Calculated Confections - Cannoli cake cup & chocolate almond strawberry bar

Calculated Confections

I came in to try this tucked away treasure I drive by often. I got a cannoli cream cake cup and a…read morechocolate almond strawberry bar. The cup has very moist cake, not dried out, cannoli filling was very creamy and pretty generously layered at least four times in the cup. The bar was very light and sweet, never had a chocolate bar that was not heavy, wish there was a bit more of strawberry filling, that was perfect, also loved the chopped almonds on top. Would like to stop on again when they have more selections

New local bakery alert!…read more In town visiting the parents and they mention a craving for something sweet. I decided to do a quick search to see if options have improved since a lot of the shops around here are only open 3-4/week. Calculated Confections popped up as being recently opened. The interior is clean with a small seating area. The owner came out to greet me and shared that she was working in the finance industry for 20 years before deciding to branch out and start her own business, hence the name Calculated Confections. Every day she posts a math problem on the blackboard and awards a baked goodie to the first few customers who can solve the equation. She had a nice selection of brownies with or without nuts, g-free and egg free chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal cookies, scones, rolls, cupcakes, cheesecakes, cannolis, and cake slices. My parents split the chocolate cake while I had the red velvet cupcake and a chocolate chip cookie that I won from solving the math problem. They liked how the cake wasn't too sweet and was moist. The cookie was very good and the icing on the red velvet was good but the actual cupcake was missing something - it was still good, just lacking that classic red velvet flavor. I highly recommend this place. It's right on 52 and just a short walk to the rail trail entrance. I'll definitely be back to try the cafe menu.

I can't say enough great things about Bossi's Bakery! From start to finish, the experience was…read moreamazing. Bossi is incredibly personable, kind, and truly passionate about what she does. You can tell she genuinely cares about making each order special. I actually came to her with only a week's notice hoping to get a custom cake made for a retirement celebration. Not only did she say yes, but she absolutely delivered beyond expectations. The cake looked incredible, beautifully designed and clearly made with so much care and talent. And the taste? Even better. Every bite was delicious! It was fresh, flavorful, and a huge hit with everyone at the party. People kept asking where the cake was from. If you're looking for someone who is talented, accommodating, and a joy to work with, I highly recommend Bossi's Bakery. Amazing customer service, stunning work, and truly yummy treats. I'll definitely be ordering again!

However the customer service could DEFINITELY improve I walked in, spent a decent amount of money and the entire time I felt out of place. I asked very nicely if they had a specific food and the woman responded as if I was bothering her. When I continued to order she continued to look annoyed. I didn't like the experience, environment, or vibe. I came to try a local business I've always wanted to support and it was my last time visiting. Sorry for bothering with my food order.

We discovered Wright's Farm by accident, our hotel concierge recommended we stop by the local farm…read morestand. Once we pull in, from the outside it seems like a typical farm stand. Walking inside, it's a different experience at Wright's Farm. This visit, I want to buy a bottle of local wine and some local cheese then go back to the hotel. I see there is a very nice selection of Hudson Valley and regional wines. I also buy a nice local, spreadable cheese along with some crackers. I noticed towards the back, I see a wall of homemade jams. And they're all packaged in these cute mason jars! Strawberry Jelly is a must but then we went a little nutzo with a few more jam flavors as well as homemade apple sauces, fresh cheeses and pickles! Sunday, its check out time and we're heading back to Long Island after breakfast. My wife said we need to go shopping for dinner today. I said, Let's go back to Wright's Farm and pick up dinner? And this was the highlight of our trip. In the cold cases, I see homemade ravioli, one of the stuffings was corn? I had plans to stop in The Bronx and get a few boxes of Raviolis. I gambled and said lets try their corn ravioli. O.M.G. This ravioli was fantastic! My wife made it with fresh sage from our herb garden. It was a little pricey but it was better than anything I had this year. For the week, we bought a large ham steak and a ham hock for pea soup. I saw something interesting, a black futsu squash? I told my wife, lets buy one and take a chance. Amazing! My wife cooked this squash and it came out deelish. Dessert? My sons inhaled the apple cider doughnuts we bought home for them. Wright's Farm, it was a pleasant surprise to discover your local farmstand.

Add on the fact they have several Hip-Camp spots for camping overnight, and a very large field for Harvest Host members to park overnight makes this one of our top destinations this time of year. Being only about 2 1/2 hours drive from Long Island it is well worth the pilgrimage to this incredible family run farm!
