I mailed a pair of beloved sneakers from Fort Bragg to Anthony's for resoling. Got them back reborn. Terrific job!

BAD BAD BAD... I took some boots I really liked here to be re-soled. He was friendly enough and talked me into a $190 job. He took half payment on the spot. I didn't realize that was ransom. He said it would be about a month. After 2 months I called him and he said he couldn't talk but would call me right back. Well, 3 weeks later after not hearing back I called again. He said he would get them done in a few days. Now 3 months after bringing them in I went to pick them up. For $190 he hadn't even finished the inside with insoles. (the glue was visible) I ordered insoles elsewhere because frankly I don't ever want to deal with him again. Then the worst thing of all...the right boot makes a clicking noise with every step. I hate wearing them. Whatever he did wrong basically ruined them. read more

I walked in to this store to get my shoe fix but immediately I was told appointment only. I said ok, I wanted to make an appointment. The owner Gino then proceed to asked what I needed help with. He quoted me $180 to replace my sole. I knew it was overpriced but I still wanted to give him a try. He said he will call and text me to show me some pictures of shoe tap for my soles. He quoted me the sole will be done in 10 days. (Which is ridiculous) but I agreed because I felt patience that day and I already agreed to getting my shoe fix with him. Ten days passed, no communication. I called him with my work number, he answered and told me I had to call him with my cell because he didn't know who I was?? ...I questioned him the status of my shoe and whether I can pick out the shoe tap like he promised. He said give him a couple of days. Two more weeks passed, no communication at all. I called him with my cell, no answer. So I texted him, he texted back and said he need more time. Another day. I politely told him it's not acceptable. He decided to tell me to come by later that day. I came on time and of course he was still working on my shoe. I paid, he gave me a free shoe conditioner. Which didn't matter to me. He text me the next day to ask about my shoe. I assumed he wanted to gain my business. I got my shoe in 3 weeks. Two days later, my heel of my shoe started to un glue. I took upon myself to glue it myself because I did not want to step foot into his business again. Nevertheless .. terrible business, terrible services, bad attitude. I went to Mak and Co across the street two weeks later to get another Allen Edmund sole fix. I paid $130 and I got my shoe the NEXT DAY.!!!!!!! Ming is the owner. He's cool. After many years of excellent service, this Union Square shop, has sunk to a low level of customer service, outrageously long periods of repair time; lack of published stor hours which prevent a customer from visiting at convenient times for product pickpup PRICE GAUGING --after an absurdly long wait periods for product pick-up( 3 month!!!) , the price of the repair was exorbidantly high. If I had been given a quote or apprised during the repair of its intricacy of the repair, I would have chosen another business but I was trying to be a loyal customer after many years of patronage. i consider how I have been treated by this establishment as a form of ELDER ABUSE!!! i would cross the Bay to come to this once fine establishment. CAVEAT EMPTOR. Brand new Giuseppe Zanotti boots completely butchered. See attached photos of boots that were cut down (they were too tall & needed to be shortened). Owner took months to return them to me (way past the 2 week promise date). Did not return phone calls or text messages. They were finally returned to me with raw, rough, uneven edges and inconsistent & fraying stitching. All around so egregious that I couldn't even ask him to fix it. I probably would have never gotten them back. I took them to Felix at Galletti Bros to repair. He was mortified and said that it should never have been cut down this way. This shop is incompetent and unprofessional. I do not recommend it at all. This was a very unpleasant incident that happened pre-COVID, but it stuck in my craw, so I wanted to report it. The shop owner (Gino, I think) took my purse and said that a simple repair on the strap could be done, no problem. When I returned to pick it up, the owner wasn't in. The strap wasn't repaired correctly at all and looked terrible. The receptionist didn't know anything about it, so she called over the leather worker. When I pointed out the (very obvious) mistake to him, he belligerently argued with me and then walked away. The owner never contacted me to rectify the problem. I had to take my purse to a competent leather service shop (Skin On Skins), which reversed the damage and repaired it properly. If you care about your time, money, personal items, and stress levels, I suggest staying away from this place altogether. read more

