I have done business with do it yourself on Edgewood for years. I called and told him I was 74 years old. Could they help me get the string weedeater and show me how to put it on. The man said no I can't do that. We're not supposed to Well guess what they should have because I have never been refused for help. Love this hardware store. You can get in, ask for help, receive courtesy, and you will not only find what you need or they will guide to in the right direction. My favorite place besides Lowes. Always nice and friendly! You could shop for hours but you can get in and right the first time. Lots of miscellaneous products and they even have drinks, food, and snacks that you cannot find anywhere else. I rate 5 stars and I would recommend to go look here before any other business/company. read more

For the second time in a row, when visiting this store to get my propane tank filled, they charged me for 20 lbs of propane and I only received 18. Since I was shorted before, I brought a scale to weigh my tank after it was filled. When I brought it to the attention of the employee that I was shorted his response was that my inaccurate scale was not his problem and he turned and walked away. read more

I love this place. It is close to our house. I can walk into the store and I will usually be approached within a few seconds to see what I need help with. Not only will the staff direct me to where I can find my item, they will help with trouble shooting too! I go to Do It Best and find odd and ends and things I wouldn't normally find elsewhere. They have everything (well almost.) The kids love coming into this store too. They like to explore. Lots of neat things to look at and find. Thanks for being there Edgewood Do It Best. Hey what can I saw they were opened till 6pm on a Sunday most hardware stores are closed at 5pm so I was happy to get in there and grab a light switch here instead of having to go to wal-mart! Got what I needed and fixed the light switch for my mom and dad! read more

I called two weeks in advance to reserve a piece of equipment to rent. Had all the materials purchased, showed up the date and time I requested, and they literally rented it to the person in front of me that I held the door open for!! They said they had no record of my reservation, rented it to the other people, and said they'd call me when it was returned later in the day. No one ever called me. The customer service here was a complete joke. Save yourself a headache and hassle and go straight to Home Depot. read more

My husband ran o this store 10 minutes before close to get some screws. He was met by Steve and told they were trying to close and wanted to get off on time. My husband said he has 10 minutes and just needed screws. Steve sighed and acted less than thrilled. My husband came home and shared this and was shocked as this is one of his favorite stores. A couple days later I bought a scrap piece of pipe and asked if it did not work can I return it. I was told I could since it was scrap and I was not the one who had it cut. My husband tried to return it that same night and did not have my debit card so could not. I was able to go in a few days later. I spoke to Steve. He over talked me and would not listen when I tried to explain it was scrap pipe and I did not have it cut and so it was returnable. When I asked him to let me speak he crossed his arms on his chest and sighed heavily and rolled his eyes. I had to come back and speak to Mike (owner) since Steve still had no clue (Which was fine I was more upset over how he acted and we were treated) I returned Monday and spoke to Mike. He remembered me and that he had said we could return the pipe. I thought this would be the end of it but instead he brings up Steve and said "in Steve's defense you have no idea what it's like dealing with customers." I actually work in customer service and have trained it. I hadn't even brought up Steve so at this point I explained how we were treated. Mike still kept insisting I had no clue. I tried to say I just wanted to return the pipe but he still wanted to argue and get the last word in saying "Well we've done customer service a lot longer than you." That may or may not be but he is terrible at it. Learn to SHUT UP and respect your customers. A simple "Hey I apologize let's get that pipe returned" would have been perfect. I told him we shop locally all the time but will never be back. He said he didn't care and still kept talking about terrible customers. No idea why (or how!) this man is in business!. In the end I got my money back and as I did the lady at the counter (Tina I think???) was very personable and connected well despite the owner standing behind her spouting off. :( Sad she has to work with both Steve and Mike. If they think that is good customer service I would hate to see bad! Menards is down the road and a TON CHEAPER! read more

We recently moved back to Cedar Rapids after living in a small town for the past 15 years and I was extremely nervous because I loved the small town atmosphere where everyone knows everyone and businesse owners remember you. I was ready for my first project here and decided to stop at, Edwood Do It Best Hardware & Rental, searching for that small town feel and that's exactly what I got! I was very happy with the gentleman that helped me find the best alternative to a rather expensive project. He was knowledgeable and took time to understand what I was doing and helped me find the perfect product. Then I get to the register where I was greeted by a very nice lady that rang me up very efficiently, we chatted, had a laugh or two and I was on my way! So this morning I realized that I needed more of the rope that I had purchased and called to inquire as to when they would get more as I purchased the last package on the shelf. That's all I said and the lady on the other end of the phone remembered me and she told me exactly what rope and the colors of it before I could even say it! That was awesome in my opinion!! If someone can remember me and my 1 package of rope, can you even imagine the customer service given to regular customers with larger orders?!?! EXCELLENT JOB AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! I absolutely will be shopping for all of my hardware needs there! Thank you to the staff for giving me my small town feel. It means more to me than I can explain! read more

First, they will not match prices of any other stores in the area, and are downright snotty about it. Purchased an item at their store for $17.11. The EXACT same item was $8.53 at a store down the street. Called to talk about the huge price difference and was treated rather rudely on the phone. Will not spend a dime there again. read more
