I called the Payless main number on a Friday morning after discovering my 23 year old water heater had been leaking. They set a 1:00 - 3:00 appointment for that day & Dustin showed up at 2:15. He inspected the old setup and showed me quotes for several options. We agreed on a fair price and he got to work installing the new water heater right then (it was already in his van). Nobody likes to deal with a leaky water heater. Nobody. When I went out to my garage and saw the flood, I unfortunately knew what the issue was. Fortunately I was able to get a hold of Payless Water Heaters and they sent someone out right away. Lucky for me they sent Aldrin M. out to my house because this guy really knows his stuff. He was careful to point out where the problem was, why it was leaking and was professional and friendly with me while discussing my options for a replacement. There was no pressure to choose a particular type or model but he very carefully pointed out the positives about each of them. After the decision was made, he went right to work and in no time I had hot water and a dry floor. He was neat, very communicative and I couldn't have asked for anyone to be nicer. He even took the time to walk me through several water heater maintenance procedures to prolong the life of the new heater. The water heater is great, but I'm sure I could have gotten a water heater from somewhere else. What made this bad situation all okay, was Aldrin. I called Tankless Water Heaters because I was so tired of waiting forever for hot water. (I mean, really, forever.) I had buckets in each shower, buckets in the kitchen, etc. to save the water to put in the yard, but after 12 years in our house, I was tired of it. I wasn't sure what the solution was, but thought maybe I needed a new water heater in a different location or different piping or something. Dustin came out to talk with me. He said my tankless water heater was aging, but basically was working fine and didn't need replacing. Instead he recommended an Aquamotion water recirculating system, which I had never heard of. Chris and Mike in the sales office talked to me about this and gave me the information I needed to understand what this was and how it would work, and we decided to do it. They had to order the parts so it was a while before the next appointment, but then Dustin returned and installed the system, with his helper Aldrin. We love the system. When we want hot water to do dishes or take a shower, we just press a button and wait a couple of minutes and we have hot water! No more hauling buckets around. And everyone, from Dustin, to the sales folks, to the people in the office who call to schedule appointments were GREAT communicators. We always knew exactly when someone would show up and they did everything exactly when they said they would. This sounds basic, but I've had lots of other experiences when people showed up late, or not at all, so I was delighted with the communication. I strongly recommend Payless Water Heaters! read more

I am very reluctant to leave bad reviews and I almost never do. But in this case I felt it was my responsibility to educate potential customers. My tankless water heater (Noritz) had a leak. Before the repair guy from Payless Water Heaters came over, I looked up the price of the unit. $1300.00 including taxes. The guy from Payless came over and gave me two options A: Fix the water heater. Cost: $1500 or B: Replace the water heater. He gave me an estimate for the replacement cost. A whopping $3700 including the unit. In other words, they wanted to charge me $2400 for the labor. I estimated that it would take about an hour to replace the unit myself. I ended up ordering the unit online and my guess was correct - it took me an hour to swap the heater. Now, I understand that everybody needs to make money. But charging $2700 for an hour of work is not ethical. They are taking advantage of uneducated home owners who don't know any better. I hope they will see this review and go elsewhere. Payless Water Heaters - I think they need to change the company name. read more

They quickly diagnosed the problem and provided options to repair or replace it. Because my water heater was very old I decided to replace it. But They were able to replace it immediately, because they had everything needed on the truck. They also hauled away my old water heater at no additional cost. The quote was right in the middle of the range that I got from five other plumbers. I hired someone else because, as a retiree on a fixed income, I need to make every dollar count. We had a issue when the water heater was not producing hot water. Payless water heater number was on the water heater and my husband called their number. The person who came told us that "After diagnosing it our professional recommendation that this water heater be replaced due to its age/condition." They charged $59 for the visit. The estimate given was $699 to replacement of Icon gas valve kit. To replace the 75 gallon tank water heater without city permits - $2875. To replace 75 gallon tank water heater with city permitted inspection - $3380. We called a plumber that we are familiar with and he came and did a reset and fixed the issue in about 10-15 minutes. Please be very careful dealing with this company. Always get a second opinion! read more

Very bad service. They charge more and do a shity job. I hired them for my tankless water heater installation. They come unprepared with a recirculating pump not working. The Payless water heater guy tells he will come next week to install a new recirculating pump. Never calls or show ups. I called several times and then after 3 weeks they sent someone who did not fix the problem but messed up our plumbing that my filter water got messed up. read more

Payless Water Heaters responded to our call and was able to come and see us same day, on a Sunday, when most locations are closed. We received an email with the time frame to expect our technician. Although the new water heater final result would rate 5 stars, there were a few little bumps along the way that cause me to take one star off. Response time was amazingly quick... the estimator came right out, and the price was at or below the other estimates. However, when the installer came out, he said that we needed to move an overhead rack and pile of stored stuff in the garage for access, so he couldn't do anything that day. Then later, the technicial had some fittings sticking way out so that a side door would smash into them, and I had to make some noise to get them changed. But, as I said, the final result is excellent. I'd probably use them again. read more

They were prompt and thorough. They installed a check valve on my hot water line to prevent backwards flow for free (didn't have one before). The valve didn't work properly and started rattling a few weeks after installation. The company returned two more times to replace and repair the valve and didn't charge me any more money. Their technicians were very nice and service was prompt. While I do appreciate that it hardly makes up for their incredibly high prices. I was in a hurry and needed my tankless water heater fixed and boy did I pay for it. Since the defective parts were covered under warranty it should have been much cheaper and when the work was done they refused to provide a detailed invoice so I could make some sense of what they did.