Amazing! I had a pair of suede Christian Louboutin shoes that needed TLC! Some idiot at the VIP section at Infusion Lounge dropped his redbull on my very expensive shoes , I was so mad! Was also mad at myself for wearing expensive suede in this cheesy club. Ugh! I thought the shoes were completely ruined. The suede was matted down and didn't even look like suede anymore. They were even discolored in areas. I was so sad and depressed about it. I was even more depressed when I took the shoes to another shoe repair place downtown. They told me that the shoes were ruined , and that's the problem with suede. Boo:-( The story gets better! I didn't give up. I ended up googling "suede repair/ cleaning SF" and this place popped up. Anthony's! Took them over and in a few days I got them back. AMAZING!!!! It was a Miracle!!!! I don't know how they did it, but the shoes looked as good as the day I bought em! They did a really shoddy job replacing the zipper on my $500 boots. The stitching lines are crooked, and there are pieces of loose leather shavings and thread sticking out. Came here when I found that the edge of the strap on my coach purse was falling apart. Since that was the only part that is messed up why waste a 300 dollar purse? They did an average job. I felt like they did a half assed job. Like they plastered some kind of leather paste and didn't even fill in the edges. WTF! If they gave me the paste I could have probably done a better job. UGH! THIS IS THE WORST SHOE REPAIR IN THE BAY AREA. They are understaffed, have the worst attitude, is overpriced, and has disgusting quality. Do not bring your shoes here especially if they are brand new and expensive. The guy (owner I assume) overcharged simple because he said my shoes are way too expensive and it will not be fair for him if the price is low. What kind of a reason is that? I would have been okay with that if the quality was superb. But it was not! They stained my designer shoes!!!!! And this guy doesn't commit to his deadline. I had to go back and forth! Love this place! I've been going for years and have never been disappointed. Saturday I met George! Best guy ever! He repaired a purse strap that belongs to a client of mine --"my dog ate it". My new puppy was happily chewing away at the strap for a few minutes before I realized what was happening. Confidently, I told the client I knew exactly where to take it for repair--horrified, I ran to Anthony's and voila! Luckily, it's good as new, thanks to George. I've used Anthony's for a while, there have been ups and downs but on the whole had a good experience. Always wondered about the actual quality of their work. Shoes never felt quite the same after getting them serviced but I chalked that up to the type of service and not their workmanship. Two months after getting the soles replaced on my dress shoes, after maybe 10-15 days of wearing I started to feel a click on my sole walking through the airport. I look to see what's going on and the heel has fully detached from the shoe. So much for the premium sole that was supposed to last for a long time, doesn't do you much good when it is poorly attached. OR So I thought! Gino reached out, reminded their work comes with warranty, and offered to fix them. Thankfully I wasn't able to get my shoes repaired while out traveling: why: simple: the shoe was, apparently, defective. Prada had forgotten to nail in the heels on that shoe. Gino let me know that when they replace a sole they don't normally touch the part of the heel that connects the shoe, but instead replace the bottom layer. He opened the inside of the shoe and showed me where the heel attached and lo and behold: the right shoe had nails and the left did not. He offered to fix the shoe, regardless of it being a defect vs his workmanship, and got me my shoes back in a couple hours so I wouldn't have to drive back downtown to pick them up. Anthony's is my new favorite shoe cobbler. Super patient, doesn't try to oversell and does amazing work. I needed the heels replaced on my Alden Indy boots and a new sole on my other aldens with a gum sole. I was shown dozens of options to replace the gum sole, but he could tell I was hesitant so he offered a temporary fix with a new gum heel while I think through a more long term fix. For the Indy boot I was stunned to see cats paw heels available. Couldn't be more thrilled with how my boots turned out and will recommend to everyone. He'll be receiving some loafers in the near future to work on. read more

Never fun when a recommendation from a friend doesn't work out so well. I took a pair of Tory Burch wedges here and paid 1/3 of the retail price of the shoes to fix them up, only to have the fixes come apart just a few days later. I got the inner soles relined and the bottom soles repaired. Upon pickup, the metal emblems at the toe of the shoe were covered in globs of glue I had to scratch the hardware in order to remove. How did the glue get there in the first place? Within a few days, the thin rubber resole on the bottom of the shoe was worn off from walking minimally on city concrete. Would have been better off if I just bought a new pair of shoes. Won't bring any other shoes here since the work was sloppy and repairs didn't last and it certainly wasn't worth the $90. read more

I went to Anthony's to repair my tango dance shoes and the service and work were both fantastic. A friend had recommended the shop specifically for tango shoe repair. The leather soles on the bottom of my shoes got scuffed while dancing on pavement in a park (mistake). Women's tango shoes share many characteristics with nice dress shoes: often made of leather, sometimes hand-crafted, usually $150-$250 (or more), not available for sale everywhere - so difficult and expensive to replace. Additionally, tango shoes must function as well as look great - they must fit tightly so you can control your feet and have a low friction bottom for dance. The bottom is either leather or suede. My shoes are black suede Bandoleras, made in Italy, 6 mm heel height. I dropped in Anthony's and the woman behind the counter asked me to come back when the manager was there, to ensure the repair was done right. I came back when he was present and we talked about the shoes and their use. He showed me different options for a leather sole replacement. The work was done in about a week and cost $40. Precise, well sanded and glued, dances like a dream. Highly recommended. read more

