I'm happy to modify a previous review to express my satisfaction with Sherlock Heating and Air. My wife and I have counted on Sherlock Heating and Air to address our HVAC needs for nearly 6 years now. We happily referred them to friends and family for HVAC needs throughout that time. Our first review is a testament to that. Recently we noticed one of our HVAC units was not blowing as cold as we remembered. We arranged for a service visit and received some unpleasant news about the condition of the condenser coils. After a second visit from one of Sherlock's customer care representatives, my wife and I decided to pause for a bit to understand exactly what the issue was and to be sure we knew all of the options. Given that the news was unexpected, we hadn't assembled or thought of all the questions that began to arise afterwards, however we were presented with a fair amount of detail and some options for repair during the consultation. Shortly thereafter we reached out to Sherlock Heating and Air once again and after some dialogue with the helpful front office we received an email from Aaron Sherlock, the owner of the company, expressing concern about our situation. He offered to take time out of his schedule to personally talk to us and even visit our home to discuss concerns. This was very genuine as I ended up personally talking to him for quite a bit on the phone which helped me understand exactly what the source of concerns were, and clarified a way forward for my wife and I. Real, personal interaction from a corporation seems to be less common these days. Having an owner directly contact you is exceptional. I value the time the Sherlock team took to address our concerns. We learned quite a bit and wish more companies provided post-sales and service support the way they did. read more

I recently had this company install central air and heat in my Pt loma home which had only an old wall heater. I had many estimates over a period of three years, trying to find a good deal on a quality system. Estimates were all over the place and every company had their own equipment preference. I was about to give up but a friend told me to go through Costco. I had never heard of this company (Sherlock) but I decided to have them give me a quote. One thing I have discovered over the years is that the companies who do all the advertising are almost always more expensive. It amazes me how close the estimates from the big companies are to each other! Well, to start out, Sherlock was a little cheaper but the systems they use are top notch quality Lennox. Top of the line efficiency and quality! Plus, due to going through Costco, I saved over 2000$ of the total price! Costco also protects you if there are any problems. I can't say enough good things about my experience with this company. The sales person Nate was very knowledgeable and found a way to save me even more money on a top of the line system. The install went very well. A large team off talented guys came out and it was done in two days! Big John, Vincent, Tony, Victor, Ignacio and all the others were very professional and courteous. They protected my floors and kept dust to a minimum. With any big job there is bound to be a few snags but this crew handled it very well. The system is so quiet I can hardly tell when it is running. If you are looking to have central air and heat put in your home, I just saved you a ton of time and effort trying to find a company you can trust to give you the best in quality, expert installation, price and customer service! read more

How refreshing to have a service company that is awesome in every way! We lost our heat over the weekend and had to wait until Monday morning to call someone (because every company we found that said they were 7 days a week weren't; which worked in favor because we called Sherlock). I phoned about 7:00 am and was told the person for scheduling service would be in shortly. I received a call back from Megan within 15-20 minutes. She was a delight! She said she could have someone out between 8 and 10 that morning. Megan also went over their fees, etc. so there were no surprises. Enoch arrived about 9ish that morning. Again telling me of the service fee before doing any work. Enoch worked on our heater and diagnosed the problem. He provided 5 different solutions and their costs. Enoch was very professional and nice. Because of the age of our system we asked to get a quote on replacing the system. Megan had a sales person, Trevor, out to our home by 11:00. He went over the options available and cost, financing, etc. Absolutely no pressure!!!! So appreciated!!! After weighing all our options we decided to go with a new system. Chad and Reuben arrived on Tuesday (yes, the next day) to install our new system. Again, very professional and nice men who worked hard installing our system. All areas they worked in were thoroughly cleaned up and left in good condition. Their work was exceptional! Our entire experience with Sherlock, and every employee we worked with, was wonderful and will only call them for future HVAC issues. read more

