I have brought many newer and vintage leather boots to Azeb for repair over the years. She is super skilled and detail oriented and it shows in her excellent work. Most recently, I brought in an old pair of Sam Edleman cowboy ankle boots. The leather upper had come unglued from the toes; the heels were worn down past the leather covering; they were looking pretty sad. She stitched the uppers to new soles, seamlessly repaired the heel coverings, and conditioned the leather. They are better boots now than when I bought them new. This kind of quality repair is expensive but worth it, to keep a beloved pair of boots in my wardrobe and out of a landfill. My shoes have always been ready by the date she gives for pick up. Update: After about two weeks Mima messaged me back and things moved pretty smoothly afterwards. She was very responsive and my pairs of leather shoes look great. We arranged for a time for me to drop by and pick them up but due to timing, she came by my house to drop them off personally. All in all, the service was great after we finally got in touch. I dropped my shoes off two weeks ago with the lady in the front. The shoe repair owner wasn't there but the lady assured me she would get it to the owner. It's been two weeks and I haven't heard back from the owner. I have tried repeatedly to message and call the number posted but no response. I've stopped by the store but no one is there and there are no hours posted. I'm led to conclude that the owner has stolen my three pairs of leather shoes. read more

I'd like to start by saying that despite older reviews, there is no language barrier issue anymore. The gentleman referred to in several other reviews is no longer the one who runs it. In his place is a friendly guy who speaks perfect english. That being said, I would absolutely not recommend this place. I was leaving for a trip late-morning Friday, and needed simple heels repaired on a couple of pairs of shoes. · The sign claims they open at 9am. I showed up at 8:50am on Wednesday and the guy finally rolled up at 9:30 then proceeds to take his time moving stuff around before taking my info. I told him about my trip, so he had me request next day service to be picked up on Thursday evening. (Quoted me $32) · I ended up getting out of work late, so showed up FRIDAY morning before my flight to pick them up. After waiting 2 minutes while the guy texted at the front desk without even a "hello, one moment please". They had not even been started and needed to be searched for. They were clearly marked for pickup on Thursday and yet- a day late- they had not been started. Guy started to tell me about his other business he runs and how things get mixed up. He asked for half an hour to do them even though he knew i was trying to get to the airport. Fine I guess... · I came back in 30 mins and they were done, just a not-great, quick job. I am rung up and asked to still pay normal price!!! NORMAL PRICE for shoes which WEREN'T EVEN DONE a day late, were a rushed job, and for which I stood around waiting not one day- but TWO. RIDICULOUS. As if we were robots, he could not seem to understand why that seemed a bit unfair to me and countered "I brushed the suede on the one pair of heels- that's extra- i didn't need to do that." UHHHH, that was your choice and, frankly, I didn't ask for that and would have rather just gotten my shoes back! He ended up taking $2 off. Absolutely ridiculous that he could feel good about that. Other not great things: See image for the super sticky stickers put all over my shoes, which needed to be removed with remover! Also, the job was really not great at all. Rambo did a great job on my shoes. He assessed the damage to the shoes and suggested the right fix for the shoes. A whole new sole would have cost more than the shoes actual value so he was able to sew in the old sole and fix it as needed. I appreciated the honesty and the timely manner he got in done in. He even had to call to remind me they were done.It took less than a week. They look amazing. Almost better than new because they are broke in. Doctor Martins can look too fresh for my person style right outta the box so I'm really happy he was able to save my old trusty ones with out costing me an arm and a leg. read more

Okay, the deal is that mr k doesn't speak English very well but is super nice if you make any attempt to speak Korean and be polite. I went in with a pair of very expensive leather shoes that had a really bad, deep scratch on the front. All I did was follow the advice of an earlier reviewer and say hello in Korean, mr k laughed, took my shoes from me and fixed them on the spot free of charge! I walked out of the shop 5 minutes later with a smile on my face. I have had shoes re healed here in the past as well and he did a good job but was not very polite then. The secret is to be deferential and speak some Korean. The guy does great work for a good price you just have to approach him in the right way. read more

