Alaskan Cod Fish & Chips
Eddie J.

If you're craving fish & chips and clam chowder in Astoria, then head over to Ship Out Fish & Chips, located just off Warrenton - Astoria Hwy at Lewis and Clark Rd. We stopped in for lunch on our way to Cannon Beach and had some of the best Fish & Chips and Clam Chowder we've ever had. Definitely worth the stop. Recommendation: Try the Cod Fish & Chips basket, and also add the Clam Chowder. Both are so good!

I actually don't know if I have the words to describe just how incredible the food was. Oyster shooters were the best thing I've ever had. The manhattan fish chowder was UNBELIEVABLE. Fish and chips were delicious! Loved the atmosphere! Will be back!

Calamari and scallops, chips and Cole slaw

If you want really good fish and chips or squid and scallops and chips, this is where you want to go. The special today was squid (calamari) and scallops. Both were fresh and sweet and cooked just right. These may well be the best scallops I have ever eaten, and I am old. The food is great, the crew cooking and serving is great. You eat in an old greenhouse, yes, kind of weird but it does not affect the taste of the fish. ;o) There are a bunch of reasons why this pklace should not work and one really good one why it should: the food is great, the crew is great. Eat there!

We got the full basket and got 1/2 cod and 1/2 halibut. Was really good! We lived the coleslaw and the tartar sauce. The service was excellent too! We choice this place because we were able to take our dog and we wanted fish and chips! They have lots of cool things around that's you can buy.

Juicy, delicious and substantial charbroiled burger with the best fries ever.

Ship Out is definitely one of our favorite go to spots. You're always guaranteed to have tasty eats and polite service. Their halibut fish and chips are great. Their chicken "burger" is always tasty and their hamburgers have that delicious charbroiled taste, that makes your mouth water and your belly happy. The seafood chowder is also good. And on top of all that, their fries are some of the best, crispy, tasty fries I've ever had! Take out or sit down in their cozy, funky building. It's a fun place to share a meal. Don't skip out on Ship Out!

It's a fish and chips day............SO.......we came to SHIP OUT! We come here every time we are in Astoria. It is a favorite go to place since 2017. We enjoyed a Halibut basket, it was hot, fresh, flakey, not fishy and DELICIOUS! Husband had the Oysters basket which were just as good. The French fries are wonderful and the coleslaw just right! What makes extra terrific fried food is the oil and the oil was clean, clear and not greasy, it was PERFECT! Comfortable setting, covered, brought food to the table, paper towels and had lots of condiments!

I was skeptical about this place as it was out of our way on the road back to Washington from the Oregon Coast, and then found out at the register that they don't sell beer 8-). However, let me tell you how GLAD I am that we stopped here for lunch!! This place is most likely the best fish and chips I have ever had... in my life. The breading was light and full of flavor, fish cooked to perfection on both the Cod fish and chips and the Halibut sandwich. The I couldn't get enough of the homemade tartar sauce and spicy sauce that came with the halibut sandwich. The fries were great too but the main attraction was to die for! I'm almost glad I don't live closer because I would seriously eat here at least twice a week if I could. If you are able to stop by here, you must!!

The food was sooo good!!!!! The ambience needed some music in the background. The food came out fast and hot. The sating garden is cute and unique. I would come here again.

Large portion, hot, crispy and fresh. The oysters were Large and the bowl of clam chowder had alot of clams in it. The halibut was amazing! A little spendy but service was good and the eating area was spacious and unique. Lots of free parking.

We found ourselves in Warrenton at lunchtime today and stopped by the funky Ship Out. Is it a good cart? Is it a sit down restaurant? Yes to both! You order at a food cart and sit down in a generous greenhouse type shelter which also sells funky wall decorations, mugs, beach bric-a-brac. A fountain in the middle of the eating area sounded beautiful mingled with the sound of bird sing in the partially open roof. We were greeted by a friendly young woman behind the high window of the cart. Both my companion and I ordered halibut fish and chips. We are glad we did! I consider myself a fish and chips connoisseur and these were some of the best I've had. The halibut was flaky and perfectly cooked. The batter was light and flavorful and properly greasy. The French fries were also incredible--crispy and perfect. Both the fish and the chips were steaming hot when they were delivered to our table. The servings were generous. The side of coleslaw was fresh and tasty. The meals were not inexpensive, but both of us were glad we sprang for these. I think Ship Out will be on regular rotation when we go to the Oregon Coast!

The caesar and cod fish salad. Yummy. It took a little while to get the food, but I had some emails to write and I was standing in the sun. Let's just say it was worth the wait. The ambiance was very nice a bunch of older type knick knacks from the farm and from the beach as well as indoor seating and outdoor seating. For those of you that like poetry.. As I sit and feel Cool ocean breeze Against my skin, I spy in tall dune grass, Something yummy to eat. Helping me to enjoy some time off In a place that I like very much.