I had a new heat pump installed April 2014 since the original unit was completely out of commission. Since I live in an area where I very rarely need heating or cooling, I had very limited run time with the new unit. The first time I tried using the heat in December, I had to call for some adjustments. The technician said there may have been a minor refrigerant leak but he couldn't find it. He did however leave me with an operating unit. The next time I tried using the unit again was a few weeks ago when we had the high humidity but again, it wouldn't not cool down my condominium so I called for help again. When the technician, Fred Radtke, showed, albeit a few hours after the original quoted timeframe, he said he has never failed finding a refrigerant leak and will stay as long as needed to find it. When he did find it on external piping on the outside unit, it was already getting dark outside. In order to fix it, he said he needed three more hours and he asked me what was my preference on when to fix it - that night or the next day. I asked for first thing in the morning and he enthusiastically said whenever I wanted him, he would be here. He showed up the next morning right on time and had it fixed in exactly three hours. 5 Stars to Fred - I couldn't ask for a better technician. But I need to be honest and say that is what I expect after what I paid for the new unit compared to what my neighbors paid for similar new units/installations with other businesses. read more

The air conditioning failed in a rental apartment. The Property Manager called on the services of an air-conditioning company previously unknown to me. This unknown company inspected the air conditioning unit of the apartment; and they did not attempt to repair the unit or investigate whether or not the air conditioning unit was still under warranty. Rather they provided me with prices for an entirely new air-conditioning unit. This would have meant a major expense on my part. Instead, I asked the Property Manager to call on the services of the Sherlock Heating & Air Conditioning Company in Vista, CA. After their initial assessment of the air conditioning unit, the Sherlock Heating & Air Conditioning Company informed us that the unit (a Lennox Air Conditioner) was still under warranty; and that all parts would be free of charge for a repair. It turned out that the parts were no longer available from Lennox for the old unit, so the Sherlock Heating & Air Conditioning company arranged that the Lennox Air Conditioning company provide me with a brand new upgraded air conditioning system without charge for the unit under the old warranty. Now, thanks to the Sherlock Heating & Air Conditioning Company, we have a brand new Lennox Air Conditioner under a new warranty. This saved me a ton of money as well as providing me with a new air conditioning unit. I cannot ask for more; and I give five stars to the Sherlock Heating & Air Conditioning Company. read more

I started with a Sherlock representative at the Costco in Mission Valley. My initial request was for an AC quote. A very knowledgeable and professional man came out and gave me a quote. I decided not to proceed because the logistics of my very small house and steep sloped yard just didn't work for the outside unit and plumbing lines required. Then, I had a friend that installed a mini-split AC system. It looked really cool so I contacted the guy that installed their system. He was nice enough but seemed confused by my project (I have an upstairs / downstairs situation that requires a multi unit). The guy never followed up with a quote and I wasn't very confident in him anyway so I reached out to Sherlock. Everything about the Sherlock project went perfectly. Scheduling with the office folks is smooth. The sales folks are very thorough and professional and they got me a quote promptly. The installers were super nice and very conscientious. They went way above and beyond to get the outside unit mounted way up high on the side of my house because the passageway is very narrow. They had to use a hydraulic lift but it seemed like just another day at the office for these folks. Unlike the other guy that came out, they could handle the quirks of my house with ease. With Sherlock, I got the white glove treatment and am I ever glad I chose them. My friends had a fire at their house caused by the way the other guy had run the lines! read more

Beware of HERO program and Sherlock Heating and A/C Sales Reps! Two years ago we had a Sherlock Heating and A/C rep came to our house to talk about purchasing a new A/C. We live in a small condo so I was interested in a small low cost unit but the rep told us about the HERO program. The sales rep told us that the HERO program allowed you to put the cost of the A/C on to our home taxes and more importantly he told us when we sold the condo the loan would automatically transfer over to the new own. He also told us to qualify we had to purchase a high efficient unit (which cost far more money). Fast forward two years, we are now selling our home and we started escrow, two days into escrow, the HERO program contacted escrow demanding payment for the system or the new owner will have to qualify for the loan to cover the remaining cost. The issue is, when someone bids on a home and you accept their offer, you can't then ask them to accept a HERO loan for an additional $16K! Oh wait did I say $16K, why yes I did! To close our load out the HERO program is charging us the original $12K for the unit plus an additional $4K for "admin fees"! The only way for me to sell my house now is to pay off the $16K. I've learned my lesson with state backed programs and will never participate in one again. Customers looking to use the HERO program should be very cautious and NOT believe what your Sherlock sales rep is telling you. DO YOUR OWN HOMEWORK! read more

