We began using Dr. Stone as our family dentist; when he retired and sold the practice to Dr. Yuan, we now use her service. My spouse and I are completely satisfied with the quality of care from her and her team. We have had some very good dentists in the past, and judge the care we have received with Dr. Yuan to be equally good! Kathy, who works the front and handles most (all?) of the administrative details, was kind enough to give us useful advice when we retired and were considering whether to pay for dental insurance policies on our own. We have used Janie for years for our regular cleaning appts and appreciate she has a gentle touch and keeps an eye on potential gingivitis issues for both Spouse and me. We highly recommend Dr. Yuan and her team. They make every effort to help us avoid future [expensive] problems by giving us specific "to-do's", but keeping the latter simple and easy to incorporate into a daily routine. read more

My colleagues recommended Dr. Yuan because almost everyone in our office goes to her. So with such high recommendations, I decided to book a visit. I got in early for my appointment, about 5 minutes, and even though the office wasn't technically open yet, I found it really odd that the staff just completely ignored me as I waited in the waiting room until two minutes after the office "opened." Then, I got the really really really almost too friendly "Hi Angela! How are you!" Meh... I think this place offers very high quality services, but there's just something that irks me about it. Dr. Yuan herself is very nice and seems to know a lot. She gives advice, but is somewhat rushed in the process. I guess I prefer somebody else in terms of their work style (way they give advice). I felt scolded when she told me to wear my retainer more often because my "parents paid a lot of money for that." Really? Do you have to put it that way? Anyway, Dr. Yuan also didn't hesitate to recommend some serious dental work on me. It was all fine and dandy (and she assured me that she'd recommend this to her family members too) until I got the price quote and it was wayyy out of my budget. I went to another dentist who had a different opinion (it wasn't necessary to do this work right now). I guess I'll find out in the future if Dr. Yuan was right and pay the price then. Overall, this place is ok. It's just not worth it for me to trek all the way to Oakland (Bart and then walk) to get to a dental office that I don't have good vibes about. read more

I'm not an existing patient, I came to Dr. Yuan because I had some sort of infection under an existing crown. The pain had traveled from my jaw down my neck and into my shoulder. My gums had turned a deep purple and my tongue was turning red. She x-rayed me and found that my crown was mounted to a now broken root bone and it needed to come out. I asked when she could do it, but all they could give me was a whole week later. She wouldn't give me anything for the pain. She prescribed antibiotics and told me it would stop hurting when the inflammation receded. I was upset, but a friend had recommended her to me and I wanted someone that would accept my dental insurance starting next month. I showed up today for my appointment at 2pm. I was told that they'd had me down for 3pm. I told them that's impossible. Why would I agree to a 2-hour appointment at 3pm when I had to pick up my kid at 4pm? I supposed if someone had called to confirm, we would've sorted this out and I wouldn't have scheduled my entire workday around it. It gets better: She asks me could I come in next week for the appointment. I told her no, and in fact I wouldn't be coming back at all. In short, Dr. Yuan has an appalling lack of professionalism, care, or respect for other people's time, and is basically a cold-hearted woman that clearly doesn't give a rat's ass about her patients, particularly the ones that are in pain. I'm actually astounded that someone like this can still work in dentistry. read more

