I love the Uni but I'm never sure how to pronounce it, is it u-n-i or unee - either way its a Liverpool Institution! You will get a real lesson in cookery here! It's a ...ooh, tough crowd. The food here is brilliant and its very cheap. The one thing people will mention about the Uni are the cute little booths here with curtains that allow you to have your own little private space - something of a novelty in an Indian, although I imagine it's to get away from the rowdy late night beer n curry crowd as I can't really imagine anyone becoming too romantic over a Rogan Josh and Garlic Naan?! The staff here are very nice, and not just in the polite manner you are accustomed to from an Indian, they do seem genuinely interested in your experience and will get you settled and ordered with speed.

Best lamb vindaloo I've had in ages. Attentive service. Smells wonderful and the menu is reasonably priced. A terrific place for a curry!

Absolutely delicious fusion spot! The drinks were perfect and complemented the beautifully spiced…read moredishes. The ambiance was so cool and tropical, I wanted to stay there all day. Plates were pretty small, but the wait staff did a great job on recommendations for how many we would need for our group.

It wasn't exactly that I was looking for a familiar face, I promise; no, that's just what found me,…read morewhen I least expected it, but perhaps most needed it. I walked into this place, Mowgli, for a business meeting with a colleague, late on a Friday night, around 10pm. We'd had to wait for a while to be seated. It was a busy Liverpool night, the evening before Derby Day. It was right when the hostess led us around the corner towards our table, one of the booths with small swinging rope chairs, like in your childhood friend's backyard, that I caught sight of her. The sight of that face, half obscured under blonde hair as she read her menu, so arrested me that the toe of my sneaker caught on the polished linoleum floor, almost tripping me and causing an embarrassing squeak. I was certain it was her, it was unmistakeable-- and yet, it was equally unlikely, nearly impossible. So far from home, so long since we'd last met. Why, how, here in Liverpool, of all places? Even though I knew it couldn't have been the friend I remembered, I couldn't convince myself entirely otherwise. I remained in a state of agitation as we sat down, unable to fully dispel the nagging thought that a long-lost acquaintance was here, in the room, and even though she hadn't even seen me gawking as I passed, I felt I was violating some social code in avoiding greeting her. We ordered, and I ate, trying to hide my distraction, though I'm sure it registered to my colleague. I kept stealing glances towards that table near the door, probably appearing shifty, like the cops were after me. Only because of his gracious nature did my colleague steer the conversation and avoid awkward silences while we were supposed to be ironing out the finer points of the Q3 fiscal plan. Just after we got our third shared course, the Goan Fish Curry, the woman got up, put on her coat, and left. I realized I'd never know, and somehow, that thought felt torturous. Then, as she neared the front door, she turned and looked right at me from across the dining room, my bite of paneer and roti catching in my esophagus-- but no, she was looking behind me, as her companion left the restroom behind our table. And then, in a moment, there was no doubt left in the whole universe. I took a bite of the Chat Yogurt Bomb, and as it burst and gushed sweet yogurt in my mouth, she looked back once again, waved, and winked, this time unmistakably. It was a moment of Proustian, epiphanic confusion. Suddenly, the taste of the Chat reminded me that the last time I'd had that dish, years ago now in New York, had been sitting with her on one of the last times we saw each other. As I left the dinner in something of a mixed state of shellshock and acute nostalgia, I gradually realized that it couldn't possibly have been my friend, the woman whom I thought I saw. It was impossible, because I knew she was in New York. So, whoever I'd seen must really have just been some nice scouse woman with a passing resemblance, maybe enhanced by the moody ambience of the restaurant. And yet, somehow it really was her. Yes, I was tired, yes it was late, yes I've been under a lot of stress lately... and, no, it couldn't have been her. But somehow the paradox persists. That night it both wasn't, and also was, Emma. Emma, my dear old friend, a friend I miss. If you find yourself here at Mowgli Bold Street, be prepared for the impossible. Be prepared for apparitions of a friend from times bygone that you wish you could give a hi five to, but don't know when you'll have the chance to next. It's a bittersweet experience. We ate the Chat Bombs, Paneer, Fish Curry, and Mowgli's take on Chicken Tikka Masala. It was all good, tamarind and citrusy flavors in the sauces predominate, at least in the dishes we ordered. It's her birthday next month, on the 20th. I never forget a friend's birthday. Maybe I'll send her a postcard ahead of time to wish her well.

Another to make it onto the block and with great success is Mayur restaurant, which serves Indian dishes with a touch of finesse. However, rather than being just the generic eatery for this area - in other words, expensive and clean cut - Mayur achieves something few of the others bother to, takeaway. So, if you live local in town, this could be the ideal accompaniment for a night in with a DVD or to have friends around without going to too much trouble or effort when perhaps all you really want to do is relax. The menu itself is bursting with options and really caters for all tastes. Indeed, for those who are less keen on Indian delicacies, this is arguably the best place to enjoy fine cuisine and overcome such aversions that, let's face it, is why people often like certain types of food and not others. Picture it now, the "oh, I don't like tapas person," or "I only really like to go Italian" kind of individual. Well Mayur on Duke St acts an intermediary or bridge for sceptics just on the well-cooked, eye-catching dishes - a rare gift that few restaurants can achieve. It also wins over people, firstly with the standard of service from waiters and waitresses with personality, who can engage with the visitors and boost their enjoyment of an evening. Unfortunately, like many eateries on Duke St, they are not the cheapest compared to other areas of town but it does deliver decent value for money by comparison too. This is one of the few places in Liverpool that can star as a takeaway of repute and as a classy restaurant. It's up to you how to sample that cuisine, talking around a table or in the company of a Hollywood blockbuster.

