It was pouring rain that day and we could not do camping like what we usually do, so we went out for food. To me, the service is good, friendly waitress. The restaurant is clean and modern. However, the food is like typical food-court food: burger, fries and famous Tobermory fish and chips. To me, the burger and fires are what you are expecting, like McDonald's or Costco, nothing special. The famous Tobermory fish and chips are similar to the ones I ate in Toronto. These food are comfort food. There are very few restaurants in Lion's Head. So I guess it is why it costs a bit more than Toronto. If I ever come back to Tobermory, I would not just come here. However, if you are in the area and you need to eat, with limited options, unlike some of the tourist trap in Tobermory, it is pretty safe to eat here.

I hadn't seen that they had gluten-free buns on the menu (as I originally was just going to go bun-less as they DO state the burgers are gluten-free), but upon ordering she let me know they do. If you are getting the GF bun, tis just two slices of GF bread. I'm not picky though and it still tasted good. For burger sides it was the usual soup, salad or fries w/ coleslaw (appears just the fries comes with coleslaw unless I read the menu wrong). Price was slightly below average ($11.xx before tax for my meal, minus drink). Would go again in dire need if in the area. If that happens though, I will likely try Rachel's next time for comparison. It gave the restaurant a very personal and creative atmosphere. The service was also warm and friendly. Since there are not many seats available, I would strongly recommend making a reservation. The Pollinator's Salad was fresh and light, with a dried herb vinaigrette and a generous amount of bee pollen. Since the menu mentioned edible flowers and foraged herbs, I was hoping to see more of those incorporated into the salad. I think they would have added more colour and made the dish feel even more special. The halloumi was soft while still having that satisfying squeaky texture. The maple syrup added a lovely sweetness, while the walnuts provided a nice crunch that complemented the softer cheese. The pan-fried trout was cooked very well. The lemon butter and capers added a nice combination of saltiness and citrus that paired well with the fish and wild rice. I would have loved to see a greater variety of seasonal vegetables alongside it. The zucchini also could have used more seasoning, as the accompanying red tomato sauce was quite bland. The handmade pasta had a flavourful sauce and a nice texture, although I felt the overall dish needed just a touch more seasoning to bring everything together. Unfortunately, the steak was the biggest disappointment of the meal. I wish a different cut had been used or that the steak had been prepared in a way that made it more tender. It was extremely tough and chewy--to the point that it was difficult to cut with a knife or even pierce with a fork. The steak and zucchini could also have used more seasoning. For a steak dish with mushrooms that cost a little over $40, we expected the meat to be tender and enjoyable, so this was the one dish I definitely would not order again. The desserts were enjoyable, and I appreciated the effort to showcase Ontario produce, particularly the wild apples in the pudding and Ontario peaches with the angel food cake. That commitment to incorporating local ingredients was one of the things I appreciated most about the menu. Overall, I have mixed feelings about the food. I really appreciate the restaurant's commitment to local produce and farm-to-table dining, and there were several dishes we enjoyed, particularly the salad, trout, halloumi, and desserts. At the same time, there were noticeable inconsistencies in seasoning and execution, with the steak being the biggest disappointment. Perhaps the intention is to keep the preparation simple so the local ingredients can shine, which I can appreciate. However, I think seasoning would actually help bring out those natural flavours rather than overpower them. I am also curious to see how the restaurant develops its identity over time, as the art and gallery experience currently feel almost as prominent as the food itself. We really want to support local restaurants, local Ontario produce, and the owners' creative farm-to-table vision. There is something very unique and special about what they are trying to create here. With some refinement and greater consistency in the food, I think the restaurant has the potential to make the dining experience just as memorable as its beautiful and whimsical setting.

The drinks were over priced for what we got, they were fine enough tasting but nothing special. Parking is very limited, we ended up parking down the street in a public lot and walking 3-4 minutes. Not a big deal, but it did take us a few minutes to sort it out. I'm glad we went, we got to enjoy a good meal on the water.

It did have ham and cheese but they used a sweet ham and regular sandwich bread instead of a true cuban loaf. Despite not being authentic, it was still tasty. Overall this place is fine if you're craving a Mexican meal. The prices were steep at $21 for three street tacos and $18 for a Cubano but most things in Tobermory are tourist-priced like this. Worth a try but just set your expectations accordingly.

The restaurant posted shorter business hours in the Friday night in September when we visited. Jenny was the only server, had no support and apparently there was one cook in the kitchen. The owners need to give these staff a bonus as they did a phenomenal job. We ordered the samosa appetizer, shared the two-piece Georgian Bay white fish and chips with homemade coleslaw and two small dinner salads. Each dish was wonderful. The samosas were flavorful, crispy, piping hot and we loved the fruit chutney. Our fish and chips were also hit, crispy, not greasy at all or overly salty. Everything here is made in-house with wonderful attention to seasoning. The tarter sauce had the best herb flavor. Our salads had basic, fresh produce and a homemade balsamic vinaigrette that was light and the perfect accompaniment to our salads. Again, dried herbs were sprinkled on the serving bowls and had the best fragrance and taste. Not surprisingly, I spotted herb plants growing in the window sill. Jenny confirmed that the owner and head chef uses them in his dishes. We were completely satisfied with our selections and don't usually have dessert. However, the Portuguese custard tart sounded so interesting, we had to share one. It is small and when sharing, just enough to savor the flavor without ruining the day's calorie count. Sooo good. Vanilla flavored creamy yet form custard with a caramelized sugar coating ticked away in light and flaky full dough. The total cost was $69.78 with a 20% tip. Well worth this tab for an excellent meal. We enjoyed the cozy dining room but can see how it would fill quickly during the peak of tourist season. Prepare for a wait. It's worth it.
