Finally I found Steve! I brought my 120 pounds of tax returns and business files to Steve's Shredding. Steve helped me bring them in from my car. I watched and chatted with Steve as he shredded them. In about 20 minutes it was all done, his price was very reasonable, and I wished I had more to shred so I could talk with him longer. I live an hour drive from Steve's place, so I scheduled another appointment in Portland the same day to make the trip worth it. No need for that, Steve is worth a special trip any time. Surprise Bonus: There's a dog training and boarding company in the same building. I got to meet that business owner and pet a couple of doggies. What a great day!

After a few phone calls, I went with Data Safe for a few reasons & really happy that I did. **The price was reasonable and in line with, or better than other "mobile shredding services." **Javier that did the scheduling was great. He got back to me right away and was very flexible, which I really appreciated. ****Christopher came out today to take care of our shredding job. He was by himself but extremely EFFICIENT. They could have sent 3 people to do this job and it wouldn't have gone faster, or ran more efficiently. He's beyond AMAZING and I hope, he's valued highly as an employee.**** From start to finish.... Every step was "perfection"! I have other shredding jobs coming up and no matter the size, I'll be calling this company. I'll also try to request Christopher, if allowed. Lastly, I was given a bid based on my own guessing of quantity. It turned out to be much less, so final bill was adjusted accordingly. Many companies will list the bid amount and state "This amount plus any additional fees will be added & due at time of service." You rarely see a company these days charge an "Adjusted Amount, lower than the original bid." Btw... This shredding job, done on behalf of employer. The process was easy because I didn't have to remove items like paper clips and staples, which saved me hours - not to mention hundreds of paper cuts! I appreciated the friendly customer service I received each time I called them. They walked me through all of the services / options they offered (including on-site and off-site shredding) and helped me figure out what would work best for me. They even worked with me when I realized that my company had approximately twice the amount of boxes we originally thought we needed to dispose of. Everybody I called from Shred Northwest was super friendly. I really appreciated how each customer representative took the time to answer all of my questions regarding different shredding options, pricing, and the shredding process. This was my first time using any shredding company, and I had called several other companies in Portland to request quotes. Some of the other companies weren't that friendly or helpful, and others were much smaller operations that functioned out of a person's home (which didn't feel as secure to me). I definitely liked how Shred Northwest had the capacity to load 120 boxes into their truck and shred all of it at a secure location. I would definitely recommend using Shred Northwest for your shredding needs, especially if you have a larger project. If he's not, he's usually able to meet you within a reasonable amount of time. I have called Phil on weekends at the last minute to ask if I can bring my shredding in. He's always helpful in working with you so that you could drop off your shredding. The first couple of times I drove to Salem Shred I ended up driving around and around looking for the business. Salem Shred has an address of Lancaster Drive but the warehouse type building is located behind the Blue Willow restaurant on Lancaster Drive. If I need any shredding done in the future, I would definitely call Phil.

In most industries, a consumer can always move service to a competitor if we are dissatisfied. But in these monopoly utilities, I think the only answer is stronger regulation by the franchising authority, since they do not feel any pressure to improve from customer-switching. Their absolute refusal to change practices, coupled with escalating and outrageous fees convinces me we have to find a way to revoke their franchise so they are not allowed to continue abusing their customers so severely.
