Western sandwich and chicken and rice soup
Olya S.

We were here two time as the first time I enjoyed my western sandwich. The second time we were going to have the same but for some reason the kitchen were not making it. The soup of the day was rice and chicken and it was pretty nasty. The western sandwich was good. The place looks a bit like a old fashioned diner from some black and white movie. The service the first time we were there was pretty nice with a guy. The lady on the second was was not as nice. Oh well.

When i visited this restaurant yesterday, there were flies in the restaurant, and the menu (being used as placemats) were dirty-looking and sticky. I wasn't feeling too hungry, so I ordered a hotdog ($4). Just a typical hotdog. I mean you go here to try their fish and chips, right? But we didn't feel like ordering fish and chips tonight, so my BF ordered the Roast Beef Dinner ($17.95). The dinner comes with side of mashed potatoes, your choice of soup or salad, and coffee or tea. The dinner, in my opinion, is expensive for what you get, and the meal is rather bland. Nothing too special. I just don't think the quality of the food matches what you pay for. Since I'm staying here in Tobermory for a few days, I'll probably try their breakfast next time. UPDATE: Now for their breakfast, as expected, prices are jacked up for a rather unremarkable meal. Kudos to the servers though, for breakfast they are more attentive and food was made fairly quickly. Service is pretty fast and it helps us, as we had to catch a boat ride in an hour. I'm happier today than when I had dinner here yesterday.

View of the dock from inside.

Considering Tobermory did not have many sit down food options this was not a bad spot. You can sit down in air conditioned comfort and get served breakfast lunch or dinner and have a great view of the dock. However, they only take cash so be prepared. We had brunch here and I ordered the Fish & Chips. I was disappointed with the fish, although the actual fish was fresh and tasted good was a fried piece of whitefish with very little batter and did not resemble your typical Fish & Chips at all.

Sharing plates costs money...A cup of hot water costs $1.50. You will not be informed of extra charges...So beware...
Tiffy I.

The reason for the 1 star review is the unexpected charge of $1.50 for a cup of water and the unexpected charge of $2 for sharing plates. We were NOT at all informed of the extra charges. Water from my experience was always free... Giving you sharing plates from my experience was free as well. If it isn't I feel the establishment has to let their customers know. This situation has left me feeling ripped off / scammed. Pretty ridiculous in my opinion. I would not recommend the place. It doesn't seem like it's an honest place of business. Food was nothing special. Ordered over easy eggs, but they came as sunny side up. Between 2 people we ordered a breakfast special for $10.95 consisting of 3 eggs, sausage, bacon, 2 slices of toast cut into 4 and coffee; and a tomato bacon sandwich for $5.50. Prices were average but the extra charges did not sit well with me. If there r extra charges it needs to be noted.

Plain, simple straightforward. Basic breakfast was fine. Get a flavour of local life when they're not crowded out by tourists.

Very good fish and chip, the fish is lightly breaded and not greasy. Highly recommended.

The fish is OK. However, the waitress was not very friendly and charged us $2.00 per a glass of water. Ripping off. Never go again

It was cold autumn month when we were here but they offered a dining area outside with heater. On the menu, they offered one piece fish and chips combo, or fish and shrimp combo, or chicken and back ribs at less than $25. They also offered all you can eat fish and chips at $28.99. We were pretty hungry so a few of us went with all you can eat fish and chips. The fries were mediocre but the fish was awesome. Each one piece of fish here was cut into two half pieces when they fried it. The fish was perfectly cooked and flavoured with very crispy breading with perfect thickness. The white fish tasted so fresh and soft. The owner was so nice to renew our fish a couple of times until we were full. Very satisfied with our dining experience here and strongly recommend their fish and chips.

The fish was very fresh and juicy, wrapped in a thin, crispy batter, the best fried fish I've had so far, though my limit was one fish, and I'd feel greasy after that. The fries were on the thin side; it'd be even better if they were made in authentic British style. Fried calamari was delicious. Also wanted to try their shrimp, but too bad it only came in a combo while we didn't need more fries. Their homemade IPA tasted good but was pricey - 4 cans for $35. Service was good, meeting standard expectations. Overall, it's a solid spot for fresh seafood in Tobermory. We were directed to this food truck when we checked into our hotel in Tobermory…read more It was a great find! The fish was fresh, the breading was tasty and the homemade tartar sauce was awesome. The chips were amazing as well. If this was down the road from my home, I'm sure I'd be there every week. Just a note, it is not hard miss. If headed towards Tobermory, it will be on your right shortly before you get to any of the entrances to Bruce Peninsula National Park. If headed from town, you will pass both the Cypress Lake entrances and the one just south of there (don't remember the name). Look for the Lonewolf Drive Thru sign Fish is served from around 11:30 with the last order taken at 7:30.

