This is no exaggeration: If the doctor told me that tomorrow was my last day to live, the first thing I would do in the morning is go to Shin's Donuts. I have been searching this city high and low for a donut that can distinguish itself from the nearly limitless number of donut shops in Dallas. In my experience, they are pretty much all the same. Except Shin's. These are the best donuts in Dallas. Period. The selection at Shin's may appear to be just like every other joint around town, but the quality and freshness is unparalleled. I am nearly ritualistic about visiting Shin's on Saturday morning. I have had nearly everything there and here are the real standouts in my opinion: 1. Donut Holes- an absolute must. The dough is so light and chewy, the glaze perfectly sweet. Ask for them fresh off the cooling rack and you will be hooked for life. 2. Apple Fritters-hot and crispy, always glorious with a glass of milk. 3. Blueberry Cake- I have never had a blueberry donut with more blueberry flavor per square inch. Best in the city. 4. Cinnamon Twists- both the sugar coated and the glazed are delicious, these are always on my order. 5. Crossiants- whether you get the sausage roll or the breakfast sandwiches, these things would any Frenchman weep with joy. Honestly, everything is superb though. Inkyung and Paul Shin are two of the sweetest people I have ever met. ***IMPORTANT ADVICE*** Walk in. Just ask, "What do you have fresh out of the fryer?" Order whatever it is. When I told my wife of my intention to award Shin with a 5 star rating she responded by saying "What are you talking about? They're just donuts." Just donuts? Kroger makes donuts that are just donuts. Baker's Square makes donuts that are just donuts. Those two sentences wounded me deeply. I felt like I had borne my creme filled soul only for it to be dashed to pieces and trampled under foot. Shin's donuts are NOT just donuts. They are some of the finest pieces of glazed bread man has ever known. I can't ever get out of this place for less than $10 even if it's just me, not because Shin's is overly expensive, but because I want to make sure I get a bite of everything. The glazed blueberry cake donut is my favorite, immediately followed by the donut holes. When they're right nice and hot they literally melt away in your mouth. I can down those babies like a bowl of popcorn. The cinnamon twist (not the one that has cinnamon sugar on it, but the one with glaze) and the chocolate glazed donuts are also solid choices. I'm a huge fan of the kolaches as well. Shin makes them with the perfect amount of sweet bread wrapped around a tasty, juicy jalapeno sausage. I'm not as in to the jumbo ones for whatever reason, but the regular size ones are so delicious. I've heard great things about the croissant kolaches as well, but haven't tried one yet. Aside from having great food, Shin is one of the nicest people you'll meet. Almost every time I go I bring my son in and she gives him a donut hole or two which he absolutely loves. One time we ate there and she popped open a milk for him at no charge. I really hope this place will start to get the Yelp cred it deserves, because it completely redefined what I thought a good donut should taste like. read more

For the price, I'm not sure how this isn't universally "as good as it gets!" Shin's has built a local reputation for delicious and affordable donuts / sausage rolls (aka kolaches). With your donut order, you also get some free rogue donut holes - a small but joyous bonus! The donuts are always fresh, and shockingly aren't even half bad on Day 2 (you know, after they sat out in the breakroom because everyone forgot to put them away). And as Heli M so accurately notes, the second you walk through the front door, you're hit with a heavenly smell. Heard about this place for years and how great it was. Finally got to try it out this morning. The donut holes (that are raved about) where ok in my opinion. Deffinetly have had worse before but can't say they where the best I've ever had. Now that being said ... the pig in a blanket croissant was EXCELLENT. That was the best I've ever had. Good enough after scaring down 2 the parking lott, I had to go back in and get another. Also there cream filling for the eclairs n such was great as well. Tasted homemade and not like if came straight out of a can. Really enjoyed the choclate icing they used as well. I'm glad I finally got to try Shins and if ever in the area again around breakfast you can be sure I'm gonna hit up those Pigs n a blanket croissants. read more

I love this place. They have great donuts & the donut holes are so kick ass. I love the maple eclair and I don't order the cream filling but you do have the option if you prefer your eclair all filled up. The service is always fast and friendly. They have a great selection of donuts. I can't go as often as I used to but they are still in that top five of my fat man donut rotation. Just stopped in here for the first time and was not disappointed! At 11:30am on a Sunday they still had a good selection of doughnuts and they even gave me some free doughnut holes! The staff was tremendously friendly and helpful and the doughnuts were melt in your mouth delicious with the perfect amount of frosting. Chinese owned and staffed the line was out the door both mornings even at 0900. 48 assorted donuts and 24 sausage rolls and 24 sausage croissants later, the lads were fed. Delicious and all for $140. It was like a never ending supply. The croissants were my fave but the rolls also admirable - just off to scoff another sugar coated donut. read more

First review ever~ I was just browsing through reviews when I came upon one on donuts and thought it was a little silly until I realized it's MY donut shop!! I thought I was the only one in love with these lil beauties. The first time I went I immediately felt welcome. Especially, when I find two little surprise donut holes along with my kolache. I have never been back since that I didn't order at least one donut. Best donuts I've ever had! Not to mention the owners are the nicest ever. Just them alone will make you want to return. They give two or three donut holes with every order! Free! I've had sausage jalapeño kolache, sausage croissant, chocolate glazed donuts, apple fritter, twists, and of course the holes. I've heard so many good things about this place, so I had to go and try them out. I ordered 2 sausage/cheese kolaches and a ham/cheese/egg croissant. They threw in a couple of free donut holes in the bag, and the total came to about $6. The kolaches were great, but I was not impressed with the croissant at all. Even though they had warmed it up in the microwave, it was still lukewarm. The egg was rubbery and bland, and the ham was still cold. They are probably known more for their donuts, so the next time I come here, I will probably just stick with the donuts. read more

I saw Shin's on a list of top5 donut shops in DFW. Since it was near my office, I decided to stop in. Shin's offers a pretty standard selection of donuts, but they are better than average. The glazed donuts and donut holes are lighter than others I've had, with the perfect glaze to donut proportions. The sausage croissant actually flaked - and flaking is a good in anything labeled "croissant." I don't know if they have secret ingredients, fresh grease in the fryers or just pay more attention to the preparation, but this place is definitely a winner. The service was friendly and the donut maker guy (Mr. Shin?) in the back came out to help when it got busy around 8AM. Worst experience ever. We had ordered a couple dozen donuts for my son's first birthday party and we're running 10 minutes late to pick up our order due to rain and these people threw away the donuts or sold them. This was my first visit to this place although I was trying to go to a different donut shop that I believe to have formerly been this one. It was very busy but the line moves fairly quickly so don't let that spook you. I think because of all the office buildings nearby that this is probably a common stop for many that work in the area. The parking lot is shared among the other stores on this strip of buildings so when it's busy your only option is basically to wait for someone to leave. Not any fault on this business, it's just good to note. I ordered a dozen donuts all for myself because I love donuts so much and I was very hungry. Not really, but hey I could've eaten it all if I wanted. The lady working the counter was very polite and let me chose my assortments. They had a great variety of kolaches, drinks, stuffed donuts, traditional cake donuts and about every other donut you can think of. This place does give you donut holes with your order as a surprise when you go to eat but as a seasoned donut eater I am very familiar with this practice and I loved that they continued the tradition like many donut makers before them. The cake donuts were especially good but the regular donuts could've been fresher. Next time I'll try some of the kolaches for sure. Overall, quick stop for me but if you're in a rush I recommend calling ahead to place an order and bringing someone with you in case you have to wait for parking while they run in. read more
