Review Update: After…read moremy initial review, Eric (the sales rep) and Matt (the owner) of Sunline personally reached out to me and was apologetic about the situation. They sent Travis out promptly, who is their electrician where he found that the issue was resolved by replacing a faulty 40-amp breaker that was intermittently providing the necessary voltage, even though measurements initially appear correct. While the breaker issue caused real inconvenience and unexpected costs on my end, the owner was responsive and showed willingness to smooth things over to work toward a resolution. I also want to highlight that the panel upgrade and solar/battery installation itself was clean and well done. The workmanship that Eddie, Manny, Christian and Jamie performed had overall met my expectations, and once the issue was identified, Sunline did step in to correct it. No project is perfect, but how a company responds when problems arise matters a lot. In this case, Sunline's owner and Eric was engaged, responsive, and made a sincere effort to make things right. As an engineer, and after witnessing the symptoms and corrective actions firsthand, I believe the breaker issue was likely a manufacturing defect, and it was unfortunate that it occurred during the holidays. That said, based on how Sunline handled the situation, the overall quality of their work, and the value they offer, I would recommend them and plan to continue using them for future needs.

From start to finish, Jon was friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous. He was incredibly responsive to all of our questions and never made us feel like any concern was too small. What really set Jon apart was his communication throughout the entire process. He kept us informed every step of the way so we always knew what to expect -- no surprises, no uncertainty. That kind of transparency made the whole experience stress-free. The installation itself was done with care and professionalism, and the results speak for themselves. We're truly pleased with the quality of the work. If you're considering solar, I highly recommend reaching out to Jonathan Kibler and the team at Semper Solaris. You'll be in great hands!

I have to say, I can be a very particular person; I want things done a certain way, specifically when it comes to aesthetics. I really like things to blend in, so when I saw them installing the mounts, I quickly asked Gilberto if we could paint them to match. Without hesitation, he said, "Of course we can," and got it done immediately. What they did next was truly over the top. The team noticed some parts of my roof needed quick maintenance and, without me even asking, they fixed them! They even painted a roof vent that wasn't related to the solar panels just so everything would match perfectly. Kasha and Gilberto did an amazing job, but their customer service is what has me recommending this company to everyone. Even the owner, Gabe, really impressed me. I am so glad I went with them. Thank you, team--this was hands down the BEST VALUE out there!

Gabe came recommended from another solar company that did not service residential customers (only…read morebusinesses), and was pleasantly surprised at the responsiveness, attention to detail, clear communications and explanations, and above all else professionalism and courtesy. In the sea of many solar companies who are just trying to turn out installs, Gabe took the time to share his experience, knowledge, and advice. This is a rare situation and one that warrants this write-up. Do yourself a favor before booking any solar company, check the reviews. Many negative complaints stem from the lack of follow-up or follow-thru with commitments after the sale. Getting the panels installed isn't the issue. The issue is getting them services afterwards. For the value, Aloha Solar Power is by far, the best choice for my panels.

Family First Solar Electric - Before

To be clear, my review is based on my interactions, bidding process and scheduling with Family…read morefirst. Here is the whole story: I originally installed solar 9 years ago and recently my solar panels hadn't produced as much as they used to. I requested several quotes and had 3 top contenders. Family first rang me up and I immediately had a gut feeling that they were the ones for the job. I bought an Enphase Envoy metered S and a Combiner Box 4 that I purchased directly from Enphase. What does this mean? Basically, I lost the ability to monitor my solar panels and needed to see if they are producing what they should and feeding back into the grid. My last SDGE electric bill was $590 which was totally ridiculous since I have over 20 solar panels on my roof. Anyways, back to family first, I spoke with Anthony and he was very receptive, called me back to answer my questions, told me what to purchase from Enphase. So , gave him my verbal agreement, he asked for several photos and videos, in which I sent. I spoke to him , had a clear plan of what the job will take, even had a group call with the actual service technician. Appointment made. I took the day off so that I can be on site and get educated and informed in case something was wrong with my panels. Less than 12 hours before they were supposed to show up (the night before), Anthony's technician called me. He said he needed to cancel because he will need a "whole crew" to do this job". I was livid. I explained to him that he made the appointment, was on the group call with me and Anthony, and that he knew what the job needed. I had taken a vacation day from work to be home for the job. But he proceeded to give me excuses how he did not know that the job needed a whole crew. I tried calling Anthony, and my call went straight to voicemail. He called me back and ended up dropping the call. Pretty bummed at the situation, my gut feeling was to cancel the job and hire someone else. I ended up hiring a local company (I posted a review about them). It only took 1 technician and 1 apprentice to do the job. It took them 3 hours to get the install completed. I am glad that I did not have "Family First Solar" do the job. I felt as if they were trying to upsell me on my repair. Instead I hired an actual electrical company who had been around for over 20 years. Bottom line, say what you mean, mean what you say. I don't like to flake on people. If you've made an appointment, keep it. I've learned so much during this process. I'm hoping that by sharing my experience, you can learn as well. In response to Anthony's comments: Yes I sent a video on Wednesday2/14/24 , 2 days prior to the appointment. However, I sent several photos and videos a week prior 2/8/24 via email to Anthony clarifying the project. And ....we had a phone conference call with David and Anthony on the phone detailing the project. Bottom line is: The communication breakdown was not from me, the customer. I did not add any new tasks to the job. I had been discussing the details a week prior. Anyways, the other company I hired did the job in half a day with 1 electrician and 1 apprentice. I guess we can sum up this review as a breakdown in communication and not the job itself. I'll add a star for Anthony's diligence. However, owning up to a mistake and showing extreme ownership is another trait that I would have fully respected.

