Nando's at Queens Square is one of two branches which the chain has in Liverpool city centre, the other branch being the considerably better store on the Upper Balcony level of the Liverpool One. After arriving in Liverpool at nearby Lime Street Station from Manchester, I decided to call at Nando's, and more so chosen this branch due to having multiple good reviews (it has been reviewed more than the other branch in Liverpool!), and of course it was close to the railway station and the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel & Spa Liverpool, where I was staying for my night in Liverpool. The branch from the outside looked awful and unkempt, approaching from Queen Square bus station, parts of it looked dark and gloomy, like it had even been abandoned for a while, and the entrance didn't seem too much better, there wasn't a clear way to get into the store which brought me to the first door I saw, where you had to be buzzed in, there were two intercom buzzers, once again none of which seemed very clear, and this area again looked dark, abandoned and disgusting. I eventually found an entrance which even then didn't look too clear, nor did it look appealing, and I found out this store offers HALAL CHICKEN only, which I am not a fan of. I'm struggling to find a positive for this place, even for me as a big fan of Nando's, where I regularly visit my local Manchester Spinningfields branch, not only did this place serve halal chicken which I'm not a fan of, but the disgusting, overall look and feel of the store which made me simply want to get the hell away from it, and to somewhere else, with many eateries including Ask Italian and Five Guys being basically next store (I'm glad I chose Five Guys in the end!), I sadly feel this Nando's branch deserves a single one-star rating and I'd advise if you're looking for Nando's in Liverpool, the One branch is by far the better option. read more

Until recently I was a Nando's virgin, wondering what all the fuss was about. This branch of Nando's is huge, situated in Liverpool's Queen Square. It is bright and airy and is well decorated. The staff welcome you warmly as soon as you enter and show you to a table. They present you with menu's, ask for drinks orders and give you as much time as you need to decide what to order. The chicken I had here was moist, succulent and expertly seasoned. The portions are as generous as the prices are cheap. The service was excellent and I had a fantastic time. We all know what Nando's is like, and even those who have never been have a fairly good idea. You get chicken. You walk in, if you're lucky you get shown to a table, and that is where the service pretty much ends. From here on in, you are on your own. Waiter service is, for want of a better word, a bit crap. If you're in a group, you need to decide who waits at the table while everyone else orders and gets drinks and cutlery. Because, if you all go together, the chances are your table will be given to the next customers who walk through the door. Once you've ordered, you end up waiting for so long you start to wonder if you ordered at all. Once you get your chicken, it is nice, but not really worth the wait. Ever since my first visit to the Queen Square Nando's (one of two branches in the city centre) with the other in Liverpool ONE, I have never been disappointed. I always seem to go to this branch, because I like its interior design which gives the impression that you're in Iberia. Plus, the Portugese music adds to atmosphere (a little loud) if you're sitting right beneath the speakers but more importantly its the food and service that matters - impeccable! My favourite combination has to be the original plain chicken wings with chips and peas as a side. I usually order 5 wings which is normally enough for a lunch or more for dinner if I fancy! Their wings are just delicious, crispy and chargrilled on the outside and succulent on the inside. Always a winner! If you're stuck on what drink to buy, I would recommend the Mango Queuncher - its simply not too thick, pure and refreshing, ideal chilling down those spices (however hot you like your wings). I simply feel compelled to water every Nandos planted on every corner of this great country. For me It's like an oasis in the dessert, every time I wonder across that no-mans land in that new city. With over 200 restaurants in the UK, there are plenty of plants left. After a busy day of shopping with two siblings in Liverpool city centre we converged on this particular Nandos which we had never previously had the pleasure of visiting. Needless to say our experience was more than satisfactory down to every detail. Our chicken livers were divine as usual. The pitta bread was warm, fresh and melted in the mouth with that perri perri oil and hummus topping. The chicken was perfectly cooked and the potato mash was mouthwateringly good. To conclude the dining experience we opted for the trusted frozen yogurt as well as the newly added carrot cake. After this heavenly treat and our customary stamp later it was all over. Located in Queens square, this is probably the cheapest and best value restaurant within this immediate area, and is close to some cracking pubs such as the Rat and Parrot and the Ship and Mitre. It's got everything that all the other Nando's has, infamous Peri Peri based flavours, bottomless soft drinks, a selection of beers and wines, authentic Nando's esque decor and great service! I would recommend this over any other fast food chains that plague the city such as McDonalds and Burger King, Wimpy and Shiraz, as the food is much better quality and there is a comfortable atmosphere at a really reasonable price! A place that allowed me to shed my prejudices like a snake sheds its skin and become a better, humbler person. The first time I came here, I actually walked out in disgust. I caused such a scene What JUST chicken???!! that my company trailed behind me in silence, upset that I was upset, and I became the party-pooper that night. Prima donna that I was. All that changed though. Like St Paul on the road to Damascus one evening, I saw the light. I don't know what possessed me perhaps some cosmic force, perhaps Quetzelcoatl the original feathered chicken-snake-man-whatever. But that night, I let my obsession with red meat slip off me and decided I'd try out some chicken. And it changed my life. Very busy new location in Liverpool One shopping complex. Had to wait for a table but once seated the beauty of Nandos is you don't have to wait to be served. I'd never been to a Nandos restaurant before but my friends are always raving about it so I thought I'd give it a go. Although it was fairly busy it wasn't long before we were seated. Have always liked eating out at Nando's restaurants and the newly opened branch at Liverpool One is amazing. Great views. It can get very busy and sometimes there is a bit of a wait for a table but once you have ordered, your food is served to you quickly by helpful staff. The kids love the fact that they can keep re-filling their drinks by themselves and the children's menu (for under 10s) provides plenty of choice, a decent sized portion, is excellent quality and good value for money. Had to provide 1 star but would have preferred to give none! God awful food and even worse service. Went for a birthday (only because my brother seems to love it there did we agree to go), booked a table weeks in advance as we know it gets busy at lunch (although god knows why!) turned up 15 minutes before to be told they had given the table away!! Waited 30 minutes for another. Someone had spilt vinegar on the chair and floor and it stank. We asked someone to come with a mop or a cloth so we could sit down and they came with a dirty dish cloth and kitchen roll and left it for us to do!! Disgusting treatment and no apology. Food arrived 45 minutes after ordering and was cold. When asked if we could have it hot we were told they could microwave it if we wanted or have fresh but fresh would take about an hour!
