I'm not sure why people give this guy 5 stars. Perhaps, because of his positive personality and the chant music that he plays 24/7?! If so, I would do so tool, but c'mon... I fixed three pairs of shoes there over the 2 years. Every single one of them had to be re-fixed again within 2 months max. After I got my first pair of shoes fixed there and the sole got detached same week. The guy re-glued the soles without any problems. Then sole and heals got deteriorated after wearing the shoes not even for 2 months. Next time I came to Shoe Craft, I asked the guy to use a better material for both of my shoes, so it does not wear and tear as fast as last time. And guess what?! After two weeks I was back there to re-glue the sole of both of my shoes and I need new soles now due to the extra fast wear & tear. Yes, the prices there are really reasonable, but next time I have to fix my shoes, there is no way I'm going back to the guy, just because my time is worth much, much more. Plus, at the end, you don't save anything, if not losing, the materials used by the guy wears and tears 10 times faster comparing to a sole & heal on a brand new pair of shoes, and you probably, save only $10. Another perfect score for a great craftsman. I took my snowboard boot in here - yeah, I wasn't expecting him to be able to fix it. The stitching on the front of my back foot had come undone, leading to the glue separating, leading to an ugly boot with crap everywhere. I thought I could get away with crazy glueing it, but on closer inspection, there was no way to clamp it down. Resorting to Yelp to find a specialist, I showed up here and he charged me $8 and told me to come back in a few days. Got it today - it looks awesome. I recently brought my shoes back to Shoe Craft... the second time in two years I've had to had my shoes repaired and both times I came here. I swear, it felt like I was walking on brand new shoes today. The owner here does amazingly fantastic things to shoes and gave my favourite pair a new lease on life. He fixed the soles on them, added a little plastic lift to the back to fix the worn out heel and patched them all back up. I'll probably get at least another year or two out of them. Nice guy, cheap prices, fast service. I was hoping to get completely new rubber soles for my flimsy (but adorable) flats but he said it was just too difficult for the types of shoes I brought in. I'm not the shoe expert so I'll trust his suggestions. So far my shoes are holding up great. I got: - Tips glued to the heels and toes of 2 pairs of flats. - Some sewing done on cloth flats that had started coming apart. - Some leather added to the inside of flats whose seams were coming apart. All for $20, and under 10 minutes! I was expecting to come back another day for pick up but this was a nice surprise. And bonus - he copies keys too! Awesome place! Found it on yelp (thanks fellow yelpers). I brought in a pair of Jeffrey Campbell leather booties that I love and didn't want to toss. The heels were worn down pretty badly and the back of the leather was starting to rip. Joe did a great job! For $20 he gave me a new heel and patched the ripped leather. Yes, it was on pavement (I forgot my lame heel protectors in the car) but still -- I've had tips on Target shoes last longer (no exaggeration). After about 20 minutes walking, my heels were shredded to the point where I had to (ugh) pull a 2011-era Britney Spears and go barefoot around the Berkeley campus... otherwise I would have seriously damaged the heels. The cobbler here plays cultish Asian music that puts me in a trance. He is friendly and tries to accommodate your schedule for pick-up times. One time, he offered to do it while I was right there so I could go my merry way. I didn't go for it but it was nice of him to offer! I don't take my shoes anywhere else. This guy is FAST and CHEAP. Shoe Craft is just a few steps away from the 8x and 30 bus stops. I stood in line behind a middle aged guy who was picking up a pair of repaired shoes and dropping off 3 more pairs that belong to his wife, lol. Looked like a real regular. All 3 would be picked up the next day! I myself am a return customer after having heels added to my Sofft sandals a few months back. It was def not a perfect job, so I think pricey shoes should go to cobblers who take the time to remove soles, sand down, and replace (rather than glue on a new heel). Yeah it was a same day job so I was satisfied. This season, I came back for a quick fix-- new heel soles put on my 9 West boots that I wore to death on cobblestone. 10 minutes and less than 10 bucks later, they're ready for more stomping around. When I lived in NY, these shoes would require a week apart from mama, cost $25, and come back all polished and restored. But I don't mind the trade off. Time is money. I used to be an avid reviewer but am guilty of not writing one in months. However, my experience with shoe craft has inspired me to review again; at least this one time. 4 pairs of my shoes were in desperate need of repairing. I'm guilty of wearing my heels all the way to the core and always bumping my pointy toed flats against surfaces which make the point of the shoe wear and tear and one pair seriously looked liked my dog chewed on the heel which shell never admit. I'm also guilty of being the extravaggant type that just throws out shoes and buy brand new pairs; sometimes, even buying the same shoes 3 times instead of fixing them. With the economy the way it is, I decided to be frugal with my precious dollars and take my shoes to get repaired. Shoe Craft was highly rated so I gave them a try. I must admit, the absolute worse part of the whole experience was finding parking. There's no metered parking so you have to park in the garage across the street which I hare because that's extra money being spent. And the garage was a huge maze so I was a little lost. Anyway, the rest of the experience wad a pleasure. I took my 4 pairs in, told him exactly what needed to be fixed and he said he could have it done in an hour but I told him I'll pick it up the following day cause I didn't want him to rush on my shoes. I went home a realized I forgot a pair! Dammit! The next day, I came in to pick up my shoes and I also dropped