I think these folks are straight-up. Good repairs cost money, and yeah, you're gonna pay repair shop mark-up for parts. That's the way it works. They gotta use the parts they know are good, or they can't guarantee the work. If you wanna to buy your own parts, then unless you are using a shade-tree mechanic, you are also gonna do your own work. I appreciate the ability to discuss details of costs and options, and I feel these folks are clear in those discussions. Dishonest and unprofessional. Bought truck in because of lean issue and low fuel pressure. Proposed all kinds of work not related to my issue, charged me $1,000 to change fuel pump. Truck still isn't right, check engine light came back on, same day I left the shop. Invoice stated fuel pump cost $300. Same fuel pump at O'Reilly's- $139. You need to understand why I sought to find a reliable Auto Care company that would meet my needs. I have never owned a used car in my adult life. I now have a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 with 203k miles. The first thing I needed to do was to get it totally inspected so that I knew for certain what I was dealing with. I could have driven from my home on the hilltop to Grove City or to North Columbus but I wanted to see if something local would meet my needs. SHIFFLET'S met and exceeded my needs and expectations. Located on Sullivant Avenue just east of Demorest and on the south edge of Westgate Park SHIFFLET'S is convenient and they provide a shuttle, drop box availability, towing, a cool lobby, car rental services and both highly skilled ASE mechanics and office and support personnel that you wouldn't want anything more. This might not make sense but it has to be one of those little tiny things they have and that they use that really appeals to me... they text message on an isolated text line that you as a customer have access to. My inspection report with pictures came as a link in a text message. Updates were sent. It is so much easier using text messaging than playing phone tag around your availability to voice talk. Prices are so competitive that I don't believe price will be the factor that pushes your decision to use their services. I believe that their commitment to the customer by highly skilled long-time employees in a family-owned shop will be the deciding factors in choosing SHIFFLET'S. Made a appointment 2 weeks in advance. Dropped my car off for a diagnostics test @9 called @11:45 was told they are "barley keeping their heads above water" I have no idea what that meant. Asked if my car was going to be checked out anytime today. Man at desk said he wasn't sure. They have a lot going on.. I think we both were confused why he is answering phones and running a business. read more

I brought my car in early afternoon for repairs (breaks and rotors). They were the most inexpensive around. They had to order parts and still had it completed by the next morning. The staff is also extremely helpful and friendly. I highly recommend. read more

Mike and his crew do a GREAT job and I trust them fully with my truck. Not only are they honest and hardworking you can tell they truly care about their customers! True story; last time I took my truck in for an oil change there was an elderly lady getting her car back. She was so happy with the service she recieved, she gave her mechanic Chris (Mike's son) a hug! I can't imagine there are very many mechanics getting hugs on the job from happy customers. I'm not a car person. Car started to make a weird noise from the wheels, and had a strange smell after getting out. A friend said breaks, but I didn't hear any sounds when breaking. After searching for auto mechanics on the westside I Took my car into Shifflet and got to support a local westside / Hilltop auto mechanic. Upon arrival, i parked and went in. I was greeted, asked questions, they then had someone drive it, and right away, he came back and said breaks. Ugh. So I got the quote, they took the car into garage bay to start it. Upon getting the wheel off, they (and then I) found bad routers. I said let's replace them. They were able too at a very fair cost. (I did price comparison shopping via google and even called Midis & Tire Discounter, both came in around the same.) the work was taking a little longer, so left car, went home. The next day was Friday, I ended up working late so didn't make it in time to pay and pick up car. I called that same evening and Shifflet came in on Sat afternoon to let me pay and pick up the car. Talk about service. Driving the car home, I didn't know breaks could work so well, going to take me sometime to get use too. Good service, fair prices, down to earth & fair mechanics and best yet, is a local westside / Hilltop small business. We went to Shifflet to support the local neighborhood. We had a truck, older, in great condition, with air that wouldn't work. They repaired it, at great cost, and the air worked for all of 2 days. We brought the truck back, they said it was a different leak or issue, and they would have to repair it again. At great cost. Against our better judgement, we went ahead and had the work done, and paid AGAIN. That was the fall. The air worked for the week more we needed it. We just tried it again, as it is spring. Dead. No air. We will NEVER go back. The first job should have been fixed, not "done again" and charged again. They were rude, and frankly, disrespectful when we tried to get answers after the first repair. Do not go to SHIFFLET. Overpriced, rude, and they do not stand behind their work. read more

This shop stands behind their word and work. They also have a drop off/ pick up service if you don't have transportation available. I had a very easy experience. The gentleman who worked with me, Bart, was very friendly, informative, and sincere in his evaluation of my needs. I came in knowing I needed new brake pads. As they inspected my vehicle, Bart offered recommendations of a few other items to look at that I verified after some research, needed to get done. He was very helpful in explaining the importance of each item and made sure I was getting multiple rebates for the parts. All in all, I probably could have gotten a better deal at some other local mechanics but it was well worth it in information and service. Took my car in because it wouldn't accelerate as it should. The tech ran the diagnostics, found it was an internal transmission issue. He read up, and found that Nissan had an extended warranty for the problem. Rather than just telling me I needed a new transmission and charging me, they called the local dealership, and found I was covered. This saved me quite a bit of money - this was REALLY above and beyond! read more

On a scale of 1-10 with one being the worst I would rate them at -100 and should actually be no stars Charged to say the transmission needed repaired ( something that was already known) then quoted $5-6000 over and above the diagnostic rip off plus the unneeded repairs (800.00) they done. Car went to a reputable transmission shop (Central Ohio Transmission) on the east side and was quoted less than 1/4 of Shifty's price without even telling them about Shifty's quote. They did not even know the car had been at Shiftless's place. Car is fixed now, it was done in a day and a half, runs great and even has a warranty, something you don't get from Shifty Shiftless. Places like this give honest repair shops a bad name, they really should not be allowed to be in business. they need to be turned over to the A.G. office or change their name to "Shifty and Shiftless Criminal Enterprise." One of the biggest rip offs in the city, all that can be said is "BEWARE". read more