Had a pair of Jimmy Choos that needed to be surgically stretched & Anthony's Shoe Service is where they send all their work. The people at JC had had my shoes in their stretcher for days but couldn't do anything w/ the strap of the shoe b/c it was attached to a piece of elastic & obviously every attempt to stretch the strap would result in the elastic just snapping back into place - duh! And couldn't punch another hole in the strap b/c we were already at the end of the leather So had to call in the experts to get the smaller elastic removed & replaced w/ a bigger piece of elastic. I told Jimmy Choo that if they trusted Anthony's to protect the integrity of the shoe & the elastic would NOT be visible, I was willing Shoes were not ready on 2 different times they were promised & it got to the point I was at the night before I needed to wear them so I took the claim slip from JC & walked over to Anthony's myself b/c I needed them ASAP JC called to let them know I was coming over & I think that was the time they started working on my shoes b/c they still weren't ready but about 20 min later, as I was sitting there, waiting on them, they were Workmanship seemed okay enough but there's a small bit of the elastic that shows outside the strap - which was something I was promised would not happen. But it wasn't noticeable enough to take them back & like I said...I needed them the next night $29 So would I take shoes here on my own? Not sure.....there were 2 customers in there while I was there who had BAGS of shoes to be fixed & there were shoes all over the place so I know business is good & a lot of people must trust them ........ maybe it's worth a shot.......if timing is flexible read more

My review will be consistent with previous reviewers. My wife had a Christian Dior handbag with a zipper that had gone awry. The slider was not closing the teeth. Apparently, Anthony's is the shop to which Christian Dior sends customers for repairs to its products; Christian Dior may want to reconsider this policy. My wife brings the bag in a few months ago, asking for a repair. She suggests that the whole zipper (teeth and slider) get replaced. Anthony's says that only the slider needs to be replaced, and it would cost $23. Against her better judgment, my wife decided to proceed with the repair. 3 weeks after getting the bag back, the zipper is again not functioning, with the same problem of the slider not closing the teeth being the issue. Since I work nearby, I brought the bag to Shoe Stop at Rincon Center to get their thoughts. They said that it could be the slider or both the slider and the teeth, but the slider at the very least needed to be repaired. When I told them that Anthony's had put a new slider in, the guy's at Shoe Stop were surprised and suggested that I go back to Anthony's and speak with somebody named Gino and that he'd make it right. They said that they'd do the repair for $13 if I decided not to go back to Anthony's. Today, I brought the bag back to Anthony's without noting that they had previously repaired it to ask what the issue might be. They looked at it and said that the slider was old and needed to be replaced. As it turns out, they charged $23 + tax for absolutely nothing at all. I note to them that they replaced the slider just a few months previously and and ask them to make it right, but all I get is excuses. I suggest that they replace the entire zipper, including both teeth and slider, as my wife initially suggested, and that I'd pay the difference above what that service would cost versus what my wife paid for a slider replacement (which they obviously never did to begin with). They told me that I'd need to pay for both a slider replacement and a new zipper, and the cost would be about $60 total (ON TOP OF THE $23 ALREADY PAID). I assumed that I mis-heard that they wanted to charge me again for a slider, especially considering that they never replaced it the first time. This entire conversation happened with the customer service kid who works the front desk. My piece of advice for him: find a new job because customer service is not a towering strength of yours. He tried to flag down Gino to talk to me, but Gino was on the phone and couldn't be bothered. I heard Gino mutter to the kid "tell them that it's been over a month since we last did the repair. They need to pay again." Instead of waiting for Gino to get off the phone, I said that I was simply going to take my business elsewhere and that another "glowing" review was going to be posted on Yelp. The thing is...I don't think these guys know what Yelp even is. They don't seem to give a shiz, nor do they seem to appreciate that Yelp provides the platform either to praise or damn a business. This isn't 1987 anymore, guys...word of mouth is crowdsourced, so you may want to get your shiz together before your fate goes the way of Kodak, Zenith, and Montgomery Ward. You are accountable for the service you provide. I can't in my better judgment recommend this play to anybody. What a crock. read more

