Yes I did have to wait several months to get an appointment but in my recent experience that's just the way it goes in our current medical system. I've also had bad experiences in the past with dermatologists. However, Dr Carl Chang is definitely one of the nicest men I have ever met. He was unbelievably kind and polite. He made me feel so comfortable and cared for. And that goes for his nurse, Ivy also. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Plus I had no problem with his front office. Dr. Dong Chang had been my doctor for 30 years before he retired last year, he was the best. I had a lump on my back and decided to see his son, Carl. I was told he was booked until March, so I agreed to see the physician assistant because I just wanted it take care of. I don't live in the area anymore, so I needed to take time off work and travel at least 80 miles each way. I was told it was a cyst and the PA gave me options, so I chose to have it drained they told me they didn't have time to perform that type of procedure at that time and was told to come back. Dr. Dong was great at doing what was necessary each time I visited and I never had to return for anything. I seriously feel like they just stole my money and I will never go back! I have never seen a dermatologist in my life. But the redness in my face hasn't improved and yet is more red than before. I always thought it was the sun but I can't hide indoors forever. I also used many different anti-redness products and none of it has helped. Since the pandemic, I have constantly been at home and it made me realize that it's not the sun after all. So it was time to finally see a dermatologist. I was highly recommended to go visit Dr Carl Chang. His schedule is quite booked like 1.5 months to 2 months in advance. So that gave me reassurance he's a good doctor. But on the flip side, I had to be patient if I really want to see him. You do have a option to do a zoom appointment which the wait time is shorter than in person. I was skeptical on having a zoom appointment will make any sense since the doctor will need to examine my face closely. But the quick fix is that they do ask that you take a few close shots of your face prior to the zoom appointment which made me feel better he will at least take a look before we actually meet via zoom. Dr Chang is not the usual doctor you will meet. He is quite compassionate, warm, caring, and just a very humorous doctor. I had quite a few laughs and enjoyed my time with him. But at the same time he's very professional and does address all of my concerns. So I was quite comfortable and followed his instructions on how to use the prescription. Within a few weeks I already see the results and my face was 80-90% less red than it was before. I was so amazed with the result and felt so much better leaving the house with my bear skin. I feel more confident and less self conscious whenever I am around other people. Now i'm going back to see if he can help reduce my wrinkles. In addition with the results, Dr Chang made it clear that cost is also important. If any medication he prescribed is out of my budget, there are many other alternatives you can prescribed or send me to a different pharmacy. So the medication he prescribed was $120 with insurance at CVS vs a online pharmacy was only $35!!!! What a huge difference, right? I was so pleased that Dr Chang also cares about us and our pockets. So i can't ask for anything more for Dr Chang. Thank you Dr Chang for all that you do. I will be recommending all my friends to see you going forward. read more

I wanted to have a couple of moles removed. Appointments with the dermatologist at my primary care were almost 2 months off. I was given a referral and got in pretty quickly. When i called to make my appointment, the guy I spoke to sounded like he didn't really want to be there. When I arrived, the front office staff wasn't very receptive. The Dr is great, sense of humor, took his time, and answered my questions. After the examination, I was told that they would have to get another authorization to remove them. That was a month ago. I have yet to hear from anyone. I called this morning and left a message to disregard any further office visits or authorizations. I've kept my original appointment. read more

this 5 star review is for Amanda...an office worker in the office!! i wrote a scathing review below ...but now I want to THANK AMANDA so much for stepping in and getting a new, lower-cost medication after waiting and going back and forth from CVS that they faxed to Dr office that they didn't get a fax!!!! GEEEEEZE....i was furious!! .THREE WEEKS LATER... I was lucky enough to get Amanda on the phone!!!!! she went beyond being helpful. she checked around different pharmacies to to get coupons and lowest cost for substitute medication!!! I give the clinic 3-star only because the front desk is very incompetent and impatient, and they will surely ruin the clinic if Dr. Chang keeps them there long. Especially the male receptionist, the rudest one I ever talked to in terms of clinic visits. If anyone bothers to look over those reviews, it is crystal clear that there are some serious issues with the front desk, and I believe most problems are with the male receptionist. I think Dr. Chang should've let go of him long, long, long time ago. Regarding visit experiences, we've seen Dr. Lilian hwang and both Dr. Chang(s). They did not solve my son's rash problem after two visits, but all doctors are very polite, very patient, and very knowledgeable. I rate those doctors 5-stars but I sincerely wish they would have that male receptionist fired. read more

