I have taken 3 classes with this clown Edmund Tan and I will not be going back. I will start off by saying before taking these courses, I never handled a firearm. To be quiet honest, I had no one to teach me. As soon I saved up enough money (and was old enough), I took the NRA basics course, the Home Protection Course as well as the "Sunday Shoot".I took these classes within the span of a couple years and went back to the range on my own whenever I could afford rounds/had the extra time etc. I have always wanted to learn how to shoot but I also wanted to make sure I was doing it properly with correct technique and most importantly, safely. I was not impressed with how Edmund taught the first class I took however, this range is VERY close to my residence (within walking distance) therefore, I continued taking classes. Edmund can get extremely annoying. Uses the same jokes all the time and a lot of the time the environment can get awkward because no one laughs. He is knowledgeable about firearms however, he has never been a combat shooter i.e. military or law enforcement. In my opinion, most people don't take these courses in order to compete in shooting competitions. He has no experience in a combat situation. I am extremely skeptical about his "bodyguard" experience. He is also extremely arrogant and that is very annoying. He will continue on about how fast he reloads and how many competitions he has been in etc etc. "One day we can all be like him if we practice enough".....Lol come on man. There's no need for an instructor to show off. I am now 25 years old and have taken many classes in my lifetime (for different sports, academic etc etc etc. There is never a need for people to deliberately show off in front of students over and over again. His "Batman" stories take up a lot of time and is completely useless. In 2 of the courses I have taken, he had another instructor (Mr. Hobbs) in the room who had retired from the LA Port Police. Let's just say LA Port Police is not Inglewood PD or Detriot, Memphis etc etc where the crime rate is sky high. Nevertheless he was not as useless because he had a general understanding of how the law works etc. even though he looked like the stereo typical police officer i.e. big belly, donut eating, lawn mowing, caucasian. A Hank Hill type. To me, Edmund looks and acts like Khan Soupanoosanphone from King of the Hill as well. Basically I have since taken a couple security officer courses both armed and unarmed from Guard Training Center in Los Angeles,CA. They have a solid instructor there who also teaches NRA classes, home protection, etc. Much better instructor who doesn't use a freaking music stand as his podium LOL. Also another place to learn about firearms is American Defense Enterprises at the LAX shooting range. The reason I am writing this review is really because I was completely unsatisfied with the teaching method from Edmund Tan and would like to see other prospective students go elsewhere. Why give your hard earned money to someone who doesn't teach above average? As a sidenote I have told Edmund these things face to face at the "debriefing" at the end of his classes. It appeared as though he wet his pants. read more
