Not only were these guys the cheapest price in town, they were fast, efficient, and friendly. I also appreciated the fact that the pricing was upfront about the add ons of the services rather than hidden in the fine print. If it costs extra to have them haul it from a 3rd floor condo I appreciate knowing upfront, rather then getting the runaround, or a quote that went from $170 - $250, like some of the other companies I shopped around with gave me. I also really appreciated the fact that when there was a glitch on the website, and I was accidently not charged the full price for taking my appliance removal, they called me promptly on Monday morning to explain the situation and see if I was still agreeable to use their services, and allowed me to choose the best way to pay the difference. That actually meant a lot t me. It showed that they respect their customers. Jake and Greg were very friendly, and awesome at their jobs. They helped me unhook my appliances as well, and hauled them safely away while being very respectful to my home. I recycled my couch through SBC recycle. The whole process took ~5 minutes and it was smooth. And it was much cheaper than the other recyclers/junk removers. I compared about 10 of them. They charge extra money if the furniture (or whatever product) is inside the house, as it is difficult for them to take the product out. Mine was within 5 steps from the main entrance door. Since only one person comes in to pick the couch, I had to give him a hand to take the take it outside the house through the door. I wasn't charged extra since I gave him a hand. If he had to carry all by himself, I would have been charged extra. I thought at least two persons would show up, but I was wrong. It would have been disappointing if I had been charged $20 or so for those 5 steps required to take the couch out, because the mover expects to carry the furniture out single-handed, using a dolly or something. No complaints though - Just be advised that there could only be one person showing up and it could end up costing you more if it isn't super-easy for that one person to pick it up by himself. read more

Had no idea how we were going to get rid of our king mattress, so I googled it. I actually thought this was a scam at first since it seemed so easy and affordable! I was shocked that you could schedule a same day pick-up... I mean, who wants a king mattress taking up space?? Booked it for same day at about 9:30am, got a text at 12:45pm that they were on their way, and about 30 minutes later it was gone. Easy peasy! My only minor complaint was that it gives you the initial fee of $40 on the website and doesn't give you the full total, +$60=$100, until AFTER you've entered your card information and submitted the order. I still would have paid this, but it seemed a little odd that you didn't see that until after. To be fair, they do say that the $40 is just the recycling fee and that there is an additional pick-up fee based on your location (or vice versa, can't remember). All in all, I highly recommend this service for easy mattress recycling/disposal! read more

Super helpful and really fast to respond to enquiries. I was looking for a good chair for my home office. I found SBC Recycle had a listing on ebay for a steelcase leap, but as they were in Portland, I figured I'd give them a call to see if I could pick it up to avoid shipping and delivery delay. I sent them an email, and got a response in 5 minutes inviting me to come to their warehouse to try it out before I committed to buying. A few minutes later, I was at the warehouse and being shown to the stock of chairs they had. The staff here helped me get the chair into my car (they also offered to deliver it for free later in the day if it didn't fit). Finally, let's talk about the price. Admittedly the chair was not new, and was probably acquired in a liquidation auction, but I paid 1/5 of the new price when bought from sites like wayfair or steelcase's own site. Can recommend SBC Recycle for being convenient, friendly and efficient. I needed to dispose of large, heavy, old appliances (refrigerator and cabinet TV). Placed the order on-line - website is generally easy to use. Liked that I could schedule a day that was convenient for me. Costs per item are very reasonable, but be prepared for the "extra" costs added at the end of the order process for truck, extra person, retrieving the item from a second or third floor and for narrowing the pick-up window - I was still happy with the overall cost based on convenience, but it's not readily apparent on the website what the service will cost, all-in. Driver notified me by text within 20 mins of arrival. Both Bert and his assistant were friendly and respectful and did all the work to remove these heavy bulky items, with care not to damage anything in the process. Our washer broke recently, and we needed it hauled away. I shopped all over town and was quoted $75+ to pick it up for recycling. SBC's website was very easy to navigate and very straightforward in its pricing. I was nervous at first that it would bait me for information and not actually give me a price until someone called. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the quote is very straightforward: the less he has to do (come inside, deal with flights of stairs, etc.) and the more flexible you are with the pickup window, the cheaper the service. We were lucky to have access to a dolly and moved the washer out to the curb for pickup for a total charge of $34. Hands down the best price in town and I was very pleased to see that he hauled off the appliance during the promised time. I have used SBC Recycle twice in the past year. The first time the compressor in my chest freezer broke. I purchased a used upright freezer from SBC. The delivered the upright and removed the chest freezer on the morning that I contacted them. I was very satisfied with services. This time my dryer started acting up, it probably needs a need belt, and then the washer broke. I looked at getting the pair fixed, but then thought it would not be a whole more expensive to purchase a new set. I contacted SBC about recycling the washer and dryer. Jake showed up with the truck the day after I contacted SBC. He called fifteen minutes before arriving and up the pair in about ten minutes. Jake was friendly, competent, timely, and efficient. For a $20 pickup fee it is a steal if you want to recycle old appliances. I would recommend these guys anytime. read more