Anthony's: the best shoe repair in SF, yet they still do a mediocre at best job. Basically they suck, but all the other shoe repair shops that I've used in SF are worse. I get the blatant vibe that they do not give a toot about your shoes or you as a customer at all. Go in and talk to them. Go ahead- you'll see. One time they returned a pair of black Fendi boots to me with dried glue splattered all over them. I was picking and scratching it off for weeks. Another time, after having my heel replaced on the same boots, two weeks go by and the heel had already ground down to the metal. I promptly brought them back in, claiming ludicrousity (yes I just made that word up), and received some kind of an answer along the lines of "well, that's the kind of heel tips we use". I said, "well - can you find a better kind that doesn't wear down in less than a week of actual wear? Since I paid $25 to have it replaced?" He murmured some response, took the shoes back and said he'd only charge half to re tip them. Mediocre, ah...yes. They often have lost accessories as well: shoe trees, dust bags ect. when items were returned after repair. And, they've now stopped doing handbag restoration as well. Can't we get a decent shoe repair that takes pride and care in their work? San Francisco is so NOT the city for the fashion extraordinaire ~ this is one of the many examples of disappointment. I've taken many-a-shoe to Anthony's over the last 7 years. Sadly, my last experience put the nail in the coffin for me. I AM OVER IT with the woman who works the register. She has been been rude since day one. She is snippy and refuses to discuss any questions that you might have with your repair. And being a long-time customer doesn't mean a hill-of-beans to these guys. I'll be totally honest, Geno and Anthony know their craft very well and have done some amazing work on tailoring boots to performing miracles on well-worn heels, etc. over the years. That's why I've endured the delayed turn-arounds and snippiness at the counter. ...if I could bypass the tyrant at the counter, I'd probably continue to go. Most recent experience: I walked in with 4 pairs of shoes and when I asked for a stitching repair on one of shoes, the woman said that they couldn't fix it and suggested that I simply glue it. I had to argue with her to have them fix it. I had to say "I would like to pay you money so you can repair this for me" ...when I came back to pick them up, they hadn't even glued it (let alone stitched it). When I asked what they did, she said they glued it - I showed her that there wasn't any glue. She accused me of rubbing the glue off. (please!). She would have argued with me all day about this. Then Anthony finally came up and said, oh, I can add some leather here and stitch it here and wah-la, no problem, I can fix this. Hmf! This is exactly what I asked for in the beginning. Off course, this is after several similar experiences over the years. At this point, I'd rather spend my money where the business appreciates the customer a bit more. read more

Shoe repair with a side of attitude. The quality and handiwork here is above average, however, I have to dock two attitude points. This store was recommended to me by some fine shoe stores, and I have not been disappointed by the workmanship, so I continue to use their services. However, every time I come into this store, I feel like a nuisance rather than a customer. The prices are exorbitant, however I don't have a frame of reference so I will pay. Certain members of the staff here are perpetually rude. If I drop off a pair of shoes, and they are not ready when promised, it is somehow my fault. I once had a pair of sandals resewn here and came to pick them up several weeks after they were to be ready. They hadn't even begun working on the shoes, and rather than apologizing, the owner made several excuses and blamed me for not calling in advance. Why should I call in advance if you say you will have my shoes ready. On another occasion, I picked up several pairs of shoes when they were promised and had to wait half an hour for one pair to be completed. Again, no apologies, and heavy on the attitude. Since my shoes never seem to be ready at the estimated time, I decide to give them additional time to work on them. However, it appears that if I don't pick up a pair of shoes in a timely manner, it is my fault. I recently retrieved six pairs of boots to be resoled. They promised them at a particular time but did not call me. I picked them up a few months later and the owner said 'Thank god,' rudely. This is not the first time he has been rude to me. Anthony's = Life Savers What do you do when you discover a sticky, brown stain on your Rebecca Minkoff purse? Take it to Anthony's. After last night's debauchery with the rest of the CM team, it doesn't surprise me that I found a Jager-like substance on the side of my quasi-new purse this morning. Thankfully, the kind woman sitting next to me at breakfast overheard my meltdown followed by a string of obscenities. She recommended Anthony's, which just so happened to be a block from my hotel. Considering I paid more for that bag than Kevin paid for his first car (according to him), I wasted no time in rushing to Anthony's. The guy behind the counter felt my pain and tried to clean it on the spot. With no luck, he told me he would need to take it for a little extra TLC. I stressed our time limits and he promised to rush it. I prepaid and left my baby to the pros. I returned half an hour later to find that they were able to spot clean, remove the stain and condition the leather. No traces of Jager were left! It was less than 30 bucks and saved my trip from a serious bummer. Plus, H&M is just a few blocks away - it made for a perfect "waiting room" while my purse was doctored. read more

