The prices are a bit higher than I'd expect, and the employees help is hit-or-miss. However, if you get one of their super-helpful employees, you'll seriously love your experience. Long Version: Fantastic experience today at The Home Depot over in Waterloo. I started off at Menards as it was closer to me, but after I was told that Menards couldn't cut the lumber I needed AND they couldn't special-order the part I needed, I chose to try out The Home Depot and see what went on. The store itself is surprisingly clean. There's a Lumber area, and they have Lumber carts. They have a small clearance area near the restrooms. Unlike Menards, some of the prices are a bit high, and Home Depot doesn't seem to offer the "super cheap" doorbusters that Menards offers either. That was slightly disappointing. Employees seemed hit-or-miss. Some of them seemed particularly helpful and really wanted to help while others seemed to be mostly ignoring me. Both versions work fine. However, I did receive different responses from various employees as to whether the store carried things, so that was frustrating. (Turns out that they did carry it!) I wish the employees were on the same page. There was a guy in the Lumber department named Joe who was BEYOND helpful. I came in with some measurements and a general idea of what I wanted done, and he helped me pick out the wood type, explained the differences, and cut it for me. This is something Menards said they just couldn't do, but Joe had no issue with it. After that, I figured I might as well look into finding a good shelf for my cabinet, and that wood needed to be cut to size as well. I asked a nearby employee if that was something they could do, and she said "definitely not". Okay. Well, I thought I'd check with Joe to be sure. He said it would be no issue at all, and he cut it exactly how I needed it. My review would probably be average at best if it wasn't for Joe. Looks like the employees are hit-or-miss in helpfulness, but Joe honestly made this somewhere I'll come back to just for the lumber department because of him!

Then the product didn't get ordered so it had to be reordered lost my install day so then had to wait another 6 weeks. And then today one guy shows up to to do the project starts measuring checking the level says he can't do It but that he had another crew that could do it but then after talking with home depot he says he didn't say that and this is crew 2!!! Guy shows up says he didn't have the quarter round listed on what he had to do also I paid for the flooring to be removed and hauled away he comes with a pick-up truck!!!! A week ago my husband ordered an outdoor build it yourself fire pit on menards.com. Online it promised that we would have to load the blocks ourselves from the garden center but the fire ring and the adhesive tubes would be set aside for us at the back special order pick up in the lumber yard. Because we ordered online we had to go in and check in at the desk and get a print out of what we were picking up. At the desk two employees again said the fire ring and adhesive would be back in the lumber yard. After a long wait at the return desk for an even exchange and watching the crew leader show attitude to employees we drove around to get our fire pit materials. An employee helped load our blocks but said we would have to go back inside and get the ring and adhesive off the shelf. We asked about how we were told they would be set aside and he said they just grab them from the shelf. The guy said he'd grab the ring for us but my husband would have to go get the adhesive from the paint center. On the total opposite side of the store from the garden center. I waited in the truck with my son while they went to retrieve the items. My husband came back but the employee never did with the fire ring. So we had to again go find someone to figure out what was going on. They told us we'd have to go inside and retrieve it ourselves. At this point my husband was ticked. What's the benefit of ordering online for ease of pick up? Tonight's Menards visit was a complete waste of an hour and a half.

Over the last few months I've had a couple less than satisfying experiences with Menards as a whole…read more- including but not limited to, my Menards account being compromised and my card information stolen and used to purchase almost $1000 in items in store. Then most recently, I purchasing an item online with one description, and when receiving it, it being different than advertised. Every time I've attempted to reach out to any employee within the Cedar Falls store specifically regarding any issue or concern I've had, I've received the most atrocious customer service. While I understand that certain situations can't necessarily be handled at a store level - there are certain things that can be done when you're working with someone face to face - minimally some empathy, or an apology for the inconvenience. My experiences have always handled by the employees I've worked with by defensiveness, surface level service, and empty words. I've never received any actual SERVICE when it comes to dealing with issues in store. I personally worked in customer service for 15+ years. Almost a decade of that as a customer experience manager at a retail store - so trust me when I say that I understand certain things are out of a workers control, even a managers control. But, there are many things that can be controlled. One of those things is how you handle yourself at your job, and during specific situations. After coming in to the store today to attempt to deal with a situation of a defective item - I left the counter frustrated (with no resolution). As I am still in the store, I see the manager I was just dealing with walk directly from our encounter over to a coworker and give them the 'eyes' and have some words that I can only image was about the 'difficult' customer that she was just dealing with. I'm going to assume she didn't realize that I observed this (because that's better than the alternative that she just didn't care). It really does blow my mind how someone can provide the bare minimum amount of customer service and then when a customer walks away frustrated at that bare minimum service they've received, an employee has the audacity to roll their eyes as if they had done all they could do, with the implication that the customer is being irrational. I'm a younger person that works really hard for what I have - so when the issues I've had with Menards cost me around $1000 THIS YEAR alone, and no resolution has been provided, I guess I have to resort to Yelp reviews in the hopes that my concerns will be heard and addressed.

I brought it in and Ryan was supposed to do it because he was the "window guy". After two weeks, I went to go pick up the window because Ryan said it was ready, but not to come in until the following day so the glazing could set. I did as I was told and showed up the next day to find the glazing not even completely covering the area and Ryan off for the next five days. When I looked at the caulk replacement, some of it was only HALF of the strip needed. When I went to go pay, the cashier could tell I was not happy. She offered very politely to call the manager. Rich came down and asked if I would like Ryan to redo it because this is not normally his quality. I said, "Yes". I went back five days later and Ryan tried to blame me for his poor quality work. I told him, "No. Even Rich agreed with me that your quality was poor." Then when I went to go pay for it, they tried to charge me an additional $10! I said it was $55 last week. The cashier said, "oh sorry, sorry!" and brought the price back down instantly. The store is neat. The people are generally helpful when they're not trying to push something more expensive on you, but that's another story.