I took in 2 pair of Johnston and Murphy shoes which had already been refinished several times with leather soles, but I needed rubber grips for walking around the city and riding my scooter. In addition to being a shoe place, they copy keys here - that's what I came for. I walked in, raised my key, and the old Korean man who runs the shop immediately took it from my hand and proceeded to copy it. No shuffling through key blanks, no questions (in fact, no words at all), no "it will be ready in 5-10 minutes" - just instant service for $1.75. I was literally in and out within ~20-30 seconds. Since I was ready to go when I walked in the door, he took care of me while a woman who was there first worked on getting her key off her keyring. I don't know about his shoe services... but good lord, if you need a house key copied, this is the place! Ah and the old man *really* lit up when my girlfriend thanked him and politely said goodbye in Korean. Have you ever felt like you might be taking advantage of someone because they don't understand how valuable their product or service is? Well this place is so good and so fast and so cheap, I almost feel guilty. I used to go to UNION STREET SHOE REPAIR where the work was great but the service wasn't always very friendly and it was about 8 times the price. Sometimes I felt judged by the partying that had happened in my patent leather pumps. But with Mr. K, I don't think he cares how hard my shoes party. He's down to replace my heel and take his $10 with a smile. Maybe he would judge me more if he spoke English, but I'm going to pretend he secretly knows what's up and has my back... or my heel as the case may be. I brought two pairs of shoes, one for polish and one for heel replacement and polish and he replace them for far less money than it would have cost to have them resoled by the original manufacturer. They fixed my favorite pair of boots in 24 hours for $15 and were even open on Christmas Eve so I could go pick them up in time to wear Christmas day!! I came home and started making a pile of shoes I wanted stretched or adjusted in little ways. Come tomorrow, I'm marching right back in there and getting all my shoe issues resolved. At first I went to the place on Union street, he quoted me at $90 JUST for the heels and was a whiny jerk. Though I hear great things about the quality, the most expensive pair of shoes I own are only $200, so why would I pay half the price just to maintain them?? It pains me to write this review because I'm so sad about what happened to my shoes. I'm okay with choppy communication and language barriers. That has meant excellent work, pricing, and turnaround time in the past. This time it meant destroying brand new $600 boots. I brought a pair of new booties where one was missing the flap to the zipper. I figured it was a simple fix to add 2 matching flaps to each zipper. I did everything I could to communicate things clearly. He replaced the entire zippers with HUGE ones and stretch the ankles significantly. I'd never buy them if this was how they fit! It still kills me to think of what I had and how much I lost. If the language barrier wasn't an issue, I wouldn't feel partially responsible for burning up my favorite $600. Lesson learned: consider a higher fee if it means clear communication. You're saving money in the long-run. read more

The heel of my favorite peep-toe stilettos had gotten worn out from all the walking I've done since moving to this city, and I needed a quick fix so I could use the shoes at a friend's wedding. The man behind the counter made me think of an endearing old grandpa so I immediately took a liking to him. He didn't seem to speak much English though, but between pointing, nodding and some one-word answers on his part, we agreed on what needed to be done and when it would be ready. I dropped off my shoes on a Saturday afternoon, and got them back in tip-top shape by Tuesday for only $10, which seemed like a pretty good deal to me. He seems to get a lot of business out of his tiny shop, because the shelves and floor were piled high with shoes that either needed to be repaired or were waiting to be picked up. And he couldn't find my shoes in the clutter when I went to pick them up, which nearly sent me into a panic. But with his kind, smiling demeanor I found it hard to hold that against him. Good thing I had left my shoes in a j.crew bag instead of putting it in one of his generic plastic bags, so I stepped behind the counter and found them for him. Purely because of the language barrier, I would probably think twice if I needed some complicated work done, but for quick repairs I would recommend this place. But it may be a good idea to bring your shoes in a unique, brightly colored bag so it's easy to find in the mess in case he gets confused again. read more

KB is an absolute expert at repairing shoes and leather goods, and, in addition, he is a friendly, bright, and gregarious presence. His work is careful and meticulous and highly competent, his prices are reasonable, and he works quickly. What an asset to the neighborhood. It's unfortunate to see this place in their downward spiral with the new ownership. The old owner did some really quality work. The new owners are disorganized, don't have the work done on time (they told me 7 days, I showed up and he hadn't even started on my shoes after a week) Plus, he was a creep and made me uncomfortable. Last time I was in, he spent nearly 30 minutes trying to find my shoes because it was such a cluster behind the counter. A friend of mine took a brand new, very expensive pair of suede shoes in for weatherproofing, and they came back essentially ruined - the material looked like an oil slick and they were a completely different color than when she dropped it off. It was 3.5x more than his quote. When I asked him why so much, he couldn't explain why. I will never come here again. The area is sketchy, I barely felt safe in daylight. I dropped off two pair of shoes yesterday afternoon, wasn't sure if the owner understood me, and literally 20 hours later, my shoes are like new AND polished for a reasonable price! I have to be honest, I've never visited a cobbler before, however, I brought in two pair of tattered shoes and before I knew it, came home with two brand-new looking pair for only $20. I love this place! The only reason I did not give K Shoe Service five stars is because communicating was a bit awkward. I tried calling before I visited the store to check for their hours and was not able to get through and there's no recording. Also, while there, I guess I had wanted Mr. K to smile a bit more and tell me he knew what I was talking about. But, hey, he's terrific at what he does! Mr K did a fabulous job on replacing handles on an Italian tote bag I had. I got some nylon webbing and he did it so well, somebody else there couldn't see what had been fixed. He loves to tease too--and clearly understands much more than he speaks. On time and exactly what he said it would cost. Cant recommend him highly enough !