SBC Recycle is fantastic to use when the recycling need arises! I had an old bar-b-q as well as a bunch of old electronic items that were lingering around my house for far too long; however, I did not know where to take the items and did not have the transportation means to haul them away myself. Upon calling SBC Recycling I was able to set up a recycling pick up time the very next day and items left at my curb were gone by the time I arrived home the day of the pick up. David was very responsive to follow up questions I had the day of the pick up, going above and beyond any customer service I expected. I am so grateful for SBC. They allow me to be true to my values despite being older and less strong than before, and not owning a pick-up . My husband and I score below poverty level in income, but I gladly paid the cost for SBC to pick up and recycle an old mattress and an old CRT television. The thought of these items going into landfill is unimaginable to me. The driver named Max, picked up the T.V. and threw it on one shoulder while walking up an incline from the basement door. It had taken every ounce of energy for two of us to get it from a table to a dolly ! The fact that he was so pleasant was just a bonus. I had 2 dead washers and a dead dryer that I was getting rid of. Just bought new ones to replace them with and needed them out of my house asap. It was a Saturday at noon... website says they do not do pickups on weekends except special requests.. they lied.. ;) ... submitted pickup request... immediately put them all on the curb and in less than 45 minutes... the driver shows up and picked them all up for me. He was super friendly and even offered to take a old monster rear projection TV for us at no extra charge... that freed up some garage space as well. He even let me use his hand truck to move the new units into my house. I couldn't be happier. A ton of room was cleared up out of my house with a quick web submittal and $15.00 ... SBC recycle picked up some old mattresses that we didn't want any more. The website made it easy to arrange. The pickup was on the scheduled day. I was able to leave the mattresses at the end of my driveway and SBC picked them up without anything else on my part. Very convenient! One suggestion I would make would be that SBC actively confirm your scheduled appointment with you via email or phone. If they can pick up on your specified preferred day, they will not contact you to reschedule (no news is good news). For me this was the next day. Super convenient! I called them up on the day of just to make sure it actually was the case, as it seemed too good to be true. Aside from that very minor hangup the service was great. Will use again. read more

The appointment was really easy to setup and pay for. I accidentally didn't request pickup of my couch, so I emailed them and got the couch added to my pickup request with no hassle. I choose the anytime pickup option (8am-5pm), and got a call 15 minutes before David arrived around noon. I was surprised that it was just him since I specified that I needed a couch and bed moved from an upstairs apartment which cost me $70 extra. I ended up helping David carry the couch down 3 flights of stairs because I knew there was no way he could do that by himself. I had an old bulky 42" flat screen TV that I wanted to get rid of but wouldn't be able to get down my apartment's outdoor stairs. Their location was about 3 miles away, a distance that cost me $35 for pickup. Their website was upfront about this cost, and it was the only amount I was charged for the whole experience. I selected the option to leave my item outside and not be disturbed, and that was exactly my experience. I put my TV right outside my front door in the morning with a "Scheduled for pickup" note attached, and sometime in the early afternoon, it was picked up completely unnoticed. No hassle, very fair pricing structure. Friendly staff. They offer recycling of products I have around the house (metal based). Hauling a dirty outdoor LP grill to the landfill just did not seem like a good solution, recycling is preferred. Scheduled pick up thru their webpage without issues. Added items later without any hassles (broken down metal/wood garden bench). The pickup driver confirmed I could recycle my old funky lawn mower, without having to drain fuel or oil. That is a ten star for me. They have been around for a decade so far, I would not expect them to fold up overnight like so many vendors. SBC made it so easy to dispose of an old queen-size mattress that was taking up valuable space in the garage. For an extra $10 each he also picked up an old stove and an old dryer no longer needed. Great! I didn't even have to bring them curbside, David came right into the garage and took care of business quickly and courteously. We found SBC Recycling after another hauling company informed us that they could not pick up an old refrigerator and a huge TV from our location. That company recommended SBC, and SBC got the job done the next business day. Fantastic service by the driver, and their website is excellent and easy to use. One tip to save you money: if you can, move your items outside your house/business, or else SBC will charge an additional $70 to go in and retrieve them. If you live in the Portland area and need to get rid of any items that are large, bulky, or may not be eligible to drop off at a Metro transfer station, you want to call SBC or check out their website. read more

At a time when I felt like I was losing my mind trying to do a household purge - juggling craigslist postings, Goodwill runs, etc - SBC was a mental-health-saving discovery. We had 2 couches no one wanted and were stumped with what to do next. I came across SBC on Yelp, went to their website, selected the couch sizes, date, time, paid and - voila! - couches gone. When getting a new mattress, what do you do with the old one? You schedule an appointment for SBC Recycle to come and get it. It was incredibly easy to schedule on their website and all i had to do was leave the mattress outside of my garage when I left for work in the morning. It was gone by the time i got back home from work and I didn't have to think about a thing, or make a trip to a dump! Easy and painless.
