Service: 5/5, very nice and friendly staff Food: average…read moreburger/fries/fish and chips Price: around $15/person We went here during our Tobermory trip and saw this place has a very nice rating. It was pouring rain that day and we could not do camping like what we usually do, so we went out for food. To me, the service is good, friendly waitress. The restaurant is clean and modern. However, the food is like typical food-court food: burger, fries and famous Tobermory fish and chips. To me, the burger and fires are what you are expecting, like McDonald's or Costco, nothing special. The famous Tobermory fish and chips are similar to the ones I ate in Toronto. These food are comfort food. There are very few restaurants in Lion's Head. So I guess it is why it costs a bit more than Toronto. If I ever come back to Tobermory, I would not just come here. However, if you are in the area and you need to eat, with limited options, unlike some of the tourist trap in Tobermory, it is pretty safe to eat here.

Arrived from out of town after assisting a customer in the area. Asking the employee I was…read moreassisting, I discovered either this place or Rachel's to choose from. Decided this place had more things I could eat - and gluten-free to boot! Anywho, I walked in and was directed to take a seat anywhere after a few minutes. Signage to sit where you like lacking - however not the end of the world. Was just the one server running the show while I was there (hitting 18:12 only a few tables of six & one couple). I ordered the chicken mushroom burger with cheddar, and side fries and coleslaw. All was well except the coleslaw tasted a bit off. Not bad; just watered down and no flavour. I hadn't seen that they had gluten-free buns on the menu (as I originally was just going to go bun-less as they DO state the burgers are gluten-free), but upon ordering she let me know they do. If you are getting the GF bun, tis just two slices of GF bread. I'm not picky though and it still tasted good. For burger sides it was the usual soup, salad or fries w/ coleslaw (appears just the fries comes with coleslaw unless I read the menu wrong). Price was slightly below average ($11.xx before tax for my meal, minus drink). Would go again in dire need if in the area. If that happens though, I will likely try Rachel's next time for comparison. All-in-all, a great little family restaurant. ^_^

The Classic Burger is what you expect but the quality of the smash patty is really on point, the sauce, pickles, the bun are great too! The Special Burger Double Patty was even more amazing though! The owner/chef was very friendly however and everything is made fresh to order. Food: Special burger - Basically these are thin smash burgers served with cheese and caramelized onions. The meat is high quality and you can tell from the pic he gets the textbook crispy edges. I would definitely order the double for a more filling meal and only wish it had tomatoes and lettuce to brighten it up a bit. 4/5 Nashville hot chicken - I admittedly thought it seemed funny to get Nashville chicken while in Canada but this place is no joke. The dark meat chicken is juicy and tender while the freshly-fried breading is crazy crispy. The flavor is actually very accurate and the heat level is perfect, just enough to make you pause after the first bite but not enough to slow you down while you demolish it. The pickles and small amount of sauce keep everything from being too dry as well. I would gladly eat two of these for a meal, best thing on the menu 5/5 Poutine - Probably the weakest option, the larger cut makes everything more potato-y and less crispy. The curds are huge chunks which are fun to look at but they stay colder in the center and don't quite melt. The gravy has a good flavor though. 3/5 Overall this place doesn't have a large menu but what it does, it does pretty well. There are lots of burger options nearby but this is the only one serving true smash burgers and it has the best chicken sandwich in town. The portions may be a little smaller but the quality is good. I would consider this as a good lunch option.

The interior is pretty nice and cozy, with wooden-accent furniture that gives a somewhat rustic feel. They have a space extension (similar to an accessory dwelling unit) that acts as extra dining space with open windows (so it feels like you're sitting on a very covered patio with fresh air). Service was fast, but the food was just so-and-so. There were only 1-2 vegetarian items on the menu, and no vegan option (understandable, given that it's a restaurant / pub in a small cottage town). Portion size was decent. The Garden Salad was fresh and crisp. The Burrito Bowl consisted of white rice, black beans, some lettuce, shredded cheese (which you can ask to omit or have on the side), and nacho chips. It came served with salsa and sour cream on the side. It wasn't like the traditional Mexican burrito bowl you'd get at authentic Mexican restaurants, but it was okay and I was just glad to have warm food after hours of hiking in the rain and cool weather. We felt kind of rushed after eating. Right after we finished our plates, they were taken away and we were presented with the bill. This was understandable, given that they want lots of table turnaround to give room for the next customers. But when we wanted a more slowed down and relaxing sit-down experience (especially after hiking), I wished they could've let us stay and sit a bit longer without feeling rushed to get out.

