Had leather sandals that detached from one strap. Took it here to the cobbler and he diagnosed it and said he can fix all the joints (4) that are all cracking and coming apart. He charged me $25 and said he can do one shoe for $18 but will do both for $25. Cash only Up front. I came back 5 days later and he only did 2 joints. It was not only a sloppy job, he left glue residue everywhere. geez.. he didn't even wipe it down! I can do this better myself. I'm shocked how bad this went. the photos speak for themselves. Clearly my friend have go through the detail of what she wants the shoes be done, and He was not done the work that he promised, instead ruining the brand new Chanel boots (glue everywhere, leather is not cut straight, stitching was in and out). He was refused to get us the refund at the first place Calling my friend crazy women in Spanish, telling my friend she is not good at English. I brought several items into this location and I must say they were not done correctly. I brought in a pair of shoes twice to be repainted and reglued and tried explaining to the gentlemen that the particular style of shoe required leather paint versus other types because it doesn't flake like other oil based paints do. After one wear the shoes became severely separated and the paint started to chip off. No worries he did make a second attempt which the same thing happened. I also brought in an expensive hat that had damage to the brim in several sections and since the upper was python and the lower portion was lamb I asked that the hat NOT be painted with leather paint. Unfortunately both happened although it turned out OK it doesn't quite look the same... To be fair the gentlemen who works here is extremely friendly and he has done wonders with some of my other garments but the two above situations made me more selective on the shoe repairmen I go to. Overall this place is a decent place to go if you're of African decent. The workers are definitely friendly but I would focus more on leather specific items and or shoe's that don't require really intricate work. As you can see from my other reviews I have not had the most pleasant experiences lately in The Bay Area...However! I used to love this place - impressed by knowledge and service. They charged reasonable prices and they were best I'd worked with. But it's changed a lot. Prices are higher, which I don't mind in this expensive city ($200+ to fix 3 pairs of boots and 1 pair of sandals). But the quality change is unacceptable. In my most recent batch, one pair i paid to have stretched out simply wasn't stretched at all. And another pair of expensive suede with a sticker mark - that shoe wiz put there by using a sticker on the outside of suede- was removed by scrubbing all fuzz from the boots, permanent and ruinous damage. (I didn't even ask for the boots to be cleaned.) At least it got the sticker out... but they put another, bigger sticker mark on it. Ironic, right? I worried when I dropped off my order that it was finicky and complicated, and I get that, but the proprietor refused to take notes or any paper instructions. 'I got this,' he said, as if offended. Obviously he didn't. I want to note that two pairs of boots this time were indeed reconditioned and soled well. But the damage done to the other pair outweighs it. Great work, horrible service. I got two pairs of boots repaired. I came back to pick them up a week later. I stood at the counter watching him slowly do nothing for 3 min before he finally heard me gently trying to get his attention. Then when I told him I left my stub at home he told me it would take him too long to figure out which plastic bag of shoes was mine without the stub. Apparently he couldn't look for my name. He literally made me feel like it was the most inconvenient thing he has ever had to deal with. Whatever. I came back the next day with the effing stub. And guess what? He still needed to look at every single bag to find the right one. There is literally no rhyme or reason to how those plastic bags are hanging on those hooks. What is the difference between looking for my name and looking for a matching number? Clearly he can read. Anyway, totally over this place. I've been coming here for YEARS. And even worked with the guy when I managed a shoe department for Nordstrom and needed help with emergency shoe repairs. Liars. I had a pair of heeled boots that needed adjustments. I explained to two people at the counter that there was a gap in the heel, and it needed to be adjusted. They explained what needed to be done, and gave me a ridiculously expensive quote. Because I loved these boots, I said ok. I came back a week later, and they didn't fix them at all. They just polished them up and stuck glue where it was supposed to be adjusted. Awful work, awful craftsmanship. Awful service. The new manager is rude and dismissive and lies because he is not accountable for his work. I dropped off an expensive pair of Chloe heels to be "re-painted"; he told me a week as they had to be sent out. Came back a week later and the assistant couldn't find them. I made her call the new manager, spoke with him and he denied he told me a week. Eventually picked them up and one heel had a dark streak; I was told, "She can't help that it's a scratch." DO NOT GO THIS PLACE! I would give this place 0 if I can. My GF noticed this place when she is shopping at Westfield. I have a dirty white