I'd already had simple/subtle/conservative glasses and moderately stylish glasses, and decided I wanted to treat myself to something more over the top. I started at the chain stores, ended up on some websites, found a few that I liked (and bought), none that I loved. At that point, Groupon read my mind (or search history) and started showing me ads for glasses. I ignored most of them, but the ad for SEE kept coming up, so eventually I clicked and took a look at their website. I noted their business model-- they only make a very small number of each custom design, so you're unlikely to EVER run into someone with the same frames. There was one frame in particular I really liked on the website, but even with the Groupon it seemed expensive, and I didnt need any more glasses. I went back to the website the next day to show my wife, and it was gone. I called the store and they said they only had one left in the entire world. I said, I'm coming town to check it out. At the store they have a much wider selection of frames than the website, and a few caught my eye, but my favorite was still the the one from the website. Shawn, the manager, was incredibly helpful and possibly the most knowledgeable person I've encountered when it comes to eyewear. His style of customer service is more terse than some-- "Those dont look good on you" "You cant use that discount code" instead of hemming and hawing or lying. I initially found it slightly offputting, then almost immediately came to appreciate it. He also was able to tell very very quickly what I liked and how to sell me on what would actually be in my best interest to buy, as opposed to just making a sale. Using the Groupon, I was able to get the frames and lenses for less than most other high end eyewear shops, and about double the cheap places. My glasses were ready in about a week and I very much appreciated that Shawn texted me rather than calling. When I went to pick them up, Tyrone was also working, and he also seemed very knowledgeable and helpful (insert Erykah Badu joke here.) I wish I'd thought to use my vision insurance here, as my dollars would go further. As it stands, when my insurance allows for a new pair, I will probably start here. If I dont particularly like anything immediately, I have faith Shawn will be able to pick out something perfect. Bottom line, if you want something high fashion, quality, expensive but not overpriced, this is the place to go.

I left my sunglasses @ home and for having brown eyes, it's totally sensitive to bright light... which, from what I understand, is a bit strange. Anyway, I call the Johnson Creek store where I purchased my frames from and spoke with Kyle (I believe) from the Johnson Creek store and he was so nice and helpful. He told me the regional manager said I would be able to exchange my glasses for new ones and even called the Madison location to see if they had the same pair because Johnson Creek was a hike for me. It is rare to find a worker eager to fix sunglasses. He found that one of the small screws on the sunglasses was not only loose, but rusted. He was able to find a new screw and fix the sunglasses in less than 20 minutes. So, thank you Dillon for making my sunglasses as good as new!

Today I was "helped" by Brett. I was trying to return a hoodie that didn't fit. Everything was pretty procedural at first. Then the hiccup came where the was an issue with the return because he had thought we heavily used the hoodie, which we didn't. The only thing we did was put it on inside the house and set it down on the carpet afterwards. He was lecturing me on the fact that he cannot accept the return due to this cosmetic flaw. I informed him this, to which he replied that he can't resell something that's been worn in the store. I told him that we had been long patrons of the band and how we owned dozens of Oakley sunglasses and never had an issue with returning a product that we tried on and did not like. He finally gave in by saying that I had interrupted him as he was not able to compete his lecture that he be making an exception in this case. At the end I feel that he was over compensating for his lack of knowledge and general awareness of customer service by saving face and acting as if he was planning to let me return the merchandise after all. Next time, I'll stick to shipping my returns back instead of being hassled by a self-righteous, myopic store clerk.

This is more of a review of Marmot than of Fontana Sports. I bought my first Marmot down jacket…read morehere, and it lasted almost twenty years before the zipper broke. It kept me so warm and toasty in the brutal upper Midwest winters. I discovered the Marmot brand here in the 1990s. Back in the 1990s, Patagonia was not considered as "technical" and as bougie as Marmot and The North Face. Arcteryx either didn't exist or was an obscure brand almost thirty years ago. Now, Patagonia and Arcteryx are off-the-charts insanely priced. Marmot and The North Face are considered "value" brands. In any case, I still buy Marmot; it's better quality and far better value than Patagonia because: 1. Higher down fill power and 2. Higher down fill weight I recently bought a 700-fill down parka from Marmot with 220 grams of down for far less money than a 600-fill down parka with 150 grams of down from Patagonia. I was cold in the Patagonia parka, and it was horribly expensive. I had to return. I also bought coats from Eddie Bauer and from L.L. Bean. Nowhere nearly as warm as Marmot. The Marmot down parka that I recently bought is called the Montreaux Coat, and I've yet to find a warmer coat at such a great price point. It hits my knee, although it's supposed to hit my calf, so that's a bit misleading on their website. It's closer to parka length than coat length. I like that when the zipper broke after almost twenty years of owning my first Marmot down jacket, I called Marmot's Customer Service, they sent me a shipping label, and they said that they would gladly repair the zipper for me, for free. When they couldn't repair the zipper, they just sent me a new Marmot down jacket. So, I wore that complimentary replacement jacket for another ten years before finally buying the Montreaux coat this year almost thirty years after buying my first Marmot down jacket from Fontana Sports.

We set up an appointment on Wednesday 5/18/22 for me to come in at 11:30a. I received an email saying that he was excited to meet me and sent me a link to look at before hand. I showed up a few minutes early and was greeted by staff. I told them I was looking for Jay and had a meeting with him. They said that I could take a business card and that he had not been in all day and was not sure where he was. The staff was very friendly and was clearly embarrassed by the lack of communication on the business' end. I told him I would wait about 10 minutes and see if Jay showed up. I was super excited to look at options and even took off of work to come in. After 10 minutes, I was extremely frustrated. I looked at our email communication and sent an "I am here for our appointment" message. No response at all. I even called the number listed on the email address to see if I could get ahold of him. The number listed was the store number that I was already standing in. The sales person apologized and was very sincere. I walked around for awhile looking at apparel in the store but was very upset with being stood up for our meeting. It has been over a week and still no response. I was really hoping to use this location to screen print as I have heard great things from friends and family. I find it incredible unprofessional that no one has even reached out to apologize, let alone acknowledge that they missed our agreed time to meet.