A good friend in Mission Hills, who had Sherlock install her heating system, recommended I have them bid on replacing my old heater. The rep. scheduled an appointment a day or so later at which time he carefully detailed the type of heating unit that would be best for my home. As my home was built in 1955, I learned the metal heating vents in each room were not providing the maximum air flow. The next day the rep. emailed me three options based on our discussion. I choose the option with high quality air-filtration to have the recirculated air cleaned, thereby reducing dust. The rep. came back again a day or so later to measure all vents and ducts and to further explain how the job would be performed. The installation was scheduled about ten days later. Their work was very good taking most of the day. Both installers were very clean and friendly. They vacuumed all vents with long hoses. They installed new thermostat explaining how to set temperatures. The new heater is very quite and home is comfortable even on the coldest nights. My brother attended both the initial meeting and watched the installation. As he was the facility manager for 150 bank branches in San Diego County and BOMA (Building Owners & Managers Association) his knowledge far exceeded mine in this area. His assessment was Sherlock did an excellent job. I would highly recommend Sherlock and will use them again for my heating or air-conditioning needs. read more

I could not be happier with the great service provided by Sherlock Heating And Air. First time AirCo owner. The thing that impressed me most was that they really were respectful of our home. Thanks to Joe, JoeJoe, Billy and Danny. They were simply awesome. I happen to be a blind guy and they were always very careful to let me know when ladders were up as they were working in the attic. Joe especially was great, made it a point to engage me in conversation. Turns out we're fellow musicians. Don't get me wrong, he worked his tail off and didn't just sit around and shoot the breeze. I couldn't be more pleased with the service Sherlock Heating and AirCo provided. Would recommend them to anyone interested in improving their home. Great choice, glad I made it. They also took the time to make sure new fangled thermostat was connected to the Internet. Again, not playing the blind guy card, but they took the time to put in the info to the thermostat to get me online. Would use them again in a heartbeat. Oh, almost forgot a big shout out to our "Comfort Advisor" Mike who made all the arrangements from initial appraisal to getting the loan worked out. Great company from top to bottom. And now my top to bottom is nice and cool, and will be nice and warm come December. Thanks again Sherlock. Guess their motto should be "No Shirk Sherlock". And shame on me!!! Tina in the office did a great job letting us know what was happening. read more

*****This is an update to my recent poor review of Sherlock.***** It's been three weeks now since my wife and I posted reporting out frustration with Sherlock Heating and Air Conditioning. I can now report that the day after our review was posted, we were contacted by Sherlock Heating and Air Conditioning and it's owner, Aaron Sherlock. He was very cordial and professional over the phone and patiently listened to our complaint. Evidently even though he had heard bits and pieces about our problems in the past, he had never been fully apprised of the full story. A few days later we met personally with Aaron at our home for him to inspect our AC system. We had a good meeting. And we found Aaron to be very genuine and focused on making our situation better. He personally arranged to have a representative from Lennox come out and give us an independent, unbiased opinion, which we had requested, on whether our AC system had been installed correctly or not. After the Lennox representative indicated our system had been installed properly, Aaron arranged for one of his technicians to come out and replace not only our AC compressor, but the entire AC unit. And this was done at no additional charge to us, something we consider to be far above and beyond what was necessary to correct this situation. My wife and I are deeply grateful for the kind and honest way Aaron and Sherlock Air has dealt with us. read more