Yeezy 350 that needs to be clean. So we take the shoes to the store. It costs us $35 to clean. It is very pricy compared to other shoe repair store. We thought the results would be good and get a nice clean shoe. But the crazy thing is when we get the shoes is still very dirty, it almost like they don't even clean it. I needed a pair of Crockett and Jones double monk strap shoes re-soled and because I work near Westfield, figured I'd take them to Shoe Wiz in the mall. First, I assume the $115 premium they charged me to simply resole my shoes was due to the fact that I dropped them off while wearing a suit so the assumption was that I was a well-to-do mark. Assuming that they'd do an impeccable job on my shoes, I paid the premium in the hopes of seeing a completely restored shoe. I was aghast at how they'd put on a sole that was too small for the shoe AND did a half assed job lacing the sole to the shoe's welt. Don't take your nice shoes, or any shoes for that matter, to this footwear butcher. Their work and customer service are terrible. So disappointed! - Came in to pick my shoes up from a repair and shampoo, and they forgot to shampoo my shoes. - Came back in to pick up the same shoes from being shampooed, and they couldn't find my shoes! And said they would call when they found them. They never called- I had to call the next day to know they were found! - Finally, came in for the third time to pick up my shoes and the shampoo was poorly done, it took them five minutes to find the shoes, and when I asked for a free shine of the boots I was wearing they refused to do it. Given some of the mediocre to negative reviews on here I have been SO impressed and BEYOND satisfied. I've had my pair of walnut Allen Edmonds Cliftons for about a year and a half now and I've put a lot of miles on them-- they are my daily staple and my favorite. When I noticed some holes and severe damage coming through the soles I was on the edge of heart break. I felt like expecting a new pair from Nordstrom was taking advantage of the system, and alternatively, having them ship my only pair out for three weeks to re-sole was not an option. Passing this place on my way to Nordstrom I decided to stop in to feel the vibes. The owner here was was so kind and reassured me they would look brand new and unrecognizable-- for only $55. After getting my quote and thinking on it while finishing my other shopping I decided to do the frugal thing. I felt I could trust him but was not getting my hopes up. When I picked my babies up the next day (even though he offered to have them done in two hours) I was in awe. He was right. They looked and felt brand new and he explained what he did with such pride I could tell my shoes had been in good hands. As long as I am in the Bay I will always come here. Shoe Wiz used to be a professional place to get shoes repaired and cleaned, but after this store is commercialized, the quality of the services goes dramatically worse and worse. The crew now is dominated by three Spanish people. The owner will few often to come to work here. Anyway I don't recommend to come here to fix things nor to clean shoes any longer. 1. Shoes not fully cleaned, but the Spanish young guy argued that it was written on the receipt that not guaranteed. Not Guaranteed is his excuse not to do a great job. Please please please don't take your handbags or shoes here. I bought my Tory Burch purse in because it had some scuff marks. They were really friendly and said they could easily buff them out. A week later I picked up my bag. I noticed they had repainted it black. The scuff marks were still there but they were definitely lighter. By the time I got home I noticed that not only had they painted the bag but they painted over the gold hardware. The paint is coming off everywhere, my hands, all over my clothes. I called the store and the man who answered said I'll need to bring it back in so they can look it it. I'm super disappointed in this experience and would not recommend that anyone takes there stuff here Adding an update to the review here. Zero stars if I could. I just now picked up a pair of Roger Vivier boots from the shoe repair and they've scratched the buckle. The shoe repair man said maybe I hit my ankle against a chair, even though it's an obvious scrape that's a third of an inch by half an inch wide, not a dent. The proprietor asked for payment upfront, and I asked if he guaranteed his work. He asked what I meant by that, so I offered that if the boots might be ruined in his care, I would at least expect a refund. He then asked what I meant by ruined, so I related that I was concerned about the color; my boots are green, which can be harder to match than simply black. He got defensive about his level of expertise and quality of products, so I asked simply if he could test his polish on the tongue of my boot, to see if the color would match reasonably enough. He took one boot and proceeded to polish the heel before I could protest! He returned it to the counter and said, "Wait a minute for that to dry." Now the heel of my boot is a different shade of green than the rest of my boot (and than the entirety of the other boot)...so I really had no choice but to let him finish the work. He refused. I have been in his shop before, and I told him I've never been treated so. He replied that he owns the place, and he calls the shots. Merry Xmas to you too! read more

