamed egg, cheese, and sesame bun. OMG that toast was definitely freshly made. The room is classic old hotel style and overall in pretty good shape. Even the juices are outstanding and unique, including guava juice.

Whether you're looking to get some work done, meet a friend, or simply people-watch, this spot checks all the boxes. The atmosphere is lively without being overwhelming, and even when it gets busy, there seems to be plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating available. I stopped in on a Thursday morning and enjoyed the chilaquiles, a latte, and one of the most beautiful raspberry scones I've seen in a while. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully prepared. The menu also deserves a shoutout for seamlessly transitioning from breakfast to lunch and even happy hour offerings later in the day. One of the highlights was how easy it was to settle in and work. The WiFi was fast and reliable, and I was able to comfortably spend about three hours there without feeling rushed. As someone who doesn't typically eat chicken salad, I was unaware it could contain tree nuts. I took one bite, felt an unexpected crunch, and then felt my throat start to swell. My girlfriend asked a worker if she knew if the chicken salad contained nuts and she frantically exclaimed "oh no! I don't know!" before asking the kitchen. She then came back and said "it has pecans! Is that bad?" And I said "yes. Kinda bad" Luckily because I only had one bite and then proceeded to chew on a few Benadryl I ended up being okay and my throat and lungs were all back to normal in an hour or so, even if I had to spend my day in bed high on said Benadryl. If I had eaten any more of the sandwich though, I very easily could have ended up in the ER. All that to say - the menu does not make any mention of pecans being in the chicken salad, either in-store or online. Which is strange because tree nuts are disclosed in some of the other menu items. This feels like a bit of an oversight, no? Fellow nut allergy-havers: do you avoid chicken salad altogether? Am I ignorant for not knowing the risk of ordering chicken salad? I don't know but this did ruin a whole day for me and very easily could've cost me $2000 and a trip to the ER if I really enjoyed the taste of the sandwich. (Luckily I did not.) Sorry to leave a shady diva review for a time-honored Austin institution - the worker we spoke to seemed very apologetic and reasonably frightened. But you you've really gotta add that *contains tree nuts or your customers are gonna end up intubated. Not very cool! Feel free to send me money or whatever. Please don't send me a gift card.