First visit here. Was already a bit nervous about making a MD visit. Walked up to the door on by the parking lot. Says ring bell for service, rang the bell. Nothing else is posted, doesn't say "employee only" or "service entry". Someone opens the door and walks off. Walked in and there stands a older lady. Says a absolutely nothing but stares at us like she's about to fight us. I say hello, then she speaks: You have appointment? I say yes.... She turns, walks away and says that is not the door, the door is in the front! Wth kind of service is this? Something is seriously wrong with her demeanor and attitude. Dr. Chang is a very compassionate, caring and patient doctor who will take the time to address any and all issues in a single visit. My father is 91 years old and has many skin issues. Yesterday, we saw him for a facial growth, buttocks rash, and feet skin issues. Dr. Chang took time to exam each issue, and explained thoroughly the diagnosis and treatment. He offered same day treatment to remove a growth on my dad's face, suggesting a cold solution spray that would remove the growth. He explained the spray is cold and can sting at times, and then he took his time to spray the solution, making sure my dad was comfortable at all times, asking him if he was okay, or if he was in any pain at all. Next, he addressed the severe skin peeling on my dads feet. Dr. Chang scraped off some of the peeling skin onto a glass and not sure how he tested it, but he came back with a diagnosis of a fungus and set up a treatment plan. Again, on the same day. Dr. Chang showed so much care and respect towards my dad and me, always listening and taking his time. His staff is great too. Marlene, his assistant is very calm and caring. The front office staff is very efficient. I had asked to be notified if they could get my dad in sooner when I make the appointment initially and they actually called me back to let me know they had a cancellation to get my dad in sooner. I've been coming to this derm for a couple years now, and he always gets the job done. There's actually two practicing derms at this location (Dong and his son Carl I believe). Dong is very straight forward and tells it to you like it is, which I appreciate greatly. Rates are a bit pricey, even with insurance. He makes sure to give you lots of refills on your prescription as they should be incorporated into your daily skincare routine. No complaints, just great service and decent bedside manner! read more

For selfish reasons, I'm usually hesitant to yelp about when I find a stellar doctor...because they get too popular and then it'll take forever to get an appt. ;-) However, my 9 year old daughter liked Dr. Chang so much and she insisted that I yelp about him, practically grabbing my phone from me...so here is her 5 star review: "Dr. Chang is very funny and he made me feel comfortable. He told me everything that was going to happen. And asked if it was okay with me before he did anything. I liked that he talked to me and not just to my mom." I might add that Dr. Chang's warm, humorous bed side manner put us both at ease. He's a great communicator, explaining what to expect before he did any inspecting, reassuring my daughter that she would not be getting any injections or anything painful that day and explaining at every step of the way what he was seeing and his assessments and why...I think because of this, I felt trust and confidence in his diagnosis. He encouraged us to ask anything, kept checking in and patiently answered all our questions, leaving no stone unturned. Also a quick draw with the cellphone, he showed us internet pics to thoroughly explain & give examples, and explained the "abcde"s of skin cancer. I felt like I'd gotten a course in Melanoma 101. Dr.Carl Chang might one of the most enthusiastic doctors I have ever met : ) And he gave me one of the most comprehensive consults I have ever received. We covered all the basis in my 30 minute visit. This doctor is personable, professional, energetic, and certainly thorough. I feel like all my questions were answered, all alternatives discussed, and the best treatment chosen. The office staff seemed pretty friendly as well. All I can say is wow. The reviews you see here don't do this doctor and the office workers enough justice. Normally , when I have to go to the doctor , it's always uncomfortable and seldom even a pleasant experience. Upon arrival I was greeted by friendly office workers who took care of me and got me signed in quickly. Then I went into the room with a nurse who was also very friendly and made me feel at ease. Then I had the privilege to meet with Dr Carl Chang. He has a huge personality and a great sense of humor. He immediately sets you at ease and then wows you once more with his examination and the way he explains everything. This was a really great experience and I give the highest recommendation to anyone who needs a dermatologist to come and see Dr Chang. Dr. Dong Chang Jr is amazing. I had a rash on my face that kept getting worse. They got me in the next day and Dr. Chang cured the rash with a prescription ointment. He explains things well, goes over the treatment plan, and is polite and professional while doing so. Lilian the PA is also excellent. She usually does my yearly skin checks. read more

