Sometimes taking a moment to genuinely acknowledge and engage with people can make a big difference, especially for returning customers. Despite the shop being empty, the interactions felt rushed and distracted, and there seemed to be little interest in conversation beyond the transaction itself. At one point, he mentioned frustration about so many coffee shops opening nearby. As someone who appreciates small businesses, I would have gladly offered encouragement or support, but for the third visit in a row, it felt like we were only acknowledged long enough to complete a pastry purchase.