Dr Sherin Yuan has taken over the practice of my beloved dentist and because I loved his work and philosophy so much I decided to stay on. While Sherin she seems nice, something has gone horribly wrong with the practices' care and quality of service which I don't get because many of the staff are the same from the previous dentist. I had to wait 3-4 months for a teeth cleaning and when my appt finally rolled around I was told I shouldn't wait so long to get my teeth cleaned as if it were my decision. So I asked what was Isuppose to do when you they don't have any appts? I was assured that was a rare situation and that it would not happen again. Of course it did happen again, and with my very next visit. This time I was given the option of being on a waitlist if there were any cancellations and assured that I would get a call because cancellations were expected between now and 4 months. Well, guess what - yes - I did NOT get a call! And I was supposedly the first person on the list. How could not one person have cancelled? So I decided that it was time to explore other options out there so I started shopping for a new dentist. As part of the process, I requested my records from Dr Yuan's office. Guess what? Suddenly I get a call from them....finally! Oh, but it's not to apologize or ask why I'm thinking about changing dentists, but to say they are cancelling my appt since they had assumed I was switching dentists. So I call back to talk to the receptionist and very nicely started telling her that I was feeling frustrated with my experience with the practice and she proceeds to cut me off and practically hangs up on me because she's obviously in a rush and can't bear to apologize for my experience. So I left the practice after 10+ years of being a loyal customer and can happily say I have found a wonderful practice that meets all my needs! read more

Dr. Yuan has been our dentist for many years. My parents use her as well. I enjoy having her as my dentist because she is very thorough and definitely knows what she is doing. She is highly trained and takes the time to explain things to me when needed. She is very professional and is friendly as well as personal which makes the whole experience in her office worthwhile. By all accounts, Dr. Yuan is the best dentist I have ever had in my life! Her staff members are also extraordinary! My girlfriend heard about Dr. Yuan from her boss, and after hearing all the good reviews from her, I went for an examination. I have always been wary about going to the dentist but Dr. Yuan and her staff made me feel very comfortable. They are truly friendly, considerate, competent, knowledgeable, and informative. Dr. Yuan advised me of the treatment plan that I needed and Kathy explained all of the insurance/financial details in a clear manner. I got all of the details about what I could expect to pay for the services vs. my insurance. I've had a cleaning and a few more visits after the initial examination and I have been very impressed. Dr. Yuan is gentle when carrying out the procedures and is always willing to answer questions. Paula is my hygienist and she performed a thorough job with my teeth cleaning. She also advised me of the proper approach to daily care, especially for the spots we often overlook. Other highlights from my visits: They had a promotion when I first visited the office and they gave me a $30 gas card for my first exam! Dr. Yuan is the best! I can't say enough about how great she is. Most recently, I had a dental emergency (a cracked tooth, augh!) on a Sunday evening. I left a message for Dr. Yuan, and within half an hour, she got back to me (on a Sunday night!!), really concerned and asking for details. It was amazing, how great it made me feel to talk to her. She asked questions, gathered all the facts and details, and was very thorough in taking care of me in an emergency situation - she has a calming, soothing effect on people, SO important in a dentist - I feel so much better knowing that I have such a great doctor looking out for me. She's incredibly knowledgeable, but more importantly, she's so NICE, personable and easy to talk to, and really knows how to explain things in such a way that makes any procedure much less scary! The staff at Dr. Yuan's office is always very friendly. I'm always greeted by Kathy at the front desk. I've been a patient of the office for a long time, since before she bought the practice. I am very confident with the hygienist & dentist's ability. She is very thorough and does not recommend unnecessary procedures. She is very friendly and has a gentle hand when she is working on me. Dr Yuan and her staff not only do great work but they are also unfailingly friendly and helpful. Dr Yuan is gentle when doing procedures, and I feel very confident in her work. She is always ready to explain exactly what she is going to do and why, which I really appreciate. I have also had terrific experiences with the hygienists, who do the most thorough cleanings around! Paula is my go-to hygienist and she really takes care of business. I am pretty sensitive about getting my teeth worked on, but everyone there is attentive and ensure that it's as painless as possible. I went to Dr Yuan's practice because she purchased the practice from my long time dentist of 30 years from Dr.Stone. I think that Dr. Yuan's skills as a general dentist are good. However, I was disappointed that when I needed a crown that her cost was significantly higher than most dentists doing the exact same work. When I chose to get a crown from another dentist for $750 less than what it would cost in her practice, I was informed that I she would not longer retain me as a patient. Her policy is that if dental work is done elsewhere that the patient is basically "fired" from her practice. I would no longer be allowed to receive dental cleanings in her office. I was saddened and disappointed at such poor customer service and lack of loyalty. Surely one can understand that the price differential is significant. read more

