Eh. It serves the purpose. I used to frequent the Richmond Heights location, which was so much more convenient for a City resident (Des Peres is out of the question), but had to use up my lingering tans at Des Peres. During the summer there is regularly a wait, sometimes so much that I looked in the window and turned around and left. The prices were pretty good, but VersaSpa is getting cheaper now so it doesn't seem all that great anymore. Some of the equipment is dated, covered in tanning solutions and just mucky. I've used Versa in Las Vegas when I work there and at Beach House Bronze. At this point, I definitely prefer the VersaPro, which is basically the same price at Beach House Bronze, and just a new salon. I did leave my wedding ring there once and they grabbed it and held it for me, so kuddos for that. Towels are readily available, along with hair nets, but no nose plugs or lip balm (supplied by the salon in Vegas). They also often have diet pill advertisements/samples and things like that laying around which looks cheap and as if they're trying to make a quick buck. It's a bit trashy. read more

Not a good experience. Went there for the first time yesterday and asked for a medium clear spray tan. The woman who helped me was rude and treated my experience as a sales pitch. My tan did not even turn out, and I had to self tan for the event I had today. Overall, not a good experience and I do not plan on coming back. read more

You guys, this place is the worst. Closed on Sundays? Everyone wants to be tan by Monday. Who wants to spend their Saturday baking a spray tan on? The location used to be conveniently located near my hairstylist, so I maintained an account with them out of seemingly convenience. However, their hours of operation are so prohibitive that it became a challenge to use the 20 rollover credits I accrued. In addition, in order for me to catch up on my credits, I have to pay them to maintain an account so I can use the credits that I paid monthly for. Now I'm stuck with them and am considering ditching the $250 in credits and going to TanCo. They have reasonable hours, and you can even go in and get quick touch ups instead of a full service. They also have different tints. You only have one job Shine. One job. And you don't even do it well. read more

I've gone here 2 times now. Every time I go they try and sell me something. They go through my history of what I've purchased and when I say I just want a spray with no additives they continue to ask if I want to buy samples, food pads, extenders etc. They spray tan always comes off in 2 days. This past time I got one I waited 48hrs to shower and I didn't wash my body or exfoliate because I needed color and it still came right off. Even after the tan initially developed I was shocked to see that little color was there. I don't look like I had a spray tan. read more

I tried to go in to Shine last night to tan using some of my remaining tans on my membership that I previously canceled over the phone. I am extremely upset that when I went into the store I was greeted with a $60 bill because the employee failed to cancel my membership when I called months ago to cancel. After the failure to cancel my account, my card was compromised which is why Shine kept trying to charge my void card. The employee last night tried to charge me nearly $60 and refused to let me tan without letting me explain that I already canceled months prior and should still have tans on my account and no outstanding balance. I have been a loyal customer for a while and have waited nearly hours at times to tan without complaint. When I called to cancel months ago I was set on hold for over 15 minutes twice, and finally got a hold of an employee who said she would do it. Maybe it is my fault I trusted an employee that perhaps did not know how to cancel, but to be treated how I was last night was incredibly disrespectful. I should still have tans that carried over prior to my cancelation. To withhold me of what I have already paid for because of Shine's oversight is truly ridiculous. Every time I try to call the manager is never in. Tried e-mailing the store, they don't have an e-mail. Tried using the website's contact feature and received an error message. This store is poorly run and the customer service is awful. I refuse to pay $60 to a store that I don't owe. Sending my business and my friends elsewhere. read more

This is the best spray tan salon! Their hours are great (open until 10:00 pm), and the gals working there could not be nicer! I have been coming here for years, and have ALWAYS had a great experience...and an amazing tan! I brought my 80 year old mother here for a tan, and the staff was amazingly helpful. They were SO patient with her and took the time to make sure Mom had a great experience. The owner, Margaret, has always made sure the customer is well taken care of... excellence customer service!! I WAS a loyal customer for years... but this place has gone down hill. Despite having 5+ tanning booths, it feels like there are only ever 2 booths actually working. This can lead to seriously long wait times on a busier night. In terms of a tanning experience, there are many other place in the area that offer Versa Spa is Versa Pro tans. read more

