Center for dermatology in Arcadia has a great staff. But they're billing department is deplorable. They do not bill properly for wellness skin checks and they inflate the bill for the insurance company and add procedures that weren't even done. I went in for a yearly skin check, which is supposed to be 100% covered but they build it as a diagnostic versus a wellness check. They get more money this way so that's what they do. Other than their billing department being completely fraudulent everything else is good. That's why they have two stars. having to go back-and-forth with my insurance carrier which is a PPO, and their billing department makes them two stars rather than four stars. I was recommended to Dr. Chi by my GP I went to Dr. Chi to see if I could get help with sun spots on my skin and also see about acne scaring on my back. I saw Dr. Chi about three times a few years back mostly for acne and antiaging advice. She seemed knowledgeable and a no-nonsense dermatologist. I appreciated that she warned me against overpaying for fancy products available on the market when there were cheaper alternatives available. However, I was put off by the fact that after a three week wait for the appointment, during the actual visits she seemed a bit rushed. Once she actually cut me off and told me to make another appointment during which she would answer my question. It made me feel like a number and like I was dealing with a greedy/overbooked doctor. Needless to say, I never went back after that. I think if I wait so long for an appointment with a doctor in a private practice and pay out of my own pocket, I deserve to have my questions answered in one visit. I'm 35 and obsessed with my skin. I have been blessed with generally good skin and a youthful look [this is not me bragging], but as we all know when you enter the most awesomeness of the 30's a few things seems to swing the other way. One of those things is the skin elasticity. I started to notice those, once cute freckles now looking like not so cute age spots all over my cheeks, along with the new discovery of the fine lines all around the eyes appearing with the call for fierce attention. I didn't even have to be making an expression, there were just lines all the time. That's when I decided to call Dr. Chi. I picked Dr. Chi because she looks really, really great with great skin. She is representing her craft. And when I met her, I was very impressed with her warm nature and compassion for my skincare needs. I was a bit apprehensive about sounding vain, but Dr. Chi completely understood where I was coming from and suggested treatments that were effective and non-invasive. My very first visit consisted of a laser treatment that completely zapped all my age spots off my cheeks. I went in on a Thursday, went to work on Friday with some redness, but nothing a bit of makeup can't cover up and by Monday, I was age spot-less. And very happy. I actually didn't realize how bad it was until they were gone. I have since been to Dr. Chi for another laser treatment for my fine lines, which also was very effective, but truthfully, the results are not immediate with this one. The best part was that this treatment also shrunk my pore. It was amazing. I didn't even know I wanted my pores shrunk until I saw that you can't even see them now. Dr. Chi has examined my moles for cancer as well. Fortunately all my past sun soaking has not done any serious damage. And I have to mention, Dr. Chi got me hip to this sunscreen that I wasn't keen on at the beginning because I was so use to the cheap Neutrogena greasy stuff, I didn't understand this new smooth, velvety texture, but love it so much now. Often times, I'll apply the tinted sunscreen and skip all foundation, apply some blush, mascara and I'm out the door. I don't have anything negative to say, although I have heard getting an appointment can be challenging. Well, I say, push on and get whatever date/time she has free, you skin will love you for it. One more thing, I have been to several other dermatologists. Dr. Paik in Koreatown I really, really disliked and would consider suing if I were that kind of person. The others in Beverly Hill and Santa Monica, I will not name because they were decent. I'd like to end on a positive note... Dr. Chi, although may be far for some is very much worth the drive. This office is a joke. Typical younger females handling the receptionist desk with stank attitude and providing responses in a manner that makes you feel like the idiot. Well, I don't know the answer hence, I was asking simple questions. Forgive me if I do not know the medical terminology. I made an appointment to get this eczema I have checked out as the rash became harder to bear during the winter season. First visit, I met the male doctor who prescribed me a cream. The doctor was very knowledgeable and already knew how I was feeling prior to me expressing my concerns. The cream he prescribed worked wonders, and still had two refills. Anyway, I'm sure I can get this cream prescribed to me from any other doctor I see. Point is, when my refills were up, I needed a new prescription. I called the receptionist asking if she can ask my doctor to write me a new prescription, same as the first. Of course they couldn't do that. So, I had to make an appointment to visit the office and this time was a female doctor, so she can diagnose my symptoms. She didn't seem genuine with me but I guess I was being straightforward and had requested that she write me the same prescription. I'm fine, I just want another prescription with max refills (which is at most 3). Bottom line, I paid about 80 bucks for a 10 minute office visit, for a new prescription, just to bring back to my local pharmacy. Called to make an appointment today. Was told she only accepts Medicare.I have PPO insurance, and am opening for PPO is six months from now. When asked why--was told, "she just wants it that way". Went today and Karina in the front said they no longer take my insurance. I have PPO. All of a sudden my insurance is out of network. When it was asked when I made the appointment. She said they check insurance when you get to your appointment not before. So for everyone that it doesn't check the morning of you may just waste your time. I went to Dr Chi for my acne problem, I was disappointed because she's not really listen and explain the treatment that I will be getting. I have to find out myself by calling the nurse. After 5 treatments I was billed by the office. Which was from the beginning I was told the procedure will be covered through Medicare. When I called Medicare, I was told the service is not covered since the doctor office send a claim for the first service. And yet they keep doing the service without telling me. And now they billed me for all the services. Yes they give me discount but should they told the patient before hand?. And for all this mistakes, the manager office Melisa never apologize. I went to Dr. Chi to address acne scarring. I purchased a package of four fraxel treatments and I'm very happy with the result. Dr. Chi is a warm, caring, smart doctor who really got to know me. She made me feel at ease from the moment I met her. In addition, she gave me confidence that she knows what's best for her clients. She has a critical eye and was able to get me the results that I wanted. That professionalism translates to her staff as well. From the front desk to the nursing staff, everyone in the office is pleasant, prompt (!) and are communicative in terms of what I should expect for each visit.
