My husband and I went to dinner here on 7/9. A Thursday! We drove from Elkhorn, because I've seen reviews on several food groups I belong to. Everything(other than trying to find parking) was phenomenal! There was a line when we walked in. The host came back from seating a couple. He motioned for us to come up. Asked if we had reservations(no) said it'd be at least 30 min. So I asked if we could sit at the bar. Yes! Instead of just letting us walk into the bar he walked us there! Not many places do that. It's find a seat on your own. We love the bar, but if you don't get reservations. Our waitress Louisa greeted us right away and was very friendly. We ordered drinks I tried their house Japanese lager(it's very good) husband got wine. we ordered the spicy edamame good but extremely spicy as we get older we can't handle really spicy food. Husband got the baby octopus salad and I got the seaweed we both enjoyed these. We like more nigiri or sashimi style shish than the rolls but do enjoy rolls too. We ordered the hamachi sashimi & nigiri, madai nigiri, toro(tuna) nigiri, maguro nigiri and chefs kiss. Oh I had to add a hot miso soup because we were sitting in front of where they make sushi and a vent was right above and I was freezing(take a sweater with you even in the summer) The miso is the best I've ever had! Everything was exceptional: Beautifully presented and fresh. We used to love another place in town. Going quite often several times a month, but just don't care for it anymore. This place amazed us both! We were talking with Louisa(our server) and telling her how much we enjoyed everything and drove from Elkhorn. She asked us if we would talk with one of the owners as it was their soft opening. Tom came over and it was an absolute pleasure speaking with him and learning about the design of the place, menu and more. He let us finish our meal and came back. Asked how everything was and we said exceptional from the service presentation and taste(other than that too spicy edamame) I'd get the regular next time. He then asked us if we'd like a tour. To show us the tea room and about some of the decor. He first showed us date night alley. Very cute area set up for two with a half wall near a wall of windows. He walked us around showing us decor and art and explaining the meaning behind them. He then took us to the tea rooms. Very beautiful! The beauty is everywhere in this restaurant including the women's bathroom. We had an amazing night and will definitely be back! Louisa is one of the best servers we've had in the area! I came all the way from Houston, Texas, and Shiki was one of the best restaurants I visited in Omaha. The customer service was outstanding, the manager was welcoming, and the food was amazing. This restaurant is cute, but it has a lot of growing to do before it's service and food can match its esthetic. Made a reservation for 10 well in advance. Day of, they were not ready for us and asked if we wanted to be seated together or apart. It ended up taking 20 minutes past our reservation to seat us. Ordered some appetizers and did not end up receiving two of them until after most people had their entrees. People also received their food at different times leaving multiple people without plates of food for a while after some had already had their food. I personally only had the hakkaido chicken which was bland and dry. Another friend had the pasta and believes she now has food poisoning. All others had sushi and had no complaints. So maybe come here just for the sushi and nothing else, at least until they've had some time to fix their problems. Redeeming quality is that the wait staff are so kind and attentive! read more

Holy cow - Shiki left me speechless!! Everyone has been raving about this place and I was excited to finally try it! It is GORGEOUS!! Our waitress, Jordyne, was so awesome! She checked on us a bunch, gave us recs, and went out of her way to give us the best time! I struggled with what drink to pick and she curated the perfect option - Lychee Martini. I was nervous but it's my new favorite cocktail!! Our rolls were all so different from each other which was great but I HIGHLY recommend the Oahu Roll! We got a spicier one and a pretty basic roll and they complemented each other so nicely! Somehow after all that food, Jordyne convinced us to get the chocolate cake. I was stunned when I had my first bite. This was not a regular cake it was like the smoothest mousse cake! Could have a slice every day! Very cool sushi dinner experience! We came here for a girls dinner and it was the perfect place! The interior is so pretty and has different themed spaces you can sit in: Cherry blossom room, tea room...All are great options. We were sat in the tea room since we had a larger group. We made reservations (which I suggest) and were sat quickly. Service was great. Food was delicious! It was nice to come with a group so we could try a bit of everything. The menu was a bit confusing - included both a burger and linguine that were "Japanese inspired" but it seemed a bit disjointed. I'm under the impression shiki is owned by flagship as I noticed some similar rolls but the food is much better at Blue. The soft opening of Shiki was a slam dunk and I have a feeling it's only going to get better as they settle in. Let's start with the decor: absolutely breathtaking. The cherry blossom display is something else entirely, and knowing the owner assembled it himself makes it even more special. The space has a real intentionality to it that you don't always see in new restaurants. Speaking of the owner, I was genuinely impressed to see him in the kitchen cooking and taking time to educate his servers during service. That kind of hands-on leadership says a lot about the standard he's setting for this place. We went on a Tuesday around 5pm (we had a reservation) and were seated easily, though the restaurant filled up fast -- by the time we left at 6:30, it was buzzing. The menu is extensive in the best way; our group had a hard time narrowing it down because everything looked incredible. We shared a couple of appetizers and a few rolls, and every single bite was wonderful. The standout for me was the Viva Las Vegas roll -- absolutely delicious. The drinks were also on point; I had the Momo and a lychee martini and loved both. One small hiccup: I had specifically reserved the tea room, but we ended up seated in the bar area instead. I'll admit I was a little disappointed at first, but the bar area is gorgeous -- the cherry blossoms are on full display and watching the chefs work is genuinely entertaining. So while it wasn't what I planned, it was still a wonderful experience. If anything, the tea room mix-up just gives me an excuse to go back -- which I absolutely plan to do! read more