If I could give more stars I would! I cannot even begin to express how wonderful this company is! From the very initial call in, the receptionist was so pleasant and helpful. She even called every time there was an earlier opening to see if it would work for me. Then the first guy to come out and figure out the game plan was so friendly. He was very accommodating and reassuring of any questions/ concerns we had. There was absolutely no pressure to upgrade, or buy more than we wanted/ needed. Then came the installers. They were clean, and friendly, and VERY hard working. Beyond polite and professional. They were more than willing to completely explain what they were doing whenever I had a question. They were sincere, and never made me feel like they were annoyed by my questions (I'm very inquisitive). A few adjustments needed to be made the following week... No big deal. But again, two more extremely professional, polite, clean, efficient workers came to handle it. They were so accommodating and amazing! While they were ALL complete rock stars that deserve high praise... JR Cruz was the shinning star that stood out most to me. Sherlock is just an above and beyond company. They are HONEST, polite, efficient, hard working, and just all around wonderful. You would be out of your mind to go anywhere else. read more

We had our heating and Ac systems installed last Nov. 2015.Our consultant Marc was very professional and detailed. Follow up before and after the installation. I was working the day that Jr and Frank installed the system and my husband was out of the house most of the time that day due to appointments. Jr and Frank, they're respectful, trustworthy, hardworking, they cleaned up before they left. They really did an awesome job! After they installed, the inspector from the city needed to check the system. I just called the office to see if they can get an appointment for me. I spoke to Tina, I just gave her my availability and after few minutes she called me up and she was able to get one for me. I thought after they installed the system I wouldn't hear from them again. But then, I was surprised Allison sent me an e-mail for tune up after few months that was installed. She was very accommodating to my schedule. Last but not least, Brendon Tracy, the technician came on time, friendly, another knowledgeable person, he showed me how to program the keypad, explained and answered all my questions. Thank you! .#TeamSherlock, Highly Recommended! read more

Had the A/C system in our serviced for the second time by Sherlock Heating and Air. Over a year ago, the system was completely unusable. They fixed it for a reasonable price (I shopped around), and actually recommend AGAINST some unecessarily expensive alternatives that weren't even that beneficial- this saved our family a lot of money. This time, Fred Radke from Sherlock H&AC came out to do preventative maintenance on our system as well as look at some rooms in the house where airflow wasn't great. Fred arrived precisely on time (very important for my family's packed schedule), was friendly and professional (my kids liked him), and he worked quietly and efficiently. Watching him work, I could tell he is a master of his craft... really knows what he's doing. I also appreciated the little things: He wore boot covers over his boots so he didn't get footprints on our floors, and he placed rugs under each location where he used his ladder so he didn't mess up our carpet or wood floors. At the end, he explained the various measurements he had jotted down and allowed me plenty of time to ask questions. Thanks for the great service. read more

Having been referred to Sherlock by Yingst Appliance (who has our trust), I was feeling pretty comfortable with calling them for our air conditioning repair. Starting with Allison and Chelsea in their office, who were so courteous and helpful, they were able to fit an appointment in today (same day, oh my gosh..YAY!) even though they were crazy busy. We are having a tremendous heat wave right now. I can not say enough about Enoch and Jared. They were not only prompt, but early, and I was out, but they waited for me as I raced home. It is obvious that this company's standards for their employees is very high, which I so appreciate. They were kind and friendly but serious about their job and got right to it. They took the time necessary to diagnose the problem and when they did and also throughout the couple of hours they were here, they explained everything to me which I also appreciated very much. I found them to be extremely trustworthy and very knowledgable and I plan to recommend this company big time. Thank you Sherlock, Enoch and Jared. You have made one new customer very happy today! read more

