Our first meal in Liverpool was at this lovely restaurant. I would highly recommend making a reservation as it was very busy while we were there for a late dinner. We were able to snag the two window seat swings.... Yes that is right. Swings! What a fun way to have dinner! We ordered the Office Worker's Tiffin and the Monkey Wrap. The tiffin comes with 4 tiers: 2 meat, 1 veg and 1 carb jeopardy decided by the chef. This is a great choice for those that are overwhelmed by the menu and can't decide. Everything was absolutely delicious and we loved every bite. The Monkey wrap was an open roti with tandoori chicken, pomegranate, spinach, mint and chutneys. Tender pieces of chicken, smothered in so much flavor and textures! Amazing meal, will definitely recommend.

Early dinner on a Sunday, it wasn't even 5 pm but the restaurant was packed! Thankfully was able to be seated immediately. Recommend booking a res if going for normal dinner times. The concept is similar to tapas where you order small dishes and share. 2-3 dishes per person in your group is a good amount and dishes come out as they're made, not necessarily all at once. Mango lassi was tangier than others I've had, not too sweet and definitely more emphasis on the yogurt. A nice addition to my meal! Yoghurt chat bombs (dahi puri) are excellent- filled to the brim and a wonderful pop of flavors in your mouth! A must have at any place serving chat. Butter chicken is tender and sauce doesn't feel too heavy. Lamb curry is so flavorful and full of different spices, plus the meat is tender and it's mixed with delicious chickpeas. Mowgli paneer has nice tomato flavors. All of these dishes are great with roti to help soak up the sauces! All of these dishes plus one beer was about £46, which included a £1 charity donation and a 10% service charge. Staff is friendly!

    Great bar and beautiful restaurant

I'd been craving Indian ever since I landed in England and Mowgli did not disappoint. I saw it was highly rated on Yelp and also got a shout out in Time Out for new Liverpool restaurants. We came here on a Sunday evening around 8pm and there was only a 5 minute wait to wipe down a table. So we went to the bar and ordered our first round of cocktails. The cocktail menu was fabulous. We ordered a Smoked Cardamom Old Fashioned and a Rose and Raspberry Gin & Tonic. The bar was beautiful and the restaurant was great too. Our table was ready before our drinks were so we were seated and the bartender brought our drinks to our table. The waitress explained how to order (2-3 per person because they're small plates) and we opted for 2 appetizers, 2 curries, 1 vegetable, and 3 starches. We thought it might not be enough but we ended up full at the end. Appetizers were spicier than the curries which was disappointing to us but we love spicy food and we understand that they're preparing for the local tastes. We also ordered a cappuccino and shared a brownie dessert and our total was only £60! For the quality of food, drinks, ambiance, and service, this was a total steal. It's casual with an upscale vibe. I'll definitely be pushing to come back next time we're in Liverpool. A funny side story was that we were seated next to a family of 4 and I overheard one of them say "They're sh*t aren't they, Americans?". And then I started talking to the waitress and the other table got real quiet and awkward before changing the subject quickly, hee hee.

This is the second of this type of restaurant in Liverpool and there is one due to open in Manchester soon. The food comes in a tiffin box The angry bird chicken was very good succulent tandoori chicken with a spicy chilli and red cabbage slaw. The gunpowder was spicier and in a spicy tomato garam masala sauce. The house lamb was very good. Melt in your mouth, buttery and like it was expertly slow cooked. More fresh that standard British-Indian food. The interior was gorgeous and wait-staff super pleasant. I would definitely go again and bring friends. They also had curious IPA (voted the world's best beer 2014) on the menu!

LOVED everything about this spot. Ambiance, service and food were all amazing. Highly recommend the chat bombs to start! If you're a texture person, maybe not but these are great to share and experience The ruby wrap was delicious all around! Also had a side of tea steeped chickpeas and rice to round it out

