I always receive get service here (from a particular sushi chef) and the sushi is always great quality. I decided to take my boyfriend here for his first omakase experience. At the end of our dinner, he was fully satisfied and enjoyed the service and food. I always request a particular sushi chef - Peter - because he delivers excellent service and is knowledgeable about the sushi he is serving. Every other time I come here and and seated with a different, service isn't so great. As I mentioned I've been here plenty of times, so Peter was very helpful when serving my boyfriend. Explaining the fish, what's in/on it, the origin of where is came from. I come here because you can taste the quality in the fish. I definitely recommend this place for omakase it even to try their sushi rolls (which I still need to try lol).

    Premium Omakase- Blue Fin

We stopped by Shokunin which is located inside City Market food hall to try out their omakase. They have 2 different omakase choices, 10pc Basic omakase at $70 and 13pc Premium omakase at $85. We all went with the Premium omakase. Personally I thought It was just average and little disappointing for one piece of fish that they actually served and its part of the Premium omakase. Here are a few highlights. Blue Fin Tuna, Chutoro Toro, Sea Bream Nigiri and the blue crab HR to end the meal. The rest I wouldn't call it premium sushi. Salmon Belly Yellowtail Belly Albacore with Chili Oil Hotate Carpaccio Halibut Unagi Kanpachi Engawa ( Halibut Fin) which was served sashimi still and overly sauce. Would have been better as a nigiri. Escolar -This was the worst one. I have never seen Escolar served in any omakase until now. Here they call it ono, it's very misleading if you don't know you fish. Other would call it white tuna. It's one of the cheapest, flavorless fish and they serve this in their Premium omakase. There's noting premium about this fish and it should be in any omakase. No - Uni, Ikura, Toro or any of the Mackerel family in the Premium Omakase. Either one of these or mackerel would have been better than the Escolar. There fish to rice ratio was fine. The rice was Inconsistent, little mushy at times and needed more seasoning. Served was fantastic and friendly. All do considered for the area it's at you're not going to find another decent omakase place around for miles.

    $40 for A poke bowl...
    James N.

They charged me $40 for this basically a poke bowl... they advertised it completely differently. Looks completely different from picture. I ordered this before few times and it was actually decent. In a box with marinated and non. It depends on who the sushi guy is. They basically cut up left over parts and threw it in here. Seriously no joke. $40 for this poke bowl. Crap...

I have been coming to this place since it opened pretty much and finally doing a review. Tucked inside the Haven City Market this is a gem of fresh fish, great service and tasty delights. Perfect beer selection, soju and sake as well as perfectly described omakase! The seating is small but enough for about 20, music from the surrounding areas and the chefs are friendly. The two sisters make the experience even better with being attentive and lively. Premium Omakase is the way to go, these dishes were my highlight outside of the spicy tuna hand roll, the oyster was delightful and the curated rice dish was amazing.

Shokunin is a hiddin gem. My bf was recommended by a friend so we came here to eat. We both got the 13 course omakase. Everything was so well prepared. The fish was so fresh and the flavors were immaculate. Each nigiri had it's own special taste to it. The fish melts in your mouth and leaves you wanting more. The chef was so sweet too and explained the things that we were eating. The only downside of this restaurant was that it's inside of Haven City Market. It was so loud so the experience didn't feel like a true omakase experience. Thank goodness, they put us towards the back side so we can still eat and have a converation. Besides that, everything was so good. :)

    5 piece hand roll
    Ruth L.

Ordered the 5 piece chefs choice hand rolls. I can't believe someone had the audacity to actually put this together and not be embarrassed .... 1 hand roll was full of just imitation crab meat, 1 was full of only spicy imitation crab meat, and one had ground spicy tuna. I can get better rolls at the grocery store for 1/3 of the cost. Super disappointing to have to pay $33 for this

One of the 13 omakase options

I went here to get the 13 item omakase and it is genuinely the best sushi I have ever had in the IE, which is saying something because I've lived here for 30 years of my life and been eating sushi in this area for 20 of those years. Service was excellent, though I'm glad I set a reservation that morning and didn't have to wait as a result. For the price, the quality and quantity was excellent. This omakase is the type to consist of majority nigiri options, so those of you that are cool without options like soup or beef, this should be on your radar. Another cool thing about this omakase is that they are not strict with always having it the way the chef prepares it like other joints are; they are cool with accommodating preferences such as no wasabi or if you are averse to certain fish. Highly recommend.

I was at Haven City Rancho Cucamonga to pick up dinner for both my daughters. I walked past Shokunin so many times, but never once went inside. I finally took the opportunity to try them out. Dine-in is for a specific dining experience. Take-out is done on the outside of the restaurant front. The young lady who took my order was very pleasant. Please note they are cashless. Well, I ended up getting two sushi rolls, Rainbow Roll and Fiesta Salmon Roll. Both were so very delicious. Sushi rice was soft. Fish was fresh and succulent. Rolls were above average size. Prices are a bit higher than most sushi places. I would return here to try their other rolls like Shokunin Roll and Haven Roll. I may even dine-in just to experience it. Thank you Shokunin!

My family booked a reservation for dinner and they had the seats already reserved at the sushi bar. Cute seating for such a small space. It's a bit rowdy though since it's inside Haven City Market. Phone service in the building is a bit shoddy but you can connect to the WiFi code they provide you at the table so that you can scan the QR code for the menu. We ordered the 13 piece omakase. Fish was fresh and lovely presentation for everything. They do like to put zest or torch on quite a few of their pieces. Not bad for the price of $80 per person.