Fish and chips/ chowder/ prawns

Don't be put off by the exterior. This is a fabulous restaurant/ food truck. The food truck/ kitchen is at the front and then across the covered wall-way is a lovely big covered area with heaters and lots of seating. We had the haddock fish and chip which was amazing!! And the prawns were great. The chowder was perfection-full of fish and goodness. The service was quick and super polite. I would recommend this place to anyone heading to Astoria.

Shrimp, oyster and chips
Stephanie S.

The shrimp and oysters were battered in such a crisp light batter and were cooked to perfection. The tartar sauce was so tasty and creamy. The oyster shooters were interesting. Unique that they served them with cocktail sauce and lettuce. First time ever that we have experienced lettuce in an oyster shooter. The clam chowder had good dill flavor with lots of clams. It's a little more thin than I like but it was still very good. We really enjoyed the food and how fresh everything tasted. The oil is clean and does not weight down the fish or batter. Love there was plenty of seating and they even have little knick knacks for sale. I bought a dragonfly keepsake. Definitely on our list to stop by anytime we are the area or just passing through.

The thirty minute wait had us seated right around 2pm, after the lunch rush had dissipated. We had a table just inside the door on the first floor, and the wind from the open door was a little chilly so I ate lunch in my jacket. I can't imagine eating on the windy little patio. And this was August 15th, summer heat, not! Our friendly hostess was also our server, and we got right down to food. First the ceviche ($16) which was shrimp today. Husband ate most of this dish, as I wasn't starving. It was a nice little bowl of chopped shrimp with some red peppers and lime. The chips were thick and rigid. Clearly homemade, which is nice. On to entrees, which took awhile because they are made to order. Husband chose the rockfish and chips, and I had the rockfish tacos on corn. The fish tacos were a huge portion, three stuffed corn tortillas with fish, cabbage, guacamole and pico. The accompanying orange colored (chipotle?) sauce was also yummy. The fish were smaller chunks but well seasoned. I also ate the rest of his chips with my meal, although the tomatillo green salsa was not my favorite. The rockfish and chip was three large pieces of crunchy battered fish with fries, tartar sauce and slaw. After the ceviche there was no way he was finishing this big portion! I took a picture of the inside of one of the fillets, so you can see how thick the fish is cut. No dessert for us, just settled the bill (3% card surcharge) and off we went with our leftovers. A good meal at a popular place can be had at lunch, with a little patience for the wait!

That's just a fail, and it suggests a place that doesn't bother keeping things fresh. It kind of went downhill from there. We were looking for nice fresh fish and chips, wile we were out along the coast. We live near the coast ourselves, and are no strangers to good seafood. We decided to do the Cod and the Halibut fish and chips. While the halibut seemed fresh, the cod was waxy and looked old, and frankly i found it somehow mildly nauseating. I couldn't bring myself to teat it. The batter was crsipy, but lacked seasoning and tasted really flat (cardboard?). Aside from that, the coleslaw seemed pretty old soggy. Gross. Not impressed at all - some of the worst fish and chips I have ever had. Some people may like this kind of food - but i will actively avoid this place the next time in Astoria. Hard pass. i'm nauseous just thinking back to my experience here. Could hardly get away fast enough...

I can do that. But I want to order that exact appetizer at Fede, along with the preserved tomato and ricotta crostini, and I want that perfect-ass arugula salad with heavy shards of Parmesan and the lemony vinaigrette, without having to do the heavy lifting/rinsing/prep at home. Found Fort George right down the street from our hotel and they had a black bean burger on the menu (whooo!) Headed over for a late lunch/early dinner at 3 pm. You can choose from the wood fired pizza section upstairs (I believe they take reservations) or the pub downstairs (first come first serve) which has a few indoor tables, some semi-outdoor tables that are well covered with a roof and glass sides, or a fully outdoor beer garden with covered and un-covered picnic tables. You order at the counter and then pick your table, they'll drop off the food to you. We opted for the black bean veggie burger which came with pepper jack cheese, guac, some Aioli, and a side of fries. It was very good and exactly what we were craving. They did have a vegan chicken sandwich that looked good but instead I went with a side salad with poppy seed dressing. The salad was fresh and so delicious and the dressing was perfection! Also did a side of hummus and veggies. The hummus wasn't fresh/home made, rather it was from a local place (I believe) and was pretty good. We didn't have their beer but they did have a large selection with varying ABVs and types (the fresh hop IPAs looked extra good); however we didn't see any non-alcoholic options when we looked. We had the ice tea which was fine as well as a Lüp, which was a sparkling hop water, it was pretty good. They also have a gift shop with shirts, hats, beers, and more. They had four (!!!) different types of aged barleywines - we regret not getting some to bring back home. Terrible experience - put more people up from or go mobile menu! Later that day, we spent a good hour here for a wedding happy hour, with the venue rented. Beers were great, and they made the best White Summer (50% beer, 50% cider) I have had! The food were all fantastic, and the barrel room was a great space with good access to stand outside. However, the staff were quite rude to several guests about drinking alcohol outside - the door sign was often blocked or too small - and we were told to not use the general patio - so figure that out to make it a more positive experience.