Dr. Yuan deserves 5 stars. She explains procedures and your options clearly. She really listens and answers your questions. She's knowledgeable and thorough, but doesn't attempt to push services you don't really need. You don't know she's in your mouth. You cannot feel her shots - truly! She has a gentle touch. The staff is also excellent. Both hygienists are equally friendly and competent. The chair side assistants are great. The women who work at the desk really know what they're doing with billing and insurance. They get you in minutes after you arrive; you are not kept waiting! Plus, there's free parking on the site. Don't be too concerned about the appearance of the office; the decor is a bit out dated. It's very clean. The service is impeccable. Try her. You will not regret it. read more

I needed to have an implant to replace a severly broken crown on my upper front big tooth. It was a very technically difficult job since my teeth are quite large, the original tooth needed to be pulled, and then to make matters worse, I broke my temporary tooth and adjoining tooth 2 months into the process. Dr. Yuan is a very skilled and concientious professional. The patient's satisfaction and comfort are clearly her first priority in providing quality service. Previous to this recent implant and crown, I had only been to see Dr. Yuan for a cleaning. Originally, Dr. Yuan had been recomended my by a neighbor. So, I was a little nervous about having a dentist that I had had little experience. The entire experience went pretty well. My initial visit required fileing the tooth and making a temporary so I could go out in public and not be embarassed having a front tooth missing. She referred my to a specialist to have the tooth extracted and to have the implant. Those 2 visits went quite well. Then, after healing, Dr. Yuan completed the implant with a porcelain crown. Due to an unfortunate accident, I fell and broke my temporary tooth and cracked the adjoining tooth prior to the permanent implant. This was on a Thursday morning. Dr. Yuan normally does not see patients on Fridays. I called her office just before Thursday lunch. The office staff was very empathetic to what I was going through. They scheduled an immediate emergency visit for me to come in for repairs. The temporary tooth was sent back to the lab, and Dr. Yuan corrected the other tooth so that the the tooth would be smooth and unnoticeable. They requested that the lab rush the repair of the temporary tooth, and came in on her unscheduled day-Friday--just to fit the temporary tooth so that I could go to a social event that weekend without fearing to smile. The final crown was difficult to match the precise color of the remainder of my teeth, but Dr. Yuan sent me to a lab so that my tooth could be better matched. She spent quite a bit of time analyzing my teeth to make certain I got the best possible color match. All in all, I have been quite pleased with the procedure. Best of all, I can smile again without worrying about a noticeable implant tooth. I already plan to have Dr. Yuan crown the other tooth that I broke this summer and that Dr. Yuan temporarily fixed. I never wait more than a few minutes before getting promptly seated, and the hygienists I've had are all very competent and kind. Last time I went to have a cavity filled. I was pleasantly surprised at how quick and painless the experience was. Dr. Yuan has a deft touch! I was actually comfortable which is weird considering all the filling stuff going on in my mouth. I was in and out in well under the time I had allotted, went back to work and felt fine. Kathy gave me a nice follow up call the next day to check in on how I was doing, which I appreciated. Wow my 5 months of pain and botched fillings by another dentist was fixed in one visit after thoroughly examining and explaining every little detail inside my mouth universe !!! Dr.Yuan is competent and truly gifted. Incredible touch, skill and not mention very easy on the eyes as well. I recommend Dr.Yuan as the best Dentist in the east bay area. You do not need to think or look for anyone else. The other bad reviews on here if you read closely has no substance to backup the bad ratings. Yes good dentists have many patients and hence harder to get appointments. Yes it is a business and they would like to make money. And No just because you felt a weird vibe doesn't constitute a bad dentist. If you grade purely on Merits, knowledge and explanation Dr.Yuan gets a perfect 10. And the staff is awesome and very friendly. It feels like you are visiting relatives when you go to this office. They make you feel like we are all a family.
