I have been going this salon for 12 Years. Lisa started a great bus and sold it to Tony. Tony recently sold the business. Before the new owner room over, Tony made an appointment for me. He advised me to have mani/ pedi done one day before my trip. I called one day before my appointment to see if I could move it up from Friday to Saturday. The message on vm stated that the salon is closed until September 18 and callers could call to reschedule. What a terrible way to treat established customers! I am beyond annoyed and will not be back. Tony and his staff did a great job and I wish them well. I will not support this new owner. Fortunately, I was able to get in at Heidi's in Lakeville. I chose this place because it was closer than my normal salon. I chose to get a full set of acrylics and wanted a specific design. I pulled up the picture on my phone and asked her if she (manager) could do the design. She said she could, and I (very politely) said I wanted it exactly like the photo (very small snake on one nail with no details or anything) and that I would be okay just picking a plain color if she didn't think she could do it exactly the same. She said she could. Alas, it was not even close. The line Varried in width and was more of a thunderbolt than a snake. I said well, that's not really what I am looking for and she wanted to try again. She tried a couple more times and I said let's just do plain color. She said she would make a nice pattern for me and I was just tired of going back and forth at this point so I agreed. The pattern was not symmetrical or even with the other finger at all. I got out to the car and noticed that there was acrylic going off my mail as well as a lot of unevenness and bubbles. My fingers also has a couple of small nicks from where the nail grinder had slipped. For the price, not worth it. I have very thin nails that break easily so I get a dip manicure everywhere I go I've never had a problem before, but for $45 this manicure was pretty bad. The brush the manicurist used for the base was old and split leading to uneven application, and the result is groovy and rough and 5 coats too thick. She neglected to trim or shape my nails at all, and it was very rushed. The tools also did not seem very sterile as they were just in a Tupperware container and clearly had been used on another person just before me. This place rocks. Their prices are extremely affordable and their service is FANTASTIC. I've gotten pedicures there multiple times now and it is the BEST experience. Just moved to Burnsville in search of a nail salon I found this place. I got my powdered gel manicure, but after 3 days the polish chipped, and my nails kept breaking. I went back to my regular nail salon in Saint Paul to get them re-done. Not happy with the results I got. I haven't had a problem with powdered gel until I went here. I think the formula is cheap, and they didn't have good color selections. Not worth it. read more

This is a strip mall priced nail place that treats you like an upscale salon. I've been going to shiny nails for years. At first, it was a place for me to meet family from Northfield and now we all go there because it's the best. While there are a ton of other places near my house, I drive to Burnsville because it's that good. They have awesome new chairs, are super careful to keep things clean and go the extra mile for all services performed. Even when I've paid for a massage, I've never had as good of a foot / leg rub as they give during their pedicures. It's magic! They even finish off their pedis with a hot stone massage. I just got back from my first experience at Shiny Nails. I just had to write a review (I don't write many). Staff was laid back and pleasurable. The owner (I believe) is a riot. I had gel polish done for the first time. I did a lot of research prior to having this done as I have paper thin nails and do not appreciate having to wait 6 months to regrow my nails if damaged (such as with acrylics). I would recommend reading reviews and doing some research before having this done for the first time as not all gel polish products or technicians are the same. (i.e. http://www.alllacqueredup.com/2010/01/talk-soak-off-gel-nail-polish.html) Some polishes will not soak off they have to be peeled and filed off-- my nails are so thin, there is nothing to file. They are so thin they still bend even with gel polish on- which I prefer as this feels more natural to me. I am having no trouble at all typing this.) I don't feel as though I have fake nails on at all. I was very pleased to find out that they do not file the top layer of your nails to apply gel product here and they use a "soak off" removal product called Gellish (I believe) with a fair variety of colors. As a busy single mom of a disabled kid I am hoping gel polish will solve my issue of not having enough time to manicure my own nails and this place is also within my tight budget. I was told polish will last at least 10 days but the woman next to me having it done told me hers lasts up to 3 weeks (if you don't mind a chip or two in between). This is huge for me as the only downside (aside from time/cost) of having your nails done in a salon is that you HAVE to go back to repair a chipped nail because you don't have that color at home. Also, once the gel cures (sets) it really sets. The color and the gel are completely dry so no need to worry about nicking a nail after you leave. There were women in there coming in from pretty far so that says a lot to me. No need to get luxury upgrades as the base service is equivalent to full service experience (pedi includes hot stone massage $25 and gel mani includes parafin wax= $30 regular mani= $12 (not sure if wax is included in regular mani- will update) or $35 if you get mani and pedi at same time). I did a french manicure so I can't speak for their fancy freehand skills but if that is what you're into, I suggest staying out of the burbs and heading over to U2 nails in MPLS on lake and Chicago. I visited yesterday with my daughter for a pedicure as a walk in. I was welcomed by a very friendly woman who said they could help us right away. The salon was clean and neat. The technician was very kind and polite. She was so tickled with my 4 year old daughter that she painted flowers and put jewels on her toes because 'she is just so cute'! She took great care with all aspects of my pedicure and did a fabulous job. The prices were very reasonable. I got a Deluxe Pedicure for $37 that included a sea scrub, massage and hot stone massage. I will be back in the future even though there are other salons much closer to home. read more

