Took the CCW renewal course today. There were 15 participants in the course. The range location in Sylmar was ideal as we had a large private bay for the whole day. The session was very well organized and Edmund brought all of the props for the various scenarios that were programmed. Edmund, his family, and his team were all 5- instructors. I can't say enough positive things about all of the instructors - everyone brought a great attitude. Every participant received personalized feedback during every scenario. Special shoutout to Edmund and his large bag of extra holsters and mag holders. He even had a 3d printed part that he wanted me to try out. My boyfriend and I have been wanting to take a gun class for a while so we came across Shoot Safe Learning. We took the basic pistol firearm safety course as I had no experience with firearms. He purchased our tickets 2 months prior to our class as they are limiting the size of classes due to Covid. Our instructor Edmund and his team taught an amazing class and were absolutely hilarious and are very knowledgeable. We began with classroom training where we got to learn about the basic rules of gun safety, ammo and handling. We then proceeded to an area where we got to hold a variety of different guns. They taught us how to hold, load and unload the different guns. They provided us with protective ear and eyewear then walked us over to the shooting range. We got to load our own magazines and they provided us with a few targets. We then got to shoot 50 rounds and even had a competition to see who could get the best score. After we finished shooting, we went back to the classroom to learn more about the laws specifically in California. I decided to take my firearms safety certification test and passed. I was also intimidated going into a class of 21 where I was the only woman. However, Edmond (and his wife) and team made the experience life changing. Took this 8 hour CCW class from Edmund, Murad, Judge and Rose. Top notch instruction. This is really good quality for the price. Great instructors and instruction all around. Edmund is funny and Judge kept on me to remind me of the little things I was doing. They really emphasize safety and a good environment for everyone in the class. I saw literally the worst shooter in the class and in the end having the best timed shooting than the whole class. I took an 8 hour class with 18 other students and it was amazing. Everyone is from all walks of life. Bring what you're told to bring. They are very serious about making sure everyone participates and is learning the proper way to shoot and improve their accuracy. Every step is explained and explained again , with at least 1 instructor for every 2-3 students. And they don't just stand there; they're moving around and correcting bad form and explaining how to improve. The activities were interesting and kept moving, breaks to get water and reload were often enough. You should have at least 3 8-10 round magazines when taking a class like this, and reload during instruction. This was the first time I've shot at a plastic target that looked like a person. It gives you more perspective. We had 2 shooting breaks for instruction and the rest was shooting. The location was in Sylmar and I'm just glad we had June gloom until 4:00 when the sun came out. They are constantly checking in to make sure you're understanding the lesson and the point of the lesson. I'll definitely be taking more classes. read more

My best friend and I decided to take this class together. Years ago we were involved in a shooter threat scare at work; fortunately nothing came of it. It got me thinking I should learn how to handle a gun. She invited me to take the class and I jumped at the opportunity. I felt more comfortable having her there because imagined myself as a solitary woman, taking a gun safety class, in a room full of brash men with big egos... it would be VERY uncomfortable. How incredibly ignorant I was. I have NEVER in my life been around a group of men more warm, inviting, humble, supportive and loving in my life. My opinions on gun enthusiast was shattered that day. Instructor Edmund was a dream! He was funny but also very thorough. He stressed safety and made the whole experience a whole lot of fun. I laughed every 15 minutes I think. Junior instructor Patrick was young. I did not assume his age would make him any less of an instructor and I'm glad I didn't! He added to what Instructor Edmund taught us and was awesome at helping me fine tune my target practice. He truly is a pro. The other men were volunteers, which blew my mind. They would volunteer 6 hours of their Saturday to help a bunch of noobs? Amazing! Judge Leo, Jim, and Gio were an absolute delight. They backed up the instruction with real life experience. I believe all people should take a gun Safety Class and learn how to shoot a pistol. By actually going through the experience, you can understand the power of a gun and how to respect that power. It also debunks what the media says about guns being inherently dangerous. After hearing the instructors' and volunteers' perspectives with an open heart and going through the class, I feel more confident and safe. I also feel that the person has the power. I did a 3 hour CCW renewal class with them. I didn't realize I was attending a second day of the 2 day training. I spent the few hours at the range with them. They provided decent instruction on gun holding and safety. However, they fancy themselves some kind of "drill sergeant" people. It consisted of a lot of screaming directions and tearing you like a new recruit. I had an instructor, "the lawyer", he was really full of himself and talked down to me. I didn't appreciate that at all. I am not a military person and I didn't sign up to be yelled at. Further, they do these wild "tactical" shooting poses, i.e. lay on your back shoot between your knees, that I found ridiculous. I'm not getting into a tactical gun fight with anyone. If you're into the tactical stuff and do t mind the drill sergeant approach, I think you're gonna love this class. If you're looking for more instructional type training, this may not be for you. By the way, the lawyer guy, he likes to strut around like he knows everything about every gun, he does not. He knows his gun, as he should, but had no idea about mine and how it operated. In a section of the class they intentionally jam the gun, he jammed mine so bad he needed two other instructors to get it cleared. I am not comfortable handing my gun to a complete stranger that knows nothing about my gun to intentionally jam It. read more

A valuable four hour class that teaches gun safety and basics. Edmund, our instructor, packed a lot of information into the session. This was my second, the last one was several years ago at a different place. This was a great refresher and I still learned quite a bit. The class is interactive and there are an additional 5 instructors that contributed information. Each had their own special background and training. The class was fun as well as informative. I took notes in my 24 page booklet on Basic Pistol handgun safety, operation and ownership. If you are new to shooting and are curious, this class is a definite prerequisite to gain knowledge and confidence. If you have some experience, it's a great refresher. I definitely learned quite a bit. At the end portion of class the instructors coach you on the range about posture, aim, technique. The lady in our class who scored the best was a first time shooter! Note: bring snacks and water, there are no breaks. Show up early, have a meal in you, and be respectful of the time and pace of the class. I wanted to take a moment to give my input about this outfit. I have been in law enforcement since 1883 and I've been a firearm instructor since the early 90's. With the current state of the nation, crime is increasing drastically and dramatically. These facts gave me a greater sense of urgency to make sure my wife and teenaged daughter were properly trained. But, although I'm more than qualified, I felt it would be far more effective to have them train somewhere else first. I attended a class with Shoot Safe. Edmund Tan taught the class. He is also the owner of the business. I was impressed at his style and with his knowledge. His co-instructors were also top-notch! I had both my wife and daughter take his course. Even though I had done some preliminary training with my wife and daughter, Edmund was able to diagnose and correct my daughter's shooting to the point where she was CONSISTENTLY hitting center mass! I come from a family of tactical shooters.. pretty much everyone goes to the ranges, except for myself & a sister. I have always been the laziest shooter in the family & never really had the urge to learn anything about firearms until recently. Several months ago I attended the Basic Pistol course. I found it so interesting. Edmund & the volunteers are so knowledgeable & motivating. The style of teaching is fun & serious at the same time. As enjoyable as the course was, safety was always emphasized. I learned safety rules, the parts of a firearm, how to unload a firearm & so much more. I borrowed Edmund's Glock 19 for the range. I fired off my first magazine & we discussed chanes i needed to make. After all of that, I took my safety test, passed and went shopping. Shortly after that I took Pistol Skill Builder. This time I brought my own firearm so i could get to know it a little more.. i can now easily take apart & reassemble my Glock. During range time i had some improvement from my last class, which is always a good thing. This review was long overdue, but better late than never. Would I recommend Edmund's school to people?