You get in, get sprayed & get out. It's clean & the girls behind the desk are nice & hustle to keep things moving. However, DO NOT buy product @ Shine. Their product is WAAAAAYY over priced ($48 for pre-tan accelerator/ph balancing cream? $30 for exfoliating mitt/gloves which sell at Schnucks for $3.50?) and they don't take returns if the product doesn't work as promised. Not a return because you didn't like the way it smelled or after you've used 75 percent of the bottle, but when the product doesn't work after 1 use. The $50 cream I was promised would accelerate my tan & make it a darker more natural color did none of the above. In fact, it actually seemed to block the spray tan altogether leaving me a light orange / jaundiced color, much different from my usual spray result using the same color spray. So not only did I waste $50 on the prep cream which didn't deliver, I also wasted a tan that it altered so badly. When I returned to Shine to ask about returning the product I was recommended and sold only 2 days previously, used once & not gotten the results promised I was told that they accept no returns on any product regardless of result. I presented my orange arm as proof. Nope. Didn't matter. No returns. Ever. For anything. So, learn from my mistake. I got up-sold, believed the sales pitch & got duped. Go for your tans but do NOT buy product at Shine. Buy your tan prep, extenders, exfoliators & etc at reputable retailers w/ normal return policies like Sephora, ULTA or even Amazon. read more

Today I went to shine for a spray tan for my homecoming dance tomorrow. I always get an ultra dark in the Versapro. When I got my spray tan I stepped out and began to drip on the floor. It was as if someone had poured the solution directly on my body. Black streaks were running down my legs and back. Although, my arms barely got any color and were spotty. When I walked out to get a worker she gasped at me and made me wipe down my body and try again. The same exact thing happened. After wiping my body down again i was just told to get a medium tint. Thankfully nothing went wrong during my 3rd spray tan. After my second spray tan I was asked if I had any plans and if I could go home and shower and then come back. Ridiculous. I was given no discounts and the worker briefly apologized as I was walking out of the door almost an hour after originally walking in. Will NEVER be coming back. read more

My color always turns out great, the pricing plans they have are awesome and I've always been met with friendly, helpful service. Please note that Thursday is the busiest business day so if you do go on a Thurs expect a longer wait. That being said, the gals working here work their bootys off to get everyone in and out as quickly as possible and are cleaning the rooms the second someone walks out in order to get the next customer in as promptly as possible. They have two different solutions so if someones name is called before yours yet they walked in after you it may just be because they're using the other solution, not organizational problems. So I used to tan once a week and stopped going to Shine a few months ago. I had three visits in a row where the booth wouldn't start and had to be moved to a different room after already waiting 30 plus minutes. All the girls who work there are SO sweet and work so hard to accommodate everyone. It's tough though because I've been in before on a night before a dance/prom and there is only one girl working trying to get everyone in and out--they need more help. And I have experienced super aggressive sales tactics which have totally turned me off and I have began tanning elsewhere due to this. read more

But instead of the worker finishing what she was doing first then going back to help, she would stop working with the new customer to go help this woman yet again and again. I love Shine in Des Peres. Every time I've gone, the owner has offered her honest suggestions for color and type of spray tan. She listens to why I'm there and offers her insight - and she's been spot on every time. Trust me, I've tried many kinds of self tanner, but nothing beats the quick, in-and-out, fast drying spray tan that lasts for days and doesn't stain / turn me orange. This is the worst tanning place I have ever been to. I wanted to get a spray tan and the booth stopped working before I even got in so I had to switch rooms and when I got into the new room the spray did not spray correctly and left me with spots and streaks all over my body even after I bought all the products the manager recommended. After that the manager charged my debt card twice and would not refund me the money for charging me twice for a single tan. I love shine sunless tanning spa. The owner, Margaret, is fantastic. I have been tanning at shine for over a year and I have never had a bad experience. I have only had to wait for a room maybe once or twice in the entire year. And on those occasions where I did have to wait, it was a Friday or Thursday right before a holiday so you can expect any decent tanning salon to have a lot of business on those days. I was one of those people who had a bad experience with sunless tan when it first came out in the early 2000s and swore I would never go back. The first time I went to shine I knew I would be OK. They have versa spa and Norvell and I like both. My tan usually last about a week. The salon is very clean and everyone who works there is friendly and knowledgeable. read more

Usually I would rate shine 5/5 but this last experience was not good. I went in to get a spray tan and nobody was there, it looked like the place was closed. I walked in and waited then someone came out and put me in one of the booths. It wasn't a big deal. I was supposed to get a dark spray tan but it barely showed up at all. I hate to give a low review because the ONLY girl working was so sweet. Taylor worked so hard and treated everyone with respect despite having 8 customers in line. But management speaks for itself when they leave one young person in charge on Friday night in the middle of summer. This would obviously be a high volume night, the franchise owner or manager should have been aware they were short staffed and be able to help out.