*THE 5 STARS ARE FOR DR. CARL CHANG ONLY. (not my overall experience: receptionists, etc.) Let me just say, I called here to make an appointment last month and the woman who picked up the phone was rude and abrupt. She said they didn't take my school insurance and I thought to myself, "That's weird; every other doctor takes my insurance. I've never had a problem..". She said I would have to be a cash patient if I still wanted to make the appointment. She kept freakin' cutting me off during our conversation and finally I just gave up and decided not to schedule an appointment at all! I immediately started looking up other dermatologists in the area, but after talking to my mom, she still recommended I see Dr. Chang and just try and call again. After my experience on the phone with the receptionist, I didn't even wanna call back. A receptionist is a patient's first impression of the doctor; that is the person all your patients have to deal with first before they even see you. Are you sure you want someone so unfriendly to be answering your phone and dealing with potential patients?! Anyway, my mom INSISTED I see Dr. Carl Chang because he's THAT good. I told her I didn't even want to call back and deal with that woman again, so she called and made the appointment for me. (and told Dr. Chang about my experience) Today I went to my appointment. I arrived 30 minutes early to supposedly fill out paperwork. First off, the older Hispanic receptionist here was rude as hell. I have a feeling this is the one I talked to when I first called. I scheduled an appointment with CARL CHANG and she said I scheduled it with Dr. Dong Chang, his father. I didn't even know Dong practiced here. I was like "Who the heck is Dong? I've never heard of him in my life. I thought this was just Carl's office." and she tells me that she doesn't have anything for Carl for another month. (I've already waited a week to get this appointment so I'm already aggravated.) No one even asked me which Dr. Chang I wanted to schedule an appointment with. If you know there are two, and I ask to schedule something with Dr. Chang, wouldn't you naturally ask which one instead of assuming?? SO ANNOYING. The only person who was helpful was Vanessa. She came and talked to me and was so much more accommodating and sweet. Vanessa knew what the problem was and took care of it right away. She even called my insurance to make sure they took it because the receptionist wanted to charge me $95 because she assumed that they didn't take my school insurance. (When she could've just called and checked.) My copay ended up being $20...so I guess they DO take my insurance. I ended up seeing Dr. Dong Chang today, but the next time I come back, I'll make sure to tell the receptionist CARL CHANG. (because they probably won't have the common sense to ask me which Dr. Chang again) I'm only giving a 5 star review because I got a call from Dr. Carl Chang the same day at around 5pm. He called to apologize for everything that happened and said he would be more than happy to schedule me in next week. He was so courteous, polite, apologetic and even funny! I haven't even met the guy yet and I'm giving him a 5 star review because I can tell he cares about his patients and their experience at his office. I can see why my mom insisted that he be my dermatologist. We talked on the phone for about half an hour and I couldn't believe he actually took the time out to contact me and make things right. I'm glad I didn't judge this office based on their receptionists, because if I did, I would never come back. I will come back for Dr. Carl Chang though and hopefully my visit won't be as bad as what I experienced today. (*cough* hire new receptionists *cough*) read more