How would you like to get yelled at at 9:41am in the morning? Come on in and find out! I made the colossal mistake of coming out of my way here to get a simple insole replacement and got yelled out and shut down by a guy who looked a prison guard in the movie "Midnight Express". So the food court at the mall looked open and going and when I approached the door to this business I noticed no hours posted yet the door was open. So I walked into the empty shop to be greeted by a barrage of English-esque barking that ultimately were deciphered into "We open at 10 -- you get out now". Completely taken aback I reiterated -- "So you want me to just sit in the food court for 20 minutes while nothing is going on here and just try again?." The answer was yes. I fumed and waited my 20 minutes. I came back and the same guy was there, but calm. No apology though. So I explained that the insoles in my slippers need to be replaced and he got frustrated as I wouldn't let him just slip in his cheapo stock replacements. He goes fishing in my slippers and starts to remove my insoles! Hey, no focker! I made him stop and tried to reason with him. So he said it was too much trouble for him to call Acorn and get replacements. No, he wanted me to do the work, bring it back and he would glue them in for $15. Umm, no. F--- no. I have been using this shoe repair service for several years. Very prompt, courteous, good quality work, and reasonably priced.

Though I love Manolo and Jimmy, they don't exactly make shoes to be walked in - more to be looked at than anything else. If you wear a pair of stilettos out of the store, by the time you get home, the heel will already be worn down and the soft leather bottom scratched and faded. If you really love your shoes, fight the temptation to wear your new pair immediately and take them to Shoe Wiz to get the entire bottom refitted with rubber soles. Your shoes will last forever...or at least a couple years (although the heel itself will only last a couple months). It's not cheap, and their prices ALWAYS change, depending on how the guy feels that day, but I think it's still worth it. read more

I've known of this place forever but usually go to the Russian guy on Mission at First who is great. However, I'm currently working right across from the shopping center where this Shoe Wiz is located and thought I'd give a try. Last week the gentleman looked at my black dress boots and told me $32 for a re-sole, which I thought was a good price. I went back a week later and it was now $40 and I told him he quoted me $30 last week but he said, "no, for these it's $40). I go to pick up and the sole he gave me is this bubbly extra firm and durable sole. I did not ask for this sole, I specifically asked for a basic re-sole. At this point, the sole is going to last longer than the actual shoe and just not worth it. Yea, I realize it's only $10 more and it's a "better" sole but just listen to the customer, even if you think they're wrong. I am so angry as I was lied to and they damaged goods I dropped off and prepaid for. I have been going to this place for a couple of years because it was very convenient during my work day. I was really disappointed, too, because this owner/worker ruined my future business w him and I did not want that to happen and I told him so. Still he continued to lie to me -- and in front of customers who turned around in disgust and left. I dropped off my new Gucci shoes (in their silky white Gucci bags) to get $40 soles put on them before I wear them. The owner/worker took the shoes in the bags and I prepaid. When I came to pick them up, the white bags had black shoe polish on them (!) and even some red polish (Louboutin red). I complained immediately and he told me it was just dust... He kept insisting it was dust from the shop and I kept telling him it was polish and showing him. He said I shouldn't have given him the bags and I emphatically replied, "Well, why did you take them then? You could have just told me to take them back!!" He could have offered to "right" the situation but he didn't. I told him then that he really ruined my future business with him. The other customers then turned their backs and walked away. I caught up w them afterward, and they told me they're taking their business elsewhere. Yes, me too... I have this other pair of expensive pumps that they put soles and heels on, and I don't know what they did, but I have a permanent squeak in one of the shoes that I find quite embarrassing when I wear them. Took two pairs of shoes in here after a referral from a friend. The first pair had been poorly repaired elsewhere. I showed the clerk what I didn't like about the previous repair and was told it could be re-done correctly. When I picked them up nothing was different except they were shined up - guess that was supposed to impress me. I pointed this out but they didn't care and said there was nothing else they could do. The second pair needed the soles re-glued. Again, was told no problem. They were re-glued but they used too much glue and it could be seen coming out the edges. They said they would re-do them. Overpriced and they have done a terrible job on anything that requires more than minor skill. I have a lot of vintage shoes, and I take regular, good care of them, but this place has botched every sole repair. One time they left some nails inside the heel of my boots, so they would make a merry sound while I walked. Soon I realized the problem, when my heel came unglued, and I realized that instead of nailing the rubber in, they had forgotten the nails inside and used glue only. They charged me $30 for this, which seemed excessive, and I am still wondering if the guy made a mistake on the bill. Being that they are located just outside Powell St. BART station, in the Westfield shopping center, it was out of pure convenience that I took a pair of boots in for a chocolate brown dye job. Strike 1: they tried to charge me $80.! I talked them down to $50., but even that was *way* to much considering that the boots turned out so bad that I will never wear them. Also, once we agreed on the price, they asked for payment UP FRONT. ? Strike 2: not only were my boots sticking together from whatever cheap spray-crap they used to make them brown (causing the color to chip off in certain spots), but they painted the heels! ? Strike 3: when I pointed out that I didn't want the heels painted he said it was my fault because I didn't tell him not to, and then told me that he could remove the spray, but he would have to charge me. ? This exchange brought about visions of penetrating his eye socket with the heel of my boot, because at that moment, my heel covered in his brain matter was well worth a five-0. read more

It seems like many people have had good experiences here; too bad mine was crap. I took a pair of relatively new Bally loafers (~$350) in for what should have been a simple repair. The glue that holds the sole to the leather had come undone and needed to be re-glued. Instead they suggested restitching the sole - ok - sure, that should last longer and prevent a future re-gluing, right? A few days later it took around 30 minutes for them to just find the shoes by which point I was running late and left quickly. While I was putting the shoes on a few days later I noticed that the leather shank was badly scraped on each shoe from the stitching process - annoying, but whatever it's on the bottom of the shoe and nobody will see it. I hadn't even make it to my front door when I hear a "flopping" sound and remove the offending shoe for inspection. So in the process of restitching the sole they loosened the heel portion and caused it to be supported only by the stitching around the toe - I'm calling this the reverse-hobo. Finally, to add insult to injury they used the wrong polish which has been flaking off leaving the smooth leather looking like crap. I won't be going back here. Ever. read more

This place could easily get 5 stars but the hassle of having to come BACK to ask them to remove all the black goo crap from my boots they got on them really sucked. HOWEVER, the did get it off and overall the work done looks good. I would only go back to them if I worked nearby and it wasn't such a hassle to get to.