Horrible Business Practice "Why bad reviews are true" The business practice here is crazy, they are more eager to tell you off and rip you off then ""help you"". I got a 3 pack of free oil changes. That turns out to be free + hidden fees. I couldn't imagine trying to get something fixed or repaired here that they had to look at or was a $100+ fix. It would probably cost triple. So I try to get my 2nd of the 3 free oil changes I am supposed to get "because I paid for it", but they want to pull some crap about it being a different vehicle not my wife's original vehicle. Who cares I get 5 quarts of oil, 1 filter and wait an hour and a half, to still pay them 8 bucks for my free oil change, I already purchased. The worst thing about it, they are more than happy to tell me off and send me out then try to work something out. No 5 bucks more for the confusion difference whatever, no anything tuff **** go away. This is ridiculous who really cares what car had the first oil change I paid for 3 oil changes already, the horrible deal of a free oil change pack plus hidden fees and grief on getting something legitimate. I feel sorry for anyone who feels they have to go here to get repairs. I'm sure they can muster up some friends, family and co-workers to bury me review but this is why bad reviews are true. read more

I had a very positive result with Shifflet Auto. I had some bulbs out on my newly purchased USED vehicle. They replaced them and replaced a lighter socket for a reasonable rate. I had to return to have tires checked due to air leakage and they referred me to another company because they could not repair the tire. There was no charge for looking at the tires. Everyone was so friendly as soon as I walked into the door up until I left. Every single worker said hi to me as they walked by! They have a large screen tv to watch while you wait...in which I watched Dirty Dancing! They also have snacks and water in the fridge you can help yourself too for a small price. As a woman sometimes men can be disrespectful at an auto shop or try to take advantage. These guys treat me with complete respect and never tried to sell me anything I didn't need. Lots of points for them in my book!! Service was excellent on my vehicle! I love that you get an inspection with every oil change. They literally check everything!! Thankfully everything was ok! I had went to Monro Muffler previously for an oil change and they told me my tires were worn and I need new ones immediately, which isn't true. They also didn't reset my system for the oil so my said -4000. Highly recommend trying this place!!! read more

Very disappointed. I try to shop local so I took a car in for estimate to fix a window motor and check the AC. quoted over 400 for the window and over 1600 for the AC and had to pay over 100 just for the check out. Went to another local shop and got the window motor replaced and the AC pressure tested, only to find it has a small leak, he recharged and put in dye to find the leak. All this for $240 and both the AC and window working fine. This place owes me $111.56 and should be ashamed of themselves read more

An absolute rip off. Told me that they would check my brakes for free and then charged me $200 when I wouldn't have them repaired there because the quote was outrageous. Charged me $140 in labor JUST TO PUT IN A NEW BATTERY!! Yes, at $90/hour labor (which is outrageous in and of itself), that's 1 1/2 hours just to put in a battery. Small Claims Court and Better Business Bureau, here we come! I would give them zero stars if I had the option. read more

I would never take anything there to be worked on. We took an RV there to be worked on that was stalling. We paid over $6000 in work and waited 2 months and they still couldn't get it running. They would tell us it was good to go so we would take it and drive it less than 10 miles and it would quit. Then they cut a hole in the gas tank without our permission and then couldn't find a replacement. They continued to check around and than said it would be another $2000. So they had us caught. It was running when we took it in and then spent $6000 and then it was completely inoperable since they cut the gas tank open. So we either had to pay another $2000 and wait 2 more months or choose to take a $6000 loss. They were also never available to talk to. They said we had to talk to Mike Sr but he was always "out of town" and "not sure when he'll be back". Horrible experience and lost not only the RV but $6000. read more

If it is just a simple oil change, brakes, tires, or a major repair this is the place to go. Fair pricing and it will be fixed right the first time. I would like to leave a better review but i can't. I had an issue with my parking light and my local mechanic in London, Ohio recommended this place for electrical work. I had an electric diagnostic test done at this place and they told me it would cost around $600+ (including the test) to fix my parking light and fog light. They said that the wires in the back would need replaced as well as a 4-way Flasher switch. $600 to fix a parking light?!?! Well i took it to another trusted local mechanic and he took apart my front end and told me that my lights weren't even plugged in!!! The connection wires were just laying there unplugged, that someone must have unplugged them and not plugged them back in!! All my mechanic had to do was plug in my lights and they started working!! He only charged me $30!! i paid $123 for an electronic test at Shifflet and they couldn't tell me that my lights weren't plugged in?! Instead they wanted me to pay $600 to fix my parking light and FOG light?! I am now telling my local mechanics about what happened so they will no longer recommend this place to customers!! They ripped me off. Period. read more

Took my car in last Friday for a routine prepaid oil change and tire rotation. Imagine my surprise when I received a phone call to tell me that during the tire rotation SHIFFLET staff broke off my stud and that *I* had to pay $120 in labor plus the part to fix. I have since spoken with several other auto centers - including the one my brother runs out of state - all who concur that I should not have to pay for this. In fact, a couple people I spoke with seemed incensed that someone would charge for that. I would even understand just paying for a part - but not the labor. Totally ridiculous. I brought my car in without a problem - something is broken while your staff is working on it - and *I* am expected to pay for it? Absurd. I was given the stud that was "cross-threaded" and showed it to another mechanic - he said it did not in any way look cross threaded to him. It's truly unfortunate, because I really had hoped that I had finally found a place where I could take my vehicles on a consistent basis for all of their maintenance needs.
