We were up for a leisure trip and we always want to try the local restaurants and get a good hot meal while out traveling. Well, we were seated right away and got our tea right away. It was brown water with no flavor. Should have been a red flag. I ordered the crusted trout with sweet potato and salad. They bring out some dry yeast rolls while you wait. Hubs got the Jack Daniels ribeye with baked potato and a salad. We had to wait 40 minutes before we got out food. My potato was inedible. The trout was bland and just warm. Same for hubs potato. It was hard as a rock and his steak was very fatty, greasy and didn't have much flavor. We told our waitress about the potatoes and she said they are cooked to order?? And she would talk to someone about a discount. They discounted the food 15% but it didn't help the fact the food just isn't all that great for the price of this food. We will not go back. read more

Met friends for a dinner out. Walked in and no one was in site- no greeting - so we stood there for several minutes. Finally we walked into the dining room and saw our friends. Then ordered and the salads came out but the soup ordered didn't come out until the meal. Disappointing. Our waitress was attentive and did apologize. The food was tasty- 2 of us had the chicken parmigiana and my husband had the salmon, our friend ordered a hamburger and everyone was satisfied with their choices. read more

Bang Bang shrimp were good, and the garden salad was fresh and plentiful. Lobster bisque was ok, just a bit weak, like it had been watered down. Unfortunately, it took quite some time for our burger and quiche to come out. Our server was very nice and helpful. The fruit with the quiche was canned mandarin oranges (yuck). The quiche was very good, tomato, cheese, garlic and broccoli. The burger was an average burger. Key lime pie, made in house was tangy and very yummy. We came for the all you can eat crab legs, service good, crab legs great especially after living in the mountains for 5 years. You get cravings that Capt D's can't doing anything for... it's 55.00 per person but we took down a ton of legs. Certainly felt like we got our moneys worth and would recommend making reservations. What a homey little place this was! We walked in and we're greeted by a sweet young woman and walked to our booth. Our waiter, Wes, quickly came by to introduce himself and take our drink order. He was amazing and was singlehandedly handling all the tables by himself, with the assistance of his younger brother bringing in orders and or refilling drinks. My husband and I enjoyed a late lunch there last week. Even short staffed, the service was great! I loved the lobster bisque soup. We also enjoyed the bang bang chicken . Shoebooties is a charming little cafe with a great menu. We'll definitely be back to enjoy a dinner soon. I would recommend it to anyone visiting the Murphy, North Carolina area. We were really looking forward to trying ShoeBooties based on the lack of decent eating places in the area, & their menu which looked kind of nice. Since our favorite beertendress @ Valley River Brewery was off for the evening, we thought what the heck, now's the night. First impressions were actually pretty good - eat downstairs with the noisy masses, or go upstairs in the lounge, which we opted for. The beertender was a really sweet young lady & did a fine job of tending to us (other than letting us know how much they planned to rip us off for their very limited & low-end spirits selection). We ordered a couple of cocktails, then an appetizer, then our entrees. Their whiskey selection was was Makers Mark, or Jack Daniels. I'm ok with Makers Mark, but their selection is far below the quality I'm accustomed to in the smallest & remotest of places. The appetizer sounded good from the menu - some kind of fried Cajun Calamari if I remember correctly. What came out was a very small smattering of over fried pieces of what I assume contained Calamari, but could not tell based on taste. I will say if you want some really crispy pieces of breading that may have a piece or two of Calamari you won't taste for $11.00 bucks, go ahead & order it. Entree's were, meh. Mine was Parmesan Pork Chops, my ladies was a Crab Stuffed Salmon. The Pork Chops were tender, but very bland. The best part of my meal was the baked potato. My lady said her Crab Stuffed Salmon was good. I would have rated our experience if we hadn't been presented with a $119.31 bill. FOR 2 PEOPLE!! That they had the gaul to charge $14.75 for a Makers Mark, what I consider a mid level at best whiskey is highway robbery. I have had the very same Makers Mark at multiple airports for the same or less than these yucks charged me, so they were, in my opinion, way out of bounds. Take a look at the attached receipt for 2 people & not for anything wildly expensive. It's $119.21, before tip. Half of it is for cocktails! Add the $22 tip, we are talking $141.21, a price I would expect from a high end dining experience, not a small town diner in disguise. What rubs me to no end is that half of the bill was for booze! To charge $14.75 for a mediocre Whiskey & offer limited options is a "shame on you" event. To charge $14.75 for that is a "shame on me" event for not asking in advance how badly you were going to gouge me. Lesson learned... To recap, ok food, but nothing to write home about. Cajun Calamari is a joke. Want to have a cocktail, for goodness sake go anywhere other than this joint unless you have an AMEX Black Card which shows you don't give a crap... read more

I can't say that I agree with all of the reviews on this place. Yes, they are pricey, that I agree with. And the food was okay, but nothing all that great. I've dined in everything from elegant, upscale private clubs to McDonald's and this place just is not worth the price, in my opinion. It's a very cool building, but I don't judge a restaurant on the building. While the ambiance is cool, I go to a restaurant to eat. I don't mind paying more for really excellent food, but when the food is only okay, the prices should match. This was way more expensive than their food demands. Next time I'll go to a more moderately priced restaurant if the food is only going to be good. I can get good food just about anywhere. read more