Excellent experience. Our AC unit was leaking refrigerant. We had two AC companies run diagnostics They said the leak must be inside a wall in the house, although the could not definitively find it. Their solution was to install a new line set at a cost of over $2,000. Luckily, we decided to get another opinion and called Sherlock. Bonita who answered phone listened and understood our dilemma and was able to schedule an appointment the following day. When Sherlock tech Fred arrived he was able to find the leak within 15 minutes. He then went the extra step to seal the valves and pressurize the system to make sure there were no other leaks. . By comparison, the two previous companies didn't even check the service valves. A repair appointment was scheduled promptly (thank you Bonita) and when Fred came back he worked late into the evening to make the necessary repairs. He even came back the next day to make sure the system was running correctly. Fred was courteous, knowledgeable and thorough and saved us from making costly and unnecessary repairs. Amazing service. Highly recommended. read more

Carlos & Eddie from Sherlock Heating and A/C extended my wife and I every courtesy. They took great care to minimize the disruption in our home while they performed the demolition and installation tasks. They were courteous, mindful of our two old dogs, they kept us appraised of their progress, they answered all of our questions honestly and in a way that we could understand. I was very impressed with their integrity and the level of detail they applied to all aspects of the job, including removing and replacing the portions of walls they had to cut out to get to the ducting. They were also helpful in pointing out the pros and cons of some attic venting concerns we had, saving us the cost of adding a larger vent, when they pointed out that there were two vents with sufficient air flow, instead of only the one we could see from the ground. They showed up on time, they completed the job to our great satisfaction and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend Sherlock as a Heating and A/C contractor to our friends and neighbors, especially if Carlos and Eddie were to perform the work. Great job guys. read more

Sherlock replaced my furnace and air conditioner earlier this spring and I could not be more happy, especially with the heat we're experiencing in San Marcos this week! They did a full system evaluation and determined the existing system was undersized. At first I was skeptical because I just wanted to purchase another 2.5 ton instead of a 3 ton. Boy was I wrong. The first day the system was installed I could tell an immediate difference. My new Lennox system cools the whole house in a matter of minutes. They also showed me how the original install did not facilitate proper air flow, so they fixed that too. Our ducts were also replaced. This was another point I wasn't sure about because it just felt like extra money we didn't want to spend. When they described the poor state of the 25-year-old ducts AND explained I was eligible for a $2,100 rebate from SDG&E, it made more sense. Well, I just received my rebate check and it was actually $2,500 because of how well everything was sealed off, and how efficient the system is. Just really happy with the whole experience!! read more

This is an update from my previous review. Sherlock performed a quality maintenance inspection at my home about a month ago, and the results made it clear it was time for my ancient and inefficient system to be replaced. Billy and Danny from Sherlock replaced the furnace, AC and ducting, and did an amazing job! Install started on a Friday and was complete the following Monday. I thought there was a chance I would be without AC over that (very warm) weekend but the guys stayed until after 6:30 that Friday night to make sure the new equipment was connected to the existing ducting. What a relief!! The system cooled beautifully and kept us comfortable all weekend. On Monday, the old ducting was removed and replaced with new ducting. One of my favorite features - I opted for a Nest thermostat and Nest smoke/carbon monoxide detector. I LOVE the Nest products and the ability to be connected to my home from anywhere. It was the icing on the cake. I'm so thankful to the team at Sherlock for vastly improving the comfort of my home. I highly recommend them!! read more

I chose Sherlock Heating and AC to install an air conditioner in my condo. Costo referred me to another company, who advertises constantly on TV and radio, and after negative experiences with three of their estimators and considering their high prices, I asked Costco to refer me to Sherlock. Sherlock's estimator Trever, was very knowledgeable, answered all of my questions and gave me a great price. The installers carefully followed the HOA guidelines, making sure all the pipes were installed neatly in my garage, and cleaned up everything when they were finished. The city inspector insisted on having Sherlock meet him on site and the office staff went out of their way to find someone who could come to my house at the last minute. I just had my six month complimentary inspection and the technician, Enoch, was very thorough and knowledgeable. I received a text before he arrived with a photo and bio so I know who to expect. I recommended Sherlock to a neighbor who needed new heating ducts and vents and he said he was very happy with their service. read more