I bring in a pair of my beloved Bally dress shoes to get repaired, basically replace the worn out bottom portion of the shoe AND I get back my pair of shoes (after the third visit in one month) at least 3x heavier then when I brought them in to get repaired, worst of all the stitching on the side of the shoe holding the leather to the shoe bottom is completely destroyed, and weeks of frustration. I had definitely hoped for a better result and I even talked to the owner (Anthony) the first time. He was astonished and apologetic. Yet, each time I went to check on my shoe (after receiving no phone calls on updates) I find they haven't repaired it properly i.e. just smeared black glue around the shoes edges as a temporarily fix. Each time the cashier was COMPLETELY oblivious and non-responsive to my concerns. This is supposed to be an italian owner that is a shoe craftsman... I see none of this. AND I will definitely tell Saks Men's Store salesmen who raved about Anthony's they were wrong. And badly wrong. Very sad - I am so frustrated I don't know what to do my pair of shoes. Service has gone downhill. We used to be loyal customers of Anthony's when it was on Geary St. Now, the prices are just too high for terrible service. One recent example: I brought my boots in on a Monday morning for pick up Friday evening. Plenty of time. Thursday afternoon, they called to get an OK for a new zipper - yes, I'd already said it was OK on Monday. Anyway, I'd already paid $44 for shine & repair. Another $20 on pick up. These boots are worth it, so I agreed. Intending to wear them to an event on Saturday, I called Friday morning to make sure they'd be ready... The guy said they'd be ready & don't worry they're a priority & he'd give me a call to let me know. Great. He never called. They closed at 5:30 on Friday & I didn't get my boots. For Saturday's event. Now it's one week later & I still haven't received a call back. I want my boots back but I don't want to go in & pay another $20 for the zipper. They failed to finish the job on time. Now I'll be out $64+ for boots I didn't get to wear for the event I brought them in for. Fail. read more

I drop off a vintage alligator clutch on 8/11 I paid 10 euro and it needs a small stitching but overall fab condition. They ask for $29. I say that's okay. The receipts says will be ready on the 8/20. I came 8/25 clutch not ready. No calls no nothing, the person on the counter says the manager will be working on it and he will call me on tues. I waited for call it never happen. I called 8/30 and spoke to the manager and he was not sure which clutch I was referring too and he said he will return my call. A week later still no call from them. So I'm like whatever. I came by 9/7 and ask if my clutch is ready. They have not even started to work on it. I demanded it back for a refund. I will take my business somewhere else. Please avoid this place no customer service. read more

I have taken shoes and bags here for repair on and off since I moved here in 1986. It's very uneven service and has gotten worse in recent years. Sometimes they do a fine job, but far too often the shoes are not ready when promised, and several times I have come back to find the repair wasn't done at all, even after waiting 2 weeks!! They make you pay in advance and then the shoes aren't ready when you need them. Several times the plastic replacement heel tips they put on my shoes broke after one wearing because they cheap or were driven in too tight. I might take a bag here to be restitched as there are so few places who do that, but I would not go out of my way to have my shoes repaired here anymore. read more

Wow, reviewers were right about the lack of warm greeting. That's putting it mildly. These people are downright rude. I walked in this morning to the most unpleasant woman who didn't look the least bit interested in assisting me. I asked for a few different services for two pairs of boots (heel, lining, shine, etc.). I know they do a good job - I've been there before but the prices were higher than other places, the estimated time frame seemed excessive (considering they do the work on site) and the unfriendly manner just put me off. I told her to cancel the order and took by boots to the shoe shine guy in Crocker Galleria (A Shine & Co. on the ground floor). I didn't even know they did repairs but the guy was considerably nicer and friendlier. Their prices are better and they estimated half the turnaround time that Anthony's gave me (despite the cobbler being off site!). They're also closer to my office so I was happy. Once I get my boots back and see the results, I'll write a review for them. I'm hoping to have found a new cobbler. Life is just too short to deal with unpleasant people... read more

Anthony's has hired cheap labor to cut costs and it shows tremendously in the workmanship. I will not be back ever. I am now taking my shoes to Nordstrom's vendor. He screwed up a pair of Louboutins. Dyed the leather a gold and the paint is feathering. Sadly, my designer shoes look like fakes now. Heart breaking. Lose the cheap labor, bring back your quality and MAYBE you'll start to see some of the old faces you once serviced. read more