Shoe Booties offers delivery but they don't deliver. If you order online on their website you will get a confirmation of the order. Then after waiting for over an hour, I call asking for an update. Guy answers the phone, " Sorry we never even looked at the order, sorry". What a sh*t show. New owners obviously don't care about local business. Once they got the order and confirmed it. They could have at least made a phone call and said "sorry we can't deliver, would you like to pick up or cancel the order"?" But nooooo. Let's just ignore our take out business." Never again. Would rather go the Pizza Hut where at least someone is managing the business. I guess Bistro 29 or other places in town will get our party of 8 business on a regular basis. read more

Many years ago when my brother owned a cabin north of Blue Ridge, he took me to Shoebooties for dinner. It was quaint, cute and the food was outstanding. We went several times and were always pleased and I remember that restaurant with fond memories. So when the opportunity to revisit that experience with a friend from Atlanta, we made a bee line to their front door. It had been so changed, I had to look to see if we were in the right restaurant. Gone were the round table tops with flowers on each table as well as the well seasoned" little old ladies" running the place. it was now a gaping space with booths along the two sides and I guess the empty middle was reserved for line dancing. It seemed to be redesigned out of weathered wood and no telling how many naugas died to make the seats for the weathered benches. They were advertising AYCE snow crab legs that night and it was a little early for dinner, so my friend and I chose to order an appetizer to munch on to while away the time until dinner started. just thought I would check the $$ verbally and it had gone from $45.00 pp to $55.00 pp. A huge jump from their website. The appetizer arrived and it was just meh. So we excused ourselves, paid and went elsewhere for a fine dinner at half the price. read more

This quaint café downtown Murphy was a pleasant surprise at first when I looked it up it didn't say much from the photos but so happy that we took the chance because the food was excellent service was great and we even came the next day for lunch again. Stopped by this restaurant to find out their offers. The hostess was clueless. I asked her if they had prime rib on Saturday evenings she said just a sandwich. I asked her to show me the dinner menu and she never did. Guess what? She is the daughter of the owner! Unbelievable! If it wasn't for the waitress we would have never eaten there. It's amazing that the daughter of the owner doesn't care about her father's business. The food is delicious, they need a different hostess that cares. read more

A noon arrival on Wednesday and we were seated and assisted immediately. I selected the fried pork loin sandwich special. Seasoned perfectly, served quickly and truly exceeded every expectation. Stopped in with my gf for lunch, this place is cute and reasonably priced. Our waitress was sweet and attentive and the food came pretty quickly. Had a glass of wine, a couple coronas, 1/2 sandwich and soup (lobster bisque), ahi tuna appetizer, sweet potato fries, and orzo for under $50. The bisque was a bit sweet, and my gf didn't love the tuna, but the orzo and the sweet potato fries were solid and so was the reuben (bread was maybe a little buttery). For the price, it's solid imo. Our waitress complimented my gf's style, which I thought was really sweet - gf says she would have returned the compliment bc she thought the waitress was pretty, she just wasn't expecting it. This is difficult. The food was yummy, service was TERRIBLE! NY strip and rib eye were delicious. Although, my steak was under the first time, they took it back and quickly gave me another one. It started from the get go . waitress had attitude didn't want to serve us on floor wanted us to go to bar . After we asked for booth she sat us and took order . After not receiving again she asked again only to be stared down with a ugly remark from waitress " I am getting it " !! Ok, I am a new "Local" and have been going here on a regular basis for several months. They have had a couple of "slip ups" i.e. running out of prime rib when I took an out of town guest there for his birthday SPECIFICALLY for the prime rib, but we had wonderful service UPSTAIRS from the bartender. Fast forward to this past Thursday when again, I took out of town guests there for the AYCE crab legs. First we are told that the bartender quit to go to dealer school and since there is no bartender, nothing but beer and wine. REALLY???? And you are one of the few upscale restaurants in Murphy?! Crab legs were EXCELLENT and never a question about reorders. Now for the service. Waitress was NOT friendly, had to ask for more napkins many many times and she passed by the table and brought nothing. One waitress accidentally dropped a salad dressing on the floor and it took a good 20 minutes for it to be cleaned up but we did put a slippery floor sign OVER the salad dressing. A young girl was busing tables but was constantly having to be told to bring more water, sodas to tables and never asked us if we needed anything. It is so disappointing to see a restaurant go downhill like this. There are so very few "upscale" restaurants and Shoebooties was ALWAYS FUN! Not anymore. Before I will go back, they need a bartender, and some friendly staff. read more

A pretty sparse menu, but thankfully the specials offered some better options. I started with the creole soup with shrimp which was mildly spicy. It had rice, slices of andouille sausage, celery, tomatoes, and bits of shrimp. The shrimp wasn't terribly fresh and tasted a bit fishy, but wasn't strong enough to ruin the dish. My entree was the Lemon Parmesan Shrimp on angel hair pasta. It was just the right portion and with seasoned with lemon sauce, capers, and tomatoes and served with a Sister Schubert dinner roll. My wife started with a generous house salad. For her entree she chose the Veggie Quiche, which had tomatoes, spinach and basil and a side of tasty cantaloupe. We have dined at ShoeBooties several times since moving here 4 years ago and had great experiences. We had not been there for a few months and went there tonight. Hubby was very disappointed in the fact they were out of potatoes for mashed or baked potatoes. Who can run out of potatoes when there are grocery stores in town? It was Saturday night, plan ahead already. So "the delivery didn't come in" is not a good response. They no longer serve their warm bread rolls, also disappointing. There was no bartender, so no cocktails. Only beer or wine. Wine is fine, but I prefer a pre-dinner cocktail. I gave them 3 stars because our steak and prime rib were very good!