It may be a little early for a 5 star review, but that's just what my experience has been so far,…read moreand if I encounter an issue or problem, I just can't really imagine them not following through as one would hope. I've casually gotten solar quotes over the years, ready to pounce on something that seemed like a good value from a good, honest, knowledgeable company. It never clicked. Then the net metering agreement was changing and I had to act soon. I sought out quotes from all over. I usually stop Yelp from sending my requests to their sponsored businesses, as I've rarely had good luck with that. Usually a waste of time. But I accidentally clicked to agree to share my quote request info. I thought, "Here we go. I'm about to visit Spam City." Anthony reached out and was one of the ONLY reps to give me a reasonable ballpark estimate without putting me through a ringer of an in-person sales visit. The beauty is, I don't think the total cost varied at all from his estimate. Now, granted, my case was a bit special in that I had previously done concrete work around my house and had that contractor run conduit underground in anticipation of solar. So if where you plan to have panels is far from your breaker box and meter and it'll require a lot of trenching through concrete, expect that he'll need to go to you in person to give you an accurate figure. Nonetheless, I'd probably bet money whatever he says will be a good value.

TIMELY- Uriel called 30 min before his arrival and then, arrived at the stated time. This is particularly helpful so I can move my bunny to another room with all of his belongings. ATTENTION TO DETAIL - I saw him place a protective cloth down on the floor before he placed the ladder and tools down. I also noticed there was a bottle of cleaner with his supplies. He cleaned the inside vents as well as the compressor on the roof. He also tied off a loose wire/when checking the air handler in the ceiling. KNOWLEDGEABLE and THROROUGH - Uriel did a complete system check and then, he sat down with me to explain what was done and why. He addressed the concerns I had about some of the prior readings in terms that I could understand and shared tips that will help ensure my system runs at its most efficient. Example: A higher MERV doesn't always mean "better" and can actually restrict the airflow. He said that for my particular system I should use a MERV10 filter and change it every 3 months. He changed my filters and then, left me with two spares to use before the fall check comes. FRIENDLY - In the course of chatting with Uriel, it came up that I might benefit from having more filtered air coming into my condo. He made a recommendation for a part that would replace the standalone room air purifier I currently use. He placed this info into the after-visit summary so I can "research it and see if it fits with my needs and finances." There was zero pressure to make a purchase on the spot. And while this next item has nothing to do with the knowledge or ability of an HVAC tech, I greatly appreciate that he did NOT smell like cigarette / e-cigarette smoke or strong cologne as I have a bunny and people in my family have asthma. Thank you, Uriel, for a job well done.

It's rare to find a company that plans ahead for you and genuinely cares about getting it right -- we highly recommend SHS Power.

I had to underline May - there's no bar above that month because the house hasn't used any electricity from the grid since the day SHS switched on the system. Today, it was 90 degrees here in Escondido, CA. The AC was free all day and night, and I can set that thermostat anywhere I want! SHS was the 4th company to come out to the house and the only one that had the equipment brands I had heard about and that could move things along at a decent pace. They are a full-service energy company, not just solar and batteries. The company is veteran owned. When Blake first came to the house, I thanked him for his service. Blake, Nate, and Ralphy are incredible! They installed one 14kwh battery (See photo). Glad I didn't have to lift it! The whole system can go outside too. It was going to be too close to my trash cans so I asked for it to be inside. My home was built in 1993, and you wouldn't believe what a mess Ralphy had to sort out in the Challenger service panel (circuit breaker box). What a rat's nest. Now it's clean and tidy with all new breakers. They helped me avoid installing those "Solar Ready" panels for $4100. I had my heart set on EG4 electronics inverters and batteries. SHS knows that product like the back of their hands. The equipment is hardened against EMPs. I hope never to test that! But it feels good to have. And during power outages, my family will be comfortable with lights, intranet, and AC (until it "load sheds" at 50% battery remaining). I chose the best reviewed solar panel to put on the roof - REC Alpha Pure RX. Ridiculously performant. More than anyone needs to spend to get the job done, really. But SHS goes through all that... what panels make sense for you. Specs: 13 REC Alpha Pure RX 460-watt panels EG4 12kPV Inverter - 12k watts of solar handling, 8 kilowatts production at 240 volts, color LCD screen, remote monitoring EG4 14kWh all-weather battery SHS also does battery retrofits into existing systems, which can make a difference depending on what NEM agreement is in play. SHS took care of permitting, which I absolutely refuse to do. I can't stand working with the county.... makes me miserable. SHS just did all that, and fast!

Our initial contact was Peter Kennelly, who was knowledgeable, responsive, and -- importantly -- never pushy. Going into the process, our biggest concerns were making sure the system was properly sized for our actual needs, that the equipment would be reliable, and that we were working with a company we could trust long-term. Stellar did a good job addressing all of those concerns. Communication throughout the process was consistent overall, and the various (many!) teams that came out to the house were professional and clearly experienced. We especially appreciated that they were knowledgeable not just about the equipment itself, but also SDG&E rates, battery strategy, and available rebates/programs. What really surprised us was the speed of the installation. From the first day of roofing to battery installation, panels, inspection, and formal permission to operate, the entire process took only 3.5 weeks. Stellar coordinated multiple internal teams, a roofing subcontractor, and the city seamlessly. The install itself looks clean and the system has been working very well so far (about 3 weeks in). The equipment feels solid and thoughtfully selected rather than oversold. If I had one critique, it would be that communication between some of the internal teams could occasionally have been smoother, but it was never a major issue and things ultimately got handled well. Overall, we're happy we chose Stellar Solar and would recommend them to anyone looking for a quality solar + battery installer.
