Avoid this company at all costs. Bunch of scammers. Always missed our pickups and we never get the credit for them. When we called back and asked why no one came to empty our bins, they always said we cancelled the scheduled pickup. What a bunch of liars. Why would we cancel it? Our bins get full very fast and need to be emptied weekly but they almost never come as scheduled and sometimes they only come once a month. As of today, all of our bins have been full for god knows how many weeks, and I called before Christmas to find out why no one came to empty them. As always, the guy on the phone said someone cancelled the last pickup and he would send someone before Christmas. They lied again. No one came. They basically get your money and do nothing. Would give negative stars if I could. Their phone customer service is terrible, their drivers bill for services they don't render or come after office hours when your profile clearly states office hours. They no longer allow you to cancel a pickup online, which means you have to call customer service. Be sure to read the contract because they will screw you out of 50% of your remaining visits while under contract, if you want to dump them for a better company. read more

Do not do business with this company. Our company has set up auto pick up with them. They came out twice? Three times? But now we have been trying for MONTHS (over 4months) to get them do a pick up, like they're supposedly scheduled to. We have called numerous occasions to get service. Each time we are told a pick up is scheduled for xx date and they never show up. Finally got a whole of corporate. Just to be transfers to "retentions"? department to sit on hold for an hour. I called and got a "Reasonable" quote of $374.50. When I had not set a firm date for the pickup, they on their own set a pickup date when I was not available. I called and emailed the rep to reschedule. They charged me anyway for a non-existent 3/6/2023 pickup. I am still waiting for a refund/credit. Rescheduled pickup was for 3/20/2023 to pickup 20 boxes. They charged me for 100 boxes and I am still waiting for a refund/credit three months later. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH SHRED-IT/STERICYCLE. read more

My company was under contract with Shredit for over 10 years. Weekly pick up and destruction peppered with a special pick up here and there. August 5. 2021 was a software update - billing, customer interface, and scheduling and it seemed Shredit disappeared. weekly service stopped, customer service not answering emails or phone calls (hold times of over 90s minutes), and just a lack of service. I still see the trucks around so I know they are still in business. We ended our contract over a breach of security as they never showed up to pick up our shredding and destroy it. We gave them 60 days. Our cancellation letter stated they must pick up their equipment (bins and cabinets and keys) and that was never addressed. Fast forward to today, Jan. 26, '22, and I've made 3 calls with 3 different ref #s since December. No one from the Portland branch has contacted me to pick up their equipment. Today was told by CS that I will be contacted within 5 business days. Also was told they do not have a cancellation letter on record. At least we are not getting billed. Are they still in business and, if so, what do they do now? read more

I used ShredIt in December to get some hard drives destroyed for my company. This was a bit of a logistical issue since I live and work in San Diego and the hard drives were located in Bend, Oregon. I called ShredIt and Alyssa answered the phone and helped me out. She was super informative, very responsive, and awesome during the entire process. Very disappointed with this company. My business has been a customer of theirs for years and they truly could care less about us as a customer. During Portland's Covid-19 shutdown, we were billed for two services that we did not receive. Our business was open and running as normal on each day that we were charged for service that did not happen. After disputing these charges via a national call center and requesting a call from the local office 4 different times, I have received no call and I have received no credit for the services not provided. Due to the lack of customer service and overall care, I requested our next scheduled service be our last. That said, they came two weeks early without any communication and picked up our shred bin. This left us without document shredding coverage for a few days until our new company could get shred bins out to us. I am extremely pleased with our new company. They have local contacts that you can talk to. They were incredibly responsive when Shred-it left us high and dry. They are also 75% LESS expensive than Shred-It!!! read more

I am so pissed off at this company. I called for a price I never agreed to it. I never seen them I was at work yet they claim they was at my home for 5 mins. I had a roomate at the time but idk what happened I do know my shredding hasn't been touched. I tried to call customer service and can't get anyone that speaks English. I'm beyond frustrated. Started with them dropping container with no key, then sent wrong key, Couldn't get the pick up schedule to be established, billing is horrible. Cancelled service and now 6 mo later they are sending me a bill that I do not owe. Very incompitant company. I would look at other options and companies, do waste your time with shred-it. read more

Like many others in this thread of reviews, I am highly disappointed in the Shred-It service. They never come when scheduled. Their labryrinth of phone chains when trying to get someone on the line is ridiculous. And really no resolution to missed pick ups. Only 'we ran out of time'...but they'll charge you anyway. Avoid this company. Above money, it will only create a huge amount of frustration. Finding a better and more reliable shredding service. read more