A few friends and I went to go check out Shiki now that it is open, and were highly impressed! I would definitely recommend a reservation, as this place was filling up fast as we got there. The inside was beautiful and definitely a restaurant appropriate for all events. The cherry blossoms on the ceiling added such an elegant touch. There was a variety of different seating options too that were unique. Even the presentation of the food was elevated and on theme. The staff were super kind. I could tell our server was learning the ropes a bit, but she was still attentive to our needs despite it being new and busy. Overall the food quality was really good. The crab felt like it was actual crab and not imitation, and the salmon was soft and buttery. The only downside was the variety of the menu. As a person who is gluten free, I was very limited on options to choose from. I'd love to see the menu expanded to offer some more variety. I will not take a star, because the rolls I could get were still excellent. In the end, this is such a beautiful addition to the Dundee area, and will be a restaurant I return to in order to try more of the menu. I don't even know where to begin with this review! Which is a good thing because this place knocked it out of the park! I can see this being an Omaha staple/favorite and give places like Blue and Hiro a run for their money. First off, the ambiance and decor of the place is absolutely gorgeous. It's so elevated and chic, this would be a perfect girl's night out or date night spot! Second, the service was amazing. Every worker we encountered was extremely nice. Since it was the first night of full capacity, the manager even took time to stop by and chat with us which was super fun. She even offered us a comped dessert! Lastly, the food...the food! Everything we ordered was top tier. We ordered a bunch of apps and small plates to try as much as possible and I think I could have had 14 more plates of everything. I was not expecting the hot rock beef to be as tender and tasty as it was but it changed my world. Not only is this dish a fun experience but it's actually delicious too! I highly recommend it. I could go on and on about the food and everything we had but you just need to try it for yourself. I can't wait to go back and try different rolls and apps. The only thing I would say is that the butter chicken lettuce wraps could come with a little more chicken. This was a bit hard to share because there wasn't much chicken to go around with 4 of us splitting it (but I would recommend getting this app - it was so good!) We were told that this menu was smaller for the soft opening but if we weren't told that we would have thought it was final because there were already so many options! My sister took me for my birthday and I was very impressed. It was so beautiful with blossoms falling from the ceiling. Our server was very accommodating and explained they are still under a soft opening. We all shared delicious salmon sashimi regular and belly, toko. Melt in my mouth. To start off, our waiter Aydan was phenomenal. He had amazing recommendations and I was very pleased with how he handled all our questions. He also wished us a happy anniversary, offered to take our photo, and got us complementary champagne! The other reviews say the same about the menu, very similar dishes to another Omaha sushi restaurant (Bl*e). The rolls here are better than the other restaurant, better quality. I liked the Philly roll a lot, very good fish! I think this is a better restaurant than Bl*e but not as good as Umami or Yoshitomo. *Edit* The rolls that are house specials didn't seem to have that great of a reputation, we were told anything but the chef special was good. I think that's important to note if you have something that's starred on a menu, it should be the best on there. We had the peach and apple sake to drink, they were given to us in glasses which I giggled at. I liked the peach a lot, reminded me of a peach ring candy! I was not expecting to get a $10 order of sake in a wine glass.. but whatever they think sets them apart I guess! They sadly didn't have the mango mousse for dessert. Apparently they haven't had any of their desserts for a while because of their order being messed up, so this does mean their dessert is not made in house. The restaurant itself is definitely a place for picture girlies and people! It's very very very cute inside the Cherry Blossom room! But My favorite of the dinner was the miso soup--it was served piping hot and had an excellent flavor. We ended the meal with the mango custard pie--this wasn't our favorite as it was not sweet enough in my opinion. Don't be fooled by the decor, this is NOT an authentic Japanese or Asian fusion restaurant. Most of the 5-star Yelp reviews seem to come from influencers who were given free food in exchange for reviews. Also, this restaurant isn't even new anymore; it opened on May 6, which has been more than enough time to work out the issues. We had a reservation for a party and still waited over 40 minutes to be seated. The only saving grace was the service, the wait staff was friendly and clearly doing the best they could with what they were given. Unfortunately, the food was bland and lacked any real Asian flavor or identity. It felt more like a restaurant pretending to be Asian-inspired than one that actually understands the cuisine. To make matters worse, it's overpriced -- $22 for a plain burger with absolutely no Asian-inspired elements, something you could easily get at any other pub for around $14. read more