After walking past Mowgli on a few occasions in Liverpool, it's only recently that I've made the decision to actually step in the front door! On our recent trip to the city, Kate W and I headed there for our Friday dinner - and wow, was that a great choice. Knowing that basically nowhere does a booking policy for tables of less than 6, we went a little bit earlier than we actually wanted to eat, popped our name down (it was about a 45 minute wait) then headed to the Shipping Forecast around the corner for a drink. We were a bit early on our return so headed to the cosy bar towards the back of the restaurant. The whole atmosphere is relaxed and on the right side of intimate, and I could imagine it working for anything from a first date to a family gathering. We ordered a bottle of prosecco and waited about 5 minutes for the table. When it was ready, the front of house was happy to carry our drinks and we were soon faced with the menu. It can feel a touch overwhelming at first but the menu is very well laid out, into street chat, carbs, 'the Hindu kitchen' and street meats. There are also tiffin boxes for one available, which initially took our fancy, but we eventually decided to share a few plates instead. For start, we went for the 'Himalayan cheese toast' - yes, basically for the entertainment factor - and the bhel puri, the latter on recommendation from the waitress. This recommendation wasn't the greatest for my personal taste and I found the dish underwhelming, but luckily the cheese toast was a great stand out! Although a bit of a novelty name, the Indian flavours worked really well with the sharp cheese. Mains followed: Bunny Chow, house lamb curry, and a chicken dish (the name of which escaped me!) We also had some puri to mop up the sauces and a portion of basmati rice. The curries themselves were served in tiffin boxes, so we still got to have the experience we wanted! The Bunny Chow - lamb curry served inside a bread loaf - was the stand out for me personally, especially after the sauces had fully soaked into the bread. It was an indulgent feast that I'm looking forward to trying again. We're lucky to have this coming to Manchester but, after this experience, I think the original will remain the best.

I've walked past Mowgli a couple of times now and noted a delicious, spicy scent wafting onto the street each time the door was opened, that the establishment was always jam-packed full of people and that the lighting was adorable with empty bird cages full of lights hanging from the ceiling. I've tried to get a table before but have always found that there was always over an hour wait so when my friend and I walked past Mowgli yesterday at 2pm and noticed it to be fairly empty we jumped at the chance to sample their much talked about food. The dishes are served in traditional Indian tiffin boxes and there isn't a typical masala or balti in sight with each item on the menu being carefully picked by the owner of Mowgli, Nisha Katona. This is Indian street food at it's best and it's clear after a quick scroll down Mowgli's Facebook page that Nisha truly cares for her food, making personal posts about her recipes, her family and upbringing, and her love for the restaurant. My friend and I opted for the Yogurt Bombs, which were a food experience like no other! The idea is to eat the entire bomb (bread filled with yogurt, mint and chickpeas) in one go and the bread cracks when bitten, leaving the filling to explode in your mouth. It was sensational and I would seriously go back to Mowgli just for another round of those again! For mains we split some rice, some wholemeal flat bread and a ginger chicken curry, a new item on the menu. Both my friend and I have caught a cold recently and found the ginger and chillies in the thin and generous curry stopped our sniffles instantly. To top it all off, we ordered two Mango Lassi's to drink which contained large amounts of yogurt and tasted like blended Solaro ice lollies; divine! Service was wonderful with the waiters being attentive, helpful and up for a chat. I could not recommend this place more and can't wait to head back to sample some more of the menu!

Whilst on our little jaunt to Liverpool for the night Jess H gave me a few options on foodie places to go (yes she was my designated bar guide!). It was a toss up between here and a Chinese but the curry won out and boy was it good! You cant book here so we turned up and put our name down for the 45 minute wait. You do have the option to sit in the bar however we decided to head elsewhere and come back - and given its location you have plenty of other bars to choose from! We arrived back a little early to make sure we didn't miss our slot and ordered a bottle of prosecco (£20) and we were seated only 10 minutes later. The menu isn't massive on first glance however there was still too much choice! On recommendation we decided to go for our own tiffin styled indian - rather than the chefs surprise! We opted for two starters; the cheese toast and Bhel Puri. The cheese toast was amazing with all its melted goodness - I've never had anything quite like it! The puri was served cold with lots of spices but was probably my least favourite. Then came the main event; the house lamb curry, bunny chow and the agra ginger chicken served with a side of basmati rice and some nan bread. Arriving in an authentic tiffin box we tucked in - we ordered lots of the mini plates on recommendation that three would be just enough between us but the amount of food was unreal! We started with the lamb curry which was divine - always a favourite of mine however the best dish by far was the chicken curry it was so tasty and full of flavour I was in curry heaven! The bunny chow we were most excited for which arrived in all its glory with the sauce and meat served inside a huge loaf of bread! Need I say anymore? After attempting to completely finish each plate we admitted defeat! I was so impressed with this place - I love street style eating with the option to try lots of little dishes. Mowgli I will be back again soon!