Oh my goodness they are scammers! Sales rep was very responsive and even came out to my location, I clearly explained I wanted ONE standard container and to have it serviced every 8 weeks. He said that a 2nd desk side container was included for free, so I said yes to that, why not!?. Got my bill and it turns out they billed me for TWO standard containers AND the desk side container the bill was triple what the sales rep and I talked about. Also, he set me up for service every 2 weeks, not 8 weeks like I clearly asked for. When I called customer service they informed me that once the sales rep seals his deal then I have to go thru customer service to get my questions answered. I called 3 times and each time they said I was a "priority call" and someone would call me back in 72 hours...this did not happen. It's going on a month now with no answers. Shocking how many errors happened with my order and how obviously scammed I was. You don't sign a service contract and now I know why...they set you up on whatever service they want! read more

I hate giving a bad review. I know there can be extenuating circumstances and can be very forgiving. However, it has been a week and 4 phone calls and we still haven't received a commitment to pick up an overflowing secured bin. I think my paper would decompose faster than it takes these guys to actually come out and do their jobs. We have this amazing technology invented in 1876 by Alexander Graham Bell called the telephone. I believe they should be trained on how to use such an amazing piece of technology and call their customers back. read more

If I could give them no stars I would. They don't show up as scheduled or show up so early there's no one to let them into the bldg. And they certainly expect to get paid on time. If you have a special order (large shred job) they just show up. If you do happen to schedule a job they don't show up as scheduled. And the driver doesn't know how much they need to shred. Acts surprised there's pallets of boxes. There is absolutely no communication between dispatch and their drivers and there's no communication between dispatch and there customers. And just for added fun, if you try to call them you end up being on hold for around 1.5 hours, maybe more, because they've been bought out by Stericycle and you can't talk to your local location but have to talk to some call center. DO NOT sign an annual contract with them. Find some one else. Sounds like they treat their employees pretty awful too. Guess there's some consistency there. I talked to a sales man at this location and signed up for their service. I was told that the price is the same whether I get serviced once or twice a month, I'm paying the same. I started receiving two bills every month and was told by the company that the salesman was not properly informed and couldn't offer me that price, it was per service, not month. They did offer to extend the time in between services and forgive the bills that were in question to resolve the issue, which I accepted. My very next bill has a surcharge on it for being 0.1 miles (10.1 total miles) away from the servicing location's 10 mile radius. When I called and talked to Brian at the location he told me that this was a newly negotiated price despite having an agreement with me, they were going to have to start charging me this. I inquired that the contract I signed did not include this extra fee and I was given the customer service telephone number and told nothing else could be done by him at this time. He did state that I could offer to buy out the contract from them by paying for the years of service I agreed to in advance in order to terminate the service from them now and stop receiving bills. I would recommend you beware of signing contracts or using this company for services as it appears, from my experience, they do not honor what they agree to and put in writing. read more

I arrived at shred it today only to find their doors locked and their sign gone. I assume they have gone out of business.

Shred it has a contract that goes into an auto 1 year contract after the original has expired. You have to write them 30 days prior to contract expiration to cancel. If you cancel before the end of contract expiration, you have to give them 60 days notice and they will charge you for the remainder of service contract. So its' like an ETF at a phone company. They say they charge this remainder, if you "terminate w/o cause" Well, I think consistently being late is just cause, but they call that "unforeseeable circumstances as they can't help a driver being sick, or a broken down truck". Well , apparently, they don't 'have any back up for these "unforeseeable circumstances". And it has happened every month since December, our contract ends in July. (almost there!)The are always not showing up on time and never calling to tell you that they are running a day or a week late. We also have had attitude from the driver b/c we always have extra boxes of shred that our 2 large containers don't hold as they only service our area one time a month....if they are on time. As I mentioned that we have extra boxes...the charge for this is $5 copy paper box or $15 shred it bag. We usually have enough to fill a 3rd bag, which is around 6-8 boxes. They charge us per box at $30-$40 extra dollars instead of the lower $15. I have called numerous times to complain and try to get out of the contract. Now we just have them service our 2 bins, and give our extra boxes to another service. As Russel W. said, be vary leary of the contracts that you sign. You may not be able to get out of it as easily as you think. There are plenty of other shredders out there that don't have a contract, for the same fee schedule, which means they keep their customers by actually being a decent, to their word company! read more
