Stunning hotel in the woods. Dinner is a seated 6 pm affair! A must stay when visiting Tobermory!

Our server, however, was extremely friendly and the reggae music playing overhead was enjoyable and not obtrusive. The food and check did take a while to come out although the restaurant was admittedly full when we came. Prices: You're looking at about $9 pints and $21-25 entrees, it's not cheap but it's also about par for the course in the area. Food: We got the lamb burger and messy fish sandwich which were both very good. The lamb burger had a decent sized patty and wasn't gamey at all. It had a good amount of tatziki and pickle onions to balance out the flavors. They do also have great burger buns that was pillowy while still having a robust golden crust that doesn't get soggy 4.5/5 The fish sandwich had a breadcrumb breading that was very crispy and served with some fresh shredded greens to lighten up an otherwise heavier sandwich. I would recommend asking for a side of tartar sauce though to give it a little more acid/tang. 4/5 We got Cajun fries and poutine fries as our sides and they are the soggier once-fried kind although they had spot-on flavors which made them still enjoyable. 4/5 We would also strongly recommend trying the blonde and amber ales which were excellent summer beers with a light body and subtle complexity. 4/5 Overall, I would say this place is a solid choice. The food has great flavor, good quality, and the atmosphere is enjoyable. The prices are expectedly high for a tourist area but not so bad that we wouldn't come back again.

I've been a long-time visitor to Tobermory and a frequent guest at the Tobermory Brewing Company…read moreover the years. I've always enjoyed the patio -- beautiful views, great food, excellent beer. But this week's experience was so frustrating and absurd that I feel compelled to leave this review. On a cold, stormy evening, my brother, a friend, and I decided to eat inside the restaurant for the first time. We were told there was a 30-minute wait for an indoor table, which was understandable. Since the patio was mostly empty (I counted 21 available seats just on the front porch), we asked the host if we could grab a few drinks outside while we waited. Here's where things went downhill -- fast. We were told we couldn't sit outside to have drinks while waiting for our indoor table -- because, according to the host, if we sat outside, we'd have to commit to eating there. Even though it was stormy. Even though only a few patio tables were taken. Even though we were just trying to spend money at the bar while we waited. When we asked what he expected us to do during the wait, he suggested we sit in our car. Sit. In. Our. Car. Instead of ordering drinks and giving the business our money. Still baffled, we walked over to the indoor bar and tried to order a flight of beer. There was only one stool free, so we stood at the bar and asked the bartender if we could order. He said yes -- then ignored us for 5-10 minutes while cleaning glasses. When we politely followed up, he suddenly changed course and said he couldn't serve us unless we were seated. We were being denied service both standing inside and sitting outside. Truly the epitome of lose-lose. At that point, my friend took the only available stool at the bar and asked, "Now can I be served?" That's when the manager finally stepped in -- not to apologize, not to offer a solution, but to tell us my friend was "making a scene." She said she didn't want a disturbance in front of other guests (who were already watching this ridiculous display) and would now allow us to sit outside with our beers while we waited. So after all that -- the refusal to let us sit on the empty patio, the rejection of service at the bar while standing, and being told to wait in our car -- we ended up exactly where we started: outside with a beer. Except now, the experience was soured beyond repair. This place is clearly being run by young, inexperienced staff following rigid, illogical policies with no common sense or customer care. I've supported this business many times over the years, but after this debacle, it's hard to justify going back. Hospitality should be about making people feel welcome -- not chasing them off with red tape and eye rolls. Do better.

3.5 stars really. Four stars for ambience, three for food and service…read more Seek out this up-North remote vacation pub/dining room for a relaxing dinner. It is not in the town, but on the small woodsy north peninsula. Clean, roomy, with a beautiful view of the harbor from the multi-level deck. Although the view was obscured somewhat by the folded umbrella, umbrella support, condiment basket, and railing. All of which are necessary I suppose. We were there in early fall after the holiday, so it was peaceful and quieter than the drinking party crowd eateries in the town. It is a small building, interior decor was "dining hall at camp". Whitefish dinner was good, not great. Both fish and veg slightly overcooked. Was fish frozen and thawed instead of being fresh? It had that slightly steamed quality that should not be in fresh fish. It tasted good though. My companion had ribs with Carolina sauce. Now, we don't expect true barbecue smoke and heat in this region, but ribs were (there's a theme here) overcooked. They seem to have been par-boiled, then grilled to finish when ordered. Sauce described as "hot" was about once notch zippier than bland. Fries (chips?) were good. All was attractively plated and presented. Drinks list had a good assortment for such a small business this remote, they had something for every taste. Server was friendly and cheery, but fey and disorganized. She would answer half a question, disappear for a long time, then come back to answer another question. When she brought our meals, she plopped them down and disappeared. I had a question about an unexpected item on my plate (I have a few allergies) and it took nearly ten minutes to get someone's attention - the place was not that busy then. When it was time for our check, we had to wait and track her down again. Very annoying, as we were tired from driving most of the day and wanted to return to our motel. Not a fancy place by city standards, but good for such a remote seasonal location. I would go again, just lower your expectations some.
