If you spend any time "down the Jersey Shore", you MUST have a meal at The Shore Diner!! We haven't been down the shore since last November and had to get the shore house ready for the summer. We ate dinner here on a Sunday evening and the diner was pretty busy. The locals know a good thing when they eat here. We both had a roasted chicken dinner and let me tell you, the portions, the quality, and the choices on their huge menu will knock your socks off. So we're locals and I just wanted a break from cooking ,so let's go to Shore Diner. I don't like to leave bad reviews, however this meal deserved it . All our food had a particular smell like bad food in a refrigerator! I had chicken croquettes ,instant runny mash potatoes ,no seasoning at all ! They were $ 21 on the early bird menu and $21 on the regular?? Ever hear the saying I can't get the bad taste out of my mouth !!! They were so bad the instant potatoes made it awful!! I've been coming here for years and it still hits the spot. Huge classic diner menu, diner decor and a glass case full of various cakes when you walk in makes this a truly classic New Jersey experience. The breakfast is always great. This time around I got a bowl of matzah ball soup which was quite tasty as well. The downside here is the prices. It's kind of insane to spend $30+ per person for breakfast and some coffees, especially in this area. Our server also got lost a few times as well. read more

The hostess greeted us right away with warmth and hospitality when we walked in and took us to our seats. Our server Leah was wonderful, very friendly and helpful in food suggestions and I got the NY strip steak and it was fantastic, done perfectly a little bit of red and tender and juicy! Highly recommend! At the beginning before we received our meal we had a matzo ball soup and chicken orzo soup and both were so good! If you need somewhere on your way to the shore this isn't a bad place to stop but don't expect any bells and whistles. Very typical diner fare without the pizazz of a really cool diner. Service was lackluster but not the worst I ever had, I wouldn't seek this place out but wouldn't avoid going back if it was convenient. read more

I enjoyed a nice salad with chicken at the Shore Diner last night. It's called the "Shore Diner Salad". I have to admit that getting a salad at a diner sounded a bit risky to me, but it actually was pretty good. For $19 I had high expectations. The salad was pretty good sized enough so that I spread it out over two meals. The salad comes with iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, green, apple, caramelized, walnuts (but they weren't really caramelized), cucumbers, an egg, and other fruits. It comes with a choice of salad dressing, and I chose the raspberry vinaigrette. I thought it went very well with the salad. There were two small cups of dressing which were plenty. There was a good amount of chicken on it. The chicken itself was nicely seasoned and it was an enjoyable accompaniment with the salad. Seen this places for 30 years but never ate there. 1st clue would have been, in my 30 years here, I have never heard a single person say "let's go to shore diner". 2nd clue should have been the 8 page 1000 item menu. Everything is way over priced for no reason, it's not like it's in a casino or anything. And Absolutly everything had zero flavor. The tar tar sauce was good. I went here tonight with my family. I was extremely disappointed. The food was of low quality, the prices were very high. I got a turkey meal, which was over $25 dollars and it was made with lunchmeat, not carved turkey. My stepson got chicken fingers with fries and it was $22 dollars. I spent $120 for four of us, no drinks, no desserts, no appetizer. Two adults and two kids. I could see spending that at a steak house or a seafood restaurant, not a dinner. I will never go here again. I'll stick to Mays Landing Diner, the food is high quality, the prices are reasonable, and the staff is so accommodating and nice. read more

Visited this diner with a friend, and I think it's definitely one of the best in the area! The inside was very clean. Our server was very nice and attentive. I got a chocolate chip belgian waffle, and my friend got an egg breakfast with home fries- we both enjoyed our food. Coffee was pretty good too! We'll definitely come back. read more

After going down the road to Story Book Land with the kids, we needed to eat and this diner was open the latest of any diner in the neighborhood (it closes at 10pm and everything else closes at 9). We started off with soups - minestrone (5.25 with Entree) and French Onion ($8 with entree). Both were great! Then, we told the waiter we were sharing a chicken gyro. The kitchen was so classy and wonderful to wrap each half put half the sandwich and half the fries on two separate plates. So classy. They also have breakfast, deli sandwiches and entrees. They have salad combos that come with a soda and dessert which looked great but it was late so we didn't have dessert or coffee. The dark haired server (maybe his name was Adam?) was very professional! The food came out super fast but the fries were well done upon request and everything was perfect. Six star service by Abby, five star menu and three star food made for an awesome experience. Let me start with the menu, if you can't find what you like here you won't find it anywhere. Jersey diners have an ability to offer menus that have unlimited options. and this diner delivers! And even customizes. We had a small family gathering and were in a bit of a rush to catch our flight back to Florida. Abby did what it took to get our orders in and made some very welcome suggestions. She stayed on top of our meals to make sure we got them with plenty of time to enjoy. And enjoy them we did. Couple of pointers, the portions are huge! Next they have one heck of a nice little bar tucked away in a room off the dining room. We have family buried right nearby so from time to time we visit them at the local cemetery. I ordered London broil au jus medium rare.....never got the au jus and the london broil was well done...baked potato was cold. A member of our party had fried chicken that was over cooked. I like coming to the shore diner upon heading to or from the Jersey shore. It feels familiar and the staff treats you like family. As far as diners go, this one is about average. Far from being the best but holds its own. In quintessential fashion, the menu is huge so good for accompanying a big group of various tastes. I suggest sticking to the breakfast staples and/or sandwiches for safest options. The omelette platters are huge and are priced fairly. The Belgian waffles always hit the spot and the pancake platters are always stacked high. And while I'd usually suggest steering clear of seafood in a diner, I do recommend the crab cake sandwich. Is the food spectacularly memorable? No. It's satisfactory and filling. There's no signature plate here that screams RETURN! Not even the pies and cakes stick out as excellent. But they are good and should satisfy a sweet tooth. This is typically a stop of convenience as opposed to a sought after meal. But all good. A call was made in advance by my mother in law to book for a group. The manager agreed to being able to accommodate our group. We had just come from a small church wedding and were coming together to eat and finalize our celebration. After we arrived, the manager said that everyone had to sit on one side of the room. The manager also said she was short a waitress. The room was small. That was weird Then she said that we had to put everyone's bill and payment under one card. There were approximately 25 of us. We proposed sitting out in the main restaurant. The manager said that it would be a long wait before everyone could be seated. I could go on for at least 3 more paragraphs on how dirty, unprofessional, and unfriendly this place was. Several of my mother in law's family & friends frequently visit this diner for many years. Insulted, embarrassed and disrespected is how we were all made to feel. As a consumer, begging someone to render service for a fee is unacceptable. We decided to take our consumer power to their competitor Applebees. Applebees was happy to obtain our business but also to earn our business in a professional manner. I was at this Diner at the end of a work day and all I needed was a hot chicken soup, they didn't have it that night, but Hannah was so kind, patient, sweet in helping me in any way she could. She explained all the other soups in detail, took care of my allergies by going to the kitchen to make sure. She even showed me a picture from her phone of a soup that I didn't know, looked like what I wanted. Visited again this past Saturday and...OUTSTANDING!!!!! Stephanie was most helpful with questions, going so far as to point out certain items on the menu. My wife ordered the fried flounder. She said it was the best she's had (next to when I make it :) ) and would definitely order it again. I had the open faced turkey and it was fantastic! The turkey was moist and Stephanie gave me ample cranberry when I asked for extra. Will definitely go there again when we visit Atlantic City, Ocean City, or Smithville! read more