On a nice day, the outdoor seating is lovely. Our server greeted us promptly and allowed us to select our table as the restaurant was not busy around 5:00 pm on a Thursday evening. She was so friendly and helpful with an engaging sense of humor. We decided to share two entree and it was more than filling. The dinner salad was so crisp and tasty, a perfect fall selection. It paired nicely with the Shepard pie. Enjoyed the upscale pub choices. The prices were in-line with the area and a bit more than what we tend to pay for a nice meal in our hometown in MI. Hey, it's vacation! On a busy summer evening, I can imagine that the wait would be long and the service might not be so relaxed. Thankful for so many tasty small restaurants in this quaint community. These people work hard and we appreciate them.

Our server, however, was extremely friendly and the reggae music playing overhead was enjoyable and not obtrusive. The food and check did take a while to come out although the restaurant was admittedly full when we came. Prices: You're looking at about $9 pints and $21-25 entrees, it's not cheap but it's also about par for the course in the area. Food: We got the lamb burger and messy fish sandwich which were both very good. The lamb burger had a decent sized patty and wasn't gamey at all. It had a good amount of tatziki and pickle onions to balance out the flavors. They do also have great burger buns that was pillowy while still having a robust golden crust that doesn't get soggy 4.5/5 The fish sandwich had a breadcrumb breading that was very crispy and served with some fresh shredded greens to lighten up an otherwise heavier sandwich. I would recommend asking for a side of tartar sauce though to give it a little more acid/tang. 4/5 We got Cajun fries and poutine fries as our sides and they are the soggier once-fried kind although they had spot-on flavors which made them still enjoyable. 4/5 We would also strongly recommend trying the blonde and amber ales which were excellent summer beers with a light body and subtle complexity. 4/5 Overall, I would say this place is a solid choice. The food has great flavor, good quality, and the atmosphere is enjoyable. The prices are expectedly high for a tourist area but not so bad that we wouldn't come back again.

I've been a long-time visitor to Tobermory and a frequent guest at the Tobermory Brewing Company…read moreover the years. I've always enjoyed the patio -- beautiful views, great food, excellent beer. But this week's experience was so frustrating and absurd that I feel compelled to leave this review. On a cold, stormy evening, my brother, a friend, and I decided to eat inside the restaurant for the first time. We were told there was a 30-minute wait for an indoor table, which was understandable. Since the patio was mostly empty (I counted 21 available seats just on the front porch), we asked the host if we could grab a few drinks outside while we waited. Here's where things went downhill -- fast. We were told we couldn't sit outside to have drinks while waiting for our indoor table -- because, according to the host, if we sat outside, we'd have to commit to eating there. Even though it was stormy. Even though only a few patio tables were taken. Even though we were just trying to spend money at the bar while we waited. When we asked what he expected us to do during the wait, he suggested we sit in our car. Sit. In. Our. Car. Instead of ordering drinks and giving the business our money. Still baffled, we walked over to the indoor bar and tried to order a flight of beer. There was only one stool free, so we stood at the bar and asked the bartender if we could order. He said yes -- then ignored us for 5-10 minutes while cleaning glasses. When we politely followed up, he suddenly changed course and said he couldn't serve us unless we were seated. We were being denied service both standing inside and sitting outside. Truly the epitome of lose-lose. At that point, my friend took the only available stool at the bar and asked, "Now can I be served?" That's when the manager finally stepped in -- not to apologize, not to offer a solution, but to tell us my friend was "making a scene." She said she didn't want a disturbance in front of other guests (who were already watching this ridiculous display) and would now allow us to sit outside with our beers while we waited. So after all that -- the refusal to let us sit on the empty patio, the rejection of service at the bar while standing, and being told to wait in our car -- we ended up exactly where we started: outside with a beer. Except now, the experience was soured beyond repair. This place is clearly being run by young, inexperienced staff following rigid, illogical policies with no common sense or customer care. I've supported this business many times over the years, but after this debacle, it's hard to justify going back. Hospitality should be about making people feel welcome -- not chasing them off with red tape and eye rolls. Do better.
