Holy cow!! I'm never eating anywhere else again!! Not only is the atmosphere outstanding but the servers, especially Angel, were so knowledgeable and kind. The actual sushi itself was amazing. Everything was so obviously fresh and made with intention. 10/10 recommend!!!!!

First time here and pleased with the quality of the food. Appetizers started with seaweed, edamame and potstickers! The picture provided was the first course followed by a plate of Special Rolls. The fish was fresh, service was good. My suggestion is the serve the large platter as two boards primarily so we can start to enjoy the food instead of waiting for the big board to be populated considering there was only 3 in the party. The place was busy all night which tells you so something. We did have some of the Kobe beef that was also good although never had it prepared as a slice of meat on rice. The other downside, if you partake, no beer or liquor. In most other states you can BYOB but Utah doesn't allow it! Place is on my top 3 at the moment.

This is an update to a previous review. Shoga has become our go to place. The sushi continues to be the best in the area. We get very few rolls. They always have some interesting fish. They source the best Uni. We almost always sit at the bar. The seats, unlike many places, have nice backs and are comfortable. By interacting with the chefs, we get more interesting food. This last trip, they had pressed sushi. What a treat. Finally, they serve nice miso soup, and it's hot. Everywhere else just seems to be warm. It matters.

This has been my staple sushi restaurant for a few years now. They consistently deliver great quality, it's reasonably priced beautiful and delicious. Every time I order I find myself browsing the menu wondering if I've made the right choice because all the specialty rolls look so good! Our agadashi tofu was fried to perfection and silky smooth. The broth was rich and a tad sweeter than I like but still delicious. The interiors are straight forward - nothing too fancy. They do have the classic mood lighting that you find in most sushi restaurants. The service is very attentive, helpful, and kind. The parking is easy bc they share a large lot with a variety of other businesses. I love this business and they will always have my service as long as the quality keeps up!!

Incredible my group had the tonkatsu, katsu curry and some of the rolls. Everything was great and good portions. Ambience, music and service were all excellent as well would highly recommend!

This is my favorite sushi place, easily the best and highest quality I've ever had! I got the ramen this last time and it was incredible, too. The service is wonderful, they make sure you have everything you need and are very nice. It's a darker, cozier setting, and a full experience if you've not been to a sushi bar. It can be pricey, but the food lives up to it 110%.

Where is there a better sushi restaurant in the Orem/Provo area?? Tell me? You can't, because this is the best! Everything we ordered we loved!! Such great quality, flavor, generous portions, beautifully plated, the sweet waitress, everything was amazing! The appetizers we ordered were; Seaweed squid salad, some of the best I've had! Pot stickers, SO good! Seared tuna appetizer- delicious! Tempura vegetables were great! I can't remember the names of all the 6 rolls we ate, but for sure we got a dragon, rainbow, and mars, all the rolls were amazing!! Our least favorite was the cucumber roll, but honestly you will love whatever you get here!!

The food was delicious and Angel took such great care of us! It was pretty busy when we went but she managed to make us feel like we were her only customers! I was so excited when I saw that they had takoyaki and it did not disappoint! It was nice and crispy on the outside and creamy inside with plenty of fish flakes! Absolutely perfect! The Vegas roll was the best I've had in UT County by far! We will be back again & again!

We ate at Shoga in Orem for lunch on October 18th. Very disappointing servings. I've really never had such small servings of sushi in my past 35 years of sushi eating. Just the day before I had a Rainbow Roll at Love Sushi and it was amazing. I'll provide a comparison photo so you can see I'm not making this up. Today the rice was dry with the smallest pieces of sushi set on top as if they were rationing it out. This does not entice me to come back! I don't get it, don't you want new customers? Don't you want rave reviews of how big your servings are so you get more customers? Not the case with this establishment. The tuna hand roll was pathetic, dry and almost tasteless. Most other sushi restaurants add avocado and a very light sauce but theirs was just plain small, dry, and tasteless. Needless to say I cannot recommend this place! Go to Tsunami in Lehi and you'll get your moneys worth including big portions for about the same price. I will say something good about the place. The server was nice and atmosphere was too but you can't eat atmosphere. If you are not a Connoisseur of Sushi this review may not matter to you. If you're not from California and don't know what good sushi is all about, then you could possibly think this establishment is okay. They may actually have some good dishes. Maybe the sushi chef was having an off day? I just can't recommend this place based on this experience. So far the best places we've found for Fantastic Sushi all of the time is Tsunami in Lehi UT, Dong's in Rexburg ID (really amazing sushi and price), Love Sushi in Moorpark CA and Tawara Restaurant in Ramsey NJ (really, really amazing sushi, portions, atmosphere and 5 star personal service for a price that beats the competition). read more