To update my review 4/29/15: Dr. Chang didn't resolve any of my issues street seeing him for two years. I had to visit another Derm and surprisingly my new Derm ran the same test and she was able to find the problems right away. I regret not seeing other doctors sooner for my problems. Old review: Dr. Chang is the best Dermatologist I haven't seen for a while. He spent almost an hour going over my concerns and gave me solution to each of the problems. His rate is also reasonable for people that don't have insurance. 2 things that I need to point out: * Impossible to schedule any urgent appointments when you feel ill * Doctor is very busy so if you do have any urgent concerns better luck next time Five stars for the doctor and minus one star for the appointment. read more

Dr. Carl Chang is fantastic!! If you like to have a wealth of information from someone who is like the Energizer Bunny of doctors, he's your guy. Being that acne is something that affects many folks' self-confidence (myself included), Dr. Carl never makes you feel uncomfortable. He is patient, well informed, super nice and funny. He cares about your wait time too, which is rare for a doctor's office. My pharmacist even complimented him on his promptness in completing paperwork for the insurance company. What else can I say? The 5 stars is also for JUST Dr Carl Chang. If it wasn't for him, the billing girl would get ZERO stars. First time I went was for a huge skin tag. Long story short.... The dr only charged me for office consult. I had to argue with the insurance biller about what she charged me, even though I had insurance. She ended up charging me for the whole bill. I pulled the physician assistant over and verified that dr was only charging me for office consult and she said yes. The biller wouldn't believe her or I, so the dr was passing, I literally grabbed him and asked him to clarify. Of course he did. The biller was mad. She refunded me one charge, but insisted I had to pay the WHOLE office visit. I did, just to shut her up. Insurance ended up paying and when I got that EOB, I called biller lady back and requested refunded due to insurance paid 3 months ago!! That was a year ago. NEVER did I think that I would be back. But.... 2nd time around. Here we goooooo! Called to make an appt. said no openings til the end of the month. I told her my cyst would have a brain and eyes before I got to see the dr. I don't think she thought that was funny. She transferred me to another girl. Girl#2 says if you want to see a physician assistant..I can take u in Monday. Yay!!! Come Monday, girl calls and leaves a message to confirm appt. so I call back and lady on phone says we do not have you at said time. Are u sure u have an appt? Um, yes.... ****** called me this morning to confirm, I'm just calling back. 10 minutes later, lady finally finds me. I go to said appt. this time they only asked me for my co-pay. I got to go in, PA, Lilian, was great! I could see she shadowed dr Carl very well. Learns from the best!!! I didn't think I would see dr Carl, but he was called in for consult and options. Dr Carl is VERY passionate about his job! You can tell he LOVES what he does! He is very animated and energetic. Loooooove that he is in complete details. Even hand drew pictures of my cyst, the procedure of the removal, etc. Did I say....VERY detailed oriented. Spent 25 minutes going over EVERY detail! read more

After finding out my old dermatologist would no longer see patients, I was in search for a new one. I have seen Dong Chang (the dad) once before but did not like the idea of having to wait for more than an hour even with an appointment. I then found out they moved to a new location with more staff. So I decided to give them another try. I requested to see Dr. Carl Chang (the son). I figured there would be less waiting since he came on board not that long ago. hehehe... After arriving at the new office, I still had to wait a bit, but at least not an hour for sure. Dr. Carl Chang was really nice. He really took the time to explain EVERYTHING to me. I started going to Carl's father Dong when I was in middle school. My sister most recently tried out Dr. Carl last week and he came highly recommended. She did warn me about him though. She said he looked exactly like the Asian guy from the Hangover & Knocked Up. Sure, sister okay you exaggerate. As soon as he walked in, I thought holy *&^5 it is him! Not only does he look like the guy, but he sounds like him too! You know that part in Knocked Up when he asks Katherine Heigl's character if she smokes cigarettes? Well I had a similar moment when he said, "Lauren what are we looking at today? You have some concerns? Let me get your chart" All while staring straight at you waiting for you to answer after he shot off 20 questions at you. Once my head stopped spinning I made the decision that Dr. Carl was the man and I would not be returning to his father as a patient. Dr. Carl was clearly knowledgeable and attentive. He also doesn't try to give you 1,000 prescriptions for lotions and creams that are expensive. As an added bonus to seal the deal, he's a Trojan. Fight on. read more

