We ordered a brisket Easter dinner from Shortfield's to try and support our local businesses during self-isolation. We are quite disappointed in it. The meal is supposed to be portioned for 4. The potato salad was portioned for 1 or 2. The brisket is dry. The macaroni and cheese tastes like boiled noodles with a bit of cheese sprinkled on it. On top of all that, they charged us $60. We were expecting a much better meal. I would not recommend Shortfields in the future. We will support a different local business. read more

The red wine was a bit harsh so order it early and allow it to breathe while you explore the menu. My husband ordered the Shortfields burger and sweet potato chips as a side and I ordered the creamy potato soup. The sweet potato chips are fabulous, with a hint of cinnamon and red pepper! The burger was delicious, huge, perfectly cooked and juicy with lettuce, tomato, onions and mushrooms. I had to "help" him eat it! My potato soup was very good, thick, creamy, and loaded with potato chunks, green onions, and sausage. Everything tasted really fresh and homemade. Service was excellent, noise was moderate, and we really liked not hearing the TVs from the bar side. We will definitely be back. read more

I wasn't very pleased with this being my first time coming. Got Fried Pickles as an appetizer, for entree I got the Veggie burger and my husband got the chicken Alfredo. The veggie burger had my mind very confused. The bun was massive on the top but yet the bottom of the bun was so thin that it was falling apart and it had no seasoning. The pickles weren't good at all Husband said the Alfredo was good but just wasn't good for the price you are paying. The service was absolutely awful and that's why I had to give it 2 stars. I realize it was busy but I felt I never say my waiter. We got our drinks filled only once and that's when we got our to-go boxes. Overall I wasn't very pleased and I won't be returning. read more

I was a little skeptical from outward appearance, but the staff and food was great. We both ordered the Southern cordon Blue with different sides. The chicken was juicy and perfectly prepared. Many places smother the chicken with sauce. But the Dijon based sauce was just the right amount to enhance the flavor without masking. The sautéed spinach was flavorful. The collards were great. Grandma would be amazed. The garlic mashed and the new potatoes were cooked perfectly. All of the staff was friendly and they helped each other. Our waiter, Scott was on top of everything. The check came and there was a 20% gratuity added along with a 3.5 charge for using a card. Talk about nickel and diming people! Second visit at Shortfield's over the weekend. We had a group of 16 and planned ahead and reserved their larger private party room. Very reasonable reservation charge for the room. Every person liked the menu choices and found something to please them. Their shrimp and grits and their chicken and waffles were a big hit with several in our group. I have some of the pickiest eaters for kiddos with some very astute taste buds. Nothing gets by these little foodies. When we went to lunch yesterday and the food arrived all I head was. This looks amazing, these taste fantastic, this is a wonderful presentation. Each child as well as myself were more than pleased with our meals. The kids chicken fingers, perfection was the rating. 10 out of 10...when I asked my son why, he said; there was 3 nicely sized chicken fingers, the breading made for perfect crispness and season was delicious. The best part was their width it was perfect size for childs mouth. And the tenderness and quality of the chicken was perfect! This review from a very tough food critic was amazing, I just had to tell others. My other kids ate the Mac n Cheese which was also given a 10, the creaminess, the elbow pasta cooked to perfection, and the portion was also excellent. In addition to the delicious food is the size of their booths. They are oversized which allows easily 6 adults to fit into them and possibly up to 8 people in the booths. If you want a wonderful meal stop in at Shortfields the servers have been there for ages which speaks to the quality of ownership and all aspects of their business. Out of towner here passing through town. Sat at the bar. Bartender was as pleasant and knows how to read people well. I was a bartender for 20+ years. He is a seasoned pro. Had the Cowboy burger w/ sweet potato chips. Burger was cooked perfectly and the chips were delicious. The only thing I didn't like were the open straws being touched and put in the glass during Covid. Between cash handling, touching patrons glasses and plates, straws should be wrapped and let the guests unwrap their own straws or partially pre pulled by the staff leaving the paper on top. Stopped in for a quick bite with the family after a long day of whitewater rafting. Our server John was fantastic and had some great recommendations for both food & drinks. The food here is spectacular!! From the burgers to the fish and chips my boys and husband had to my rack of lamb. Everything was very fresh and seasoned perfect. The final touch was the carrot cake which was to die for!! Apparently most of the deserts are made by the owners's moms. Kudos to the Moms!! Cozy family place with a little bit of everything!! First time here on this gloomy Friday for lunch. I ordered the Gossett burger with fries upon a recommendation from a friend. The pimento cheese, which I tasted alone, was awesome. The burger was cooked to order and generous in portion. The bun was very fresh. It was one of the best burgers I have had in awhile. The large side of seasoned fries were cooked perfectly... crispy outside and soft inside. Addictive! Service could not have been better... They were very polite and our drinks were refilled promptly. The atmosphere felt dirty and it was Smokey in the whole place. The wait staff was slow. They didn't even have enough staff to sit people. We waited for a table and our food for over an hour. The server brought our drink and we didn't see him again. I will never go back to this restaurant. Terrible service and dirty feeling. Bathroom door didn't even work properly to open and close. Very gross and over priced. After an hour Food didn't come so we got up and left. Waiter NEVER came to our table once to even tell us sorry for the wait. Never saw him again after he took our order. I have been driving past this restaurant since 2004 and finally went in. The menu is abundant with choices. The service was fast and friendly. To start we had the French Onion soup. The broth is rich and the cheese was perfectly melted. I had the steak with caramelized onions, medium rare. Potatoes and garlic green beans. To say that this was the best steak I have had in SC would be an understatement. The food was amazing. And for dessert they have a lemoncello cake that is the best dessert of my life. Not heavy, light flavor, so yummy. I want to take an entire cake home. Initially we tried to dine outside because inside was very noisy, but there were many flies, so we stayed indoors. The second time we went I had the Moroccan rack of lamb. Eight giant lambchops, Moroccan spices and a wonderful rice/couscous dish. And the server remembered us. This is a must eat at restaurant. Shortfields is a wonderful little hidden gem in Simpsonville! The food is wonderfully prepared and elevated above the typical offerings at other casual dining places. I have enjoyed their version of chicken cordon blue and the vegetables are always fresh and delicious. I have also had their filet and it was cooked perfectly. They are always willing to substitute items on the menu to make your meal exactly the way you want it. The staff is friendly and attentive and the manager can always be seen talking to customers and ensuring everything is to your satisfaction. I would definitely recommend Shortfields to anyone looking for a great meal in the Simpsonville area. read more

