Chicken quesadilla.

Me and a friend came here for lunch while waiting on a car from Chevrolet. We were seated immediately by our very attentive server, Cheryl. I loved the feel of this place; very laid back. The food we ordered was very good. I had sweet chile calamari with cheese that was to die for. I would definitely come back here again.

I've been here a few times lately for live music. I've seen Tammy & the Others a few times and Phoenix. They both kicked ass but I may be impartial since I know people in the bands so this review is for Shortways. I can't say much about the food. I struggle being completely vegan and will eat vegetarian when I'm with other people to be social able. The margarita pizza was phenomenal! The have a great selection of bar pies, I don't think you'll be disappointed. They have a good selection of beer on draft. It could be a little bit colder but it hits the spot nicely. The bartenders & servers are all friendly. Some times I have a hard time getting their attention but maybe I should be more assertive? Anyway I recommend checking them out for some live music, pizza and beer.

Shortway's is exactly what you'd come to expect from a local American bar -- it's the kind of place with regulars that visit multiple times a week. There's lots of seating, both indoor and out, and plenty of standard bar offerings. Boyfriend and I both got burgers, and both were overcooked but still good and juicy. The service was slow, but I know many establishments are understaffed these days. TLDR: the food/experience isn't anything to write home about, but it's a good local option for sure.

I've been a Hawthorne resident most of my life and this was my first time eating here a few weeks ago. Ambiance: A typical American style bar/restaurant. I went on a rainy Thursday night and the place was fairly quiet. Casual attire and parking lot was right on the property so I didn't get too fussed about walking in the rain. Price Point: In line with what is around for this style/quality/quantity of food and drink. Maybe a little pricier than what I expected, being that the comparable places I'm thinking of are the newer spots in and around town where I expect to pay the premium. Pros: The food was good, and the salad was presented well. I got the Bourbon Chicken Wings and Grilled Chicken Cobb Salad. The chicken (wings and grilled) was hot and the salad was cold, tasted fresh, and enjoyable all around. The food came out in a timely manner and service was good. Cons: As you can see in the picture, the wings had very few vegetables. I see this at most places I go so it's not just here, but I just don't understand why places won't serve at least one vegetable for each wing. It just makes the dish look cheap to me. Also, my guest and I both ordered a Blue Moon beer and we typically drink blue moon whenever we go out. What they served us tasted like a knock off lager. Not bad, but something tasted off. We ordered it again thinking they served a different beer the first time, but it still tasted the same. Overall: I certainly would come back here, and I think it's a great Hawthorne staple! It's been here for so long I almost feel bad for not visiting sooner. I'm hoping they are more lively at other times during the week, otherwise they may struggle to be competitive with the newer spots opening up. I could see this being a 5 star rating, but due to the beer mishap, overall quiet ambiance, and nothing really exciting me about being here, it's a solid 4 for me.

I want to give a 3-1/2 star review, but since that's not possible, it has to be 3. This is my review after 3 visits. Shortway's is a great place to go if you're an established regular and I honestly don't think it's worth the time and effort to become one. The food is okay. There's a large selection from pizza, quesadillas, pasta dishes to full on pork chop entrees. Today my husband and I both got burgers. They were slightly over cooked for what we asked for and very greasy. The sweet potato fries were crispy, but unseasoned. My husbands onion rings were decent. The beer is cold and they have a pretty decent selection, but good luck getting a second drink. The staff is friendly enough, but if there's a bunch of regulars in attendance, you'll be playing second fiddle to most of the people at the bar. We also had no idea they had live music. It was extremely loud for the space and amount of people at the bar. Personally not something I'm into when I'm just trying to eat an early dinner on Sunday evening. Shortway's is a clean place for a cold beer and alright bar food. You probably can't go wrong catching a game here, just know you'll probably have to work a little bit to get served if there's regulars around.

To be clear, the high tops are the booths you also see in pictures (we were confused ahead of walking in). It's definitely elevated bar food with a bit of pizzaz!! We ordered WAY too much food but wanted to try a lot of things. We went for a bunch of apps and then shared the bolognese which I also really enjoyed. The cocktails are top tier. An ex Hoboken girlie, I have a very specific standards to cocktails and this places knocks it out the park. The waitress was wildly helpful (suggestions and attentive) and she was funny, brownie points! New staple for us, go check it out

Our server was very pleasant and made us feel welcome right away. We went on a Sunday evening, and the back dining area was almost empty. If you're looking for a livelier vibe, the front is probably the better choice, but the back works great for something more quiet and intimate. I was craving the bolognese, but they were out that night, so we ordered the candied nut and beet salad and the pepperoni pizza with honey. Both were very good, but the salad definitely made more of a "wow" impression. Overall, we had a really pleasant time.