Mowgli is an absolute gem of a restaurant on Bold Street. It is rather like having Indian tapas as all the portions are small and designed for sharing. You can order lots of different disses to share or order a stack of 4 tiffin boxes. The chef decides which dishes to put in so it is like a Russian roulette of food! We went with our teenage boys and all really enjoyed our meal. The Lassies were a lovely way to start the meal and a delicious cooling drink to have with the curry. You can order your dishes and add extra things on as you go as the service is super fast and the food comes out very quickly. Looking forward to a return visit soon!

Came in on a Saturday night - table for one. Enjoyed the atmosphere. The vibe and the music were a terrific complement, neither overbearing but totally in step with the look, feel and conversational tone of the clientele. Wait staff was attentive without being overburdening in any way. Helpful and prompt. Food was excellent. Butter chicken was among the best I've had. The Mowgli Paneer was very nice and terrific with the light and crispy Puri bread. Will I come back? Yeah - with friends.

I loved everything about this place - the decor, the food, and the service were all perfect. This was walking distance from our hotel - the Holiday Inn City Centre. The portions aren't huge so it's best to treat this as a tapas style indian restaurant rather than the typical family style place. I think we ordered four dishes between the two of us and were stuffed. The menu was really interesting and inventive.

Another to make it onto the block and with great success is Mayur restaurant, which serves Indian dishes with a touch of finesse. However, rather than being just the generic eatery for this area - in other words, expensive and clean cut - Mayur achieves something few of the others bother to, takeaway. So, if you live local in town, this could be the ideal accompaniment for a night in with a DVD or to have friends around without going to too much trouble or effort when perhaps all you really want to do is relax. The menu itself is bursting with options and really caters for all tastes. Indeed, for those who are less keen on Indian delicacies, this is arguably the best place to enjoy fine cuisine and overcome such aversions that, let's face it, is why people often like certain types of food and not others. Picture it now, the "oh, I don't like tapas person," or "I only really like to go Italian" kind of individual. Well Mayur on Duke St acts an intermediary or bridge for sceptics just on the well-cooked, eye-catching dishes - a rare gift that few restaurants can achieve. It also wins over people, firstly with the standard of service from waiters and waitresses with personality, who can engage with the visitors and boost their enjoyment of an evening. Unfortunately, like many eateries on Duke St, they are not the cheapest compared to other areas of town but it does deliver decent value for money by comparison too. This is one of the few places in Liverpool that can star as a takeaway of repute and as a classy restaurant. It's up to you how to sample that cuisine, talking around a table or in the company of a Hollywood blockbuster.

The meals are pretty special and the prices really won't lighten your wallet at all. The decor here is absolutely fantastic with ornate wallpaper, dripping chandeliers and offers those cosy private booths for the larger parties as well as romantic tables for two. Well, depending on who you're with. The staff are very friendly indeed and extremely accommodating, very talkative but maintain their politeness throughout. There's plenty of choice for the veggies and carnivores alike and even with booze you only end up paying about £15 each for the whole thing, starters and breads included too. Not bad, eh? The only thing that lets it down is it's not located particularly centrally, but the fact that you have to trek a little to it only adds to its charm and character, and it's certainly worth the extra walk.

