The waitress was nice but the ONLY decent food there was the macncheese and the rolls(which were cold). Sweet tea is nasty and the fountain drinks flat. We saw a litter pooper scooper on the floor behind the counter. The soup was a mystery and the baked apples were soggy. Kitchen staff was rude and disrespectful. Plates were dirty (on the clean rack but watched another guest set them aside due to them being covered in old crusted food). Chicken was bloody and over cooked. No labels on anything. My family and I are on our way to Alabama and stopped in here earlier this evening for dinner. Everyone except for my kids and I got the buffet which was probably a mistake. I ordered the Slim Jim, my son got mac n cheese and my daughter got mini cheeseburgers which took so long to get that my wife and parents that got the buffet were already finishing up with their meals by the time my kids and I got ours?!?! Why would that take so long?!?! That is the main reason I can only give them two stars because it shouldn't take that long to get meals cooked and out to customers. And the men's restroom was filthy, stunk like pee and whatever else and needed cleaned badly. Have not been to a shoney's in yeaaaarrrs. But it was across from our hotel we had gotten for the nite. It was clean, restrooms looked nice to. Not to much was on the buffet, they had 2 hours til it was closed. After waiting we got some fresh Fried Chicken and some AMAZING Fried pork chops. THE server was very friendly too read more

I came on here to tell the staff what a great job they're doing. The staff, NOT the cranky manager lady who yelled at them for no reason before proceeded to her car for a cigarette while they did all the work. I came in and was immediately greeted by two friendly staff. I asked if they did to-go orders, they handed me a menu and told me to let them know when I was ready. I took a moment, then stood up and went to the counter. No sooner did I stand up did the cranky manager lady come out of nowhere and bark, "are you being helped?!" I told her that I had been helped and that it was all gravy, that I was given a menu to decide on a to-go order. "Well," she barked again, "do you know what you want?" I told her that I had JUST now decided, yes. She turned to the two friendly staff who had helped me and yelled at them to "take this gentleman's order, now!" I didn't care for her tone and even felt the need to apologize to the staff for getting them in trouble while their noble boss soaked her lungs with tar. They smiled it all off and assured me it was okay. I hope that if sales are ever down the owner reads this review, because it is not the fault of your hourly employees but rather the fault of poor management tactics. Ordered the Cobb salad which looked nothing like the picture in their menu and nothing like any Cobb salad I have ever seen. In fact, it looked like no salad I have ever seen. The ingredients were included but were in the bottom of the bowl. Requested Bleu Cheese dressing and received a side of tartar sauce. Whether these issues were due to incompetence or indifference on the part of staff/management makes no difference. My recommendation is to avoid this restaurant. read more

My daughter & I came and ate here. We were meeting friends. Otherwise I don't think I would have chosen this restaurant. The service was good. I asked for a lemonade. They brought me what looked like dirty water. I think dirty water would have tasted better. When I asked for a Diet Coke instead, because it was nasty. My waitress brought it, no problem. But the manager brought me another lemonade. She said she only comes out if there was a problem. I never tried the new lemonade. But manager made a comment about me saying the lemonade was gross to another patron. We both ordered a salad. She ordered a chicken Cesar salad. ( how can you mess that up, well let me tell you ) had the wrong cheese and a Dijon mustard dressing. I ordered a Cobb salad. They put cream corn on it. (Warm cream corn) tomatoes, cheese & bacon. That's it. And the lettuce tasted odd. I ended up only eating the pile of cheese & bacon. I would say try any other restaurant in the area and you'll have a better experience. read more

Had lunch with family yesterday. They do not have Shoney's in lower Michigan, the family loved the food and especially the Kentucky hospitality. The service was good and the buffet food was fresh. There are reasons why I don't frequent chains. Most chain restaurants go either one of 2 ways, they are either consistently OK, or they vacillate from being poor to good dependent on who happens to be working the shift. Chain restaurants suffer from their own nature, and become simply a place of work, and employees lack a certain amount of ownership to their corporate identity. It's a shame really. So, when I review a Shoney's, know that it's because my experience was either less than OK or it was so far above par that it deserved mention. Or maybe because I'm simply trying to get to 100 reviews this year. On a return drive to Louisville from Bowling Green, and with nary a mention on Yelp of other, more down home hotspots, I decided to stop at this Shoney's not far off I-65, knowing that a breakfast buffet would at least satisfy the boys' appetites. And this seems to be where I continue to err, because anything that involves a buffet should make me cringe. The eggs were overcooked, the gravy bland and everything else was pretty basic. The waitress was friendly enough and the boys were satisfied, but what occurred every 5 minutes down the road after we left was as unpleasant a trip back to Louisville as I've had. Thank goodness that there seems to be exits every 5 minutes or so between Elizabethtown and Louisville. To these establishments, I give at least 4 stars (except one, where the service attendant was a bit rude.) read more