Blue 42 158 Market St…read more Elmwood Park, NJ 07407 Peanut Butter & Jelly Wings S'mores Wings Blue 42 Burger Located near the corner of Market Street and Mulberry Street off the Route 80 overpass is a locally owned sports bar that specializes in gourmet wings. With over 180 wing flavors to choose from, the only problem you will have is deciding because you will want to explore this seemingly never ending list. These are a couple of the wings I explored: Peanut Butter & Jelly Wings: These wings were smothered in creamy peanut butter with a heaping mound of jelly. At first I was reluctant to explore this unusual combination, but as soon as I gave it a try, it was love at first bite. Feel free to smear or dip; the choice is yours. S'mores Wings: This is another unique, but unbelievably savory combination. These dessert style wings were smothered in marshmallow cream, drizzled with chocolate syrup, and sprinkled with crushed pieces of graham crackers. It was a sight for sore eyes. If you need additional chocolate sauce don't be afraid to ask for "s'more." And make sure you request "s'more" napkins because you will certainly need them! In addition to the wings, I also explored one of the main courses. Blue 42 Burger: Named after the restaurant, this burger is topped with mozzarella sticks, blue cheese crumble and bacon. The Blue 42 char on top of the bun has a nice decorative touch. If you are a fan of the Green Bay Packers, you have come to the right spot. The interior is decorated with Packers memorabilia, which even includes wall art on the ceiling. All fans are still welcome even if you aren't an aficionado of the Packers. The restaurant staff also supports New Jersey's finest, New Jersey's bravest, the ambulance corp, and the armed forces. I truly enjoyed dining at this local bar and I see why their wings are high profile. #blue42 #wingman #wingmanblue42 #blue42elmwoodpark #blue42burger #smoreswings #smores #peanutbutterandjelly #peanutbutterandjellywings #pbj #pbjwings #elmwoodparknj #GreenBayPackersFans #njfinest #njbravest #AmbulanceCorp #armedforces

There is a real…read morecase here of not being able to see the forest for the trees when faced with nearly 200 varieties, many of which, upon closer inspection, amount to the same handful of flavors rearranged into slightly different combinations. It feels rooted in the same philosophy that says a man buys three suits and somehow discovers endless outfits within them. But is there anything wrong with just three good suits? Do all possible combinations truly have value? At what point does variety become a little ridiculous? That said, the bones -- so to speak -- are very good. The wings are fried well, generously sauced, and satisfying in whatever flavor palette you ultimately settle on. Just do not expect the decision-making process to come easily.

The food was good and drinks were too. The space and workers were also very accommodating. Clean bathrooms and everything. My place of employment wanted to book somewhere to have our holiday gathering after work for December 2025. I visited U Bar in person in late October to inquire about such an event for approximately 70 people. The host informed me to get in touch with the owner due to such a large amount of people and just wanted to ensure that it could be accommodated as needed. I had no problem with that and she gave me the business card, I bought some grilled chicken pasta Alfredo and headed home. As soon as I got home I spoke to the owner Eddy both via text and call. We spoke about what accommodations I would need, he said no problem. I reiterated to him that it was something that would be very informal and he told me that since it was on Friday, he would honor the "college Friday" deal that they have for college students for myself and colleagues as well. As you can imagine I was all for it, he booked it for December 19th at 4pm. He told me that he could open earlier for us, but just for the downstairs section which was perfectly fine. No hassle. After the call, I got an automated text stating that my reservation for "15" people had been booked and confirmed. I called him back immediately and told him that the reservation was for 70 problem as discussed, not 15. He told me not to worry that it'll be fixed in the system eventually but that I didn't have to worry about the glitch. I said okay fine. Keep in mind, this was late October this all transpired. Fast forward to December 11th 2025, I got an automated text stating that my reservation had been updated to 70 people. Not sure why it took a month and a half to "update" the number of people but I didn't care as long as the agreement we had had been met the day of. Then the VERY NEXT DAY on 12/12, I got an automated text stating that my reservation for 12/19 had been canceled altogether. Feeling understandably confused and annoying, I called U Bar at least 6 times to speak to someone to clear up what the confusion about the reservation is because I'm only a week out from the date of the event at this point. NO ONE picked up the phone but they were definitely open at the time. Remembering that I had Eddy's number from speaking to him prior, I called him to no answer but then texted him to explain my grievance. He then proceeded to respond back and say that the restaurant, managers as well as HIMSELF had been calling me prior to because I had two reservations booked. Now, keep in mind, I didn't actually make the reservation on my end, HE, the OWNER, made the reservation based on our conversation. I explained how disappointed I was that the reservation would be cancelled without notice. He informed me that he would speak to the manager about the situation. He hasn't gotten back to me. I then spoke to my best friend who had the idea of calling the restaurant and sneaking a merged call where I could speak to them. He did in fact get in contact with someone at U Bar (I heard it myself) but then the line disconnected. He called back immediately and no one picked up. No one there ever called me about having two reservations. I tend not to even believe that I had two reservations because ... 1. I never booked any reservation there on MY end. 2. Why didn't I receive an automated message about the "other" reservation that was allegedly booked as I had gotten about the one for the event? 3. The owner alleged that I had a reservation booked for both 12/12 (the day my original reservation was cancelled) AND 12/19 the actual day of the event. But even if I did have two reservations, what difference would that make? Am I not allowed to reserve a spot on multiple days? What would one reservation have to do with the other? None of it makes any sense. They will never see a DIME from me and what's worse is that I was ACTUALLY looking forward to my colleagues and I really visiting this place and getting the same care that I initially felt back in August. Now, I pray for the day this place becomes a parking lot. Unbelievably unprofessional.
