We came here after reading good things about the place and had quite an enjoyable experience. I have to say that the fish here was really good and that's exactly what you should stick with! And as others have said, the service here is very friendly. We first walked in and the guy there introduced their menu to us very thoroughly. We ordered the Georgian Bay fish and chips as well as their jerk chicken. The fish from the fish and chips were really good. Extremely flakey, very light, and not too oily. Unfortunately I think it was just a tad on the underdone side as also evident by the fries also being a bit raw tasting. Some of the fries were a bit hard and uneven and it wasn't the most crisp. It's not too big of a problem but we came when a huge tour group came, so it's not too hard to imagine that things were a bit rushed when frying. The jerk chicken was moreso a barbeque chicken with some jerk sauce. It wasn't bad but I'd definitely stick with the fish here. The best part of this was that it came with Cajun corn which was wonderfully spiced and buttered. Jerk chicken is nothing like jerk chicken (if you have tried jerk chicken in Toronto or somewhere authentic, you will know). A little on the dry side, coated with some spicy sauce on the outside, lacking in flavor. The corn was spot on though, my favourite of the entire meal! All the staff are really friendly and into their job, singing to the music, cheerful, dressed up as pirates. Nice environment, decorated as if you are on a pirate ship. This review is a little overdue: My fam & I went here after a long day of doing hella fun activities! It was hard to yelp anything nearby because there's really little option of anything in Tobermory so I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best about this "ALL YOU CAN EAT FISH & CHIPS PLACE" And to our surprise, our exhausted & hungry selves were greeted by a VERY cheerful Pirate! They also have a Georgian Bay whitefish, fried shrimps, etc. but the all-you-can-eat-version is a still-succulent Alaskan whitefish. Great value with the bottomless offering, but I'm sure the other stuff is also delish. I semi-regretted not ordering the local Georgian Bay whitefish, but come on! Couldn't resist the volume. The fries were crispy and McDonald's-like, in a good way. The fish that I had held on to a perfectly light batter and was super juicey inside. The fish curls into itself for some pieces, and it's a pleasure to rip it apart with your hands and a fistful of lemon. Worst fish and chips I've ever had in my life. We went because of the 4-star average and delicious-looking pictures on Yelp, but the haddock was like someone cut the sole off of a shoe and fried it. The fish was so curled up and tough that we could barely chomp off a bite; inedible, really. The staff was friendly enough, but my wife and I each took a bite and couldn't finish. More like a 4.5, but after several visits, the fried items (read: half the menu) are just a bit too greasy, and maybe I'm gettin' old, but the last meal lingered a little too long in the form of acid at 3 AM ... Having said that, this is the first stop we always make when we visit Tobermory. It's located right on the edge of the downtown section and you can't miss the banners and pirate decor. The staff all wear pirate gear and up until this year, there were a couple of regular staff who were totally in character, and really pulled it off. (This year's staff are just as good but I guess you miss your original great impressions.) It's a great and friendly atmosphere for kids and adults alike. If you've never had fried pickles, this is where to try them. The pickles are nicely seasoned with a good amount of dill and the batter isn't too thick. The pickles have an almost kosher dill like taste to them. You'll never want to settle for Harvey's lame-ass imitations instead. You get 8 good-sized quarter dill spears for $8.95 if memory serves. They are nice, large spears and just the right amount of that tasty dill batter. (You'll probably have to pass if sodium is a problem for you. My condolences.) The dips are Kraft packets of Ranch for the pickles and Tartar for the fish - no sin where the values are this good and no one is pretending everything down the sauce is from scratch. We had the Georgian white fish and chips dinner. The fish fillet is beautiful, tender and flaky, well cooked, but just a bit too greasy this time. Fries also a bit heavy but proper ones, not the dried out char sticks you sometimes get at fish and chips places. It's an open air covered patio. (There is an indoor restaurant area adjacent to the patio, but never once have I ever seen it used. The bathrooms are in there and fully functional, so I know it's not a figment of my imagination, but whatever for or whenever the dining room is ever used, is up to my imagination.) The blue and white wooden tables and benches are nice and solid, and I love that you get a full complement of cutlery, condiments that include vinegar, and NAPKINS in the basket on each table. Please God would other restaurants take note and stop chintzing with the one-napkin-only-around-the-one-cutlery-setting practice. Thank you Lee's for putting them out with the rest of the condiments and accoutrements! Drinks are canned/bottled, no refills for soft drinks (I guess that's the trade-off for the all-you-can-eat fish and chips option) so at $1.79/can of soft drink with the salty food, you can easily tip the till with beverages. If you like your beer, they offer a 5 bottles/$25 Land Shark beer, attractively served in a tin bucket brought to your table. Will keep coming here for first stop on future trips, mateys! read more

The waiter was extremely attentive, came back to our table to check every 3 mins. He's very enthusiastic too! The food is top notch. We got all you can eat fish and chips for $16.95 per person! Seems like all there is to eat around here is fish and chips so gotta do it right! They make it with fresh caught fish and is fried fresh and so perfectly tender. Ambiance here is great fun as well! The Alaskan whitefish is fattier than Georgian Bay whitefish so it fills you up faster. Loved my whole experience here. We came for the AYCE fish and chips. This is my second time in Tobermory and the last time I saw this place I wanted to try it but the person I was with didn't. This time is was adamant I was going to try it. I enjoyed the food. I knew going in that it will not be the top grade fish. I mean it is AYCE so let's be reasonable. The fish was light and the fries were good. What I liked the most was the AYCE was for the fish so they don't force piles of fries with only a little bit of fish. This is the most welcoming pirate's restaurant. We were 12 people group with no reservation and they serve us as fast as possible and also entertain the kids and old lady. Letting them take picture and even borrow us the hat and wheel everything for picture as well doing some serving trick. My group was so pleased with the service and the portion was so big for family that we spend $15 /person. Nice people with the spot near dock that have the view. We really like it. Service was terrible - I told the waiter that I needed to catch my cruise in 35 mins and asked how long the takeout would be ready; the receptionist said 15 mins, so I ordered and waited; after 15 mins, the waiter said they needed another 10 mins; I asked again after 10 mins and told them I would take whatever was ready because the cruise was departing soon. I don't think the waiter cared at all about my situation and had to wait another 5 mins for them to pack my food. I was 36 weeks pregnant and had to run to the dock carrying two bags of food. The food was good, but the experience was bizarre. Our server was named Matt I believe. We waited for a good bit before he showed up and when he did, we almost wish he hadn't. His priority at that point was making the entire restaurant wear pirate hats instead of getting a drink order.
