I didn't even know that this building used to the First Bank of Salem until I saw the sign this time. I love the candles here and again the whole shop feels very homey and regal at the same time. I know that when it comes to Gothic culture and aesthetics, it's bound to cost a lot. I have my own thoughts about that as a whole and capitalism but now it's not really the time for that. I do acknowledge that a lot of the items in the store are from smaller businesses or meticulously made which is why I don't really have an issue with the prices. This place used to have quite a variety of Gothic fashions for men and women in here and I have found it to be incredibly minuscule. Other than the shoe section, I have never seen so many shirts that represents Salem in the store and barely anything else. I would come in here and find a ton of horror. Movie shorts, funny shirts, nice dresses and tops for women and etc.. Needless to say I was not impressed. I would hope that things are going to change when it gets closer to the October season, but they used to have things like this all year round which is very disappointing that they did not have the things I was looking for during my visit again.

And then go to Circus Lane and buy your souvenir. Literally each vendor had at least one vintage/antique/historic/unique/Salem made piece of the Gables. I walked out with a gorgeous *framed and signed* copper etching from a local artist and an original unused postcard from what looks like the 40s. Also bought two vintage lanterns with hand painted parrots on them, and obviously a Tshirt with the store's logo. Because it's Salem after all, but only if you know. And I love stuff like that.

I found a vintage postcard I really liked but unfortunately we didn't find anything else we wanted. When I went to check out, it came to $3. I asked if they used Venmo or cashapp, or if using a card on such a small purchase was a possibility. The woman checking us out (older with glasses) asked if we had cash. I apologized and said I didn't. She then said, "Wow, really, none of you have cash?" One of my friends apologized, saying we had just come from another store. She then blatantly chastised us, saying, "None of you have even $3?" We've all needlessly apologized at this point and she's just being mean. I tell her it's okay and turn to leave. She's then calling after me saying "Wow, you're not even going to buy and are just going to leave? We can do credit." At that point, I was out the door. I get that it's not ideal to use card for a small purchase. She could have said, "Sorry, we have a $5 card minimum" if she didn't want to make the sale. She could have just rang it up if she did want to make the sale. What I don't understand is why she would be so rude and antagonistic. I won't be coming back and will recommend others skip this shop.