It took 30 minutes for them to call our number. Granted, they were pretty busy... But 30 minutes for 2 orders of fries is a little crazy. My fries were good (although not 30 minutes good) but could have been a little warmer. The person I was with said their poutine was good. I don't eat meat so this review is based solely on the fries and service. I'd still recommend checking it out for yourself! OH and the address here on Yelp didn't take us to the chip wagon. We had to continue driving until we saw it on the left hand side (leaving tobermory) which was about 7km.

Our server, however, was extremely friendly and the reggae music playing overhead was enjoyable and not obtrusive. The food and check did take a while to come out although the restaurant was admittedly full when we came. Prices: You're looking at about $9 pints and $21-25 entrees, it's not cheap but it's also about par for the course in the area. Food: We got the lamb burger and messy fish sandwich which were both very good. The lamb burger had a decent sized patty and wasn't gamey at all. It had a good amount of tatziki and pickle onions to balance out the flavors. They do also have great burger buns that was pillowy while still having a robust golden crust that doesn't get soggy 4.5/5 The fish sandwich had a breadcrumb breading that was very crispy and served with some fresh shredded greens to lighten up an otherwise heavier sandwich. I would recommend asking for a side of tartar sauce though to give it a little more acid/tang. 4/5 We got Cajun fries and poutine fries as our sides and they are the soggier once-fried kind although they had spot-on flavors which made them still enjoyable. 4/5 We would also strongly recommend trying the blonde and amber ales which were excellent summer beers with a light body and subtle complexity. 4/5 Overall, I would say this place is a solid choice. The food has great flavor, good quality, and the atmosphere is enjoyable. The prices are expectedly high for a tourist area but not so bad that we wouldn't come back again.

I've been a long-time visitor to Tobermory and a frequent guest at the Tobermory Brewing Company…read moreover the years. I've always enjoyed the patio -- beautiful views, great food, excellent beer. But this week's experience was so frustrating and absurd that I feel compelled to leave this review. On a cold, stormy evening, my brother, a friend, and I decided to eat inside the restaurant for the first time. We were told there was a 30-minute wait for an indoor table, which was understandable. Since the patio was mostly empty (I counted 21 available seats just on the front porch), we asked the host if we could grab a few drinks outside while we waited. Here's where things went downhill -- fast. We were told we couldn't sit outside to have drinks while waiting for our indoor table -- because, according to the host, if we sat outside, we'd have to commit to eating there. Even though it was stormy. Even though only a few patio tables were taken. Even though we were just trying to spend money at the bar while we waited. When we asked what he expected us to do during the wait, he suggested we sit in our car. Sit. In. Our. Car. Instead of ordering drinks and giving the business our money. Still baffled, we walked over to the indoor bar and tried to order a flight of beer. There was only one stool free, so we stood at the bar and asked the bartender if we could order. He said yes -- then ignored us for 5-10 minutes while cleaning glasses. When we politely followed up, he suddenly changed course and said he couldn't serve us unless we were seated. We were being denied service both standing inside and sitting outside. Truly the epitome of lose-lose. At that point, my friend took the only available stool at the bar and asked, "Now can I be served?" That's when the manager finally stepped in -- not to apologize, not to offer a solution, but to tell us my friend was "making a scene." She said she didn't want a disturbance in front of other guests (who were already watching this ridiculous display) and would now allow us to sit outside with our beers while we waited. So after all that -- the refusal to let us sit on the empty patio, the rejection of service at the bar while standing, and being told to wait in our car -- we ended up exactly where we started: outside with a beer. Except now, the experience was soured beyond repair. This place is clearly being run by young, inexperienced staff following rigid, illogical policies with no common sense or customer care. I've supported this business many times over the years, but after this debacle, it's hard to justify going back. Hospitality should be about making people feel welcome -- not chasing them off with red tape and eye rolls. Do better.