I came here with my mom for my birthday dinner and we chose to have the omakase dinner that was offered. It was honestly a fun experience especially for the price! The chef was very kind to us and kept a fun conversation with my mom about sushi and his experience as a sushi chef. He also just so happen to know a sushi chef in our area which was cool! The sushi was honestly amazing! The variety of the 13 courses were unique and so so fresh! Every single sushi piece just melted in my mouth and I just wanted to have more! For it being in the Haven City Market, it still felt very intimate and it was very enjoyable. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Wow! What an amazing sushi shop located inside haven city market. We tried two rolls and both were so delicious and fresh! Comes with the traditional soy sauce, wasabi and ginger. Flavors were clean, a refreshing snack that was just right for sharing. Service was welcoming and helpful. Really enjoyed it! Would definitely return. Free parking available in large lot, you can choose to dine inside or there's also community tables, low tops or patio seating.

I don't do reviews usually, but I never knew we we had this really really good high quality sushi place near my house but supposedly this spot has been here for 5 years and I never heard of it? (I think people think because it's in Haven market it's like a mall, but they don't realize in other cities there are high-end even Michelin level restaurants in these high food markets) Or I never seen on yelp? But after I ChatGPT asking for the best sushi place 25 miles or less found out this is five minutes away? Did Omokase style and was amazed that it was an experience I could have thought only possible in OC or LA that's 5 min from my house here in Rancho? Perfect 16 year anniversary date night. Best hidden secret in Rancho Cucamonga and dead on a Saturday night means no long waits!

    Jacob B.

This hidden gem inside a bustling food mall took me by surprise. It offers an authentic, traditional dining method with limited seating (maybe 15 chairs? - reservations recommended). While the front window serves hand rolls and more "American-style" sushi rolls to-go ONLY, the inside seating is dedicated to the personalized omakase experience (chef's choice tasting menu). Having enjoyed several omakase style meals, even in Japan, this spot stands out as one of my favorites. Food (5/5): I chose the Premium 13-course Omakase, which delivered exceptional presentation, complex flavors, and skillful service for just $80 per person. Highlights included bluefin otoro with fresh wasabi, salmon belly with lemon pepper/miso, smoked albacore topped with chili, Japanese scallop, and seared escolar with truffle and garlic chip. Service (5/5): Our omakase dinner was carefully created by John, with a great personality and even greater deliverance with his flavorful craft, we were left extremely satisfied and impressed with this celebratory meal. (Anniversary date night!) Ambiance (5/5): Some people may be confused or frustrated with their restaurant setup/location, but my takeaway was that it really built positively on the experience. A (mostly) private, delicious dinner in this traditionally themed tiny restaurant tucked away in the middle of a bustling food mall keeps the energy high but the atmosphere personable. You just need to understand this style of restaurant and let them handle the rest.

They have a full bar area and two sushi bar areas in the restaurant. They can definitely accommodate a large crowd. They have tvs that highlight games and play music which adds a nice touch to the ambiance. Their bench seating in the front dining definitely needs redone. The vinyl like material is cracking and uncomfortable to sit on. Our waiter was great. He was very tentative and kept asking if we were ready, had questions, or needed anything. The sushi even came out pretty quickly. I ordered the double jeopardy hand roll and absolutely loved it. That peppered salmon and albacore is a game changer from the regular fish. It gives it an extra punch of flavor. The vegetable roll was refreshing and light. A nice bright option from the fish. The nigiri eel, peppered salmon, pepper albacore, and salmon were fresh and I appreciate it being nice size slices of fish to rice ratio. I love that all the rolls come as a hand roll option because it's a little smaller portion. I also tried the Halibut but no my favorite. For a premium fish it tasted slimy and had no flavor. The shrimp boats were not good. They were heavily bartered and fried. It was like biting into grease. I also didn't get shrimp from it, more imitation crab than anything. I don't suggest this item unless you enjoy deep fried. FYI, This place can get pretty crowded on the weekends and evening but definitely worth checking out!

We were welcomed by Emi (Emiliano) at the front and seated immediately. Plenty of parking behind the building. Table seating in the front room and sushi bar in the back. I don't typically appreciate tv screens in restaurants, but this one was playing scenic photos of places in Japan so that was ok. My husband ordered an Echigo beer (his favorite Japanese beer which is not offered everywhere), and I ordered a glass of Plum wine. He then chose the Godzilla roll which was a crunchy roll wrapped in eel and avocado, whereas I chose the Passionflower which was tuna, salmon, yellowtail and crab meat wrapped in cucumber. Emi told me it was one of his favorites. :) My husband enjoyed the Godzilla roll very much--he found flavorful and satisfying. Both the ginger and the wasabi were fresh and delicious. The Passionflower roll was so fresh the fish melted in my mouth, and the crunch of the thinly sliced cucumber was delightful. It was by far the most unique roll I've ever tried, containing neither rice nor nori. I loved it! It paired well with my sweet plum wine and then the complimentary green tea ice cream Emi brought us for dessert! So overall, ambience was 3/5 but food and service was 5/5, I'd love to return and try other rolls! Highly recommend!