I have been here a couple times at lunch. The first time I went I ordered the 1lb Spicy Teriyaki wings and a sweet tea. The wings were really good and cooked perfect. My only issue was the sauce could have been a little spicier. I sat at the bar and the service was excellent. In fact when she brought my check I found out that the wings are on special on Wednesdays. They were cheaper than listed on the menu! she also told me that they do a flatbread pizza special on Tuesdays at lunch for only $4! I love a good deal so, next week I went back. I sat at the bar again and ordered the special flatbread pizza she told me about the week before with pepperoni and sausage and a sweet tea. Same excellent service as before. This time the food wasn't on point. The pizza was a bit undercooked and didn't have much flavor. It's like it was missing something. It's still a good deal at $4! Overall a good lunch spot. I will try it again. I plan on trying other menu items next time. With so many places to eat in Simpsonville I hope they step up their flavor game! read more

Tried this location after wonderful experiences at the Travelers Rest location, but my visit was very disappointing. 1. I ordered the wedge salad with grilled chicken, it my favorite in TR. What I received last night was pathetic. The "wedge" was three tiny chunks of iceberg lettuce. 2. In addition to the rationed lettuce, the toppings were also skimpy. I literally had to look to onions and bacon because all I saw was around five cherry tomatoes. All the fixings were also tossed in the bottom of the bowl which was frustrating. 3. The blue cheese was watery, much like the consistency of Italian dressing. 4. The grilled chicken was disgusting. I have literally had better chicken out of a hospital cafeteria. It had a bit of and was not seasoned at all and had the taste and consistency of boiled chicken. Also, the chicken had a bit of slimy texture on the outside that I did not care for. I tried to eat the chicken by dipping it in the watery blue cheese but I couldn't bare more than two bites and left the rest on the plate. 5. The restaurant was blazing hot. 6. Our waitress came to the table three times: to take our order, the give us the bill, and the bring the check back. 7. If I would have had phone, I would have taken pictures of the salad. Overall, the experience was very disappointing, especially in light of the great visits I have had at the TR location. read more

Very underwhelming dining experience at Shortfields. The dishes are overpriced, especially considering the quality of food presented. Everything I ate was over salted and lacking in flavor. My wife ordered a special dish, in which the tuna was prepared very well, but was very small in comparison to the heaping side of flavorless noodles. The waitress took her order for a salad and a side vegetable, neither of which were delivered to the table. I ordered the chicken and waffles, the waffles appeared to be from a toaster and the quality of the chicken was poor. Our waitress was incredibly nice and hard working, however was having to balance too many customers as she was also the bartender so her time with us was sparse. It was a Friday night so the restaurant was very busy, possibly contributing to the poor food as well. Took around 45 minutes for our food to be served. Sunday Funday, bottomless mimosas for $12. Call some friends and Uber over for brunch. Sat outside on this beautiful fall day. There are booths near the door in the shade and tables with some sun out in front. A Sunday brunch menu was offered with several delicious options. One of our diners chose Eggs Benedict with hollandaise and roasted potatoes. Another ordered fish tacos, and I decided on the herb crusted grouper with roasted red pepper and tomato sauce. This plate came with a salad which included an assortment of greens, cucumber, tomatoes, and homemade basalmic. Delicious and more than a side salad. While everyone was pleased with their food, I was a bit disappointed in the grouper. The sauce was served on top and looked like it had sat on the fish too long. It also had more of a pan fried coating on it which I was not expecting. Generous plate and priced fairly though. The sides of wilted spinach and roasted potatoes were nicely prepared. Friendly service and overall a good experience. Will return for the mimosas! Note on previous visit: I had the crab cakes and liked them much more. The key lime pie rolled in chocolate was also great. read more

My last two visits to Shortfields were for the Sunday Brunch. On both occasions, the brunch selection I ordered came with breakfast potatoes and on both occasions my selection was served to me minus the potatoes. On both occasions, I made our server aware as soon as the plate was set in front of me and on both occasions the server acted non interested and non apologetic. He did eventually return to our table with a bowl of potatoes; however I was almost entirely finished with my brunch when the potatoes arrived. I feel that I've given this establishment several opportunities to show they are in tune with great service and in tune with their own menu; however I've been disappointed every single time. So sad...considering your wait staff IS your face to the customer and in the case of Shortfields in Simpsonville they've lost me. read more

I was impressed with the Wedge salad, and the Caprese was very good. The owners have done a great job utilizing the space. I will continue to visit. Living in Bells Crossing area of Five Forks, I would typically head there or further up Woodruff Rd. I like having a reason to visit Simpsonville.