5 star service. We only waited for our sushi for about 15 minutes, which in my book is not very long, and the waitress proceeded to apologize for the long wait and give us a free order of gyoza. The sushi is far and away the best in the area. I would die for our waitress that served us she was an angel and I wish I would have gotten her name. Please go here! read more

Talk about mixed feelings. So the first time we came here was pretty on a whim and boy did we luck out. It was FANTASTIC! Good service. Good sushi. They had a special going called the 'Van Gogh Roll' at the time which I don't even recall the contents but it was our favorite. The entire meal was great and we were thrilled to discover a good sushi spot in this part of town. Next time we went. We are really tired and very hungry one evening in the area and remember this spot! So excited. We talk it up to a friend we are with, we go in so optimistic and we were met with nothing but disappointment. HORRIBLE service. HORRIBLE food. The fish wasn't fresh, every roll was falling apart in our chopsticks - just horrible. One star. I will say when we talked to the manager they compensated like half of our meal which I personally think is very professional and was a respectable move in this case - they tried to make it right - but still. Not good. So here we are with three stars. First experience: 4-5 stars Second: 1-2 stars If I can get up the courage to go back again I will update my review but for now I say be warned: this place is not consistent. read more

I love this place! The tuna tataki appetizer is sooo good and fresh. Sliced jalapeños and sriracha on it...it's like they know me! Nature roll was also delicious. They even had some cooked food choices cuz the hubs doesn't do raw. Also the waitress and I think the owner or manager were super nice, apologizing for a short wait when we barely noticed. I'm generally wary of upscale decor in moderately priced restaurants. Often it proves to be little more than (if you'll forgive the expression) lipstick on a pig. And frankly, from the moment our server greeted us at the door, I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. I'm pleased to report, it didn't. Shoga manages elegance and efficency while delivering a satisfying lunch at a reasonable price. Try the Gyoza. Very nice. Solid recommend. read more

Years and years of hearing about Shoga and I've finally made it through the doors. I was far beyond impressed. The space is inviting and cozy with a dash of intimate and romantic depending on what day the time of day you come. The string lights just make it nice enough to feel like a fancy meal without going for the fancy prices. Service was attentive and not overbearing. The food wasn't the speediest but it wasn't unbearable. We received good recommendations from our server and I will now trust their judgements when they say they personally like something. We got the croquettes (recommended), some salmon nigiri, and tuna, salmon, and spicy tuna rolls. The croquettes were nicely presented and truly delicious. The rolls were simple but tasted very fresh. The highlight was the salmon nigiri. I am SUPER picky with sushi in Utah because I just don't believe anything tastes fresh, but this salmon was hitting the spot just right. We will definitely return. The prices are a bit higher but decent, comparable to somewhere like Asahi, where you come for better quality sushi and expect to pay the price. read more

I really enjoyed the sushi at Shoga. The rice was well cooked and the fish was fresh--the most important components of a good sushi roll. We ordered a Marz, UB, spicy scallop, negihama, and citrus. They were all very good and thoroughly enjoyable. Shoga is a very nicely decorated restaurant with a very young vibe. The only problems I had with Shoga was that it was super loud and service was very slow. They were really busy that evening and that could explain the problems, but maybe sushi places that get that loud are not for me. read more

Stopping through the area on the way to work, I looked on yelp for a local place to get some Japanese food. I saw the reviews and jumped on in. Really glad I did. It's a small place in a sort of strip mall. Greeted and seated immediately, in a friendly way. I ordered a large sweet sake (hot), some edamame and some gyoza whilst deciding on my rolls. I was going to opt for a hot entree, but when I saw the rolls I changed my mind. The gyoza were great, and were served with a sort of lemon soy dip. Which was really good, so much so I kept dipping my edamame in it. The gyoza themselves were well cooked and stuffed with pork and veg. For the rolls I had the Shoga special roll (which was green onion, hamachi, tuna, crab salad) and the Black Eye (eel, Shishito, Tuna, Black Tobiko). The rolls were delivered quickly, and were just as I expected. Tasty, and exactly the right amount. Really happy, will be back if ever I'm nearby! $45 (minus tip) read more

