After doing some epic vintage shopping on this street, we had soon worked up an appetite…read more After walking past we carried on until we reached the of the road. Then we turned around and looked at each other .. "Shall we try that place?" Retracing our steps we stepped inside this Moroccan wonderland. From the ceiling hung numerous elaborate lanterns, below, long benches piled with gem coloured cushions. It definitely felt like an Arabian Nights set. A waitress dressed in theme led us to a nearby table and provided us with menus. Drinks consisted of various teas and home made smoothies..I can't remember there being alcohol on the menu, perhaps I was still feeling fragile from the night before? Himself ordered a beetroot concoction of some sort while I had their Moroccan fresh lemonade followed by a special tea that had so many various spices in it , it was like a party in my mouth. The menu as to be expected, full of traditional Moroccan dishes with a tempting offer of three course meal for under £15. I normally shy away fro m things like this as the quality tends to go down. Impulsively we went for it.. For starters he ordered the falafel while I went for this filo pastry with olive and cheese served with chutney. For mains I had the lamb with caramelized fruit while he had the chicken tangine. For dessert there was just two options.. baklava or pancakes.. we went for the baklava thinking it would be lighter. When my starter arrived i did think " Oh no here is a generic frozen spring roll" however biting into it changed my mind immediately. It oozed with tasty cheese packed with herbs and olives, it tasted fresh and homely. I personally find falafel boring but it did taste okay..still preferred mine though. The tangines were both cooked to perfection.. the meat was tender and falling off the bone into a spicy pool of goodness. I poured the side plate of cous cous into the lamb to mop up the tasties. Finally the baklava, most of the pieces were good containing pistachio but some were dry and tasted like hay. To be honest by this point I was quite happy with everything else and full so I could not grumble. Overall I found it really reasonably price, the service friendly and the right level of attentiveness. The decor was fab and everything made me feel like i was back in Marrakesh again. Highly recommended. Yes I would come back. Only thing I can think to improve is the dessert section?

We then both opted for a tagine (a safe choice I know, but they didn't disappoint!) I chose the lamb and potato tagine and it was scorching hot! My young is still a little swollen, and as a result my friend had find her his meal way before I could properly tuck into mine! Though I do eat at the speed of a sloth, so it didn't make much difference. There's no alcohol on the menu, only soft drinks and a variety of hot and cold teas. The decor was beautiful with lanterns hanging from the ceiling and incense burning everywhere. Staff were helpful and recommend dishes, and 2 courses was cheaper than £15. Great value for all the food we got!

Of course, people walking around in their pyjamas is a natural occurrence in Liverpool - it was probably stranger because I didn't have curlers in! Anyway, always on hand to provide a quick snack to those in need, Pizza Pronto does exactly what it says on the tin - gives you food fast. After the disappointment of missing out on the free BBQ at Peacock, for example, I was happily munching on a chicken burger within 10 minutes, and that includes walking between the two. And don't worry about undercooked food - I eat there and there's nothing wrong with me....

This doesn't mean that it's not good here (it really is) just that American Pizza Slice is very, very good. What works in Pizza Pronto's favour is the price of the slice - just £1.50 a pop. A must if you need a snack on the move around these here parts. Of a night time it all changes gear a bit and Pizza Pronto turns kebab shop, it's still good but like any kebab shop the food is a little sloppily done and the pizza isn't nearly as good, even though you end up getting far more of it. I don't want loads of pizza though, just a little bit of good pizza. That's my drunken lament as I wheel my way unsteadily down towards the taxi rank at the bottom of Bold Street hill.

There is no replacement for quality and to be honest, I would rather walk across town to go here than to any old greasy take out even at 3am! The staff are always super friendly, and they do one of the best kebabs in town. Fresh, filling, mouthwateringly tasty. The litmus test of a good takeaway is if you're willing to eat it when you're sober and I'm more than happy to grab a curry or a burger from here any time of day! When they ask you if you want chilli sauce, the extra hot one, be aware that they're called Hot Chillis for a reason! Seriously spicy and flavoursome, my friend was once reduced to tears in a taxi on the way home after tucking into an extra hot sauced veggie kebab. Don't say I didn't warn you! They're more than happy to cater for veggies, falafel kebabs (yum!) and also, Halal food is available. Just the thing you need to end a long night out!

In general the price is good and the place looks smart enough that you are not worried about where exactly your food is coming from which gives you a good deal more confidence than provided by some takeaways I have encountered. I have to be honest and say that I have only ever drunkenly eaten kebabs here and by those standards it was okay, then again at those times any grub will fill a hole. In general a decent place and the staff are nice which is always good but I would say if your in the area it is worth overlooking Hot Chillis and making the trip to china town.

If you're the type like me who enjoys the odd experiment in the kitchen, then Freshco is a place where you can find exotic ingredients that you won't find in a typical British supermarket. Like Megan, I always enjoy browsing ethnic shops as I'm curious to try new products. Freshco also sells Halal food which is considerate for those who have religious beliefs. You'll find tobacco and international calling cards are on offer too. As a whole, this shop is like your Asian version of Spar containing a fusion of European and Eastern foods. At Freshco, you have a decent choice and value all under one roof. Great for a gander.

I love ethnic grocery stores--they are always so interesting. And for some reason, the fact that I can't read the foreign words on the food labels kind of makes me want to try stuff more than I would if I knew exactly what was in it. (I loved Soy and Worcester sauce until I discovered they both have crushed/pulverized anchovies in them! Yuck!) Here you will find ethnic foods like all different kinds of rice, tea, oriental spices, etc. but they also sell European foods, and some items that aren't typically British. It's a nice place to poke around if you like unusual food or if you're looking for something special for a recipe.
