If you're comfortable spending some money and not looking for an intimate setting, this is the restaurant of choice in the area. Although it is a stone's throw from the inlet, there are no water views from the restaurant. Outdoor setting when seasonally appropriate. The space is a little small, so I recommend a reservation if you don't want to sit near the bar. Regardless, service is always great. Crowd is a bit mixed, 30s, 40s and 50s+...definitely expect to see a few older women trying to compete with their granddaughters' sense of fashion! Got there on time but had to wait about 20 minutes ( which i though was no big deal considering summer time and Saturday night being very busy ) Food. Really, really good! This place was great. It's very rare that we give 5 stars but this is one time we felt obligated. Very casual yet very high end food for the area. We had the calamari app and also the seared scallop and foie gras app to start. Both were totally perfect. For dinner I got the 38oz ribeye with the creamed spinach and mashed potatoes and onion rings. Crazy good. Kim got the seared scallops (I know redundant) with filet mignon. I finished the entire steak in 13 minutes. Yes, it was that good. We had to skip dessert because we were so full but we also must say that the service was impeccable. Perfect. Our party of six arrived at 7:50 PM for our 8 PM reservation made weeks prior. We waited a good 25 minutes to be seated. Between the six of us we ordered the Lobster Bisque, Arugula salad, grilled Octopus, for starters and the Grilled Scallops, Tuna and the Mahi special as entrees. The Bisque was just ok needs a shot of sherry. Arugula salad was very good, Grilled Octopus was good but costly for the portion size. Tuna was dry and tastless, Scallops were large and very good. Desserts were all good and should be at $10.00 each. Our server was ok if not robotic. As stated in other reviews this place is too noisy. It is impossible to carry-on a conversation with anyone not seated directly next to you or hear your server read the specials. As someone stated in their review if this restaurant was not located at a popular shore location it would not survive. Price vs. value is lacking. read more

The inside dining was over 25% and when I mentioned that to the manager, he disagreed with me. He obviously doesn't know his math. Grossly negligent. This is why we will never get rid of covid. Murphy puts laws into place, no one follows them and no one is policing them. Just this reason alone makes me mad I gave them money, let alone a tip. Now to the food, while my burger was decent..sad that I ordered a burger here, but my son ordered the butter poached lobster. They claim to put truffle peeling, but if you know your truffles and can tell by the picture, those are Chinese black truffles, which are no better than mushrooms. So I call that false advertising or they just have no clue...$43.00 for this dish. Then we ordered the quart of lobster bisque soup and you can also tell by the picture how measly and cheap they were with the lobster. Should I even mention that my son, who is immune compromised got diarrhea right after eating his meal. Food- two of us ordered filet mignon medium & medium rare. Both were so rare the inside was not even warm. Sent back and it was obviously microwaved. Looked ok but when you cut into it it was still red. Did not want to send it back again as the other two were almost done eating. Atmosphere- busy bar -popular place. However, we had a friend in from out of state and could hardly hear one another due to a very loud band. Complained but it did not help. You would think that management would understand that people like to converse. Not so. Service - very good! Deserts- a weak spot. This place needs a pastry chef! Very expensive - for the 4 of us with a 20% tip the bill came to just over $300. Next time I'll go to Moonstruck in Asbury Park. Better all-around and not as expensive nor noisy. read more

This was our first time at shipwreck grill and will be returning. Our waitress was very attentive and she suggested the mango clementine martini. It was just perfect. I had the salmon special with black beans, prosciutto, asparagus, fennel and sweet potato. It was probably one of the best meals I've had at a restaurant. My husband had the filet and scallops. The steak was very tender and the scallops were done perfectly. We ended our meal with a peanut butter and chocolate mousse cake. We went on a Tuesday night and I was surprised how crowded it was. I can't imagine what a Friday or Saturday night looks like.... Update we went back on a Saturday night and the place was so loud I couldn't hold a conversation with the person next to me. My food was still delicious I again had the special which was grouper. It is very pricey so I was a little disappointed about not being able to enjoy the atmosphere and a conversation with the people at my table. Our server was less than adequate. I have to admit, in 12 years or so of really enjoying going to Shipwreck Grill tonight was the worst experience I have had at Shipwreck Grill and truthfully I have not had any bad experiences in the past. After being seated I had get up to ask the young man acting as host twice to see if he could get a server to our table. It was not until I was getting up for the 3rd time to find a server that a server (Megan) finally came to the table. It continued on the same downward spiral after that. The octopus was rubbery and the bronzini was overcooked and the expresso was no better than warm coffee, even after we complained about the expresso and asked for another cup. Our server Megan rarely came to the table and never asked how about our meal. Had she, she would have learned at least about the bronzini. This is not to say I won't go back but it will not be with the same anticipation that I have had in the past and unfortunately I will not be able to give it an unqualified recommendation. The restaurant is nice inside, a little dressier than most shore spots. For our entrees, I had the Corvina fish special with white beans and Broccoli rabe which was outstanding. My wife had the small plates surf and turf which was only average. Meat was overdone. Enjoyed a very nice special occasion dinner at Shipwreck Grille in Brielle NJ this evening. Don't let the no frills exterior fool you, the food was on par with the price and the interior matches the "proper attire only" policy. My wife and I shared the Beet Salad starter with goat cheese. It was prepared as a diced stack of pickled beets over arugula and sprouts garnished with a tasty basalmic dressing. Salads / Soups. I ordered the New England Clam Chowder while my wife enjoyed the Kale Salad. Both were excellently prepared. Chowder could have had a few more clams but the bacon garnish was nice. I did need to add a bit of salt. The Kale salad was superior to the chowder. Excellent marriage of flavor and the kale was baby leaves and tender. Entrees: The stuffed lobster tail with mashed potatoes was top notch in terms of freshness and flavor. Stuffing did not overwhelm the lobster meat. I had the Pork Chop..with a delicious glaze. Bit over cooked. If you like slightly pink be sure to order Medium Rare and not Medium. However the cut was thick and the lobster gnocchi were tasty which garnish with peas, shiitake mushrooms, pearl onions and tender carrots. Dessert: Shared their Riccotta "Donuts". Comes with marscapone cream and Espresso mousse...delicious. Not really donuts, they are more like Italian zeppoli cappuccino above average. Service was top shelf. Each course provided new silver wear and table cloth clean up. This place is about the food not the scenery, unless you like looking at the backside of the marina it backs up to. This restaurant came highly recommended and did not disappoint! My wife and I went for her birthday tonight, we enjoyed everything from appetizers to dessert. We started with the chilled seafood sampler and a crab cake, followed up with a lobster bisque. Then my wife had the Pistachio Crusted Grouper and I had the Filet and Scallops. For dessert we had the Apple Tatin and the Key Lime Tart. The only thing better than the food was the service. Our waitress was right there every time we needed her to be and the manager even stopped by to check on us and clear our appetizer plates. She directed us to the bar and said we were welcome to wait 20 minutes while they prepped for dinner. There were about 10 other people sitting at the bar. We were happy to sit for 20 minutes indoors as it was pouring outside. However when a 2nd employee came over and asked us to please wait in the parking lot ....I thought he was joking as it was raining quite hard. The place is always packed and now I know why. We finally had dinner and it was worth the wait. We started with the Lobster bisque. It was creamy and full of flavor ... Indescribable. You'll have to try it. Next up was the calamari and I judge certain restaurants by it's calamari. It's fried in a rice flour and glazed with a chili sauce topped with jalapeno peppers... Amazing.