The doctor looks busy and maybe the front desk wants to get rid of some business for him. They are very "nice" to their boss. It is no surprise that Dr. Carl Chang has such great reviews on Yelp. He really is a great dermatologist. He will tell you what medicines he will prescribe you, tell you how many times a day/duration, and make sure you know of the side effects. He also gives tons of samples and coupons to save money. Dr C. Chang is definitely a great dermatologist, very knowledgeable with all questions/concerns and has great bedside manner. However, the wait times at his office are horrendous. The last time I went, I ended up going there early and had to wait another 30+ min over after my appointment time before he showed up (busy with another patient). Afterwords, he was very knowledgeable in answering all my concerns and questions. However, just to note, he may be backed to back on appointments a little too much because during the meeting, just as I thought he was stepping out for a moment (as I still had questions), the nurse actually told me he was done with our appointment. At that time, I told the nurse, hold on - I still had a few more questions as I wasn't done. She then had this look of uncomfortableness and said I should make another appointment to see him. To then which I got annoyed since I took time off from work just to make this appointment, which I had to wait and then some. But, just as I was about to leave, Dr. Chang reappeared and told me to head back to the room since he heard I had more questions/concerns from the nurse and would come back to me after dealing with his next patient if I could wait a bit. After that, when he did come back, he made sure to ask if I had any more questions or concerns prior to leaving again. Overall, I will continue to return, however, their office might want to look into scheduling their appointments a little bit better since if they are always behind or cutting appointments short, that's a quick way to lose patients who are trying to be patient. read more

Dr. Chang is passionate about what he does and you can definitely tell by his energy when you meet him. He is very thorough in explaining prognosis and your condition. He answers a lot of questions and is patient. I think his attention to details makes him a better dermatologist than others I have seen. It is a little pricey and he does not take insurance. I think you get what you pay for, he prescribes things tailored to your specific condition. I received 5 different meds for my condition whereas I got only 2 when I went to other dermatologists. So far, my condition has been improving in comparison to the others I have seen. read more

If I could give less stars I would. This office is extremely unprofessional. When I first went in, the receptionist gave me my new patient paperwork to fill out and had told me right then and there that upon checking my insurance they found out the cost of my consultation. As I was okay with the price I pulled out my card to pay and the receptionist had stopped me and told me I would need to pay after my visit. After waiting over an hour, I was finally able to see the doctor where I was told I would have to come back in order to get my prescription (which was the ONLY reason I went in) again, I was understanding and didn't mind having to come back. As I was checking out, a staff member had told me the price of my visit which was significantly more than the receptionist had told me. I brought it to the staff members attention that I was told a different amount when the doctor turned around and told me "not to listen to the front office because they don't know what they're talking about" apparently joking......as I didn't want to argue, I paid the amount and figured there was some sort of mix up that I could call later to sort out as the whole front office had already gone home for the day. I ended up calling and speaking with the biller as well as the office manager where I was basically told "Sorry there is nothing we can do" which is completely wrong. After working in a dermatology office for several years, I know VERY well that there is something that can be done, but they were not willing to be accommodating for THEIR MISTAKE. SO SO WRONG to up the prices without notifying the patient or at least letting the patient know that the prices may vary. Worst experience at a doctors office ever. Do not come here if you don't want to be overcharged or be surprised with various prices. read more