off the pair I forgot. He told me to wait and he'll work on my shoe rhen and there. So I waited thinking it would take an hour since it says 1 hour service. While I waited, I inspected my shoes. The white heels and black heels and black flats litteraly looked brand new again, but the one that looked like my dog knawed on it... Well he did a great job salvaging the heel but I think I'll have to buy a new pair cause it was really knawed to the core. And as soon as I was done inspecting, he was done with my other shoes! All for $35!!! (Plus the $4 total for parking both days ugh!) I am very satisfied! For the most part, he was nice, timely, and cheap. ---Yes, you are right. He was nice. It would only take a few hours. and $7 par/shoes. HOWEVER::: HE DESTROYED BACK OF MY SHOES!! I just got that shoes too. Due to large amount of shoes, and dark store, I couldn't see it when I was checkint them, but when I came home, I noticed back of my shoes were totally melted from the heat of the machine and peeled off. My favorite pair of grey, flat, over the knee boots....I KNOW, fierce right? have basically given up on me in the soles. As always, I took the advice of my fellow Yelpers and I have not been let down! One of my pet peeves is women who wear shoes with heels that have been worn down to the nail. All you hear is a loud tink*tink*tink. Don't you hear that? Doesn't it make you go crazy? Well it makes me go crazy so when my beloved boots and heels were in dire need of some TLC, I took them to the nice man at Shoe Craft. He is in a convenient location and offered to have them both done in a hour! He's fast! Alas, I couldn't wait so I had go back next weekend. He glued the bottom of one pair and replaced the heels on both- it came out to $16! He did a nice job and not to sound weird but I'm wearing the boots today and I like the sound they make... it's a nice deep click-clack, not super sharp tink-tink-tink. :) He also fixes handbags! Shoe Craft is a tiny shop located just a few stores over from Boba Guys at Union Square and is run by a friendly Chinese man who works on shoes and copies keys for reasonable sums ($2.50 for keys and $15 for a shoe polish). I brought a pair of leather shoes to him that were getting scuffed in the front and he made them look good as new :-). He was able to polish them up while I ate lunch! Allow me to break down the diffs between these two establishments: TASK: resole heels of a pair of wooden clog boots Anthony's: $50, 2-week turnaround Shoe Craft: $12 in 1 hour Shoe Craft was cheaper, faster, and they did excellent work. I found out about this though Yelp. I needed my heels fixed and came here the day before I left for Vegas. This place is right before the tunnel to Chinatown, next to some snack or flower store. It's a small store (probably the size of 12x12 bedroom) with machines on the left and some shoe products on the right. Three chairs and prices on the left, before the counter. Cash only. I got two pair of heels replaced in 15 minutes for $12. He also painted some black ink on one of the heels because it got scratched. He is very friendly, especially if you can speak Chinese, and very accommodating. I wanted to get some additional service and he was willing to work around his time. If you are in a hurry or bringing a lot of shoes, be sure to mark where you want your shoes fixed. I will definitely come here another day to fix all my other shoes. read more

I brought two pairs of flat boots in to get the heels and soles fixed; they had been worn down. He told me that he'd put heel guards on each of the heels and that would fix it. I said okay and off I went. I should've asked more questions, I guess--but I don't know all that much about shoe repair, which is why I would hope to count on a professional to make my shoes functional and looking good again. When I picked up my shoes, I expected to see some new heels for each of my boots, but nope. He just attached some heel guards to the places that had the most wear and that was it. $25 for the work on the two pairs of shoes. I'm relatively satisfied with one pair, since he beefed up/filled in the heel of the shoe before affixing the heel guard. The heel guard is quite obvious and sticks out from the rest of the shoe's heel, but I can deal with it. The other pair just looks terrible. They're tan flat booties and he attached the black heel guards at the most worn area of the shoe at an odd angle. When I put the boots on, they don't stand flat--and I'm kind of wobbly on what should be flat boots. He didn't do anything to give the heel back its life--all he did was slap on the heel guards. What is that?! Ugh. I just took these shoes to another shoe repair shop to fix. Sad. read more

Not surprised to find this place has a) relatively few reviews and b) they're all five stars. This is a hidden gem, a hole-in-the-wall shoe repair place near the Union Square side of the Stockton Tunnel. Last night I was on my way to an event at the Ritz Carlton, and even though I was in my trusty suit and the shirt everyone seems to like, I was feeling a little self-conscious about my scuffed shoes. I was also feeling a little self-conscious that perhaps square-toed shoes are now hopelessly dated, but the scuffs were the real issue at hand. As I was walking up Stockton in my scuffed-up square-toed shoes, out of nowhere appeared a place where I could get them repaired. I asked the guy if there was something he could do quickly to help me out. Absolutely, he said, taking my shoes to the back and working magic on them. Five minutes, five bucks, good as 1999. The outfit now complete, I hiked the rest of the way up Stockton to the gala at the Ritz, got some more compliments on my shirt, and no one looked askance at my shoes. He fixed the bottom of my Steven Madden in an hour for only $8, that includes gluing and sewing, and one can barely notice the thread at the heal of the boot. After just a few months of wear, my favorite pair of heels needed their bottoms replaced... after reading reviews on Yelp, I decided to take them here. He told me they would be done in 10-15 minutes, so I grabbed a latte at Starbucks, indulged in a few minutes of people watching in Union Square, then went back to pick up my shoes.