They were warm and attentive in the beginning, but then forgot about you once you're main courses were out. We were sitting around twiddling our thumbs waiting for the bill and we weren't even asked how the food was and if they can get us refills. So they get a 3/5 for service, and they seemed too well staff in cooking counter, we're talking like 10 people back there and 3-4 waitresses. High Yield: A Pakistani, Middle Eastern Indian fusion restaurant that does a spectacular job on spices and capturing the tastes of these cultures, but with ghosting hospitality that needs improvement, easy on wallet, and warm atmosphere Details: What we ordered 1. Chicken Madras- They claim this is the spiciest dish offered here. True- takes a couple of bites for that spice to truly finally hit you. Great for those who are trying to truly go for a spicy and tasteful dish. I highly recommend this outta all the chickens on here. Tikka is a little too tomatoey, Bhuna has a yogurty tang to it, and this is straight up spicy spice if you like it this way. Chicken breast with a sauce not creamy but heavy in spices. Very good and well done. I highly approve. Order a side of roti/naan and dip it in. The madras and bhuna do not come with rice/bread btw, so I recommend you order a bread to dip with 2. Lamb Madhu- Rice is a little flavorless and it's a little more tough than the typical basmati rice that you see- aka not fluffy. The lamb was not bad though. It's lamb on bone compared to briyani where the meat is not on the bone. Way too much rice in my opinion but if you're a big rice eater, go for it. If your company ordered a madras/curry they can mooch off your rice a little ;) 3. Bhuna Chicken- a yogurty kinda curry. You can definitely taste the tartness of the yogurt- a soothing and comfortable curry to order if you're someone who doesn't want something too spicy or tomatoey. Highly recommend. Also need a roti/bread or mooch off a briyani's rice if you get this. Well done, however. Service: Ok, this is where they lose their 5 star rating. They come off as warm and super attentive at first. And you're pleased. However, once that main course appears, they ghost you. Never saw our waiter again. Didn't even come by and ask how we were doing, check for refills, or even come with check even when were clearly done for a while. They had excellent service but seemed to ignore you after you get your food. I checked multiple times and it wasn't like they were understaffed... rather they had like 10 people preparing food, 2-3 people chilling back behind that counter, and like 4-5 waiters for about 20-25 tables... so I don't understand how they can ghost. I recommend they step up the service or else will sacrifice their quality of their restaurant.. If you're in a rush, definitely put pressure for them to get your check or else yyou'll NEVER get it.

The food comes in small bowls that don't look like they'll satisfy your hunger, but you'll be surprised. Vegetable Samosa 3 medium size samosas served hot on the outside and warm on the inside. The peas and potato mixture, mixed with seasoning, had a nice subtle kick to it. The green chutney that came with it had a nice cool minty taste and goes well with this dish. It was more liquidy than the typical green chutney, but can be used as a dressing on top of the small salad that this came with. This is a great starter that can satisfy a small hunger or used to excite the taste buds and get the stomach ready for the main course. Chicken Tikka Masala The sauce is tomatoey and creamy. Not spicy at all. There are good amounts of chicken swimming in the sauce. The chicken is well cooked and soaks up the tikka masala, giving you more flavor as you bite into the chicken. This is my favorite. Saag Paneer This was a bit too heavily seasoned with spices and a bit too salty, for me. I couldn't really taste the spinach or cheese in it. Maybe if eaten with naan, it would balance out the seasoning, but eating it with rice, did not. If you're a fan of ginger, this has a few bits and pieces big enough for you to chew on and appreciate. Unfortunately, this was my least favorite out of the three dishes I've tried here. Even if you're dining alone or out on a romantic night around the town, this is a great place to go to satisfy that craving for delicious Indian food.

THE best curry house in the city, as far as I'm concerned. In a prime location for students (just…read moredown the hill from Liverpool and JMU guilds) and with bloody decent prices, you can't complain! Ok, when you get inside it may look a little dicey, as the decor hasn't been touched up for quite a while and it's mainly filled with booths with the curtains drawn across. But that adds to its charm once you get used to it, and is especially handy if you're on a date. Once you're sat at your table (there are also some banquet tables for larger groups), you're given a fairly standard Indian menu, with the usual 'foreign' beer choices like Cobra etc. Don't do what my friend did, and say that because he was starving he wanted 10 poppadoms with all the trimmings before the mains arrived. We struggled to get through them, and then he insisted that they bring the curries out straight away, as he didn't want them to go cold or be sat on a hot plate. This of course meant that I couldn't finish half of my curry and could barely look at the beautiful peshwari naan. I've never had a dessert in an Indian restaurant, because the food just fills me up so much. I remember another time in the UnI when I was in a fairly bad state due to alcohol consumption and actually had a debate with myself as to whether I should go and make myself sick so I could eat the food that I hadn't touched, due to aforementioned alcohol. I know most people say a curry is a curry, but these are damn good and worth being sick for!! Another time my idiot friends decided to order fahls, which are apparently the hottest curries in the world. Being a strict korma fan, I watched in amazement as they sweated their way through. I mean, what is the point? Surely they couldn't taste anything beyond their tastebuds shrivelling and dying? Anyway, I digress. The UnI is fab fab FAB for curry and is affordable and quite quirky. I wished I remembered to go there more often, instead of always ending up in Shiraz!