I don't even know where to begin with my review. This place is AMAZING! Our dining experience from start to finish was perfect. We made reservations here for my best friends 40th birthday celebration and let's just say A TIME WAS HAD We had to initially wait 10 -12 minutes for our table and then was informed that the table before us was still there so they ended up moving us to a different table in the same section, which was just fine. We had a great time catching up at the bar, interacting with the bartenders, and watching them make all those fancy drinks. Diana shared that the owner hand-crafted the beautiful cherry blossoms hanging from the ceiling, while Blake highlighted the intricate wood-carved dragons displayed on the walls. I started writing this review a few weeks ago when we originally stopped by for the soft opening, but I've just dropped by again to pick up another roll for take-out and realized it never posted. The restaurant is super cute, very eclectic and cool, and the staff seems fairly efficient. The menu is well laid out and even has a vocabulary "guide" for Japanese food terms. The parking situation is, bluntly put, totally ass, lol. Best to uber, honestly. They partnered with a local brewery to make their own Japanese lager, which is decent, nice and light and definitely true to the traditional lager taste. My boyfriend's chicken came out much earlier than my sushi did, which was fine as we know they're hammering out their timing as they're only just opening officially. The Cajun-Japanese fusion of the chicken dish was AMAZING, so extremely unique and something that makes you raise your eyebrows, but absolutely phenomenal. He inhaled it before my sushi could even get to us! The sushi was great, the fish seems high quality which is always great to find in a landlocked state. The plating was so fancy especially for somewhat averagely priced rolls, so you really feel like you're getting a deal. There's so many unique flavors that I can't wait to come back and try! The staff is all very kind and handling the overwhelming busyness very well for how new this place is. I'm sitting at the bar solo in slippers this time, as I finish writing this up. This review is for the *soft open* of this restaurant. I was assured by several staff members that their menu will be expanding by quite a bit once they are after the grand opening. To summarize: this is definitely a place that you should check out for the sushi offerings as well as the hot meals and drinks. All are innovative and interesting and look like worth trying to me. I just can't say enough about the service, food, and drinks. Louisa was my server and one of the most impressive things about this location is how excited Louisa was to be a part of this new opening. She was excited about the drinks, the food, the location, everything. That says something really big to me. I first ordered a Cobra Kai drink that is tequila based and very citrus forward. I recommend it, even though the tajin and sesame powder on the lip of the drink was a little too sharp for me. (It was perfect for me without the rim spice.) The aperol flavor really enhanced the raw dishes I enjoyed in my visit. I started with the hamachi (or yellowtail) sashimi which had just been sliced minutes earlier in the kitchen. It was stellar. I didn't add any soy sauce or Wasabi for my first few bites; nevertheless, the freshness and clean flavor of the hamachi came through and was absolutely excellent. This restaurant does offer regular soy sauce, low sodium soy sauce, and gluten-free tahini as dipping options. The next item I tried is the salmon belly or sake toro sushi, which was served with salmon roe on top. This salmon belly literally melted in my mouth. So fresh and buttery and delicious, especially with that little salty pop of roe on top -- a real treat. If you enjoy salmon at all, you should try it. I also loved the fatty tuna spicy tuna roll, which I have never had made with the tuna belly before, I and let me tell you, it was fantastic. There's an added ingredient to their spicy tuna mix that I couldn't tell exactly what it was, but really enhances the flavor and that unctiousness of the fatty tuna was absolutely fantastic and I can't wait to order it again. I went for lunch time so only had those three items but every single one was fresh, generously portioned, and absolutely stunning. Shiki is still in its soft opening phase and honestly, you can tell, but I also see a lot of potential here. The space itself absolutely lives up to the hype. The decor is stunning, from the pink cherry blossom ceiling installation to the murals and artwork throughout the restaurant. Small touches like purse hooks and the underlighting at the bar made the whole place feel really intentional. Service was a little uneven during our visit. Our server seemed extremely nervous and uncomfortable, and I waited about 18 minutes for a prosecco. That said, our water glasses were constantly being refilled by multiple staff members, which I really appreciated. Everyone seemed to be trying hard, even if things weren't running smoothly yet. The menu is currently somewhat limited, especially for gluten free options, which made it difficult for my friend to find choices. Food-wise, the King of the Jungle Roll and the Yummy Roll were both fantastic. They were large enough to share, I'd love to be back for the King if the Jungle again. I got to try the Crunchy Hollywood from a friend's plate and was so jealous, it was fantastic. We also shared the Mango Mousse dessert, which actually sits on a light cake crust. It was airy, refreshing, and not overly sweet at all. The only thing I would actively not recommend was the sake (salmon) nigiri, which unfortunately had a strong chemical taste to it. Overall, I think Shiki has some growing pains to work through, but the atmosphere is gorgeous and there are already some standout dishes on the menu.