I love shiny nails. I have been going here for about 6-9 months now and I have never had a bad experience. The price is reasonable the facility is clean. They have a nice variety of colors to pick from and the staff will make extra details if you ask, like flowers for example. The staff always takes their time and uses care. I recommend getting the deluxe pedicure with hot stone massage and the deluxe manicure with paraffin wax! So relaxing I could actually fall asleep. They are accommodating to your needs. I find the rest of these reviews difficult to believe. We have to be going to some place different. I've been getting gel manicures for a few years now and was not only grossed out by the changing (I.e. incredibly old) colors of the gel/shellac selection they have but by the entire experience. This has to be one of the worst salons I've ever been to. And that's not just talking about the fact that the colors were all very similar so the variety was lacking. Driving up to this place, I wasn't expecting much. It's a strip mall location and it doesn't get better inside. It is dated and absolutely disgusting. I had to request clean tools and even then, I'm not sure how clean they were. The bathroom smelled, the sink was entirely ringed where I went to wash my hands, and there were no clean brushes or towels to be found. I was traded off in the middle after waiting incredibly long in the beginning, so I'm not going to be forgiving in the fact that my design and manicure were lacking; the massage was weak and the gel itself was pitiful (most likely because it was old) and lasted barely a week. Don't go to this place. God knows you might be better off just staying m home and doing it yourself and it costing a heck of a lot less than trying to be up sold on crappy, old products like here. read more

The nail tech did not pay attention to what she was doing at all. Hit my hand several times with the nail file. Did a complete rush job. I was done before my friend, even though I started at least 10-15 mins after her. The tech did a really bad job with the gel nail polish. She put on so many layers that some were gloppy/streaky and instead of fixing them just put more polish on top. My nails are curved, thick, and unevenly filed. This place is way too expensive ($55 for a fill with matte finish!!), especially for the sloppy work they did. I had to file my nails at home to get them straight. Don't recommend. read more

Very enjoyable experience my wife got a pedi and fill, I had the mani/pedi package. It took ninety minutes so we where there thirty minutes after closing time. The employees and owner showed no signs of being upset about staying late. The lady that did my services said they do have it happen a lot and it's not a problem. My pedi included things that would have cost more at other salons. They where very friendly and personable a top notch salon. This place was a joke. I walked in for the first time for an eyebrow wax and a very rude women told me to go wash my hands. I had no idea where since I'd never been there so she just pointed to the back like I should know where the sink is. Then proceeded to be bossy, condescending and short with me, interrupting me when I was trying to answer her question on how I wanted my eyebrows done. I was totally turned off from the minute I walked in and should have turned around and walked out. There weren't many customers there and now I understand why. Plus she did a terrible job on my eyebrows and just flew through it not even shaping them like I explained. Terrible first experience...will never set foot in there again. First time at this salon. My first concern was the tools, cuticle cutter etc were not sterile. They were all together in a Tupperware type container. I thought everything had to be sterilized and opened in front of you now my next concern was the cleanliness. Everything was very dirty and they never asked me to wash my hands before being polished. I had a gel manicure and the lights they used have probably never been cleaned. The outsides were smeared with whatever and I could feel a lot of junk on my hands as I slid them in there. I went in for a simple manicure with clear (not gel) polish; was in town for a funeral and wanted to clean up my nails. They dipped my hands in paraffin wax before the polish was completely dry, so it had the texture of orange peel. All of he polish was cracking and peeling off within a day. They weren't busy, so I don't know why the rush, but choose another salon if you want a good job. On the plus side, my technician was friendly. read more