They were warm and attentive in the beginning, but then forgot about you once you're main courses were out. We were sitting around twiddling our thumbs waiting for the bill and we weren't even asked how the food was and if they can get us refills. So they get a 3/5 for service, and they seemed too well staff in cooking counter, we're talking like 10 people back there and 3-4 waitresses. High Yield: A Pakistani, Middle Eastern Indian fusion restaurant that does a spectacular job on spices and capturing the tastes of these cultures, but with ghosting hospitality that needs improvement, easy on wallet, and warm atmosphere Details: What we ordered 1. Chicken Madras- They claim this is the spiciest dish offered here. True- takes a couple of bites for that spice to truly finally hit you. Great for those who are trying to truly go for a spicy and tasteful dish. I highly recommend this outta all the chickens on here. Tikka is a little too tomatoey, Bhuna has a yogurty tang to it, and this is straight up spicy spice if you like it this way. Chicken breast with a sauce not creamy but heavy in spices. Very good and well done. I highly approve. Order a side of roti/naan and dip it in. The madras and bhuna do not come with rice/bread btw, so I recommend you order a bread to dip with 2. Lamb Madhu- Rice is a little flavorless and it's a little more tough than the typical basmati rice that you see- aka not fluffy. The lamb was not bad though. It's lamb on bone compared to briyani where the meat is not on the bone. Way too much rice in my opinion but if you're a big rice eater, go for it. If your company ordered a madras/curry they can mooch off your rice a little ;) 3. Bhuna Chicken- a yogurty kinda curry. You can definitely taste the tartness of the yogurt- a soothing and comfortable curry to order if you're someone who doesn't want something too spicy or tomatoey. Highly recommend. Also need a roti/bread or mooch off a briyani's rice if you get this. Well done, however. Service: Ok, this is where they lose their 5 star rating. They come off as warm and super attentive at first. And you're pleased. However, once that main course appears, they ghost you. Never saw our waiter again. Didn't even come by and ask how we were doing, check for refills, or even come with check even when were clearly done for a while. They had excellent service but seemed to ignore you after you get your food. I checked multiple times and it wasn't like they were understaffed... rather they had like 10 people preparing food, 2-3 people chilling back behind that counter, and like 4-5 waiters for about 20-25 tables... so I don't understand how they can ghost. I recommend they step up the service or else will sacrifice their quality of their restaurant.. If you're in a rush, definitely put pressure for them to get your check or else yyou'll NEVER get it.

The place was packed on a weekday, which speaks volumes about how good the food was. The menu prices were also very reasonable. The food comes in small bowls that don't look like they'll satisfy your hunger, but you'll be surprised. Vegetable Samosa 3 medium size samosas served hot on the outside and warm on the inside. The peas and potato mixture, mixed with seasoning, had a nice subtle kick to it. The green chutney that came with it had a nice cool minty taste and goes well with this dish. It was more liquidy than the typical green chutney, but can be used as a dressing on top of the small salad that this came with. This is a great starter that can satisfy a small hunger or used to excite the taste buds and get the stomach ready for the main course. Chicken Tikka Masala The sauce is tomatoey and creamy. Not spicy at all. There are good amounts of chicken swimming in the sauce. The chicken is well cooked and soaks up the tikka masala, giving you more flavor as you bite into the chicken. This is my favorite. Saag Paneer This was a bit too heavily seasoned with spices and a bit too salty, for me. I couldn't really taste the spinach or cheese in it. Maybe if eaten with naan, it would balance out the seasoning, but eating it with rice, did not. If you're a fan of ginger, this has a few bits and pieces big enough for you to chew on and appreciate. Unfortunately, this was my least favorite out of the three dishes I've tried here. Even if you're dining alone or out on a romantic night around the town, this is a great place to go to satisfy that craving for delicious Indian food.

I don't think Indian Delight is a 2-star establishment at all. This is one of the best Indian's in Liverpool City Centre, the food is great, the staff are so quick and reliable, plus the price is great. Considering most people that walk into Indian Delight are slightly worse for wear, the staff are always really respectful and polite as long as you're not shouting abuse at them. I strongly recommend the chicken makhonwalla, lamb sagwala and of course the poppadoms!

Luckily, the lights from Indian Delight won us over - plus it was freezing and we were hungry and drunk. Unfortunately, not as good as UnI. The dips with the poppadoms tasted wrong and I ended up ordering a dansak instead of my staple korma. My opinion is no reflection on the staff, however, who were lovely and so quick we were amazed. Another thing to point out is that I never ever manage to finish a whole curry to myself, but this time I did. And it really wasn't that bad. We were all just tainted by our love of the place nextdoor-but-one. The meal came to less than £60 for four of us, which you can't really complain about. Sorry to the staff for giving you 2 stars, but its really not a reflection on you. It just didn't live up to our expectations!
