Over the last few months I've had a couple less than satisfying experiences with Menards as a whole…read more- including but not limited to, my Menards account being compromised and my card information stolen and used to purchase almost $1000 in items in store. Then most recently, I purchasing an item online with one description, and when receiving it, it being different than advertised. Every time I've attempted to reach out to any employee within the Cedar Falls store specifically regarding any issue or concern I've had, I've received the most atrocious customer service. While I understand that certain situations can't necessarily be handled at a store level - there are certain things that can be done when you're working with someone face to face - minimally some empathy, or an apology for the inconvenience. My experiences have always handled by the employees I've worked with by defensiveness, surface level service, and empty words. I've never received any actual SERVICE when it comes to dealing with issues in store. I personally worked in customer service for 15+ years. Almost a decade of that as a customer experience manager at a retail store - so trust me when I say that I understand certain things are out of a workers control, even a managers control. But, there are many things that can be controlled. One of those things is how you handle yourself at your job, and during specific situations. After coming in to the store today to attempt to deal with a situation of a defective item - I left the counter frustrated (with no resolution). As I am still in the store, I see the manager I was just dealing with walk directly from our encounter over to a coworker and give them the 'eyes' and have some words that I can only image was about the 'difficult' customer that she was just dealing with. I'm going to assume she didn't realize that I observed this (because that's better than the alternative that she just didn't care). It really does blow my mind how someone can provide the bare minimum amount of customer service and then when a customer walks away frustrated at that bare minimum service they've received, an employee has the audacity to roll their eyes as if they had done all they could do, with the implication that the customer is being irrational. I'm a younger person that works really hard for what I have - so when the issues I've had with Menards cost me around $1000 THIS YEAR alone, and no resolution has been provided, I guess I have to resort to Yelp reviews in the hopes that my concerns will be heard and addressed.

When we recently went for outdoor metal paint the guy at the paint desk was very informative and got us exactly what we were looking for. The guy working in the mowers definitely did great he talked me out of buying a basic push mower into the space saver, self propelled push mower and couldn't be happier with my purchase. I have always enjoyed Menards over the other stores here but at times prices are cheaper else where. However push mowers much cheaper here a basic push mower at the others where going for what I paid for the one I purchased!

Then finally you will pick out a phone that you fall in love with, you will think that it was just a one time thing (high hopes?), you trust them when they lie to you , and get home and try to activate it, then BAM. your carrier will tell you that the phone is not unlocked and it still connected with someone else's account and that there's no way you can activate it..... I drove over 200 miles for this to happen , then I call to talk to manager, no one would answer for an hour. When I did talk to someone, that could have cared less, (who was unhelpful and uneducated and useless to me for 1 minute), I dropped the call and lost connection to wifi, (because I was using an App on my "basically new phone") and guess what? No answer from me now.. They must not like being called out on their B. S. Don't trust them .

The employees have always been nice at a minimum. Today I was greeted by an unprofessional employee. She was angry because I lose my words sometimes since my stroke. On her third try asking for a receipt I asked her what part of no doesn't she understand? On her second attempt she abandoned me and went to the office pouting. Then came back for her 3rd try. She proceeded to make rude facial expressions from the time I walked. I asked for help moving the return from my truck inside. I said it was heavy but couldn't get the name to come out due to Aphasia. I told her the exchange product was labeled with my name. She continued to give me dirty looks. So I asked her if she was hungover or something because she was being a "bitch". She responded I don't drink. Then she made a performance of telling the normal young lady via radio that she didn't want to help me. So I loudly said to the other employee who was nearing the back of the store that I didn't want her help. The other 2 employees said you can't call someone that. I said "not only can I call her a bitch, I'll continue to call her one as long as she acts like one. I n the previous 6 weeks I've been in this store at least 3 times a week and never had an issue. A lady who identified herself as the manager said in an offensive tone that she would be calling the main manager today. I responded with go ahead he knows me and if he likes I'll give him a transcript of our conversation from my hearing aids. In loud places I turn on TTY so I can understand what is being said. I ordered two faucets - only one came in the box. When I contacted customer service they told me…read morethe second one would arrive on Thursday. It didn't. I called customer service on Friday and they told me it would arrive by 7:00 pm. It didn't. I called customer service on Saturday and was told that both faucets were in the box. I explained that I had only received one. Of course I didn't save the box or packing because I had been assured by customer service that my second faucet was on the way. I lost $135. I will never step foot in Home Depot again.

The prices are a bit higher than I'd expect, and the employees help is hit-or-miss. However, if you get one of their super-helpful employees, you'll seriously love your experience. Long Version: Fantastic experience today at The Home Depot over in Waterloo. I started off at Menards as it was closer to me, but after I was told that Menards couldn't cut the lumber I needed AND they couldn't special-order the part I needed, I chose to try out The Home Depot and see what went on. The store itself is surprisingly clean. There's a Lumber area, and they have Lumber carts. They have a small clearance area near the restrooms. Unlike Menards, some of the prices are a bit high, and Home Depot doesn't seem to offer the "super cheap" doorbusters that Menards offers either. That was slightly disappointing. Employees seemed hit-or-miss. Some of them seemed particularly helpful and really wanted to help while others seemed to be mostly ignoring me. Both versions work fine. However, I did receive different responses from various employees as to whether the store carried things, so that was frustrating. (Turns out that they did carry it!) I wish the employees were on the same page. There was a guy in the Lumber department named Joe who was BEYOND helpful. I came in with some measurements and a general idea of what I wanted done, and he helped me pick out the wood type, explained the differences, and cut it for me. This is something Menards said they just couldn't do, but Joe had no issue with it. After that, I figured I might as well look into finding a good shelf for my cabinet, and that wood needed to be cut to size as well. I asked a nearby employee if that was something they could do, and she said "definitely not". Okay. Well, I thought I'd check with Joe to be sure. He said it would be no issue at all, and he cut it exactly how I needed it. My review would probably be average at best if it wasn't for Joe. Looks like the employees are hit-or-miss in helpfulness, but Joe honestly made this somewhere I'll come back to just for the lumber department because of him!

They also fixed valve stem for us too. The guy behind the desk named Aaron was very friendly and caring and really easy to talk too. Thank you so much for helping us out in our time of need. The cost of the 2 tires was very reasonable. They even fixed the leaky valve forPlease go to them if you ever need a new trailer tire for your camper. We felt very welcomed and also felt that they completed the job fast and safely for us.