This is the place. My wife and i come here during daytime and have a nice, kinda romantic lunch. The service is awesome and the sushi is top tier. You wont find any better. We come for dinner in the evenings and its always an atmosphere where we can talk and focus on each other. They don't have traditional booths like alot of places ,but somehow it always feels intimate. unless we sit at the bar and chat with the sushi chefs. read more

I ordered the tempura and beef teriyaki bowl and the portion was HUGE. The beef was very tender and they accommodated my request to slice the meat very thinly. Good taste, but nothing too special. My partner got three sushi rolls and he definitely had enough food to eat. The service was really good and the waitress very friendly, but the food was a little bit bland. read more

My wife and I have been coming to Shoga for the last 6 years. Every year for her birthday. We have never once been disappointed in the atmosphere, the service, or the food. Very single time we've come it has been a wonderful experience. Our favorites are the Vegas roll and the UB roll, with the playboy, dragon, dynamite and salmon crunch close behind. For dessert we recommend the cheesecake. It's always so good and looks amazing. read more

If you're craving great sushi in the Orem/Provo area then you better head to Shoga. We ordered the Vegas roll, the Marz roll, and the Salmon Crunch roll....exquisite flavors,textures, and presentation. This is our go to spot. The water tastes like it came from a hose though. read more

The service was really good. Very friendly staff, and they were good about taking care of all their customers even though it was really busy. The food came out quickly for everyone. Unfortunately the fish they served today was gross. You could taste that it was frozen, defrosted, and sat at room temperature for at least a day. When you come here, I recommend avoiding any dish that involves fish. read more

8/14/15 ate here tonight with my family while here in Utah, didn't know what to expect as far as how good the food was going to be but we are sure glad we came. I was craving sushi so I convinced the the wife and kids to eat here. Everything we ordered was delicious. The shoga steak my wife and daughter ate was really good. My son had the Teri chicken and I had three types of sushi. Food came out timely and our waitress was very attentive. I'm giving them 5 stars!!! read more

Shoga was aaamazing! I would go back in a heartbeat. The Vegas Roll is my fav! I also wanted something a little fresher so I got the Cucumber Roll with cream cheese added in. The first time I went, my waitress' name was Chimgee--she was very nice and had the BEST recommendations. The second time, a pregnant lady was our server and she didn't really do anything but take our order. I think her shift ended before we were even done eating so Chimgee came back to be our server again. She suggested a HEAVENLY & TO DIE FOR dessert "Chocolate Trilogy." It was the perfect size for 2 after stuffing myself on Vegas, California & the Cucumber Rolls. I didn't want to stop eating it. I even had her print me two separate bills so I could give her a tip for the ice cream! The Green Tea Ice Cream was also very tasty. I indulged a little bit, but to me it's worth it. This is hands down the best sushi place in all of Orem or Provo. I've been multiple times to other places and here; and always get let down by other places' quality of Nigiri, undercooked rolls, tiny nigiri, or something! . Shoga always has good nigiri, and great rolls. They aren't trying to be over the top, but they nail the basics and it makes for a better experience. Sushi is my favorite food, I've been to Japan twice, and many restaurants around the US like Nobu in Vegas, and others in LA, Santa Barbara, New York, San Diego, San Francisco, Oregon, and Seattle. This place isn't like a 5 star fancy sushi place, but it's no one is in Orem, and Shogais no doubt the best in Orem/Provo/Utah Valley to get your fix. Shoga is by far the best sushi in Utah county. Enyx and Soko have raised the bar above any other sushi restaurant within 40 Miles.Great atmosphere, upbeat jazz music, and ultimate sushi. My 11 year old son can't live without their Mars role. My wife and I have to have the best appetizer, which is a meal in its self, the Tuna tataki. Enyx will make you anything you ask for. If your diabetic try the natural role, no rice! yay! and if you don't like seaweed paper in your roles they have soy paper for no extra charge I believe. I'm a buddhist.I strongly discredit using the pictures of load Buddha's statute on front page of your menus and at entrance of the restaurant. We don't like to see any pictures the Buddha, the founder of the great religious philosophy of Buddhism to use as marketing, sales purposes or to attract customers. Please urge your restourants managers to take actions to remove the stickers as insulting to Buddhism here.
