Tanya, I was the one who took your order. From the very first moment you came to the drive-thru to order you were very rude. You came to the window, where I had your large sweet tea ready along with your chicken finger plate with fries and salad with 1000 island dressing, along with an extra honey mustard. I started repeating the order to you to make sure I had everything correct for you. In the middle of repeating your order, you cut me off and said "yeah, I'm going to need a bag for that" while waving your hand at me in a dismissive way. I thought it was rude how you cut me off, but did not care because I deal with entitled customers like you all the time. I took your card used tap to pay for your payment, handed you your large sweet tea and your straw. I then went to grab a bag for you. I put your food in the bag, put your card and receipt on top of the food in the bag, handed you the bag and said, "card and receipt in the bag." I proceeded to take another customers order. I saw you were still at the window so I opened the window and said "Yes, ma'am?" With attitude you replied "Wheres my card?" I said "I gave it to you ma'am." You said, "No you did NOT where is my CARD?!" again with attitude. I said, "Ma'am I told you it is in the bag along with your food and receipt." You got very mad and started yelling at me "WHAT?!?! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!?! DON'T YOU EVER DO THAT AGAIN!!" I was extremely confused and laughed nervously because I had no idea what was happening. You told me, "you're supposed to HAND it to the customer, you MUST be new here." I said "1) you are not the boss of me. I have put customer's cards and receipts in the bag several times, and have NEVER gotten this reaction. 2) You did not hear me say it was in the bag because you were too busy being rude and dismissive. 3) I told you it was my parent's restaurant to which you replied "You are NOT an owner." To which I replied, "No ma'am I just said it was my parent's business" - another time you seemed not to listen. You told me I had no idea how to deal with customers and asked for a manager. From that point i told you I was a manager and that you were rude the entire time, very dismissive, and were entitled. You did not like that I called you out. So you THREW your food at me. Yes, THREW at me, and asked for a refund. (Which the car behind you witnessed as well as my coworker) AFTER you assaulted me. Therefore, I told you to leave. You said, "I am going to call the police" I replied, "For them to do what...? You assaulted me I did nothing wrong." From here I told you to leave and I was not going to give you a refund. I closed the window as you sat there, I contemplated giving you a refund because of how rude you were to me. I decided to be the bigger person and give you the refund. I gave you verification that your refund was processed and asked for the large sweet tea back since I refunded you. I told you not to come back ever again also. Instead of giving me the drink and leaving you tried to THROW the drink at me. To which I replied, "DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE" A bag full of food is one thing, but a drink!?!? Tanya you are so classless and such white trash it is insane. You told me, "Do not curse at me!!" Like I was in the wrong here.... lmfao. So since you decided you wanted to play games, I was ready to play. I said, "BITCH DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE!" You reluctantly gave me the drink. I told you not to ever fucking come back. You said, "you're lucky the cops aren't here." I said, "Yeah, you're lucky cause we would have pressed charges. Now fucking leave and never come back." The young man who served me was taking over the business from his father, along with his brother. He was so warm and welcoming it felt as if we already knew each other. Initially, I wanted fried chicken but he told me that they batter it and cook it fresh with each order, which would take about 20 minutes. I was too hungry to wait that long, so he suggested seafood which would cook more quickly. I ordered the jumbo fried shrimp meal. I don't believe that it took more than 10 minutes. I thought that the food would be lukewarm because it was precooked and was just sitting around. I was wrong. The jumbo shrimp, french fries and hush puppies were freshly cooked, hot and DELICIOUS!!! Once for the chicken, and again for a burger. Fast review: A burger you don't want to wait 10 years to try. Fried chicken that might make Zaxby's rethink their approach. Let's back up Kendall's opened in 2009. Judging by the orange floor tile, this might have been a Hardee's long ago, but they've remodeled quite a bit. The vibe now is part drive-in, part diner. The front counter is right by the entrance. The kitchen sits just beyond a serving partition. To the left is a full-service ice cream case. To the right, a bar where you can watch your food being prepared. There are cushioned booths inside and several picnic tables out on the porch. Pop music plays throughout. The staff? Always moving, always working--but still taking time to say hello. Friendly, efficient, skilled. The owner is doing something right at the very root of a good restaurant: the people. Part 1 - The Chicken Kendall's sits on West Blue Ridge Drive, right in that "is this Sans Souci or City View?" stretch near Cedar Lane Road. It's a stone's throw from Swamp Rabbit Grocery and about 2.1 miles from Cherrydale. Heads up--left turns into the lot require some attention. The nice lady at the counter helped me navigate the menu, and it is wide: specialty burgers, chicken sandwiches, cheesesteaks, salads, seafood, loaded mac & cheese, hot dogs. The printed menu runs five pages. But I was there for the hand-breaded chicken fingers. They offer 4-, 5-, 6-, and 7-piece options, from $5.99 to $9.99, or $12.99 to $16.99 for combos with a side, toast, coleslaw, a dipping sauce, and a drink (hold onto that thought). I ordered the 4-piece combo, upgraded from fries (straight or crinkle!) to mac & cheese, chose Nashville hot sauce (14 options total), and grabbed a Pepsi. $12.99 plus tax and tip. Drinks are self-serve--fountain sodas, tea, water, and regular or strawberry lemonade. I took a half-table by the window, facing the door (IYKYK). Within minutes, my food arrived--hot, fresh, and plated. Presentation? Classic diner style. Real plate, real bowl. The toast was a thick, golden slice--perfect for making two little chicken sliders. I'm not a coleslaw fan, but this one was crisp, not overly mayo-heavy, and not soggy. The mac & cheese is worth the trip by itself. Creamy roux, real cheese flavor, each elbow noodle still slightly al dente, still steaming when it hit the table. This is closer to Mom's kitchen than anything rehydrated from a cup. And the chicken? About perfect. Tender, juicy, fried just right. You can taste the difference between hand-breaded and "fresh-from-the-box." This was the real thing. Only complaint: I wish the four tenders were a little larger. The Nashville sauce brought the heat. Next time I'm trying the Gold BBQ, Korean BBQ, and Sweet Red Chili. Stay tuned for part 2!