I used to love eating at Shoney's as a kid and this place has ruined that memory. I ordered a burger and then watched a 10 yr old kid wander around the buffet with a snotty Kleenex held up to his face while touching every food option on the buffet. Then I watched a customer get up and walk into the kitchen and walk out with some food (hopefully his). Good for people watching but not for eating. Btw - my burger was hardly edible. The filthy forks which other people mention are true, yuck!!! I went to the restroom and washed it myself. I should have walked out when I was given filthy utensils. I just drove 700 miles and I was pooooped. The food is OK, the staff is nice enough. The seafood is breaded in GMO corn bread crumbs, which I am allergic to and made me choke. I got charged 12.99 for a tablespoon of mashed potatoes from a box, 3 leaves of boiled cabbage, very skimpy on vegetables and 4 pieces of tiny shrimp and 2 pieces of shriveled fish which they claim is swai, but is obviously tilapia. I am a pescatarian and I know my fish, Swai does NOT roll up like that when it fries, it is also thicker than tilapia, you can't lie to people. They had a guy dishing out the food, and for a buffet he really rips people off. I had to literally beg for an extra piece of shrivelled up fish. I wouldn't waste my money there again. I have eaten in some real back alley dives because I love small mom and pop places and helping small businesses, I have eaten in some great Greek diners, that were better than a 5 start restaurants, some of the places you least expect to be any good have the most amazing food, this place... is not worth it. Probably one of the worst meals we have had in a restaurant ever. Tried both of the soups, they were thick and flavorless. Mac and cheese tasted like it had been sitting out for weeks. Fried chicken was dry inside and out. Buffet food items need to be changed out and stirred more frequently. Another customer came up and complained about the food while we were there. My Dad order a burger and onion rings. The bun was rock hard it was so stale. The onions inside the rings tasted like they had been swimming in grease for days. I haven't been to a Shoney's in years but we had a group of 8 including 2 small children and it was Friday night so we gave it a try. I should have known how it would end up when there was only 10 cars in the parking lot. I am giving them two stars only because the staff was super friendly and it was very clean. Our waitress went out of her way to talk to the small children and she quickly removed plates and filled drinks. The food however was not good. Bland like most buffets , of course, which I expected. Our whole group got the buffet and no one was excited about anything they had.Many food items were cold or barely warm. Some items had very old mixed with new (mashed potatoes, gravy etc) , so that there were old crusty chunks. Fried items were either very greasy or very dried out. I could go on but I will keep this short. The best part of my meal was the salad bar. Don't go here for the buffet it's all bad. Maybe the menu items are good , we didn't try any. read more

My in-laws were in town and treated us to their breakfast buffet, since they like the one where they come from. The food tasted okay, but the selection was disappointing. Price was $7.99 for the food, a bit less than 2 bucks for coffee. Service was friendly, but I will never go back again as it was just meh. read more

I have never been so disgusted in my life. My family was treated horribly at this location tonight. After driving 5 hours to a post operation appointment and then waiting over 2 hours to see my doctor, I just wanted to sit down and eat a nice meal. My daughter ordered 1/2 dozen (that would be 6 for the server who obviously didn't know the difference) chicken wings. My other daughter had a philly steak, which she said was okay. My husband and I had the VERY overpriced buffet, which was nothing to write home about. So she brings my daughters meals out, after another server had to bring us refills on drinks btw. There were a dozen chicken wings on my daughters plate. I notified the server that we ordered 1/2 dozen. She was very rude and said well you said a dozen. NO I DID NOT. So she goes to her manager and comes back and tells me well the only way we will take off the cost of a dozen and only charge you for 6 is if she only eats 6 and flag me down so I can take the rest back to the kitchen. First off, I am a server in a chain restaurant and I have never heard of such a thing. 2nd off, so basically she was saying we lied and was making sure that my daughter only got the six and they were going to throw out the other six. Yeah not impressed at all. I will be calling their corporate headquarters in the morning. You do not ever make the customer feel like that if you want to keep your job. Or maybe that is how this restaurant works? We will never return that is for sure! read more
